hi
should be getting mine today
how is everybody coping with the low storage issue?
i have been reading up on directory bind and also rickywyatt method
i dont plan on unlocking the bootloader but i do plan on rooting

What low storage issue are you talking about?
While most of them are installed on the SD, I have a lot of installed applications (about a hundred) and I still have more than 3Gb available (internal storage).
An SDcard can be used for your pictures/videos/games, up 32Gb (at least).
If you want to root your phone and don't want to unlock your bootloader, then don't upgrade it.
However, depending on the installed firmware, it may be impossible to root without unlocking the bootloader.
Motorola has fixed the root exploit in the last update.

oh, that was something i wanna ask, so if i download Need for Speed MW the 2 gb will install on the SD?

I can't see that it goes to the sd card everything I have downloaded has gone onto the internal memory
App2sd doesn't work so I think the only two methods we can use are directory bind or the internal swap memory trick

It depends on the application. Some apps put thier "big" files on the sdcard, some won't.
As emu123 said, you can use an app like Apps2sd to move them from the internal to the external storage.
Even if I install a lot of games, I never ran out of storage. That was the case with my old HTC Desire HD.
Big games can use up to 400Mb, I still have more than 3Gb, which means I can install, at least, 7 big games (but some of them will put files on the SDcard if present). It won't ever happen.
EDIT: I think Apps2sd doesn't work with Android 4.x. Not sure, but I think that the system manages where to install apps when internal storage is full.

I already suggested the ability to move apps to the SD card on the motorola forums, Razr I discussions:
I even got an answer!

I'm not sure the "gosh that's a good idea, we'll pass it on" really counts as an answer - almost as if no-one had ever thought of it before!

Does anyone know how to disable vibro on screen unlocking?

Hi, I set up a thread (in my signature) specifically for for those of us new to Motorola - I just got my first Moto phone 2 days ago too. You may find the thread helpful - I will update it with any info. that people need.
How do you mean low storage? Internally? 8GB (practically 5GB) is low to you? Compared with what? Most phones in the upper tier of mid-range have 8GB and many top-range phones start with 8GB...it seems perfectly normal to me. Either way, do you have an SD card? I've a 32GB for my music and it's now full...some phones load the SDs so slowly...but NOT thins phone, all of my music is found in seconds. :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Installing apps to external SD (or other folder in general)?

I am the proud owner of an LG Optimus 2X Speed.
It has an internal SD card. If you mount your own SD it is mounted under //mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD. How can I install apps to the external SD?
App2SD won't work. It just copies apps from flash to internal SD. (so //mnt/sdcard/).
I've searched high and low for an answer. The closest I've come to someone sharing my problem is this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842053
But nobody has answered that thread...
Can't be done without mount point changes in the kernel.
Surely /data + /sdcard is sufficient for apps?
This is going to be like the 720p issue for the Nexus One, it will become the most hated question on this forum very quickly I feel...
My recommendation, which will give you more than you can use:
* apps to internal
* External app data to /sdcard
* Multimedia, roms, backups etc /ExternalSD
Some apps don't yet recognise /ExternalSD as a legitimate location so hassle the devs, it's standard Android (now).
Well, the main problem is the maps from CoPilot Live. The Europe maps can't be downloaded since they are too big. I would like to have them on the ExternalSD. This may be going beyond the scope of the original question, but since that's the main reason I'm asking it would be appreciated...
So, how can I make Copilot Live download to the External SD? Or can't you make some symlink so that the apps can be on External SD but Android thinks they're on internal ?

The easiest way around this probably is to contact the app dev and ask him to implement a way users can select where to grab those files from.
I wonder how this issue was resolved with the Galaxy S, didn't that one have an internal SD too?

Yes, the above answer is correct. It's not just the easiest way, it's the best way.
I realise it's a practical problem for you but via the dev is the only way really. They should be quicker (especially for paid apps!) because this "issue" (internal SD) has been around since what, May last year...
Until we get a custom kernel it can't be solved (except via dev) and even with a custom kernel that re-mapped everything I'd be very hesitant to do this, it will break standard stuff I'm sure.

I'm by no means an expert with Android, but I've been using UNIX since working at Bell Labs in the mid-70s and I've used the link command to "fool" many a UNIX app. As it happens, you could use the same command "ln" to do the same. Just create a directory on ExternalSD and ln that one into the directory tree at the desired "mount" point. For CoPilot, that would probably be /SD/copilot/EU, SA, NA, etc. It should work fine since CoPilot almost certainly cannot "see through" this link - that, while possible, would be a true violation of standards.
I've done something similar with Android to put application cache space in one place on the SD mount-point. See here -> androidcommunity dot com/forums/f4/updated-move-caches-to-sd-card-11167 for details (I haven't done enough posts to be able to post a link). Just use a variation on this method to put the copilot maps where you have space. This worked for every app I tried it with.
That's just my opinion... I could be wrong,
A
Is there a solution for this issue by now?
I found a application Move2SD Enabler (root only) but I guess is work only for Froyo. I whant to install on my Galaxy S Plus ( i9001) but it's not compatible with device.
On my galaxy S Plus all aps in moved on internal sd card ( //mnt/sdcard ) not on my external sd card .
one of the most discussed topics on this phone is, everyone wants it!

