Did your friend tell you wether he tried to install a Custom Rom?
You should try to "restore" the Note with a Stock Rom installed with Odin.
I always use an old Gingerbread Rom with three parts. But you can download the right one for your country from sammobile.com. That's easy.
In the sticky threads here (Dr. Ketan's are very good) there are descriptions how to work with the Odin PC version.

I will not check other sites for firmware when everything is here - I'm lazy and I know I can trust them here in XDA.
See here for possible versions.
You should choose a version for the provider your friend uses.

Yes there is.
22.Can I flash an Asian ROM on my European device or vice versa?
Flashing should work without any problems. There are no known compatibility issues as of now. If any should arise, flashing back to Asian firmware is always possible.
Check your current ROM by dialing *#1234* to make sure you do not have a Korean variant of the phone (which is NOT compatible!).
Actually its not my concern if you read my post I've included my firmware and radio
PDA:M110S.DG14.0001

It's different from all the firmware listed its from Korea so I want if I can make it to i9000JXXXX like that not this korean firmware

It's not really easy. That's why I'm asking if there are other people who try to flash on this korean version of SGS. I would love to flash this but if it gets bricked you are the one who will replace it

Now im lost, I thought you were able to confirm that your SGS is different from the one that comes from korea despite it being "Anycall" thats why I posted the quote.. altho I understand the step says Asia to Euro but the note at the end says make sure your not using a korean version of the phone, then you said that is not your concern.
The step may refer flashing an Asian FW to a Euro handset but it clearly states that you are not able to flash X FW if your handset is from Korea.
But yeah at the end of the day, its not yet possible to change the FW on a Korean based handset.
Sorry for that, I also got lost. So it solves my problem and I'm stuck with these korean firmware. Is ther a possibility of root?
As Per this site in pages 8 and above
they confirmed that they use superuse+su+busybox by using Odin3
http://forum.samdroid.net/f49/superuser-su-busybox-i9000-v-2-01-07-2010-a-1355/
Anyone can confirm?
I'm too annoyed with this different firmware
Thousands of devices have been rooted in Korea, but it's hard to find support here for the device. Do a Naver search for "갤럭시s 루팅" or go to matpclub.com
I'm at matpclub.com
lucky for me, it's hard to understand and translation is not good
Agreed, but if you can find the file that contains odin and the update.zip everything else seems fairly like every other rooting system. Unfortunately, I deleted the file and the link after I was unsuccessful getting my device into recovery mode.
Here is the link for root. But I can't download the Msuper.zip

I'm too nervous to do this since my phone got no warranty and i'm not in korea

Official 2.3.6 for India is out for GT-S5830i

The Galaxy Ace (model number S5830I) is reportedly getting the Android 2.3.6 update, as Samsung has finally set a few balls in motion to update its older devices. As reported by Android OS, the update for the Ace is available for download via Samsung’s dedicated software, Kies. Here is the update version for the Ace S5830I: S5830IXXLA2/S5830IODDLA1. Like all other updates, this one will be distributed to Samsung Ace customers in batches, so you’ll have to be a little patient, if you still haven't received the update for your phone.

Anyone tried ??
are galaxy ace S5830 and galaxy ace S5830I same? cant understand i m from india
sammobile already made announcement that this is not generic version so do not try to flash it as it may brick phone..
they sade 5830i has some different chipset.... so better wait for some time
official update in india are ddkqX so this was what i asked sammobile on twitter and they replied and announced that do not flash this....
all of google news shows galaxy ace getting update but its not
I wondered the same, but I suppose it works for both the phones. I read it on another thread in this forum. People have tried it. I am on 2.3.7 (CM 7.2) so not quite eager to try it out yet.
the one who is saying that he is on 2.3.6.. not this rom specifically and why to talk more as sammobile officially said that this won't work on 5830
i moved away from indian roms months back and never saw region while flashing as all have english and thats more than enough to use roms

For the first time I rooted my phone, I followed this steps that are in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
First of all, follow the G. step.
G. Flash Custom Recovery
Follow strictly this step-by-step.
Then, you should be able to root the phone.
To you, what works is the E. step.
E. Rooting for 2.3.3/2.3.4/2.3.5/2.3.6/2.3.7
Remember that you have to download the file attached to the post, upd_1.zip.
I think that it is the best way to root.
no it didn't work on me .. and odin can't detected my phone...

