Stuck on bootloop - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I flashed a .tar file from here: http://theunlockr.com/2012/11/22/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000/
Via odin and now my device is turning on, shows the galaxy logo and then shuts down and turn on again.
I should probably mention that my home button doesn't work so I can't get into download mode to fix this.
I ordered a JIG usb from eBay, should get it any day now, but until then...
What should I do?

if your home button doesnt work how did you use odin to begin with or did it stop working after your flash if it stopped working after your flash just pop out your battery for a minute put it back in and try three button combo again also

but I just said that my home button doesn't work, how will the 3 button combo help me?

while its looping
try to hold volume down and power together, should get you to recovery, from there you can go on.
did it before, hope will work for you too.

[Q] Flashing to Froyo Issue

My Phone: Stock Eclair 2.1 JH7 update Build 1006
(amazingly no GPS or shutdown issues)
Rooted
Voodoo Lagfix
That's It.
I read alot on here about upgrading to Froyo, regarding having to un-root and stopping lag fix. I could not figure out how to stop lagfix, which I figured I had to be rooted to do so, so I just didn't un-root either. So my mistake I just said F-It and started Kies Mini and plugged in my phone. My firmware updated and my phone rebooted, however it gets to the Galaxy S screen, and instead of booting up my screen goes black and nothing happens, like it shuts off. So, what should I do from here, as this is my only phone, and I don't have readily available access to a computer.
get to the download mode and reflash to stock using odin.
well that's what I was thinking of doing, however. it seems I can only boot into recovery mode. Vol. Down button and Power button. The three button combo seems to do nothing for me, don't know why. So how do I get into Download mode? My first phone WAS the three button combo.

the key combo may not work on certain build phone. if it happens to your phone, you have to build a jig yourself or buy one (i can send you one, PM me).

Well I sure do appreciate that offer. Vol. Up & Vol. Down button with ODIN open and Then plugging in USB got me to download mode. heh I pushed Master Clear, so we'll see what happens.
THANKS!
I figured that out right before you posted it! you Canadians are alright. lol
I would give you a thanks, but I can't find the button for you!

Been about 15 mins since hitting Master Clear phone still says Downloading... Do not turn off target. I forget, having only flashed once to the leaked, does it usually take this long?

you cannot be in the download mode if you just want to do a master clear. boot the phone normally, enable the debug mode and do the master clear using odin there.
No it shouldn't. Another thing that helped was to install the driver package that is included in the Original Post for 1-click. If that still doesn't work after 5 or so minutes, unplug and try again, but this time just go for the ROM flash. You should see the blue status bar moving on the phone. I had the same issue. This took me a few tries.
well odin now says Removed! like i'm supposed to celebrate. phone still says downloading.. lol I guess I should have hit START instead.
Thanks so much clemmie. phone is back to stock you can master clear in download mode, just takes 20 mins. lol I hit start instead and it put me back to the stock jf6. now time to get froyo wee! thanks alot guys, thread can be closed and deleted if you would like.

[q] help w/ captivate????

ok guys i'm definitely a noob at this but i think i messed up this morning downloading the gb drivers for my captivate. i was running serendipity 6.4 and i was trying to flash serendipity VII. i didn't flash back to stock 2.1 eclair with odin one click before i followed the instructions on downloading the new drivers for the gb. i went to the power menu on the 6.4 and hit download mode and plugged in the usb. it went halfway through the downloading process and stopped. my screen was blank without the downloading sign anymore and on odin it was at a halt. i waited for about 45 minutes for it to proceed and nothing so i unplugged it. when i did the factory recovery screen came up and i could use the volume up and down buttons to scroll through the menu choices but it wouldn't let me use the power button to make a selection at all like the power button wasn't working. i pulled the battery and put it back in after a while and now all i get is the galaxy s gt-i9000 samsung screen and nothing else. it wont let me back into recovery or download mode no matter what button combo i try. did i brick my phone and is there a way for me to fix this without having to buy another one? any help would be greatly appreciated.( guys, i realized i messed up shortly after it was done and messed up that i should've odin one clicked it back to factory before i did this, but by that time it was too late.)
When a problem comes along, you must jig it!
You might want to look into buying/making a jig to get you to a place where you can repair your phone.
ok guys, the phone will let me get back into the recovery menu and but won't let me make a selection out of the menu with the power button and i still get the galaxy s screen but nothing else.
Please use more descriptive thread titles. Your title is useless to anyone doing a search.

