Super Bricked Note flash counter reset - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so a friend of mine super bricked his N7000 and it is kind of my fault.
that's why i feel bad and want to help him out a little bit.
my plan is to:
1) reset the flash/binary counter
2) flash a stock rom
my first question is, will it be possible for him to claim warranty after that?
the second one is, is there any flashable zip-file to reset the flash counter on the n7000?
I only found one for the american versions (verizon etc.)
btw: if that doesn't work I'm trying the pit-file revival method

do you have access to download or recovery mode?, if download mode is there try flashing a stock rom using pc odin.. check if it hangs anywhere. if yes paste the odin logs as well. is the phone recognized by the pc

Like I said its Super Bricked, i can get into download mode and recovery mode, but no matter what I do the phone doesn't boot.
i tried flashing with odin and cwm multiple times with different roms (stock and custom), but it just doesn't boot.

doesnot help.. what happens when you flash with odin? does it complete or get stuck? when flashing a rom using recovery. does it complete or get stuck again?

Get a USB JIB to reset the counter.. Ebay it.. It costs less than a buck

are there no flashable zips out there? I mean there are for the american version, so there must be one for the N7000 too.
it would just be so much faster and easier.

first of all what makes you think its a super brick.. if its Bootlooping (samsung glowing logo) as you describe it, then its mere data corruption and needs a factory reset in recovery using a safe kernel

I did multiple factory resets and flashed safe kernels
I also did the partiton scan from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823918
it gets stuck at 1682 mb so I'm pretty sure it's a "Super Brick"

also i forgot to mention that he flashed the cwm.zip (touch version) while being on 4.0.3 like mentionend in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827394
which is an alleged way to Super Brick your phone (according to my research)

As far as I know there's 2 ways of reseting the counter.. With triangle away from Chainfire and you must be on Android or with a JIG.. The JIG that works for SGS II its the same for note.. It's a 1 day delivery lol.. And cost less than 1$ and couldn't be more easy.. What else would you want.. Once the JIG resets the counter.. You can "flash" a stock gb rom and there will be no trace of custom stuff.. So he can claim warranty..
And I think there's a guide somewhere that explains how to make a JIG at home.. You could try that too

[Solved] Reset binary counter and remove yellow triangle without a jig when bricked

Please read this first:
I was able to reset the binary counter and remove the yellow triangle by using the method described in #13 of this thread, but you should understand that my phone was already soft-bricked. As you will know from reading posts #18 and #21, that the Angelom kernel 1.2 should be used to reset your binary counter and remove the yellow triangle, ONLY WHEN your device is ALREADY bricked, otherwise you may brick your working device. Be cautioned.
Original post:
I have been struggling for two days now with an issue of some kind of brick. Without going into whether it is a soft brick or a hard brick, this is how my situation is:
- I can boot into download mode
- I can boot into stock recovery mode
- I am unable to flash any ROM as all of them get stuck at factoryfs
- I flashed several kernels, stock as well as custom, and the latest kernel I flashed was a CF kernel
- After flashing the CF kernel, I saw the yellow triangle at the Samsung boot prompt and the flash counter increased by 1
- I flashed a stock kernel over the CF kernel which made the yellow triangle go away, but I still have the flash count increased
I do not wish to go for any trial and error methods now, so I am thinking of sending my Note to Samsung for repairs. Can someone help me with resetting the flash counter to 0? I do not wish to sound impatient, but I really do not have much time to wait for the JIG solution, so if someone can help with resetting the flash counter without using JIG, it would greatly help.
I have insurance on my phone and I bought the phone a week ago. Please also let me know if I can use my insurance if Samsung decides to charge me. Ideally, I would like a replacement, as it is a confirmed bug from Google that caused my phone to be bricked, and also since I have had the phone only for a week, but I don't know how to convince the seller I need a new phone, as they will try to get it fixed and return the same back.
Is there anything else other than the flash counter that I should wipe/reset before sending it to Samsung? I took a Nandroid backup of a stock odexed GB ROM last week which is under a folder called "CWM". Is the CWM folder in the internal storage (USB storage) or the external SD card? If it is in internal, how do I wipe it? My phone doesn't have any battery so I can't check the location of CWM folder myself.
Thanks.
If you can still enter download mode, there is hope to flash a stock rom.You need the pit file, matching your device version(16 or 32 gb). Also a bootloader wouldn't hurt to have around.
I got 3 errors when i first tried to flash my note, but i solved it with the pit file.Just google for it.

