[Q]Does custom rom automatically detect and use EXTx partition? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does custom rom automatically detect and use EXTx partition?
i have 1gb ext4 partition on my sdcard. after fresh installing rom PrimeHD stock and many applications i found out there is still 26mb/178mb in internal storage!!!!!.but sometimes it shows 28mb/186mb free.value changes.
same thing happened in KuyaDroid rom .
even though it is not showing 1gb free space(if we use int2ext),the internal memory is same.
later i installed app2sd ,but i didnt used it to move the application.
problems facing is app force close for first time.
things i didnt try -
removing sdcard and running applications.
installing full applications like 200mb apps.
speed ok with ram 33mb free
.faster then gingerdxv29(sorry to say).
.
attaching screenshots.

Not the Rom is the problem . Stock kernel dont support ext partitions.

[Q] Using APPS2SD after moving apps with cm7

Hi!
I'm facing disk space problems with internal memory on my samsung galaxy mini.
So I have moved lots of apps to SD by using app2sd and cm7 own moving capabilities.
Now I saw this apps2sd script by darktremor and want to give it a try.
I managed to partition my SD card to two different partitions and /sd-ext is mounted perfectly.
My question is before I run this apps2sd script does it interfere with already moved apps so that they get somehow broken?
I moved a lot back to phone memory (apps with widgets and auto startup) but the phone memory is so full that I cannot move all apps that were originally unmoveable without CM7. Do I encounter into troubles?
Running,
Samsung Galaxy Mini with tj_styles CM7 7.1.0 and OC 764 kernel.

Don't know about that ... But, it is always recommended to have app in internal storage if you are using darktremor a2sd... The dt a2sd and a2sd are diffrent and are incompatible with each other so only use either one...
You can move most apps to internal storage and backup remaining ones using titanium backup or anyother method then install/flash a2sd and then restore your apps again...
If you need help with installing a2sd read this...
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-partition-sd-card-and-install.html
Thanks!
I think I'll take full backup with titanium backup and then flash new cm7 with dt a2sd and then start to restore them.

Low in internal memory ..wait what??

hi all .. i use link2sd to link all my apps to my sd card..this should give me alot of space ...i used to use lewa rom and i have 2xx apps and themes but when i switch to sgs2 rom i decided to delete som apps i hardly use / themes and now there is about 120apps but then when i start to download some games my memory went to 2mb only ?? is this bug ?
this happens to me when i change from lewa to old cm7 fat. ext4 seems lost. and i need to transfers all files to sd using app2sd manually. s2e didnt work.
it was ok now after i changed to stock lite ..i tink it;s a bug
Used link2sd long time on stock rom, very good tool but it seems not work very good with titanium. It works, but after recovering all apps i had very little memory, but all apps are on sd-ext. I moved one after the other to sd, back to phone and then 2 sd.ext, that works and i got much more space. Dont know why, but this procedure was very hard, because of less rom space moving 10 apps to phone, moving to ext and so on.....
But now im using cm7-FAT and s2e, moved dalvic, apps, data and cache to sd, so i have 171! MB free space on phone. No need to have so much space on phone, but whats the best: Phone ice noticeable faster than before, seems that my sandisk class4 sdcard is faster than phone memory, i wondered, but it is so, feels really faster ;-)
regards
I have never been able to set up Link2SD perfectly. In addition, Link2SD makes soft link which makes internal memory little bit usable though. Also, It can not be configured to be on external storage for widget or themes. I remember installing ~50 Apps I had just 60MBs free. But, with S2E I am boss! It serves all needs perefectly. A lot better than Link2SD.
As i said, link2sd works fine for me long time, the graphical interface is very good for managing where your apps should be.
All widgets and tools that never work with standard app2sd (on fat-sdpartition) work as they should do.
Problem is the lack of moving dalvic-cache and other data, so i had ~45MB free, with nearly 100 apps installed. Thats fine, but as i said before, after backing up its sometimes tricky to get all the apps on sd-ext again.
And after some time, phone gets fuller and fuller, i think because of cached data or somewhat.
So with s2e (works on cm7, on stock darktremor a2sd will do nearly the same...) all data are on sd, wich is very good for me, as i said before, performance is better now.....
regards
s2e works Fine in all Cm7.x based roms.
for link2sd user, IMHO this is a very good tutorial [TUT]install apps as much as you can, DON'T WORRY ABOUT MEMORY!![reUPDATED][FAQ's]
I have s2e and successfully moved apps, dalvik, and cache to sd-ext.. but my data (/data/data) cannot be moved to sd-ext... can anyone help me with this? my sd card is RiData 16gb class 10 with 1gb ext3 partition...
edit: found my fix. i have to enable the advanced option in the settings... now i have 170mb free in internal! haha!
Download ALL the apps!

