I just got off the phone with support attempting to get my SMS working correctly and they had me go into a menu I had not seen anyone mention in here yet. This is a programming menu that you find on other android devices although I hadn't seen anyone find it for the droid X yet. Here is how to enter it-

It was getting into a menu very similar to this on the Droid Incredible that enabled us to get Wifi Hotspot working without subscription.
Tinker away.
Anyone know what data call setting does?

What's more priceless is that there are people who think that a) everyone follows every single phone on this forum and b) people don't switch phones.
He found something he thought was interesting he wanted to share, and some scrubs try to make fun of him?
No wonder there is zero development inspiration for this phone. The emo teenieboppers will just be unappreciative and immature and ruin the community anyhow, so why bother?

It's only an option to enable/disable cmas which has something to do with with emergency alerts.
There is also another menu to access which the number is listed below, which I found in another thread here in the DX forums, but it seems to have been abandoned(the thread I mean).
*#*#4636#*#*
It's mainly the phone info and usage statistics, I see nothing for DUN settings in here either.

My implication was the inability to use search with 900+ posts under your belt. Instead just adding to the clutter of repetitive threads; which is unappreciative, immature, and ruin's the community.
Just because you don't see development, you again assume there is little inspiration... that's a little mind speaking.

Actually, since the entire Droid X forum here gets less hits than my personal website (which is unlisted, unadvertised and mostly for my friends and family), discouraging anyone from posting anything that might be additional or useful information is FAR more damaging to any community you might think you serve (FYI, "the community" is not considered "you and you alone" - despite what your parents may teach you).
If YOU (of course, that's what you are thinking of here) don't like it, hit the back button. If you need guidance in locating this tool in your browser, send me a PM and I will work through it with you since I am familiar with pretty much every major browser out there.

I know there is development, but not NEARLY as much as other phones released at the same time, and certainly the majority of it isn't discussed here. Gee, wonder why.
When you;
a) Figure out that you do not speak for any community or, in fact, comprise the majority opinion just because you think you do
and
b) Find the back button or the link located at the top of the page that takes you to the message list
THEN you can even begin to talk to me. Until then, let the discussion resume with the big people and you just stay quiet and let other people do all the work.
Thanks for your cooperation.

I am an old user of the Jasjar pages and today I've visited the forum and one of the threads had been taken over by a virus spam site. I had to leave the site immediately and scan my computer using my own antivirus that did not detected anything serious, fortunatelly. That is a rotten behaviour. You go to a thread to try to help and get rubbish! Don't remember now which thread but am not going there before someone from inside XDA checks and cleans it.
Somebody less savvy can get a real fright and click on the links. It is very persistent!
Regards,
Old Granny Wovens.

I don't seem to be able to find the culprit now. Maybe my work firewall blocks whatever was in there because I cannot detect anything at the moment.
At home I've cleared my history so I cannot tell which thread for sure or even if I accidentally hovered on top of an ad on the page. If I find it again I will make sure I get the thread link first before I do any rescue remedy.
Apologies if it caused any inconvenience.

Thanks. The ads on XDA should not be like that, and if they are, that's something we would need to raise to the attention of the admins.
Give us a shout if you find it, with the report post button There shouldn't be anything on here, as it's a forum, so I'm guessing it's links to a site that were the issue?
Whilst lying on my living room floor a (hopefully) great idea hit me.
I have a new project and it's really unique.
It could change mobile browsing forever.
The app will allow you to download Data to you mobile via your mobile network for free.
People have unlimited data on mobile e.g. :
500mb unlimited data
Which means they can browse the net for free unlimited.
But they can stream and download content up to 500mb.
I can put a stop to this but need a very good developer. All the ideas are in my head.
So PM me or reply to the topic if you know are are a very good developer.
I'd be glad to help, but here in Italy browsing is limited, as all the kinds of net traffic.