OK. R u thinking to change your phone?

Can I flash a different region firmware on my international note?

I have a galaxy note with italian baseband. My question is can I flash it with another region's firmware (asian firmware)?
Yes you can!
Yes.You can always flash any region firmwares on your phone. But the firmware should belong to your phone model.i.e N-7000 firmwares on N-7000,and I-917 firmwares on I-917.Which means firmwares are devices specific and not region specific
If you cant understand any of the above, the exact answer for your question is yes you can
would this affect my warranty? & flash count? and another question could i directly flash with an older firmware, im currently on 2.3.6 i was wondering if i could flash 2.3.5?

1.It wont affect warrant as long as you are in stock firmware. But if you have a network locked device I'm not sure because I have no network locked device in my region. If you have international unlocked note, you are 100% covered by warranty as long as its stock
2.Stock roms dont increase counter.Only custom roms do
3.You can flash any GB rom when you are in GB(to make it simple IMO)
Does this also apply to other devices?
That it is possible to use different firmwares.
(in this particular case LG optimus black p970)
Yup

Yes you can. You can us Odin for PC to do it. Do some searching on the n7000 forums and you will find all the necessary files and flashing tools.
I recommend checking out this excellent thread by Dr. Ketan http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997

[Q] If update official update from different country will baseband change?

Hello guys, i will explain the story in order, sorry for my bad Grammar.
first i have the official GTI9070 but i forgot the baseband (GB)
then i accept software update that appear in notification bar, my baseband become I9070DXLK2 (GB)
and i see there's CM11 out that can make kit kat running in I9070.
but it requires root to install CMW / TWRP..
so hard to find root zip for DXLK2, and then i found one full ROM rooted then flash it with odin.
my baseband still I9070 (GB) but rooted (binary counter++)
after that i flash TWRP with odin too.
then i try flashing CM11 with TWRP.
it success, but no mobile network.
i search at this forum and someone say "no mobile network happen because flashing from GB (2.3.x) directly to KK (4.4.x)"
he said first update from GB to official samsung JB.
the problem, there's no official samsung JB update for my country/region (DXLK2)
my question, if i flash the official samsung JB update from other region.. let say it italy.. will my baseband change?
if it changed, what's the problem and whats the negative impact? what should i do better?
thx in advance.
PS: my device is Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 (Indonesian)

You don't have any negative impact if you flash any stock JB firmware, only with your warranty if you still have one.
Please, follow this guide from point A (JELLYBEANIZATION): [GUIDE] From stock GB to Custom JB (Noob-friendly)
After you updgraded to JB, ask/read some tutorials linked here: [{INDEX of GUIDES/TUTORIALS}] Galaxy S Advance [GT-I9070].
Be sure when you proceed to do something OR ASK before, NOT AFTER you doing something wrong.

In Canada, have XXLK2 (Africa?). Want JB, use UK version?
I bought my unlocked I9070 almost 2 years ago and am thinking about upgrading to Android 4.1.2 (JB).
On samsung-updates there appear to be lots of JB versions for different regions.
Can I just select the one for Britain (XXLQE)? Is there anything I need to check re: compatibility?

Yes you can flash any stock firmware for I9070. Be sure you don't flash firmware for I9070P.

I had a lot of trouble trying to get the samsung-updates.com download to work (used the free one, which either didn't start most of the time or died during download). Eventually, I took the filename (for Britain) and Googled it, and found a download site that let me download it (required 3 hours).
Armed with the .zip file and ODLIN, it worked like a charm. All my installed apps and data survived, which surprised me. I thought this would be a vanilla install.

How To Downgrade to GB 2.3.7?

Before you install anything, is your phone GT-5660D or GT-5830? Make sure to download the original firmware for your device. Installing any firmware meant for another device on your phone can, in the worst case, hard-brick your device. As for the firmwares, you can download the one that is near to your region. In fact, any regional firmware for a particular phone will work on it. You can also find all the Samsung Galaxy Ace firmwares in the following link,
[Share] All Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 Stock Firmwares (2.3.X) Ever Released
Hope I Helped
I just did it with the help of that thread. Thanks all.
