Can I restore a Kies backup from one S III mini to another S III mini ?
Well, I just tried. Worked partially, didn't restore:
- any accounts (mail, google...)
- shortcuts for apps and widgets on the homescreens (it dit however restore the background image)
UBT (with adb) isn't any better.
So, you'll not lose any data (don't know for POP mail however).
Well, seems like Skype account was restored (possibly because it's not a native app)

Hi hi,
I flash ROMs quite often, and always having problem with duplicate contact & calendar entries when syncing with my work laptop after each ROM upgrade.
My workaround is to manually delete those duplicate entries, I know there are some program out there to easily clean duplicates.
My question is that, what is the proper way of syncing to prevent duplicate entries from happening in the first place? eg. making sure device name is the same, don't restore from PIM backup, etc.
This what I usually do.
1. ROM upgrade
2. Restore from PIM backup
3. Delete mobile device from my ActiveSync
4. Connect Kaiser to Laptop
5. Setup new sync connection
6. Sync
Is the step above incorrect?
Extra info:
- I connect my Kaiser to two laptops
- 1st laptop is home laptop - nothing is synced, only used for Internet connection & charging kaiser
- 2nd laptop is work laptop - syncing calendar, contacts, & mail
Thanks in advance

What things u want to have saved(contacts, tasks,...). If u want to have saved just contacts, tasks and appointments, u dont need to use pim backup. Just sync your phone after the rom upgrade with a pc.
These are my usual steps:
1. sync phone with pc(contacts, tasks, appointments)
2. pim backaup my call logs, sms, mms
3. rom upgrade
4. setup new sync partnership(without deleting the old one) and sync
5. restore the settings via pim backup
EDIT: or u can use sktools for deleting the duplicate contacts, ...
That happens when you restore contacts, appointments etc..from PIM backup and choose the "Combine the items on my device with the items on this computer" option when you setup the new partnership.
Solution: Restore SMS's from PIM and let M$ Outlook take care of the contacts and calendar entries bit...
Beaten by Mikulec ...
ah.. ic.. so the trick is only restore sms, call logs, etc from PIM. Do not restore calendar & contacts.
I was considering that, but I was just afraid that.. if I don't restore calendar & contacts, the next time I sync, it will wipe out all my calendar & contacts in my work laptop (ie. laptop mirrors what's in kaiser).
Is there anything that I need to be aware of, to ensure that after first sync all my calendar & contacts won't be cleared because my kaiser has no calendar entries in it?
Thanks for your help, hopefully this 'll help others with similar prob.

U can try to backup also your contacts and appointments with pim backup, but use the steps that I wrote(restore only call logs, sms... via backup). In case the sync goes wrong and it will not restore your contacts,... u can use pim backup to restore them.
I wonder if there is an app that could backup my phonebook cause tried several times with HTC Sync unsuccesfully