Ill do the testing. You won't believe how simple the app could be if made clean.
I have sent you a personal message.
I posted this in the JuiceDefender topic, but I wanted to post it as a separate topic as well so more people would see this. I know not everybody uses JuiceDefender, but hear me out on this, you all can and should play a role in this.
I just spent a good bit of (read: way too much) time writing up a report and sending in six separate logs pertaining to JuiceDefender's incompatibility with Revolution/Gingerbread. There was a previous report by some other guy on the LateDroid site, but it sucked, frankly. I didn't think any of the comments on it were that helpful either.
You can see / vote / comment on my new and better topic here: http://bit.ly/w42tou
I'd appreciate it if you guys visited the link and voted for/commented on the post. Even if you don't use JD, think of this as helping out those of us who do, and maybe you will start using it once it works! I think it'll help encourage the devs to actually do something, but I also don't want to feel like a moron for writing something that nobody reads. You don't have to actually read it, just voting on it is enough to save my ego. I even gave you guys a shout out at the end of it (and it really is way better than that other guy's).
Voting is probably sufficient enough, but it can't hurt to throw a comment on there to help raise the profile of the report if you want to. Additionally, if you're using the beta version of JD, open it up and send a log file to the devs when the problem occurs again.
I wasn't joking when I said I really love/depend on this app. Having a smartphone that can go without charging for 3 days is not something I want to give up.
EDIT: The Dev that's working on this mentioned this on the older report, along with several other things that never got answered by the original author or any of the individuals commenting. Anyone out there "enterprising" enough to take this on?

We're pretty close to the top of the issue list and an admin combined the old thread with this one. So they're at least aware of the issue. Woo!

As of right now, we're #1 in the "Hot Ideas" category and #2 in "Bugs". "MMS not sending/receiving" is #1 with 133 votes, so we're almost there. Not bad considering our issue appears to affect only the Revo.
We're also #16 in "Top" which includes every thread in every category (including official announcements/changelogs/etc). Most of the ones above ours literally have hundreds of votes, so I'll take #16.
BUT, we need to keep squawking lest we get shoved to the backburner! Keep in mind that every day you don't vote, God kills a baby panda. Just sayin'.
135! We've officially taken first place, but only by 2 points, so don't stop voting!
Also an Admin has added a nifty little "Under Review" tag to the post--so they're "officially" looking into it.
A recent commenter said he's having the same problem on his Thunderbolt, so if you know someone with a Thunderbolt, get them voting too hehe.
Voted. Not a JD user anymore because of this. Thanks for the solid writeup

I just reinstalled JuiceDefender Beta, and am now using it but with the "Control Data" feature turned off. This seems to allow me to use the other features without disabling my 3G/4G. You might not be able to turn off the data, but you can still control the frequency of Autosync, and that makes a pretty big difference by itself.
I can't for the life of me figure out why that's not included within Android. Not everyone needs by-the-second updates...5-10m synching frequency is fine with me, and saves a metric crapton of battery life--even without being able to control data.
Voted... thanks for your efforts.

We're at 167 votes now; runner-up in the Bugs section only has 90, so we're definitely the #1 issue at this point. We're also #1 in Hot and #10 in Top (not counting three official posts).
Update! Mark (the actual developer) asked a bunch of questions and requested some logs. It'd be great if everyone could hit up that link and take some time to send logs. The fact is that it won't get fixed if we don't help him out. Voting was easy, now it's time to actually contribute!

I am pretty sure that will happen on any side you visit...thats how add revenue is so popular
Is there a setting you can adjust under Internet options to minimize this ?
Also, according to "Hotmail," if you close out the previous web-page, that's supposed to prevent this.
There is a way indeed... It's called ad-block and cookies clear on browser exit

OK, I just made a post in the off topic photo thread about the Panasonic Lumix ZR3, and now I'm seeing ads for the ZR3 on XDA!!!!

Ah ha, the tip of the iceberg.............
Yup, XDA hasn't invented some awesome method, it's just the standard ad technology from the provider (doubleclick or dart iirc)
There's an opt-out on the ad network's site, to disable the tracking.
Is it a perk of being a recognised dev that I never see ads? I recently saw the site when I wasn't logged in and was like whaaaaaa?

I need to know which adverts it is you're seeing that are using this...
If you hover over them, try and get the domain name of it. If it's a google/doubleclick one, head to http://www.google.co.uk/privacy/ads/ for information about this. That's the google UK link, but there will be a suitable one for your region too (and I think it's a generic thing anyway)
