[Q] How to root Incredible 2 droid??? - HTC Incredible S

Hi,
I have this f.....g Verizon HTC Incredible 2 droid (Verizon model of Incredible S)
Right now I have stock rom:
2.3.4
Software 5.10.605.9
Kernel 2.6.35.9
There is no OTA update to ICS
My problem is how to root this phone???
I have managed to unlock bootloader, using the htcdev, but I can not root it. I have tried everything. Whenever i fastboot flash recovery (CWM 4.01.4 or 5.0.20) it is ok, but still, I am not able to root. When I hit recovery after flash, it is just showing first htc screen, and nothing happens.
In my phone, it goes like this:
*** UNLOCKED ***
VIVO_W XB SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT - 0.98.0000
RADIO-1.09.01.1111
eMMC - boot
Jul 18 2011
Can anybody help me with this?

Hi, since you are s-off you can root by flashing the superuser zip (in the superuser/supersu thread) and your rom will be rooted.
And, since you have a droid incredible 2 you might have more luck asking here

shipped with S-Off? weird. now youll just have to downgrade your hboot to 1.13 then use revolutinary.
Use this to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697
The question is that is my phone factory s-off so do i need to revert back and use revolutionary to s-off again? I need an expert advise on this.
It still says LOCKED at the top when i boot into bootloader.
Just unlock the bootloader with htcdev.com methode.
You don't need to do any of that ****. Just flash a recovery in fastboot and use it to install your custom rom. Congratz.

[Q] How to Root Incredible S already running ICS

Hi guys,
This is my first post here. I just bought a home-used HTC Incredible S which was running Gingerbread. I have been able to officially update it to 4.0.4. Currently, these are the parameters in the recovery mode.

These are other details in case you need some more information.
Android Version 4.0.4
HTC Sense Version 3.6
Software number 4.10.405.1
I want to be able to root it just to install some apps, no need to install custom ROMs. I need help as to how to go about this. I have read various threads, but no hope. SuperOneClick also hangs at step 7. As much as possible, I don't want to downgrade before I root. How do I root my phone as it is now?

You have to downgrade because of your hboot version.
When I rooted, I was on gingerbread with hboot 2.02. I still had to downgrade to 1.13 to flash custom recovery etc.
To root, check one of these threads. I do not think you have a choice because unlike some of the older phones, the IncS has a complex security system to prevent "rooting" which was implicated by htc. HTC has now allowed the bootloader to be unlocked which makes life easier for us to root.
These "OneClick" roots almost never work on the IncS due to it's security. It will work on phones like the Galaxy Ace because to gain root access you just have to tweak the settings.
Hope I helped.

You have helped a lot. I have followed the procedure on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36489294#post36489294
However, I got locked at step 5. I have put in some questions on that thread but I've not gotten any answers yet. Thanks.
It seems that you have failed only at the part where you are "testing" root access. Rather than fixing this, there are other ways to test if you have root access..
-Bootloader should have **Revolutionary** or **Blackrose**
-Recovery should be clockworkmod or 4ext
-There should be an app called superuser in ur app list.
-Furthermore, you can install an app called Root Checker, and check if u got root access. I do not guarantee it works, but give it a try.
If all these tests return positice, chances are u got root access.
Also, if u are still on revolutionary hboot and clockwordmod, i reccommend you upgrade to blackrose hboot and 4ext recovery.
Blackrose because of compatibility, and 4ext because it is easier to use.
Keep in mind that you need an unsecured boot.img for blackrose, so make a nandroid of ur rom and flash cm7. Then install blackrose. It should work. If u do not have unsecured boot.img, you will recieve an error.

[Q] convert HTC One 4.2.2/Sense5 to Google Edition

now that I have re-experienced the Nexus experience with my new Nexus7/2013 I wanted to "quickly" convert my stock HTC One to Google Edition to have a more similar experience on both my prefered gadgets. but I can't get pass the first pass... I seem to be stuck thanks to HBOOT 1.54 not allowing me to switch to S-OFF, one of the requirements as I read.
So what do I have: stock HTC One 4.2.2 OTA with in bootloader showing me:
*** TAMPERED *** (no clue why it says this, did not try loading/running anything other then Revone and moonshine, without any luck by the way)
*** UNLOCKED *** (I got this via the official HTCDEV-route)

etc
etc
BIG QUESTION:
do I need to wait before there's an easy way to switch to S-OFF with HBOOT-1.54 or do I have other options to turn my HTC One into a Google Edition?
Hello.
Your bootloader is unlocked, so S-OFF or S-ON is not that important (though you cannot downgrade the hboot with S-ON, so you are stuck on 1.54 untill a tool for S-OFF on HBOOT 1.54 is made - im in the same situation by the way).
1. Flash custom recovery (TWRP or CWM)
2. Install a custom rom (im running with this one, based on android 4.3, GE (Google Edition) of Android.
3. Done
EDIT: No, S-OFF is not required, unless you want to flash CUSTOM firmwares or a few other things. Custom rom and custom recovery is doable as long as your bootloader is unlocked.
Kind Regards

This is good if he will only have the GE rom, if he will do a fully convert he need the s-off
Couldnt he flash the stock GE rom as a zip? Why is S-OFF needed? Because it must come as a RUU?
And thank you for the assistance in my earlier thread! :good: Recognized the sig instantly!

I think if your at 1.54 you can't s-off without some decent work. Have you tried some of the GE ROM's? I've been using the SinLessROM 4.1 GE and its better then stock GE if you ask me. Good luck with whatever path you take.

Thanks all for these clear and quick responses!
I would prefer the full monty: having an OTA updateable Google Edition
but for now a (as little as possible customized) GE-ROM will do fine
Which ROM can I flash, and what's the best way to do so?

Backup apps and settings with titanium backup. For the 3 dot menu there is an xposed mod for that. Note that installing xposed on the HTC one is different than usually, due to the system partition being protected in some way (changes are lost on reboot).

[Q] Bricked Sprint HTC One M7 - Stuck in boot loop

Hello,
About a month back I destroyed my old HTC One. I unlocked the phone and flashed a new rom for the International version instead of the Sprint version. Ever since, no matter what rom I use, the phone is stuck in a boot loop. I cannot set it back to factory with the RUU because my version is more recent and I do not have S-OFF. I've since bought a new phone, but I'm looking to attempt to get the old one working. This has been a learning experience.

Now I can enter in recovery (teamwin) but i don't know what to do next.

You bootlooped because you loaded an incompatible kernel. Use *only* m7spr/m7wls kernels.
With that said -- just download a ROM you want (again -- stock with M7SPR or M7WLS (they're the same thing, just different ROMs call them by various names -- not going to explain that here).
Then, load your recovery (hopefully my TWRP 2.8.0.3 because it will work for you); "adb push" the rom file to /sdcard (i.e.: adb push <path_to_the_zip>.zip /sdcard) -- yes, that will work in recoveries.
Then install the ROM in your recovery. You should be fine with the caveat that if the kernel you loaded messed up your partitions (by writing it to the entirely incorrect disk partition), you'll have to RUU back to stock.