I have tried flashing stock ROMs but none of them came with a PIT file or a bootloader. I have tried installing a stock bootloader too, by itself, but nothing allows me to go beyond factoryfs. Are you saying flashing a stock ROM with a matching PIT can make the difference?

Thanks, I know about it, but I do not have the time to buy the JIG, wait for it and try it out on my device, if that's what you refer to. I am in a time crunch as my 15 days of purchase of this phone will be complete next week, and beyond that I wouldn't get any special privileges from the seller. This is why, I am looking for a method that involves flashing using Odin or stock CWM. It's a long shot, but I am hoping someone can help.
Jig is the only way for you to reset the counter on a bricked phone, sorry.
Wasnt there a kernel that Angelom did to reset the flash counter on his superbricks with Team Rocket ICS?
Maybe dig up the old thread in the dev section and check. It was a quick and dirty to reset counter and make it official again.

Thanks hkgrob, Chasmodo and kimitza. I appreciate it.
So do I need to just flash the 16 GB (I have 16 GB Note) PIT file using Odin and that should reset the flash counter? Just want to make sure I am doing it right.
Edit: I just flashed the 16 GB PIT file using 1.85 PC Odin along with a stock kernel, but the counter has not reset. Also, there is no kernel file, that hkgrob mentioned, in the zipped attachment.
I am not able to find the kernel through search. Could someone upload the kernel which would reset the counter? I will try again after that. Thanks.

No, flashing pit file will not reset your counter. Angelom 1.2 kernel will, but as I said
I will give you the DL tomorrow (if someone else doesnt post it first).

Yes, that's what I figured. I found a link to this kernel in this thread and downloaded it, but it's an ICS kernel, which is also supposed to reset the counter. Is this the one you talk about? And, if it is the right kernel, I guess I should flash it with the PIT file with PC Odin. Correct?
I am on stock GB recovery - for your information.
If anyone else can post the kernel before Chasmodo does, that would be great. Thanks.
A little diversion: For some reason the stock recovery shows there are no files on my SD card, while other recoveries do. Is this supposed to be this way? With stock recovery, I am unable to access anything on my SD card.
I will post this as a separate thread, as it does not fit as an edit in my previous post.
I found this thread, and got encouraged to flash the ICS kernel which the OP in that thread also found. Flashing the ICSTest kernel by Angelom rebooted with a yellow triangle at the Samsung prompt and booted into touch CWM. I rebooted the phone using the reboot option on CWM. With the reboot, the triangle is gone and the binary counter says "No." So, I think mission accomplished for now.
Will there be a way Samsung to tell now if I ever flashed custom recoveries, ROMs and kernels or that phone was rooted before the Google-admitted bug screwed everything up?

Just flash a stock kernel now, and they probably won't be able to tell that you ever used any custom stuff.
No need to removed the counter & triangle, just send it back to SSC, they will fix it for you, because they already know the reason you send it back, cheer up!

Chasmodo, I have already flashed a stock kernel and am trying to use adb, but I am almost certain I will send it to Samsung. Adb results in "/bin/sh...:No such file...(2)".

No. Angelom 1.2 will reset your counter, but it will also give you a hard brick in
no time at all. It is to be used to reset the counter only in cases where a hard brick is already there, sorry.

Is that true that flashing the Angelom 1.2 will hard brick a phone if it's not already bricked? Is that kernel not useful for any ROMs? I am curious because if that's true, I will change the title of my thread.

[Q] newbie - HELP PLS - bricked?

Hi,
I came from an LG 2x, so I thought rooting my device in order to have some extra authorizations was no big deal. I first tried with pc software Unlockroot, but it failed in the process.
Being my GB 236 Note quite dirty I wanted to do some extra backup and cleanup. So I googled and stopped at rootyourgalaxynote.com, I tried the first ROOT method, not working, I tried the second method with pc ODIN 3.04 and abyss kernel 42, ODIN says it worked, note reboots but it stops at Samsung galaxy Note Gt-N7000 with yellow triangle. shocked, I didnt really expect that! After reading a little bit else, I went to sammobile downloaded italian gb 236 stock (the version I had befor kernel flashing) and tried to flash with PC Odin. It Failed. Device still gets in download mode. But now I'm seriously worried. What can I do?
[UPDATE]: I tried using Odin 1.85 and the same gb 236 stock rom but it stops half the factoryfs.img flashing...please explain me what's happening. I don't really want to bring it in assistance and lose my warranty

First you should t have flash abyss through odin since now you are not rooted and do t have the warranty too, the counter of flashes increased to 1 (look at the download mode small text), for rooting you can use chainfire's tool (in the cf-root kernel thread look for it in devolepment section) next get a stock rooted kernel and flash using the tool (read instructions).
For now use pc odin 1.87 and get a firmware 2.3.6 use the pc odin select the file on PDA and flash it, make sure phone is charged 100% and press start, if it doesn't work then uninstall drivers, reboot machine, reinstall them and kill kies process if present in task manager and then goto download mode connect USB and open pc odin wait for the port to be ready aka green and select file then start.... you should be fine its a soft brick afterall.

