Hi
I am using samsung galaxy i9000. its a great device but one feature that irritates me is that it has just 512mb of ram. i have used many ROMs but still can't find any suitable ROM that consumes less ram. By less i mean max 200 mb.
Please tell me that there is a ROM that has no bugs and is not addicted to the Ram of my device. :crying::crying:

I've had this phone for two years and I've done everything you can imagine with it, not once have I come anywhere near running out of RAM... Have you actually run into problems? And how? I'm on CM10.1 right now and it's sitting at 209MB used.
Now I've been trying for several minutes to make a problem with it. Opening everything I can and making it all use as much RAM as possible at the same time. The cache is full now, but it's sitting at 212MB used when I go to the running apps page. Your problem is a mystery to me.

Linux uses all available memory as a cache, it's not a problem.

Well i am using different apps for different purposes insted of using custom apps. like GO SMS, Go launcher, and some keypad apps.
and most importantly it slows down the games like subway surfer, 6 guns. and there are many other lags that accour after running some apps.

Are you looking for a JB ROM?
Try using some clean AOSP ports: Oficial Android 4.2 (Galaxy Nexus Stock Rom) <Beta 1> by Dev Elitemovil / presenter: iall5tar,
or custom mixes build on sources: Slim Bean 4.2.1 RC1
You should also consider giving a try some older ROMs from Gingerbread (2.3.6) family. You will find fairly up-to-date i9000 ROM list over: HERE.

I installed stable C-ROM 4.1.1, it works blady fast....
Should be noted anyone checking available ram in system settings loses 40-50mb ram to... system settings x)
It's not even remotely accurate at gauging exactly what you have to work with, for several reasons.

Hey guys, I think a few days ago i came in asking about battery issues and such. But this time i need to ask about the lag issues. I was an sgs2 owner, and i can say the SGS 2 in the long run as in leaving it on for a longer time, seems to hold itself better then the note.
When launching dolphin or whatsapp the note seems to stutter for a moment and when calling out the keyboard and typing it in it stutters at times. But then everything goes well. In terms of free ram i notice the sgs2 has like 500++ of free ram everytime i use the app killer. But the note only has like 300+. I wonder if this is the cause of those short spurts of lag.
I wish to remedy this issue, and if it means changing the kernel or using a whole new rom i don't mind. (Better battery life would be an added plus)
I'll just leave my specs down just incase anyone out there could help troubleshoot or give me some hints to my current situation.
The lag is very minimal but annoying at times ya know.
Launcher: SPB Shell 3D (Was using this on my SGS2 too without any lag)

Baseband: N7000DXKJ3

There have been a lot of performance fixes.

the only lag that bugs me is that when i first start typing on the keyboard, it has a bit of lag for 1-2 seconds. after that its generally fine. nothing game breaking, but still annoying.
and yeah, i noticed the crappy amount of free ram ages ago. tempted to install a vanilla ICS rom whenever one is available.
Hey guys. I'm a new Galaxy Note owner. Just had it for 2 days now, and while I've experienced some minor issues this is still by far the nicest phone I have ever used. My previous phone was a rooted and CM7'd HTC desire.
Regarding general lag on this phone, I've found that using a lot of widgets can cause slowdowns. If you try removing some, or all widgets, does this speed things up for you somewhat? I've removed most of the samsung bloatware including almost all of the tw interface. Now i'm using ADW2 as my launcher, 3 screens, smart keyboard pro, and dialer ex.
Still looking to flash to Cyanogenmod or ICS whenever that becomes available.
Mine was very Laggy. I used Autokiller to see all the crap that was running. It was truly amazing that damn near everything installed on Android runs some kind of Demon, and stay resident program.
My lag immediately disappeared after terminating this junk that I had not run in a week or so. Looks like some sort of Windows version of Linux!

BTW, coming to the original question, try KL3 ROM. Up until now(KKA), I was having severe lag issues with 3rd party launchers, but with KL3, all that is history. So I assume KL3 is a much faster ROM overall. Also, try freezing the apps that are running these heave/unnecessary background processes.
I'm on AbyssNote 2.2, stock KL3 ROM if it matters to you...
How do i go about getting this KL3 rom? Any step by step guide?