Haha. Found the problem as soon as I read the first line. Links2SD doesn't move everything to the SD card. Let me explain...
I switched to a stock based rom the other day and since S2E doesn't work for stock, I had to google something up and came back to Links2SD. I've used it before but I've had some problems with it. After I was restoring my 97 apps with titanium, not even half way through and it says my device is running out of memory. When I checked Links2SD, everything was on the SD card and yet the internal memory was getting taken up completely.
My fix? I said **** stock roms and went back to CM7 with S2E. It moves everything to the EXT partition as soon as you install it. I restored all of my 97 apps one after another WITH NO ISSUE AT ALL. Only problem I had is that I had to move some apps that use widgets back to internal because the widgets won't work installed on the SD.
Check out the guide on my signature. Cyanogenmod for life. Never again shall I go back to stock.
S2E FTW. I have faced problwm plenty of times what just superace explained. There isn't a useless reason I put that sentence about link2sd in my signature.

All Widgets work, if on internal storage, but with s2e sd-ext is like internal, partition is mounted at boot.
Widgets dont work, if they are on normal sd-space (mounted much later, i think), which is fat32.
I have 1024MB sd-ext and all apps on it, all work, even widgets or others who need to be on phonespace normally. And i think its impossible to move some of them to "real" internal space selectively, only link2sd can do this, or am i wrong?
However, a2sd or s2e seems to be the best solution, if you have very much apps, cause it moves nearly all data to sd...

@SuperAce609,
I'm completely agree with you. This is the only reason why I also haven't gone to stock ROMs like that SGSII by Rushabh. But, one thing you haven't got right about S2E is Widgets' memory location. With S2E, that partition is mounted as internal memory at the start up. All I am saying is, Widgets moved to sd-ext DO work perfectly. I know it, because I am a BIG Widget & themes fan. Have installed plenty of widgets and have 23 themes installed of CM7 theme chooser. Still 117MB internal memory is free. Here, Link2SD would have kept all those themes and widgets in internal memory while restoring via titanium.

@nihilista,
There is one option of saying "Advanced Mode" in S2E Settings. Never tried it myself. But, I suppose its may be for not moving apps, which should not be in external storage like Link2SD. But not Individually.
hey hi , i am on stock rom (2.3.6 ddkq8) does it support apps2sd....read that while u partition ur sd card..""if the rom supports apps2sd"".....(do these roms have to support such applications????) ......it will transfer the files to ext3......to clear internal memory (main problem in Galaxy ace).
2) after partition ...if i try to move apps to sd card from the fone's stock application manager...will it be transferd to the same EXT3?
3) diffrence btween link2sd and app2sd...do they perform the same task?
P.S.- i want to stay on this rom......please help me with this....as m a newbie...i dont have any clue as to how should i move apps.

