Is there any way to get Ubuntu on our note? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was thinking.. would it be possible to either dual boot, or install latest (or any other) version of Ubuntu on our Note? I've search the web, but haven't found anything useful.

i would LOVE that but I think it would take a LONG time to get it ported

Android Emulator

Is there a way to 'emulate' Android on a PC? The reason I ask, is that there are so many interesting looking ROM's on xda, that I would like to try out before I flash on my phone.
Is this at all possible, and if so, how?
Thanks
download the SDK. There's one in there.
although there IS an emulator included with the android SDK, it's not like you can just load up a "update.zip" equivalent off this site and expect to "flash" it in the emulator... its got a vanilla version of each major release of android that it can load, its for devving and debugging android programs, not as useful as you'd think, slow too.

Flash 10 available now...only for Nexus

Adobe.com won't download to a non-Nexus. Anyone have a link to the apk to see if we can install on G1?

I would think it would need 3d drivers and froyo to work which we don't have. The rendering is done by the graphics card for flash.
Yeah, it's really 2.2 that's required...
I doubt it's 2.2 since it has only been released to SDK so far. It hasn't actually been released as a ROM yet.
from what i read is that you need the new market in order to download it. and the new market is only available for the nexus as of right now. we need someone to port that over to even download it. then someone can try to port over flash10

This is for my G1/Mt3g buddies. This is now available on the market for 2.2 users (currently only Nexus one).
If you guys wanted to try and getting working (And yes, you have to have 2.2 to use this) you could try it, it's also available on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=686736
How nice. Personally I'll wait until someone ports FlashBlock to the Browser before installing this........
In the meantime, get-flash-videos is always an option.
thanks...
...for posting this in inside xda-developers > HTC Dream:G1 > G1 Apps and Games...
I know everyone wants it!
Bah, G1 is getting set on the back burner again. "Not Enough Storage" we'll show them and get the Froyo working better on the sophisticated G1 then on the N1!
Someone get busy and make me a 2.2 rom! ;D

I got a dev over in their forum to get it for me but it's unable to install on our aria's
hoping to get it working for us cause that would be awesome
any ideas?
ERROR: Application requires API version 8. Device API version is 7 (Android 2.1-update1) looks like you will have to test drive the new froyo for aria if you want to test this unless there is a way to update api on the android, and i doubt it.

Is it? I just searched for Blockbuster, didn't find it.
It was published to the Android Market by Blockbuster on accident, apparently it has to be optimized for each device so they pulled it. I installed it but I haven't tried it at all.

Ubuntu Touch Dual Boot on Any Device (I think?)

Hey guys!
For anyone who wants to try out the new Ubuntu Touch dual-boot, here's how (if your device isn't supported yet):
1. Download and install the attached apk.
2. Edit your build.prop (I recommend using an build.prop editor from the Play Store, but you can also do it manually)
Change the three original lines to look like this:
ro.product.model=Nexus 4
ro.product.device=mako
ro.product.manufacturer=LGE
3. Reboot into Ubuntu Touch!
Notes: A regular boot will boot your device into android, and you will have to reboot into Ubuntu Touch from within the installer app.
You will not be able to boot into recovery without uninstalling Ubuntu Touch.
Your backups may or may not be deleted when uninstalling Ubuntu Touch.
Warning: I own an Optimus G, very similar to the Nexus 4. As devices vary, so will compatibility. There are no promises that it will work well for all devices and I take no responsibility if something goes wrong, though I'm willing to help out if it does.
Edit: Feel free to try on your device, but will work best/only on Nexus 4/Optimus G variants
After changing build.prop to above settings now Ubuntu Dual Boot on Nexus 5 says Downloading Ubuntu (coulnt do that before), will report what happens next

Do you have superuser installed?
That's the only reason I can think of for it to not work.
Make sure that you are running the latest version.

Yes superuser is working fine. It seems to be some sort of a problem due to storage formated differently than Nexus 4?
EDIT: I manualy created /cache/system folder.. now installation went a bit further.. Image of error added.

Try this:
1. (In the app) Options > Delete Download
2. Try to download again, but this time, allow SuperUser access forever.
It could be possible that after a certain amount of time, SU is not giving the app root user permissions anymore. This could cause what you're experiencing.
Already did that since some users reported same error (nexus 4 users) but with no success. using SuperSU like other that had problems.. maybe i should try another superuser app

Probably not considering it requires a device with stock (AOSP 4.2+)/ cm10+ or something similar.

well it is not working for Nexus 5. I tried to put Ubuntu Dual Boot app in /system with no success as the same error occurs
I have installed Ubuntu competely without errors on my Nexus 5. Only it will not reboot.

If you mean that it will not reboot in general, that sounds pretty bad.
If you mean that it won't reboot into Ubuntu Touch, try rebooting into recovery.
It won't reboot in Ubuntu. The phone goes out. And when I turn it on it opens on in cm11.

All I can suggest is to uninstall Ubuntu (not necessarily the app) and wait for it to be ported to your device, sorry.

ok, i have installed UT on E975 (geehrc) following your instructions, it successfully booted but there's no gsm signal ( wifi is working though ). Does it work for you? is there a workaround?

GSM services do not work for me, but that only makes sense considering that the version of UT that is installed with the app is for Nexus devices.
The only 'workaround' so to speak would be to have Ubuntu Touch built for your device.
Unless someone chooses to do so, all we can do is play around with the partially functional OS.
By the way, the Nexus 4 was based off the Optimus G, and that's probably one of the main reasons it even installs properly.

Thanks for these informations and of course, for your work in this thread!
Although, there isn't much working in UT, it's interesting how it looks like!
Btw, is the terminal working for you?

Run Custom ROM in Emulator

I have built an LOS 15 image for the Nexus 6, but do not want to flash it on my phone, as I cannot afford to use unstable ROMs on it. I would still like to test it out however, and the best way that I can think of to do this would be to try running the ROM in an emulator. How could I go about doing this? I've been searching for a solution to this online for an hour and a half, but every tutorial that I find is for older versions of AVD and is not applicable anymore.
Download Google's Android Studio to your PC. It should include an emulator you can use. If the emulator requires any special configuration to accept your ROM package I do not know, as the few times I worked on apps and the like I used my device to test.
Max with Omni did this maybe it could be helpful but I believe this was only on 8.0 not 8.1

I do have Android Studio installed, and I know how to use the emulators, but I do not know how to make the emulators run a custom ROM. I'm afraid that using a ROM is not as easy as what you've said. When configuring an emulator, you're not able to pick an image to use. Instead, the emulators use the stock emulator images.

I don't think you can use an emulator for this.
To be useful, the emulator would have to emulate the exact phone hardware. And such an emulator doesn't exist.

Oh well that's unfortunate. I suppose that there is not any known way to build a ROM specifically for an emulator? Ideally for an x86 or an x86_64 emulator since the ARM-based emulators are horribly slow?

Why not buy an old phone to play with? For instance a used Galaxy Nexus could probably be found for very little money. And it has custom nougat roms with source that you can start with.

I suppose that is a reasonable option, although I would still rather get a custom ROM to work with the emulators.