Google is your one and only friend.
How to backup android and HTC Hero phone
As for free, there is Handy backup for android. among others
TS
All of your contacts are backed up to the Google servers. If you go to your Gmail account on the internet and click contacts, you will see them all. My phone went in for repair and 5 minutes after setting up my phone all of my contacts had downloaded to my phone.
You can also use/try:
http://beta.flexilis.com
Flexilis features:
Anti-Virus
Backup (Phonebook and media)
Locate: (GPS location and "Scream" mode to locate your lost/stollen/ misplaced device)
There are two programs that perfectly worked on my htc hero: Sprite backup for android and Vcard IO. First one options for contacts, sms, app etc backup.
rippir, thanks for the info. I just got an HTC Hero 2 days ago and have been on the lookout for all the "must have" apps for it. Just downloaded Lookout (which was formerly Flexilis) and am very impressed.
Good info!
I use MyBackupPro from Rerware. It backs Data & Apps to your SD card or to their secure website. You can even schedule auto backups either daily or weekly at a specified time.
Free version for testing if you wish.
Small fee for this app if you like it. I used the free verison 2 hot minutes, fell in love and bought the Pro version.
Found in the Android Market, search for: MyBackup
You can see more infor on their site: www.rerware.com
you can backup your contacts from gmail
go to gmail -> contacts -> Export
Sorry if these Qs have been answered before - I tried finding them using the search function for the better part of the afternoon/evening, but...
Are there any decent ROMs that either include the stock Samsung apps (Samsung IM, Email, etc.), or is there an easy(ish) way to load them on after the fact (ADB push/install)? I made a Titanium BU of the stock Samsung apps that shipped with the phone, but when I tried either restore App or Restore App+Data, I ended up with FCs on the apps. Does this have to do with a bad B/U, or is it because I backed them up on 2.1 and am trying to restore them on 2.2?
Also, I've noticed that I can't create SNS accounts on my phone anymore, and the "Integrated contact accounts" section of Accounts & Sync has no option to add accounts. All I have is the option to create "other" accounts. I liked the tighter feeling integration of having my accounts added as part of the ROM itself without needing to install the Facebook or Twitter apps, but I suppose I have to take what I can get.
Thanks!
Well, for whatever firmware your rom was made for, you can take a stock, deodexed version of that and start readding applications from that. That is what I've been using from a JPX stock on my phone for the last 2 weeks or so.....
Hi,
in terms of backups wp8 already has a lot of backup .. skydrive.. whatever automation.
But i am wondering what would happen if i swap my phone due to "damage" for example to minimize the backup work.
On my TP3 i had spb backup that backed everything up for me. it was a joy to swap the phone.
Do i need another programm on wp8 or is everything synced in the cloud with skydrive and microsoft account?

You have to turn on backup from settings. I can vouch that backup works well as my 8X keeps breaking... And takes a long time to be fixed. Screw you HTC!
Back on topic, 4 main things are backed up
1. Text messages (REMEMBER TO TURN IT ON)
2. Apps installed on your phone (App data is NOT backed up)
3. Your accent color (Home screen layout is not backed up)
4. Settings (Except home screen layout as stated)
Everything is automated if you TURN IT ON. It is linked to your MIcrosoft account, and AFAIK does not use skydrive storage.
Did I forget to state to TURN BACKUP ON?
Text messaging backup is off by default. TURN IT ON It's a lifesaver.
is the information about email accounts backed up as well? like fb gmail etc? or do i have to add them in manually again
1 there is no full phone backup, in wp, yet

Account info is backed up, but your password needs to be entered again.
I am having no luck trying to migrate all of the data that is in S Planner on a S5 to a newly purchased S10e.
I have tried doing a full backup of the S5 with Samsung SmartSwitch, as well as only backing up the calendar, but when I do a restore on the S10e it is only seeing 9 items in the calendar backup, when there are actually hundreds of entries in the calendar.
The restore is being done by direct connection of the two phones via cable, not WiFi. It all seems to go as it should, but, as mentioned, all of the calendar events on the S5 are not being migrated.
I have scoured the web for possible solutions, but have found none, hence this post.
Surely it should not be this hard to migrate all of the calendar data from one phone to another.
Is there an alternative method, other than SmartSwitch, that I can use to migrate the data?
Am I missing something simple here?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Go to Calendar app info, in settigs, force stop it, the clear it's data & cache, then migrate it's data from smart switch, don't open the app,
Reboot, and see if it's all there.
SOLVED
Thanks for the response @Mohamedkam000, but I solved the problem myself using a 3rd party PC application.
The problem, as I see it, was that all of the calendar entries, bar 9, were saved to the PC Sync calendar database, which SmartSwitch did not recognize or backup. Who knew???
I got a copy of Wondershare MobileTrans which found and backed up all of the calendar entries [2560 of them] from the old phone and successfully transferred them to the new phone.
Hopefully this solution will be helpful to someone else, who may find themselves in a similar predicament as me.