[Q] Help needed regarding link2sd w.r.t CM 10.1 (4.2.2)

Hi all,
Before i start, lotss of respect and millions of thanks for all the developers for their beautiful ROMs and everyone who are providing with brilliant solutions for almost every problem.
I'm totally new and this is the first time i am typing over here. Please forgive any noob mistakes that i might be doing and i'll make sure the same doesn't happen twice.
Since last couple of weeks i have started exploring my mini and i found the following issue.
At first, i used link2sd on ext2 partitioned sd card (as suggested by a link2sd tutorial) while using stock gingerbread(2.3.6) rom and was successful in installing over 90+ apps with still about 112 mb free in the internal memory.
Everything was smooth and was working fine.
Later, i flashed this Rom "cm-10.1-20130310-NIGHTLY-tass" onto my device and used ext4 partitioned sd card.
I opened link2sd and after specifying the external partition as ext4 and after rebooting the device, i got a warning message telling that link2sd failed to mount the ext4 disk. It instructed that i must reboot and try again.
After the reboot, link2sd detected ext4 partition.
But soon after filling the device with about 78 apps, the internal memory reduced to 60 mb. Also, in between while rebooting, in order to link all the files successfully onto sd ext, few apps would disappear.
Every time at boot the system mentions low internal memory and that some apps would not be working.
Boot takes a lot of time too (about 3-4 minutes).
I am linking dalvik-cache file, application file and the library file
Is there anything that i must and must not do?
Can ext4 partition be used on the mentioned ROM?
Is there any compatibility issue with link2sd on this ROM?
Kindly provide me with any feedback/suggestions.
I would be extremely grateful..
BTW.. amazing ROM.. super smooth and great performance
My first custom ROM and i love almost every bit of it
Aaaah.. now my internal memory has gone to few kb :crying:
is there any other way i can freshly install all my apps without encountering this issue? Now i'm desperate for some help

The only soln to this is flash the rom again and any scirpts like crossbreeder and then flash Int2extn4+
this script moves all your app data to extn. il have installed 20 apps and my internal memory is 1GB
give a try, search in themes and app section(thread by Ashu.bigsmoke) :good:
why d you install so many apps, install apps that are important.
i use lastest antibillos' rom, no partition sdcard, i just move my apps to sdcard using link2sd. i still got almost 30mb on internal memory. i actually can increase the empty space on it, due to some apps which are not recommended to be moved to sdcard, so i didnt move it. by 30mb on my internal, my phone is smooth, this rom is really suit my phone.
well, backinup your apps and restore em whenever you need, uninstall when it is rarely used, is another choice.
*sorry for messy english.
Thanks guys
Will definitely try as per your suggestions and will report my observation..
I was observing that the /data/app folder consisted of actual application files even though i had linked them.
I deleted all the files from that particular folder and linked the applications again. Now i can see about 80mb free.. However, during boot i still get low memory alarm and the internal memory will be almost nil for few minutes. I guess the ext4 partition is not read during boot.
Why's that happening?
I presumed that ext4 partition would be read during boot.

I read about int2ext4+ and i got to know that we need to have 100mb free internal memory for 500mb of ext4 space!!
I currently use about 1.4gb for ext4, this technique makes it impossible for me to use even 500mb of ext4 partitioned space!!
What's the need for 100 mb free space for every 500 mb external space? I didn't quite get that..

[Q] Link2SD + internal memory problems

Recently, i flashed my galaxy mini with cyanogenmod 10.1. Just after installation itself, the internal memory was almost 110MB used out of 178MB.
So i installed link2sd to solve my internal memory problem. But, at the time of mounting the second partition, it showed an error that i was out of storage space and that the mount script cannot be created. I made the second partition from CWM. I also tried partitioning it myself in ext2, ext4 and fat32 formats but still, the same error appeared. I dont remember if i tried with ext3.
After searching a bit about my problem and getting no help, i decided to try s2e. I downloaded and installed it from CWM. The problem is, i forgot to uninstall link2sd. After reboot, i couldn't find any apps named s2e. But, link2sd automatically started and now, it showed a mount warning which said:
"2nd partition is not mounted during boot time. it has been mounted after system finishes booting. Therefore, linked apps are not visible to system at the moment. To make them visible again, please try 'recreate mount scrips' or 'quick reboot' "
when i clicked on 'recreate mount scripts', the old error came up. So after rebooting again, i used the 'quick reboot' option and then link2sd seemed working. The problem is that, now, whenever i switch off and switch on the phone, i need to use the option 'quick reboot' from link2sd to make it work.
Any help to get rid of that problem?
And, another doubt: why was my internal memory almost 110MB used just after installing cyanogenmod? Is there any way i can free up more space?

