So I've seen blackrose hboot around for a while, but what are the advantages of blackrose? Is it necessary at all to use blackrose?

It's based on the new partition layout of the latest hboot from HTC. If you read the op of some threads in the development section, some ROMs need it to work. If you haven't come across any ROM that needs it, I wouldn't bother
A few stock ruu based ROMs need it

Ahh, OK. When the ROM says that you NEED blackrose, will the Rom not function at all, or will it not function properly? Because I have been using stock Hboot and it seems to be fine...

I think it won't boot, I haven't been in that position though. It will try and mount partitions that aren't there/are in different places

If you have S-Off you should be able to follow this procedure to install CWM recovery and then you can flash the newest SU-3.0.x.zip to root the 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 ROM.

You mention that you had unlock bootloader, by what method?htcdev?
If yes, the next step is to flash recovery, than root, lastly flash new ROM
how to do it?
S-Off is not needed to flash Custom ROM

Install CRT Animation will not affect your system, it is just a add-on.
Which means your Sense will remain.
Yes, just like the way you flash ROM.

@ajis cullens
Firstly welcome
Secondly, at the moment you can't s off the newest bootloader you have.
You can only s off older bootloaders. If you want s off, you need to downgrade to a version such as this using a gold card.
Here is a guide to do so if you wanted to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697
But for things like TV animation and fllashing roms, you don't need s off you can do it with HTC unlock.
Hope I answered your questions.

OK First and foremost i would like to say Thank You XDA Developers, you have helped me figure out ALOT about my phone.
First lets just say I'm a noobie at this (aren't all beginners?) and i did try the search function but couldn't find anything . if someone does find, please link me too it, it will be greatly appreciated.
OK now back to the problem, the thing im trying to do is install a custom ROM onto my HTC Raider LTE from rogers, i have rooted/unlocked/ installed CWM recovery on it and my phone is S-ON. this is where things get difficult for me, i don't know where to go from here, i have already downloaded DarkRaider_v1.5.0 and virtuous_inquisition-v4.0.2 just to see which one is better but i do not know what to do with these files. i have booted from recovery and installed from zip but i guess that's not right cuz i tried it three time and had to re-install the stock rogers ROM 3 times due to it Boot looping. Thanks in advance and sorry for any annoyance i may have caused
can a mod please Delete This Post it was my first one but i realized i posted it in the wrong section Thanks
i belive rogers is still on gb so you cant flash ics roms unless you make your phone s-off by doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576668 and then this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1612685 or wait till rogers updates your phone to ics

Blackrose is working on S-on. With blackrose you will get S-off with Blackrose HBoot-2.0.
Probably you still need it for every ICS rom this days. Maybe later a workaround is known.

if you want ice cold for now, after you install the zip you have to flash the boot.img manually with either cmd or terminal (windows , linux or mac)

Its basically just compatibility
Many roms need blackrose to flash, (dont ask why)
Its better to have latest to be on the safe side.

Firstly, please don't be too hard on me. I made a mistake with the stock rom. I didn't back it up. So, I am with ATT in the US, what ruu do I need? I currently have Android Revolution HD 13.4. And was wondering how the stock rom compares to the ARHD 13.4.....
Thanks

It all depends on what firmware you're on, base etc, and what Hboot (if you can't S-Off then you would be severely limited to what RUU you could run) ... ARHD is stock, apart from one or two added tweaks. It's identical in look and feel to stock.

As far as I'm aware there are no RUU's for that base, same base as me, and being that you are S-On and Hboot 1.54, you won't be able to use any of the older RUUs. The best thing you could do is to flash the stock ROM, also from the ARHD thread if you wanted to go to as close to stock as possible.