It's now only available in India
use "startup cleaner pro" app. you can select apps which you DONT want to startup during restart/reboot etc. most of the installed apps automatically start on its own during reboot/restart etc. so install this app and remove all unwanted apps startups. i had this prob with S2. and after using this app, after startup it shows hw many apps were autokilled..mine shows like 35-40 apps!!!
Just got KL3 it seems a lot snappier. No keyboard lag any more. Also found a setting in ADW2 EX for cache quality, turned it to low which has improved things slightly. Just had the new ROM for a few hours but everything so far is working well.

It's not available OTA. you need to connect your SGN (via USB) to your pc/paltop having Kies installed. Kies will detect firmware upgrade and allow you to download and install.
Are you guys on the German Note to get this update? I'm thinking of getting it unlocked, or maybe just from Vodafone here since it's out, but I HATE how long it takes VF to update their phones (I'm also not a fan of rooting for warranty purposes).
I can confirm upgraded from previous firmware to KL3 nowipe using mobile odin no cache wipe or anything, the phone went from having major lag to being snappy and battery savings are huge.

Hi notmevlak!
Yes i totally agree, the Galaxy S is still a very attractive phone and is imo still better than most budget phones in the same price range. I have been running many different roms i all generations (gb, ics and currently jb) and I have to say that JB is amazing on the galaxy S. Iam currently running a stock rom ported from the Galaxy nexus with a galaxy s3 theme (Launcher and everything) and It's silky smooth! Almost no lags at all if youre thinking about the UI.
You can find that rom on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1902777
The best way to find a rom that suits your needs is to try them all. I see myself as a real flasholic hehe, it's like youre getting a new phone each time
Good luck! And if youre wondering about anything else, feel free to ask!

I thought 1ghz single core is enough, i don't really play any games or use any hardcore intensive apps. Thats why I wanna cheap phone, but I hate ICS/GB androids lagging. Is rly every jb rom lagging? I think I should go for some cheap wp7.5 phone then
What does lag mean to you?

I guess part of the answer is related to how you define 'lag'...
I have been running CM10 for about a month or so and been really impressed with how fast my GalaxyS runs on Jelly Bean. I haven't tried some of the other roms because CM10 does everything I need really well. I am coming from the earlier GB 2.3.3 version and for me, JB is way faster on this phone. From my experience, similar to many other posts I have read, installing JB was like getting a new phone.
In reality, some apps take a a few seconds to load and you can tell when a given app is taxing the system but to me this is acceptable knowing we only have a single core processor and 512 Mb. I can listen to any song, watch any youtube video and play most games and apps I have tried. It's not perfection and certainly a dual core or quad core rig with 2 gig of memory would be better but you won't get anything like that for $100 or less.
I would never consider a win phone simply because it would be pretty much a dead end for apps...while this phone can still run any app I have tried short of the super intensive games that need a tegra or something...
Will I get a new phone when my contract is up? Sure, if its free. Will this phone do me for another year until then? I'm pretty sure it will...
FYI: CM10 just updated to JB 4.1.2 last night...only a day after it was released for the Nexus 7.
My 2 cents...
Try codename-3.6.5 finally

atm i have the galaxy s, had it since it came out and haven't upgraded since (either didn't feel the need to or too financially challenged lol).
Anyhow, I was on GB roms for ages but changed to JB ones (skipped ICS altogether), and i gotta say the SGS does a fine job running JB. If you're worried about lag and battery problems, I can safely say that the phone handle JB beautifully. You'll probably need to charge the phone at the end of every day but there's not worries about lag or any other issues. Battery drain was my main concerning but I've figured out that you can get the phone lasting off one charge if you turn off wifi and 3G when you aren't using the internet. You won't be able to play games on it for hours but i barely use the phone for games since im bored of them all.
I just got my galaxy s3 for less than 2 weeks, and it's lagging while opening apps/photo/settings. Is there defect with my phone or what?
A Quad Core, 2GB Ram phone can be more lousier than my old Galaxy S2 which is only Dual Core & 1 GB of ram!
Have you rooted or added loads of apps ?