I did install GL to SD, and it is working for me with GAMELOFT games, it is working perfectly, but how can I use this app with any other application and game that I install and it is located on internal SD card?
Try this app. Can be used for any application - just move the bigger folders to your external SD with Directory Bind:

External storage "swap" for Xperia Z1. that will be safe for z1
So that we can make external SD card react as our internal storage by doing this we can directly downloads every thing on our SD card and can install more HD games.
Usually 1 HD game have 1GB to 1.5 GB Data and 5 to 6 games fill up all 11 GB available Internal storage in our device, but if we exchange our internal storage with our SD card than we can fulfill our requirements by using a 32GB or 64GB Sd card

Right now I am using Gameloft to SD app for moving all my games to SD card
1) First fix your remount reboot error get it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317432
if you did not have recovery then use windows.exe installation method. Rooted device is requied
2) Download GL to SD app from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=en
move your games data
3) After moving data you can play games by this method only
3.1) open GL to SD app
3.2) you will see two button on top right side, first button is mount and second one is for unmount
3.3) press the mount button
3.4) Now click on play button which ever game you like to play
4) after close the Gl to SD app all the folders unmounted, so if you want to play again you have to open GL app again and mount the games.

does External swap has anything to do with the RAM?
Swap is normal terminology for offloading the least used data to slower drives. I suspect that the op is asking for a way to use the memory card as internal storage, and vice versa.

Sorry I could be very wrong here, in that case sorry. I thought OP was referring to making a swap partition on the sd-card and using that as swap. I've seen people do this on 'low-RAM' devices to increase multi-tasking a bit. That's why I wondered what he was up to since he has 2 gigs of RAM.

yep he's looking to swap internal storage with ex-sd, I would like to be able to do that too, I have like 2gig left on internal and a 64GB card only being used for camera, photos, videos and very little music
was using that on the XZ but I stopped using it for some reason, don't remember what it was

I tried Folder Mount with that fix, but can't get it to work.
The linked folders will mount, but when launching the moved games, it is asking to download additional files again.
The files from the Install.bat of the fix have correctly installed on my phone as well.
So not sure what is going on.
Can you play moved game successfully on your phone?

[Q] Can we move apps to external SD on Lollipop?

I'm sorry this can appear as another lame demonstration of lazyness, but I searched everywhere and I just can't understand what is happening with my cellphone.
So I grab my Moto G 2014 8GB yesterday. It asked for Lollipop upgrade right out of the box, which I followed instantly. So I can say I never experienced KK and it quierks with SDCards before - although I know them.
So I keep this handful numbers of apps installed; not just that, they create their amount of data on their own - Pocket, Evernote and some other examples. I was just happy to see the whole storage options appearing on Android 5 - external app, external data and so. But the bottom line was different; I had this feeling that altough I could move some apps 2 external SD, they were not actually being moved. And with OI File Manager (don't laugh, everyone has its preferred file manager) I could check it was really not moving anything at all:
So, what I am not understanding: Why the system shows that I can move apps and that they were moved if anything is going to the external storage?
I can take more pictures showing that my ANDROID folder is quite empty and that the example app is not listed there.
Just so no one calls me lazy, my crazy non-tech opinion is that the Lollipop update allows the moving but the new runtimes (ART) don't.
Can someone with the Android 5 update check where their moved apps went?
REMARK: Just so you have all the info, mine is the XT1068 hw model.
EDIT: Mine is a 32GB Kingston Class4. Hum... Does it pick wich card it could work with?
Am I really being that noob? No one answered me...
Enviado do meu dispositivo móvel.
Well, Lollipop does allow apps to be moved to your SD Card as usual, I don't see what's the issue here..
Everything has been working fine for me, and your apps appear to be moved as well.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, Motorola Lollipop allows apps to be moved to external memory - but it seems my system it's faking it.
I tried something else: I uninstalled the reference app. Nothing happened to external SD, but the internal memory got the whole amount of space that the system pointed out as internal and external ones. Again, the information is right, but the system is not doing what it's showing in the pictures.
Enviado do meu dispositivo móvel.
Yes you can move to sd card
Hey, you can also move move your to external sd card using app called "Link2SD"
If your solution involve root, I'm sorry but it's a no-go for me. I'm tray ng to stay as clean as can - and moto phones seemed my best option for this. But now I can't even download my Evernote data because it's too big and it keeps downloading to internal memory - although it says it's using the external one.

It will be very great full of you guyz if u can confirm if any games are working with their data file placed in sd card ?
i am using moto e(lollipop) and when i place data in sd card it is detected but then the game just shuts down without any message or fc..
That's because data is usually saved on the internal storage. You can move the apps, but not their data.

My research from the last two days shows exactly this. But it seems that Motorola has made some changes so we could use much more of the external SD card - which is the complaining I have against Moto G 2014.

