Chassis Swap (Gray to Brown) - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I'd love to have that brown shell! With the way the screens are built into the device, is it even possible to completely swap to a different color shell?

The front glass is replaceable, though it may require some know how. There are parts for the grey and the white N7100 so it will be a matter of time before the new color parts will be available.

The color under the front glass is harder to change. It takes a lot of tear down. The middle (the chrome sides that surround the edge of the phone) and rear housing are simple replacements that take a pry tool or fingernail and removal of 11 screws. I ordered two complete middle and rear housing when they were on sale for 15.95. since its such an easy replacement, I'll change them out when my chrome sides get dinged and scratched which they always do eventually and when I sell the phone later down the line.

[REVIEW] Stickerboy Brushed Aluminum Skin

This is a vinyl skin using 3M's bubble proof adhesive that allows air to escape when being applied. There are a TON of different materials to chose from in regards to patterns, colors, etc and the choice of 2 cuts for each pattern. You can chose between a standard fit (I will show an example) and an EXACT fit which requires some patience.
5 Metal Options
2 Designer Options
11 Wood options
14 Antibacterial Matte Color Options
10 Carbon Fiber Options
4 Leather Options
Tons of choices. I have one on my iPad 3 as well in Black Leather with the standard fit. I generally do simple reviews with just pro's and con's so here they are.
PRO'S:
Standard Fit is easy to install
Install instructions via YouTube Videos
Customer Support
Options, options, options
Exact fit is ridiculously perfect
Quality product with no adhesive issues
Rounded corners rather than the corners with a slit to eliminate bubbling.
Quick shipping from New Jersey
CON'S:
Price is just average ($13.99 for just the back or $19.99 for both the front and back piece)
Exact fit will take a few years off your life if you aren't patient
Blow Drier (for shrink fitting the corners on) can cause issues with wet application screen protectors. Do NOT hold the blow drier in one place for too long.

Anyway, here are some pictures for you guys. I highly recommend them. It adds a little bit of protection and a lot of style. I liked it so much I bought one for my iPad.

These look great, I love the colors. But I'm curious as to how it could possibly add protection?
Think I'll wait to see if my second nexus's screen falls off or goes solar-corona white washed again before I get any.
Nice find though! Would love an orange or yellow nexus

For sure. If it was more of a burnt orange I would have been all over it! In regards to protection, I suppose it doesn't really. Not like the rubber is going to scratch.

Oh that's a good point actually I suppose it protects from scratches. Especially on the front.
My first thought was shock damage.

Yeah, definitely won't help much with shock damage. If anything it just adds some flair. If you buy one, be sure to rub the back with some rubbing alcohol prior to installing.

Hard Plastic Case

Does anyone know if any of the snap on cases available for the Nexus 7 are made of a hard plastic? I can't tell from any of the ones on Amazon or eBay if they are a flexible rubber type that snaps over the Nexus, or if they are a hard plastic. I need one that is a hard plastic simply because I plan to cut it up, and need the pieces to retain their shape once cut.
What I basically want to do is cut out the middle section that covers the back of the Nexus, and use the 2 side pieces on the back of my dash bezel to hold the Nexus in place. Currently there is about a 10mm gap between the screen and the bezel face. If I can find a hard plastic case to mutilate, then I can slide the Nexus into the side pieces, causing it to be flush with the bezel face.
Thanks.

The official Asus-Nexus Travel Cover is a good, thin, fairly priced, hard-plastic case. So far, its my favorite of all cases , and I have tried my fair share.
Most of the ones with front covers are hard plastic, if you go for a case made of TPU it's going to be soft.

Corner of screen coming apart

The corner of my glass has started coming up from the rest of the phone. It looks like some kind of foam glue used to hold it together. The phone is perfect otherwise. Is there any way to repair this other than buying a new screen and digitizer assembly? I can attach a picture if this description is not clear.
I also would rather not remove the glass from the LCD as this looks difficult and risky.
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
It turns out you can remove the entire screen assembly from it's metal and plastic frame with a little heat and a thin plastic prying tool (I used a guitar pick). I tried LCD tape but it was not strong enough. I ended up using loctite plastic bonder and it seems to be holding strong. I just hope it lasts long enough so a new phone comes out which can adequately replace my Turbo.