Are the games and apps all from creditable suppliers ?
Ah, but it can be slower than your old phone, thanks to the developers - and I use this term loosely - at Samsung. They have a talent for combining good hardware with unbelievably bad software.
For one, I'd make sure you're using the latest firmware. The out-of-the-box experience for me was that the phone was noticeably slower than my original Galaxy S, and just updating it with Kies helped immensely.
Second, try not using the touchwiz launcher. It's always been laggy for me, and, to be honest, that's the least of its many faults.
Mine was / is very fluid and stable. But i've heard other people also complain about lag in their new S3. Try to exchange it?
Try without a memory card (if you have one).
'Bad' memory card can result in lag as you mentioned.

I had the same feeling, but after I flash a custom rom every thing became normal again.
Try RipperRom v9.5! personally I found it to be faster than the v9.6
Currently I am on Eybee's deodexed stock jelly bean and flashed the integrated mod 1,2,3 and it runs super smooth and works perfect :fingers-crossed: (thank you eybee)
But somehow, the rams seem to be not enough since the leaked firmware LSC, and my rams are usually around 230~280 even though I deleted samsung apps and other useless apps..
Is it a normal thing that happens to every Galaxy Note users because it has various functionality such as S Note, popup brower, mini note, and so forth?
It's normal. When you open apps and close them again they'll get loaded into RAM so they can launch faster the next time you want to use an app. There's no reason to have 600 MB free RAM since the RAM is there for a reason. There's no reason to have 1GB of RAM if you don't use it.
The OS will also automatically make room when you use an app that's resource hungry, like a huge game for example. It will kill a process that's been loaded into RAM that you haven't used for a while.

I do'nt care. Free RAM is unused resource. Andrid manages it, and my experience with LSA and LSZ since November did not reveal any problem..
Always have 300mb above

From my experience,
1. AOSP rom (400-500mb) have more RAM than TW rom (300-400mb) after clearing all running apps.
2. Also depends on the launcher that you used. (NOVA seems lighter than the TW)
3. how many and what widget are you using on the launcher. (Widgets like apps, eat RAM!)
but if you still feel laggy or no way to clear the RAM after doing everything. Flash a better ROM...
Im using cm10.1 KeiraS,, memory free above 400-450mb :victory:
First of all, "I feel sorry for the people on MIUI Forums, disregarding every bug and making people feel as if we should pay Xiaomi for using their devices "

I am least bothered about the "low ram visible to us" thing people complain.I just want proper multtasking capability on my 2 GIGS of ram, and by multitasking, I mean background caching of apps.
Thus , me being a noob, need help to promote this thread so as to find a way ( like buildprop file tweak etc.) which we can use for the MEMORY MANAGEMENT problems on our STOCK MIUI Roms.

First thing I did when I got this phone, was to flash a custom ROM. I came form a Nexus 4, where very few people use the stock ROM.
Right now, there are plenty of excellent options for the Mi3.
I have been using EOS for about 2 months now, and I highly recommend it. I installed an app called Resource Monitor Pro, which allows you to display available RAM on the screen - I have positioned it to just next to the (centred) clock.
Between updating to later versions of this ROM, I have had 300 hours of uptime without any sort of lag, using all sorts of apps and games: RAM management has been exactly as expected - between 400mb and 600mb free. That is, the ROM is doing a good job of managing memory, killing old tasks and keeping recent tasks in memory until something else comes along.
If I were you, I would read up on how to get into the dangerously addictive world of custom ROMs...
Okay, one more solution if you want to stick to miui (as it is the most stable rom) and not lollipop roms.
Use a third party MiUi rom. These guys have really improved multitasking on the modded miui roms. I don't know if its allowed to post link here, but there you go :

1) multitasking is better. On original miui, suppose you have chrome opened with 3 tabs, you get a sms containing OTP, you open the msg, copy the OTP, switch back to chrome and you find that all three tabs start to load again, and whatever transaction you are in between on lost.
But in this ROM tabs dont reload. When you open a lot of apps together, then only old apps are closed automatically..
Try it.. You can flash it on your current MiUi without wiping system or data. Remember to flash Gapps after flashing this rom.. It dont have GApps built in..