Could you please quote/reply to these steps to getting into download mode?
From powered-off state, Hold V+/V-, insert USB cable
With battery out, Hold V+/V-, insert USB cable
From powered-off state, Hold V-, press & hold power button
If you haven't tried this combo yet, try using the home softkey in place of the power button with some of these combos - there have been reports of the power button getting remapped to the home softkey.
i apologize for the wrong topic but i have tried every way possible that is listed on xda and other forums to get into download mode with no luck. the only way i could is from the menu's on the roms that i had flashed before( cognition 4.5.3 and serendipity 6.4). i got it to work one time with the hold the vol. up and down buttons and the power button and inserting the battery and it never worked again. all i get is the charging symbol now,the galaxy s screen, or recovery screen. i did get it back into recovery and i tried the home soft button and nothing. then i hit the menu soft button and now it shows the android man and the exclamation point in the triangle. what can i do guys???

Just out of curiosity, when you're at the android man/exclamation screen, if you have odin up already and plug in the phone, does it recognize that the phone's attached?
If so, you might be able to use the odin one-click to get back to stock eclair.
i will try that and get back to you. hopefully it will work.
no sir. i plugged it in and the computer lets me know that i plugged in the usb but nothing registers on odin or the phone.

Hmm... I've reached the end of things I know to say to try. I'm assuming you've tried changing which port you're plugging your phone into on the computer?
Also, have you tried using adb to reboot to download? If not, get adb and use the "adb reboot download" command (I think...) to see if that gets you there. You may need to be in the recovery menu (if you can get back there), or the exclamation point / android guy might work, too.
Although, if you can get back to recovery, you might be able to mount your phone to the computer, drop a copy of CWM on there and reinstall that so you can have more options available to you.
Your best bet at this point might be to buy or build a jig. That should hopefully make the phone go into download mode so that you can get to where you need to be.
ok, now i'm a little confused. i've been sitting here with my phone in my pocket not messing with it. i pull it out of my pocket and it was off. i held the down volume button and the power button at the same time and it immediately started showing download mode. now i'm not near my computer with odin on it to flash it back to stock. lolol. this is depressing. now all i can hope is i can make it back to my computer before my battery runs out. i say this because my phone has always been hard to use the button combos to get it into download mode.
if i can get odin to flash it back to stock,i'll master clear it. question is should i root it again before flashing the GB bootloaders to install serendipity VII?

Nope, root isn't needed to flash that ROM.

Good to hear there's a glimmer of hope. If you do manage to get there, you might want to make an EFS backup before moving any further, just so you have one more tool in your arsenal of preventing phone problems.
After reading this whole thread I think your problem is that you now have gingerbread bootoaders and your button combos have changed and you don't know it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897
i think you may be right about having the GB bootloaders. now first question is how to i manage to make an efs back up? secondly, if i have the GB bootloaders then what do i do to flash the complete serendiptiy VII onto the phone? the reason why i ask is because the phone just quit downloading the flash in the middle of the download and that's when all hell broke loose. lolol. but you guys are right. i might just have a glimmer of hope.
If you do have the GB bootloaders, you should (theoretically) be able to get to download mode with the volume - & power button combination. This may take a little fiddling to find a timing after you've started the phone to find out when you can get to it.
As far as flashing Serendipity, you could try, but my advice would be to try and get to stock Eclair first and then go forwards. You're in a place with a lot of variables, and stock Eclair would be as variable-free as you're likely to get.
As far as backing up the EFS, under the CWM recovery menu, there's an option to make a nandroid backup. That's step 1. Once you've made the backup, just copy it from the clockworkmod folder to a safe place.
well i've got an update now. got everything back to factory 2.1 eclair and then i did a master reset in the phone because now i can't get into the recovery menu or the download menu and one click root will not work on my phone now at all. it keeps saying failed.

+1 on the jig...odin is very finicky and a jig will get you to download mode when you need it most...

[Q] I think I bricked my Captivate flashing Serendipity

I had Cognition 4 flashed but had a problem that whenever the battery was removed when the phone was on, about half of my apps, wifi, and texting would force close on reboot and never be able to open until I reflashed Cogntion. Because of this, I decided to try Serendipity VII. I put the zip file on my phone, rebooted into recovery, then tried to do the same thing that I did for Cognition. When I did this it said that it was installing, then said install complete without rebooting. I decided to reboot the phone, and when I tried, it keeps looping on the att screen. I do not see the battery charge signal when I plug it in. I see a loading gear for the battery for about five seconds, then the screen has electric looking blue lines flash through the center and then nothing. I cannot boot into recovery or download, it just keeps looping on the ATT screen.