Protective stickers?

There's a slightly different colour blue covering at the top and bottom of the phone. I've tried peeling it off with no luck. Is it a protective cover that can be removed or is it permanent?I can't see a plastic film on the screen like I'd normally expect to see either, is there one?

Well... I guess that would be the huge antenna band area. They made a big part of bottom and top of plastic. Probably as it was better and/or cheaper to make than the more traditional thin lines.

I'll stop trying to peel it off then! Thanks for the response

HELP! micro scratches on silver bezel.

I wish I hadn't taken off my case to check. I found some very small micro scratches around the bezel. Can only see under bright light at specific angles but knowing they are there really messes with my ocd. I've only had the phone for a few days. I'm sure that any note 8 held under lighting would have the same scratches right? I'm wondering if my case caused them. It's the unicorn beetle pro and it has a hard plastic piece you attach to the front/sides before popping it into the hard rubber/plastic shell. It's very secure. They could have been there as soon as I got. The phone... I didn't inspect the bezel under a direct light like I did today. Doesn't move in it whatsoever... My s7 edge didn't have this issue because the bezels on it aren't shiny like this phone. Is there any possible way to lightly polish them out? They are seriously tiny. Can't feel them with a fingernail or anything. Any idea if the bezel is stainless steel on the orchid gray model or is it just painted plastic? Or should I return it and get a different one... Still in 14 day window.

That's why I never use a case that has hard inner shell or frame. Sorry to hear about that.

Which color is more likely to show micro scratches? The shiny silver bezel or the black? I know I read somewhere about the black bezel paint coming off. Also I don't see how the case would of caused this. It doesn't move around in the plastic shell whatsoever once you snap it on. I know I could find the Sam kind of micro scratches on every phone under the right lighting though.

My black one has them too. I bought mine used, but it was only a month old. The previous owner kept in a case and a screen protector from day one.
Well, dust between the back of the phone and the case caused some scratches at the bottom of the back glass. And the bottom of the metal frame has scratches that look like they are from taking the case on and off. I just put a clear protective skin on the back and frame and you cant see the scratches.
The worst is the screen. He used a TGSP with the dot matrix pattern. These notoriously allow dust in under the TGSP. Well one speck of dust in the middle of the screen actually etched a spot into the glass. Its tiny and only visible under bright direct light. But it's there. I switched to a full adhesive TGSP and you cant see it at all.
I'm OCD about my phones too. I wish mine was 100% mint. But on the other hand, I only paid $540 for it (sold my S8+ for $585), and I can relax a little knowing its NOT perfect, if that makes sense.

Man it's such bs. When I look at it in normal light in my room I see nothing.. Looks perfect... But when I use the camera flash from my s7 edge and shine it I see little lines everywhere along the bezels.... I can't imagine any note 8 without these? On the other hand my s7 edge has none bcuz it isn't a shiny finish like the note 8... Is the black bezel trim shiny like the orchid gray? I'm considering ordering that one.
Wait so you got a skin that goes over the actual Bezels of the phone?
Idk what to do... The bezel looks perfect under normal light... Can't see any lines "scratches" or anything, but when I take a photo of it with flash on, wherever the actual flash hits I can see these lines. Is this normal or what.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about it. And I'm pretty OCD. But only you will know if you're happy with it or not.
I just don't get how all these micro scratches have appeared. Definitely not the case... They are in areas where the case doesn't even contact the phone. I really want to know if all orchid Grey note 8s will have the same "scratches" under flash. I have a hard time even calling these scratches. And it truly does bug me because I spent a lot of time researching cases etc to maintain a perfect phone.
Send it back ASAP. Your mental well being is far more important than that. LOL