i suffered with this issue too
currently using "fixed int2ext+ for android 4.2.1+" by CronicCorey.. the best in my opinion.. i guess there are many threads already for internal memory issues.
i really suggest int2ext+..

Thanks for replying. Int2ext leaves the \data\data inside internal memory itself right? As i've said, i have only about 68mb in internal memory because the rest had been occupied since i installed cyanogenmod. Is there any way i can clean up those files from internal memory? And also, my \system partition is almost full with just 4kb remaining. I just saw this in link2sd. Is this normal??
Or, another case, i would love to get link2sd fixed because i already did stuff up my phone with a lot of apps and also, i think its a really good app manager.

/system does not appear in the internal memory that u r referring to. \system is allocated a different memory i.e., about 207mb. Your ROM goes in there.
all the user apps data and cache is saved in /data. This is your Internal memory.
there are different versions of int2ext script. Go through the link i gave. There's one more:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879806
Read the details there.
briefly speaking, int2ext moves all the /data stuff onto the ext4 partition that u create on you sd card.
int2ext+ leaves /data/data in the internal memory.
I am using fixed-int2ext+ and I have more than about 105 apps installed on my phone and the /data/data/ size is about 145 mb.. leaving about 35mb free on internal memory. My phone is super smooth.
In u prefer int2ext, then you can practically store any number of apps (limited only by your ext4 partition size. But the phone gets laggy and slow. I have tried both and i prefer int2ext+.
Also, if you are using the latest CM10.1 nightly by rohan007, you'll still have about 19mb or so free on /system.

i did a data and cache reset today and still, the internal data memory is almost 110MB used. That means i have only about 70MB left even after data reset. And yes, i am using CM10.1 (02-04-2013 update) nightly by rohan007 and still, the system partition has only 4KB left.
I did go through the different int2ext scripts. Possibly, i think int2ext+ would be better.
Anyways, today, after doing a complete reset, the home key stopped working. Also i found a few other bugs in the notification drawer. So i just deleted that rom and i'm trying baltrom now. It seems pretty smooth than the other cm 10.1. Also, it had the int2ext+ so the memory problem solved for now. And one more thing, I'M DONE WITH LINK2SD!
Lol.. I never faced that issue.. Been using cm10.1 for more than a month now.. And I flashed this ROM many times.. No such issues at all.. I wonder what went wrong.. Anyways.. Enjoy with int2ext+..

I think i found out why home button stopped working. If we have installed gapps, doing a data reset can produce problems(like, home button not working) and we'll have to flash the rom again to fix it. Thats what happened, I THINK. I read something similar in the forum. Thats how i came to this conclusion.

[Q] Clean some system memory

my mobile hangs when performs very simple tasks..may be it is due to system memory..
which is 770 KB left...basically it is 100% full
Is there any effective way by which I can delete some files which will not effect my mobile or any other way..please help
(or system memory doesnt effect performance at any cost?)
I m using CyanogenMod 10.1 modded for Galaxy Ace
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2212438
BTW it was working ok in the beginning..
Did you moved some app's or something else into /system or was there always that much space left?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda app-developers app
no ..I didnt on my own..I have 2GB SD card with 512 MB Ext partition..and link2sd link all the apps there..
As all I remember is 8-9 days after this rom there was more than 1% of memory..(dont know what was there in the beginning)
Clean all the chaches and the useless Dalvik cache with Titanium Backup. Than re-link all the apps and libs. I think is the best you can do. Maybe install tasker and automate this process
