It is like you have to check your baseband version from settings>about phone and find the related kernel. Sometimes a custom kernel doesn't allow updating so better to be on stock while updating through OTA.

U cant update your phone through ota while rooted so loose your root then udate and root again
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Revert back to stock using Odin, then update with ota, and proceed to root.

Or just flash a custom ICS ROM from GB so you don't have to deal with any OTA updates
If you do go for stock, please be careful of the emmc bug present in stock ics kernels. Learn about it before making the jump.

Hello all, I was running Rocketrom v10 on my Note with notecore v13 kernel. Everything was going great, but decided to Gove phone to my wife (got myself an s3), so I went into the phone menu and chose factory reset. It seemed to work, but now it won't boot, the galaxy note screen loads, then it just gels blank. I couldn't get into recovery, but I could get into downloader, so I successfully flashed a pre rooted GB Rom in Odin, everything worked, Odin reported it passed, and the phone rebooted, but again it goes to the galaxy note screen, then just goes blank. I'm at a total loss, still can't get into recovery ( in saying that with the new GB Rom I'm not sure that recovery is installed-I followed the guide in the forum) I'm at the stage where I am pulling my hair out. If I could get to recovery I know I could wipe everything, but I can't been do that. Any help would be massively appreciated

You had been on Notecore kernel and now have flashed GB rom successfully. That mean you are not having any dangerous kernel for now.
Should go into recovery, wipe cache and data then reboot system.
If it still not working well then try to flash another GB rom (should be able to download from Dr.Ketan's thread. cheers.
Cheers for the reply, but I can't boot into recovery, doing thenwhole volume up plus home button plus power, no joy. Getting balder by the minute

Glad you got out of it. Normally, unless experiencing superbrick which is quite rare, any symptoms like this are redeemable.

hello all i flashed jb xxlsc on my gnote rooted and having cwm
after intsalling apps from app backup when i flash anything on it like playstation certificates or xperiia launcher for our device it just freezes at galaxy note bootup splash screen it never gets boot till i factory reset my phone i tried differnt rom like ultimate rom latest and firmware zslm5 all have same problem i am using philz kernel latest. plzz help i wasnt having this problem on ics . plzz help this is a request
i got this problems wif xxlsc too....
i think u need to do it all over it again by not restoring any backup data as most of the custom rom might not tally wif ur previous rom.
cuz different romers have differents deodex system. check it out or someone will give u the right answer !
so far i'm not getting any bootloop when battery is flatt or during screen on pulled out battery n it's startup normally
just like official rom does !
What data are you restoring? Restoring system apps can cause boot loops or force closes.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Just manually paste the apk's which are needed to be in system otherwise try installing them normally don't use titanium for restoring system apps.. Just a advice

disable all the bloatware
and the most important com.sec.android.providers.downloads, you can do all that from settings> manage aplications> all apps

You can try this. Do a factory reset , flash cocore kernel , root you phone and install Lagfix app from playstore. I do it all with my phone and it work!
Or youcan try other firmware , India firmware is a good firmware to try
Sorry for my english

Try the Indian firmware. Warranty stays if you use official Samsung signed firmwares.
Also, go to developer options, scroll to the very bottom and limit background processes to 2.

Unroot is done simply by flashing stock FW again, and voila - no root. So he do not need to affraid of that.
I'm having the same issue with the Polish firmware. Jelly Bean was advertised as being faster and smoother but after updating from 2.3.6 to 4.1.2 via Kies my phone became really laggy (menu animations are choppy as hell, some apps like the phone one take up to 3 seconds to start up) and occasionally there are some really annoying lock-ups where the phone becomes completely unresponsive for 1-2 min. I tried doing a factory reset but that didn't do much. Overall I'm really disappointed with the official 4.1.2 update. Will rooting my phone and installing a custom core like CoCore help in a noticeable way?

Yes,imo after installing CoCore, there will be a definite lag reduction. Much smoother.Dialer may still take time to open though.. for that you can use third party apps like exdialer which is much faster..

I did this to the letter - it downgrades back to GB - WITHOUT having to root. I am a professional person and my phone is essential to my work and I'm very pleased with the result (though have old GB which is pretty good anyway)

Hi all I upgraded my phone to Jellybean. I cleared all the data and cache after updating via Recovery. But the phone is laggy as hell. It just freezes if you open more than application. Screen becomes unresponsive. The apps that I have moved to SD card disappear from homescreen if you reatart the phone. Really very annoyed with the update. Gingerbread was butter smooth. Now I want your opinion. Should I go back to GB or should root it and install a custom kernel? Please help.

fyi do not use ''Swap Memory Mod'' and factory reset. agreed with you 4.1.2 is laggy but it can be fixed.:silly:
I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S Advance with JB 4.1.2 through Samsung KIES software. Earlier my phone wasn't lagging with the Android GB version, and I was able to play games without any lag. After updating it to JB 4.1.2, I'm experiencing lagging when I play games or browse internet.
I haven't updated any ROM, I purchased a new phone, connected the phone to KIES using USB cable. As soon as this connection was successful, it should me a notification that a new Android version(JB) is available, hence I updated it.
Please provide me some solutions so that I can remove this lag.
Enter recovery mode. Factory reset, wipe cache.
Root, custom kernel and remove bloatware. Thats all you can do on stock to feel better.

Any method is the same cause in the end you'll still need to do factory reset as updating from gb to jb is a major update. Xxlqe and ddulp8 seems good.

As you said, I did factory reset and cleared cache as well, but in vain. My phone still lags.
Does anybody have any other method? Downloading custom kernel will void my warranty, so I don't wanna do it.
Does reverting back to GingerBread is the only option?
Thanks Razvan and others for replying.
Thanks in advance.

You don't have to worry about warranty because rooting and flashing custom roms/kernel for jb is hassle free and does not trigger your binary count. So, that means when you want to claim your warranty, just flash back your country official firmware and you get back your warranty. As long as you do everything right and you don't lose your download mode (means you don't brick your device) you have nothing to worry about regarding the warranty.
You can also revert back to gb if you want but I prefer to stay with jb for the apps I use. It's not a massive lag for me. Just slight delay when opening dialer, contacts and camera but the rest is awesome.

Here, you can follow this guide here. Make sure you read everything and do exactly as it says.
It is recommended that you back up your imei. Follow this guide here.
For stock based, many users said that LightJB is great. You can try that but I prefer to use Pure Vanilla because of the looks. You can also try cm-based roms although it's still in beta phase. Look in the original android development section.
Edit: Btw, which version you have? I9070 or I9070P? Make sure to check that first before flashing anything. You can see that at start up and also at about phone in settings.