How do I force it into download mode?
So you tried flashing a GB rom without first flashing GB bootloaders?
You should have read and followed the installation instructions on the Serendipity download page. Start Odin one click, see if you can get phone into download mode by any combo and see if Odin sees it. Flash stock and start again.
*If you're not on Gingerbread, you should be shot*

Thanks for all the help, I will be buying a jig from amazon for about ten bucks. I hope this works. But if it doesn't, at least this will teach me to read instructions before doing something that I don't understand very well.
to get into download mode press volume down instead of volume up to get u into recovery, at first i screwed up too somewhat like you so what i did is removed the battery for a minute, put it back in press volume down middle and power button to get into download then use odin to flash a new 2.3.4 gingerbread that u can get from this forum just look through and ull find it, make sure u put the pit file phone file, pda and csc files and make sure u check the repartition auto reboot and freset time checked on then press start hope it helped

Sir try this one last thing, remove your USB Cable from your PC, remove your battery...
While holding down both (Up and Down) volume buttons, insert the battery and THEN connect your phone to your PC through USB, see if this puts it into Download mode.
If not, try doing the same just holding down the DOWN volume button. Hope this helps, it seems as if these combinations kind of vary from phone to phone. Cheers

I tried this and all it did was do the att loop screen thing. Also, my computer dinged that it saw a usb device being plugged in, but then the restart loop restarts the phone and continues this indefinitely. Thanks for the help anyway.
You don't need to buy a jig, just go do that thing where you get three (or four) resistors in series that totals 301k ohms and touch them to specific contacts in the usb port of your phone... look it up on xda, it's worked for most people.

Thanks, but I already screwed up my phone by doing something that I did not fully understand, it's a small wonder that I can use Linux and not be too confused. I think I will take the easy way out with this one.
Hmm I remember that often when I tried to put my phone into recovery mode or download, whenever I held the Power Button down, it would just keep looping. When you but the battery on and connect your phone, make sure you are not holding the Power button, just the volume ones. Perhaps it is your case?

It loops if whether or not I hold any buttons down. If I hold the power button down while trying to get into download mode, then it just turns it off.
Turn off the phone, remove the battery, get a stock odin one click for the captivate.
I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0 seems to be a reliable flash when I run into trouble.
Start odin, plug the phone into the USB cable, hold the volume up/down key or try any combination up/down or both. Insert the battery and hopefully it will go into download mode.
Been reliable so far...
Hi. I'm unable to get into recovery mode after I flashed the Talon kernel as per the instructions here.
http://www.team-continuum.net/forum...ses/(guide)general-installation-instructions/
I'm consistently able to get into download mode and reflashed the talon 0.1.2 kernel as per the instructions there, but still to no avail. Any other suggestions to get my phone into CWM ?
Im trying to flash Continuum 6
Might as well get the Jig easy Download mode xD. I made mine myself cost a whole $2.50 for one xD

[Q] Stuck in Recovery mode

I have a Samsung Captivate (I897) but I accidentally installed the I9000 firmware on it. Now my home button acts like the back button, The 3 button combo doesn't work, and the back button doesn't work at all. I tried to get it to do SOMETHING and somehow I got it into recovery mode but now i cant get it out and get it to boot up. It shows the normal recovery mode options and i can scroll down and up but I can't select anything because it says use the "select" button but there is no "select" button on the I897. All I need is to get into download mode and i can probably fix it from there. I want to flash it back to factory settings so my fiance can use it. Can someone please help me? I've been searching the forums for days trying to find the same issue but to no avail.
What I9000 firmware? If it was a gingerbread build the button combo for download mode is vol down and power, otherwise it should be the same both volumes then plug in ausb cable... or make a jig.
And just for the hell of it try using the menu button to select something in recovery.
Holy F man you are the man!! i used the volume down and power button and its now in download mode. Now I can try to flash it back with Odin. Thank you soooooo much!!
ok so i tried that and now it wont even turn on at all. idk whats goin on with it. i may just have to send it in to samsung...

Probably Hard Bricked

I have a G973F that I managed to root and get TWRP installed. I attempted to install the BeyondROM but wouldn't make it past the logo screen so I attempted to flash the original firmware for my device using Odin. There were no errors when I flashed the firmware but the system still didn't boot. I tried to do a factory reset from the recovery menu and it seemed like it completed but now my device will only turn on with "Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed" at the top. It does not attempt to boot the OS and turns off a few seconds after I release the power button. I have held the Bixby+Vol Up buttons to attempt to get into recovery, doesn't work. I have held Bixby+Vol Down buttons and plugged my phone into my computer to try and boot download mode, doesn't work.
I can't do anything at this point. Does anyone have a way I can use to recover from this?
Hi I got plenty of times this msg "Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed". You don't have to worry about it. Just try to flash Official Stock and it will be fine.

Thats the tricky part but I know its hard. Try to press together Bixby + Power button. As soon as it goes off then suddenly press Bixby + Volume Down button and attach data cable. I got the same issue because you have only few seconds to do it. If you cant do it then try to get some help of your friend or relatives etc. I am damn sure you can do this. You take reponsibility of buttons and tell your friend to attach the cable once it goes off. And sorry for my bad english