Please check this link:
https://awanstuff.wordpress.com/201...ink2sd-in-any-android-phone-with-screenshots/
It describes the exact way to enable your phone to move all apps to SD. I also ran into the low memory problem and this was my solution.
I have a samsung galaxy S3 on android 5.1.1 by the way. The solution is the 2nd partition on the sd-card that has to be created as primary partition. This is the key. Then Link2SD
sees it and is able to put data on it. There's lots of tools in the play store that promise to handle this and create the partition for you, but none are able to do this correctly. So, you have to resort to a pc and usb-cable and follow the above instructions. Then you can move your apps. Even system apps, but i recommend against that, as i tried this with google play services, but that kept crashing after that, so i reverted the move quickly.
Good luck, it works for me! Can't imagine why it woudn't work for you. :good:

I cannot move applications to SD card

Hello,
I've buy the new Moto G 2014 edition (the one with a 5" screen) and my other phone was the Alcatel Idol 2s.
The thing I don't understand with the MotoG is I cannot move applications to my 32Gb SD Card, on the other side on the Alcatel I can move all applications (except few one like the Google apps) but on the MotoG, it's only a few one I can move.
And I cannot tell the MotoG to install the apps by default to SD card.
What is the other solution, because the internal 8Gb will be fill very fast.
Thanks guys!

For the second option yes. For this first one I don't know because I have not used it.
I tried Link2SD way back and had mixed results with it. Depending on your SD card, you could find apps very slow to load. Also, unless anything's changed the card will have to be partitioned. The app used to require the APP2SD partition be ext2/ext3/ext4 and the other partition for your media stuff would be fat32. Also be aware that some apps just won't like being on the SD card and may not work well or correctly. Maybe someone that has used it recently knows more, but it just didn't work for me. Keep in mind it was back in Jellybean days when I used it. Oh yeah, you will need to be rooted.
Below is a link to the guide on using it and I had that, I probably would have been happier. )

Internal Memory Full, Don't know what to do!

Hi All,
I have an LG L90 Device with a full Internal Memory. It has gotten to a point where I have to delete majority of my apps to get all my things syncing, but this is really becoming annoying to deal with now.
I do have a lot of apps (I guess 35+), but I never had an issue with Internal Memory becoming full in the past. I also have a 32 GB SD Card where I am saving all photos, videos, and music (though, I rely solely on Spotify now).
I had tried the Link2SD Method, but it isn't as effective for me, as the linked apps somehow stop responding and they just disappear on my phone, prompting me to reinstall.
I really want to fix this, as I love this phone, but just hate the fact that Lollipop will not let me automatically install all apps to the SD Card, and my Internal Memory is just full, restricting me from doing many things I would like to do with the phone.
I would love help here to fix these issues.
Hmm, Bump? Would love any possible help on fixing this issue...
Another thing I also wanted to bring up is that when I do link apps to my external SD card via LINK2SD those apps somehow become unlinked, I assume when the app updates they automatically go back to the internal memory? Not entirely sure...
me too
I think a lot of people have this issue with a "system data" checked on config =>storage, i just have install another time my lollipop 5.0.2, and right after install i checked and this system data was about 4,21 GB, i would be very happy if someone knows a way to delete, or give a way to make this ocupy less room.already did wipe cache, and nothing changed. Maybe flash a tiny rom that have all functions working on the phone, just to mention, already tried some, but always have to do an emergency flash with stock rom again. As my brother above, we waiting for some advice and tutorials !
Cheers all !

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately I have tried identical apps such as Clean Master, and it just cleans up small megabits of junk files, I am trying to find a way to at least free up a gigabyte of storage which for some complex reason seems like a really daunting task...
What have you done recently and when did you notice internal storage is full? Also what rom?
For me when I installed a custom rom for the first time, I believe that I had something extra in /cache/backup/ that caused the full storage. I believe it was a twrp backup.
hi all..anyone has the same problem??? i'm so angry, this phone is always full!!! and link2sd doesn't work
Link2SD works if you follow the instructions and have a partition on external SD formatted as ext4 (fat32 won't work to move apps). Or go to Marshmallow and use adopted storage. In any case make sure you got a reliable SD and at least Class10 speed.

Yes, it's possible. I'm using it now with RR Marshmallow 6.0 1, TWRP 3.0.0 DarkBlue, Open Gapps and a 16GB Class10 SanDisk uSD.

WOW.. is there a guide? thanks
Simply insert the uSD and go to Storage and USB, tap the 3 dots menu and format it to use as internal storage. It will format the card and move all data from /sdcard to it and movable apps to it if you choose to. You won't access internal memory anymore.
Make sure you use a fast and reliable card. Also check the pros and cons first.

only a question: why You won't access internal memory anymore. ?
by file manager with root it will be impossibile to view internal memory? only sdcard ll be accessible?
Internal memory will be used to apps and apps data only, no user accessible files or folders. Of course you can use a file manager with root access to browse the files/folders, but all user files will be on uSD (it will become /sdcard).
PS: as I said, Marshmallow will format your uSD, so copy any file you may need first.
Oook thanks
all it works!!! now my girlfriend's phone has enough memory!!!! great thanks a lot!