Yeah I know atm I don't have system nor root nor warranty.
I tried odin 1.87 with the stock rom from sammobile but at one point or another is it cache.img or factoryfs.img, it fails (I also uninstalled kies and drivers and reinstalled them, i also tried installing only drivers, for at&at note, but it doesn't let me). I'm gonna download another stock rom, I just hope in some way I soon solve the thing, given that I also don't know how much charge is left and if the phone still gets charged. it just displays an idle circle near an empty battery when connected to pc or A\C cable.

When connected to charger make sure phone is off the battery meter will show as soon as you connect, case it doesnt leave it for like 3 hours is fine... next about that ROM redownload. The package cleanup you temp directories in PC and try again if still goto recovery abyss I guess? Wipe everything and use the mount option and format partitions I would recommed you to have repartition but I dont have the file you can look for ot in forum its. PIT file download fireup odin select it in PIT section and see if repartitioning is shocked, of so select firmware as PDA and flash again.

Thx for your prompt answer, but I really didn't catch this part, if it still fails I must go in recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache?I don't have CWM installed as rooting was the first flashing I tried on NOTE, so I don't have recovery installed. If you have the stock recovery, restore default wipes everything.
If you have stock re every and want CWM temporary just to wipe goto n7000 devolepment and check how to root by dr.ketan and get files there
If you have CWM then wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik.... and try. Old download another firmware like kk5.... something else not the new LC1 LX1 releases.... (Latest GB) get an old one to get root easly

[Q] Galaxy Note Help Please!

Hi everyone, I was running stock ICS 4.0.3.
I rooted device using CWM.zip and installed SuperSU file.
I then downloaded crickelo custom rom and tried to install using cwm. It would just hang on installing bit so i did factory wipe/reset. Then my phone rebooted to samsung boot logo and went into a loop. can anyone help me as i can only get into download mode, and when i try flash a rom it gets stuck on factoryfs part like near the end. Do i need to wait for odin to do its bit and roughly how long does it take to copy a rom to the galaxy note using odin?
Im a noob so all help will be appreciated
PC-Odin takes max 6-7 minutes to flash a ROM.
Hi im trying to pc odin but it looks like rom is stuck at 95%. how long shall i wait?
before you do somthing else with the phone please read this link first to make sure you on right track:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659768
If odin gives a fail at factoryfs write, you probably got your eMMC busted. Happens on stock ICS kernels when you wipe via cwm. Go through the 12th post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661590
If your note is under warranty and your.custom rom shows no and binary count is zero, take it to samsung service center and tell them that the phone doesnt start after the upgrade. Tell them that you were on GB and upgraded to ICS. Dont tell them of custom roms and kernels.
Samsung ICS has this eMMC brick bug, so they would replace the mother board under warranty if.your binary count shows zero.
If ur binary count is up, you can flash angelom kernel, boot into its recovery and then boot into the download mode to check the count. Else boot into recovery and then download mode again.
Angelom resets the binary count. But dont stay on it, it can potentially hard brick your phone.
If the count is zero, you can boot your region's stock kernel and then take it for warranty.
Ive flashed angelom kernel and its reset my binary count. All i get now is samsung logo? can i do anything else? ive booked in a repair with samsung. Shall i send it in?
If your able to get into Download mode and the phone still powers up (even though it doesnt complete booting) Then i doubt its hardbricked as it would show no signs of life at all.
Have you tried flashing back to a full GB firmware with ODIN ? GB is the best firmware to revert to when you get serious issues.
can you send me link to gb rom to install? and any additional files etc. Ive tried flashing but it gets stuck on factoryfs, like 95% is complete and the last bit dont appear to move? how long does it roughly take to flash rom? im a noob so if anyone can guide me through step by step il appreciate it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Download it, Load it into ODIN, Put phone in DL Mode, Hit start
Job done
which rom do i download? 2.3.6 gingerbread
Because it stops at the factoryfs write, your phone has the eMMC bug. Your eMMC memory has been corrupted by the wipe that you performed in recovery.
Just download a stock kernel for your region and flash it via pc odin. Do not flash the full ROM, GB or ICS, it will freeze at factoryfs write.
Flash a stock kernel and give it to Samsung.

