2ndboot - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

If I have 2ndboot recovery I can use swap on all rom?
Sent from my Milestone using xda app-developers app

No.
Recovery does not affect ROM and vice versa.

I don't see any reason why is this thread in the development section.
Anyway, custom kernel in recovery only enables charging while in recovery and solves some sd-card issues.

(Q) dual boot

What about dual booting to boot muti roms
You would need custom kernel or custom recovery.

Like doomed or thrillz kernal? What else would i need, want to have selfkang on dual boot
Actually, you'd need a custom bootloader. Not custom like someone already made it. Custom like custom.
Sent from my almost cm7 p925
No, not a custom bootloader, but a recovery that is custom. You can change or add a script that manages what rom is booting. I have made the roms for x10 and doomlord made the recovery to for them on a locked bootloader. And the init of kernel needs to,be tweaked to match both roms

That does make sense. Sorry was speaking from my many years with Linux and bad .

I HAD AN X10 BUT DOOM haven't made a dual boot recovery for us..you meant boot manager?
zhidzu made the main one for everyone to play with and a few of us used it/tweaked it to make dual roms when camera wasn't working well on gingerbread roms. z made it easy with the chargemon script (doom is a master of scripts) that could be tweaked to do all kind of things
Their was a miui one. Superaosp. Cm7 one
Z is da man of x10 world... But doom did a lot too with ramdisk, scripts, reboot widget, kernels, Boot menu, and more

Rom manager doesn't recognize my unlocked captivate

I just bought a captivate. I rooted and unlocked it ( now t- mobile) . When I go to rom manager to make a recovery it doesn't recognize my device. Only gives option for i9000, epic, fascinate. What do I need to do to make a backup/ recovery?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Unfortunately there isn't an official clockworkmod recovery for the captivate. You'll need to either flash a kernel with cwm already embedded, or manually load up cwm on your SD card. What stock ROM are you on atm?
Sent from my AOKP icy-glitched Captivate via Tapatalk 2
Sorry you sorta wrong on some things. There isn't official CWM for GB or Froyo. But there is for Eclair. Sounds like he is on GB at the moment. You are correct about having to flash a kernel with CWM in it.
I stand corrected...but yes unless your still on eclair or restore back to eclair, there isn't an official cwm

Yea, I am on GB 2.3.5 baseband UCKK4. I also have a vibrant.I am really surprised at how different the two phones are. I would like to put a custom rom on the cappy. What rom would you suggest? Kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Suggesting ROMs ins't allow because you will most likely get arguing. Flash Corn Kernel and try out some custom stock ROMs if you don't know what you're doing. If you have an idea. I suggest ANY of the ICS ROMs
I would like a stable ICS rom. PM me with any suggestions.

Going through files in root browser I found a clockwork mod file. Also a zip vcremoveboot-CWM.zip. Not sure what it is? Ideas....

vcremoveboot is the revert zip for voltage control, in case you have unstable settings applied at boot.

How to installs CWM?

Hi Guys,
I'm on stock rooted ICS LPY with Franco #3 ICS kernel.I would need your guidance on how to install CWM recovery.thanks!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Hi Guys,I was quite surprise that cwm recovery is already installed.can someone enlighten me?I was previously using Motorola Atrix and it was different.just hope to understand more on SGN.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Kernels nearly always contain CWM Recovery, so when you flash a kernel, you get the CWMR as well.
Thanks for your reply!you have really brighten my knowledge on SGN.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
are kernels ICS and/or GB compatible only or can we flash any kernel on any rom ?
"are kernels ICS and/or GB compatible only or can we flash any kernel on any rom ? "
Nope. ICS kernels only work on ICS roms and vice versa for GB kernels.

Bad chip/CM10.1

Hello,
I just rooted my N7000 with Philz kernel (i have root amd cwmr now), to get rid of the brick bug, but chainfires brickbug app says its still there, (I am still on stock rom) See attachment.
Is it really there? Or is it just the firmware, amd cant it harm my device?
Another question, I want to flash cm10.1 official nightly, but do I have to flash another kernel first? Can somebody provide a guide step by step with links, so probably nothing goes wrong?
Thanks in advanced!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
It will always say bad chip because the chip is bad. The kernel will suppress the brick bug. So philz is a safe kernel and you will be safe. You can flash cm rom using the same kernel.

Even if it is official cm10.1? Nice
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
After you install cm10, it will install its own kernel and that's safe too.
If the chip is bad, did you scold it? Did you try giving it a 5 minute timeout?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SIV using Tapatalk 3
lol
op for your understanding, the brickbug is caused by a command that triggers faulty command in your emmc firmware, to fix it you need to flash the chip, impossible for 99,9999999999999999999999999999999999999 and so on and so forth%
You can shield that from happening by using a safe kernel (but not if you use a separate cwm. zip, then you can bypass safe kernel)
this means it will never be fixed, just prevented from happening
remember, after you flash safe kernel, reboot on that kernels recovery to be safe

[Q] Flash only custom kernel

I have an Incredible S. I have flashed the official rom 4.0.4 with kernel version 3.0.16 g2271fd09. I was able to go over 1Ghz. Even though i think that 1Ghz CPU is more than enough on Android 4.0.4, it is very laggy and the situation is terrible. I need to go over 1Ghz like I did on other custom roms. I do not want to install a custom ROM because I do not know what they contain and I dont trust them. I just need to flash a custom kernel, and boot up the phone with the ability to go over 1Ghz (overclock). Any custom kernels (not ROMS) that you have tried and work with Android 4.0.4 ??

Are you s-on? You might have to fast boot flash. What does it say for kernel version in settings?

I am on S-ON, and the kernel version has not changed in the settings. I do not think I will need to S-OFF as I managed to take it up to 1.5Ghz with CM7. And the link you sent me says, that, that beastmode version is for HTC ONE X.

You will have to go to video.ardes's thread and see his instructions in his 3rd post or something for flashing in fastboot for s on users.
His thread is for xs-kernel ICS. I guess you could try his kernel if you want