Any idea what your original stock kernel version was and which kernel are you on? Did you flash anything after angelom kernel?
---------- Post added at 11:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 PM ----------
This is the link to xxlc1 GB kernel. It is the Open european kernel.
Flash it before you send the phone to samsung. Do not tell them anything about custom kernels or roms. Just tell them that your phone booted while upgrading and it didnt start after that. I am stressing it again... Just make sure your binary count is zero and rom shows stock. They will repair under warranty.
Hi ive flashed the stock kernel lc1. My binary download is zero and current binary reads samsung official. that should be ok yes? i was on stock ics 4.0.3 lpt version i think. Shall i flash a rom and then pull battery out as ive told samsung my phone reads firmware upgrade encountered an issue etc.
At the minute after flashing the lc1 kernel, i see the samsung boot screen only. will that make a difference? anyone know how long will they take to repair my phone? and will they replace motherboard hence give me a new imei number?
can anyone tell me how to re partition the galaxy note so i can maybe load a rom on it..? at moment it will copy 95% on odin factoryfs.. and thats it.

galaxy note stuck

well as read in my previous posts and i've been trying everything to fix my phone:
reflash stock GB/ICS rom's, using pit file, manually fix bad sectors using adb, flashing custom roms...
i really don't have a clew what to do next to fix it so i'm gonna try to send it back to samsung service,
but problem is that i have a flash counter of 2 after all my attempts to fix it.
so my question is can i reset my flash counter when my phone is "dead"?
or won't they make a problem out of it and fix my phone anyways?
cuz in download mode it still says i have official samsung kernel

[SOLVED] [Q] Galaxy Note won't flash original firmware

Hello guys!
My friend gave his Galaxy Note for me to get a brick fix. He said that he flashed the German ICS STOCK ROM and wiped using CWM. He said that he entered in a bootloop. Then he tried to flash using ODIN, but it stopped at factoryfs, as known at the eMMC bug. In the bug, he disconnected the USB cable and he is seeing a message which says to connect to Kies and select recovery. But he said that didn't worked and Kies didn't recognized the phone. Even with ODIN, loaded with PIT and PDA, the phone wasn't able to receive factoryfs, the same file from the 1st error. I followed a lot of tutorials here on XDA and used the search to find a similar thread. He needs help, since recovery mode, charging mode and normal mode are blocked by the message. I need a ROM which contains the PDA, the CSC and the MODEM files. I already have the PIT, so I need those 3 files to try again.

--PHONE DETAILS--
Samsung Galaxy Note N7000
16GB Storage
LAST Firmware completelly flashed: XXLRQ (I think that is the firmware which you can't wipe)
ICS Stock
Thanks!
EDIT: I tried with another GB firmware and with an ICS firmware. Still NOT WORKING.

He did successfully bricked his devices.. If you are not able to enter into download mode you have a paperweight in your hands... If he has warranty try to get it replaced.. If he doesn't then try the pit file method on the general forum..
You don't need any 3 files.. It's the same or at least the effect its the same with 1 or 3 files

Well then your only option its the warranty or pay samsung either for a new phone or a mother board replacement...
That pit file method its only a partial solution to help you get your device partially working maybe a couple of months.. When the emmc bug happens it does damage the Emmc chip so the hardware its fried and there's no software that can repair it..
The pit method could work for someone but not for others.. Depends on the damage

Here I think you may find a solution for your problem.
If you think you need to flash the 3 files with odin try flashing an old GB ROM, you can find it here, some (NOT ALL) of the ROM in this post has PDA, CSC and PHONE part.
Good luck!

It's doesn't matter if it's 1 or 3 files.. The pit file just repartition the emmc in order to reacomodate the memory and so you can flash the rom.. Flashing separately phone csc and PDA won't make any difference..

This solution is based on a GB kernel. I'm in the same situation as Mr.Indigo, with the same ROM and the same problems. I need to use CM9 kernel to use with ICS, right? Or I can use GB kernel?

IDK, you must do it at your own risk.

Yeah already told you.. Walk to the nearest samsung center and claim the warranty or pay for a replacement

unfortunately sound like a brick to me. failed flashing via pc odin and stuck at factoryfs has something to do with your root. so i heard.. the best way is to send it to SSC for repair while you still have the warranty

He didn't have warranty. I'm trying to flash any PIT which owns factoryfs. He said that fails to wipe into some minutes and I have 88 factoryfs PITs. So I have to flash ALL of them to know. BTW I can flash a kernel using ODIN!
