[Q] CIFS module - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is there cifs module there for S3 mini?

If there is no CIFS module for S3 Mini, does anybody know, how I can mount a windows share in a local network?
thanks

Yes, it's working, but I need to run shellscript via Tasker, which mounts a local samba share, then copy there my backups and finally unmount. I don't know how ES file explorer knows this, I think it has an own CIFS module.

Ok, now I understand.
I'm using for such procedure FolderSync / available at market as lite version as well, so you can test it.
I personally do not use it in combination with Tasker but reffering to FolderSync description, such combination should work well

Thanks, it is working well. But I hope, a kernel with cifs module will be avaible in the future.

[Module] tun.ko for stock 2.6.32.9 (for openvpn/vpnc/etc)

Compiled from the recent kernel source dump. Loaded just fine into the stock kernel, /dev/tun device created. I haven't had a chance yet to test out openvpn, but will later today.
Also, now that there's a tun/tap driver for the base android system, it should work within the webtop environment as well.
Enjoy.
EDIT: Tested with OpenVPN from the Market (Installer and Settings apps) and works fine.
I will be watching closely. I need vpn badly!
Where does the file go?
I put it in /system/lib/modules, but it can go pretty much anywhere if you're using it with the openvpn settings app, since you can specify the path that insmod uses.
I put it in /system/lib and it works fine with VPNC Widget. Thanks!
What exactly does this do? I hate to sound like a noob

It gives us the virtual tunneling network interface so we can use openvpn.

I owe you a beer sir. With the past week to other good people in xda forums, I owe three beers in total.
Oh crap, I need root for OVPN and I upgraded to beta release. Oh well, time to SBF to stock.
Great find my friend !!! will this module work only on the android side or can it be worked in with the webtop side too ?

Instead of using the android openvpn binary, you could use one compiled for linux arm within the webtop and it should work just fine.
1. lsmod shows tun.ko
2. VPNC set to enable VPN
3. Unable to ping any resources on the remote network. VPN says never connected.
Any thoughts on where to go from here?
This is a Cisco VPN I am connecting to.
Run a logcat either from adb shell or through ConnectBot/Terminal Emulator on phone and see what vpnc is doing during connection.
Tested and verified this works perfect with my Atrix connecting to an ASA 5500 Cisco appliance using IpSec. I made a video that will help people trying to understand all this. Just go to youtube and type android vpn. I'll be one of the first 5 videos and it's a 2 parter.
Thanks OP! I was looking for this back when I got my ATRIX and had no luck.

I'm getting a connection, but no traffic is flowing through it. My laptop can connect though. Nothing returns a ping on the other end.

Try out the attached. The vermagic should match your OTA kernel exactly.
EDIT: Attachment removed (not working)
Getting -1 Unknown symbol in module
Can you post the last 20 lines of dmesg after trying the insmod?

[Q] Getting OpenVPN to Work

I currently pay for a VPN service called Hide My Ass and it works nicely on my computer. I can use it on my Bionic but I would like to use OpenVPN. I installed from the Market the two OpenVPN Settings and Installer and copied the config files to the SD card. I found it here http://hidemyass.com/vpn-config/ Now for some reason when I try to log in to the VPN it won't connect. If anyone has any input on how to make this work I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
You need a tun.ko kernel module, and based on the word kernel and the locked bootloader I don't even know if that module would even help in any way.
I think this kernel has tun built in... I use vpnc all the time and it needs one too.

OpenVPN will not work with OpenVPN and OpenVPN settings because there is no tun.ko kernel module. Tried this myself and nope, it's not going to work. There might be a way if there is a talented dev out there. I know that the boot has to be signed but I don't know about kernel modules. Beyond the module itself will the kernel even allow you to start a module anyway?

No install . apk option in Cwm?

I just installed Cm 7 alpha 3 and I am trying to install the latest Skype but it fails when I just run the . apk and when I go into cwm I do not have the install. Apk?
Anyone know how I can install this..?

you dont install apks in cwm, you do it in android.
go to settings-> applications, and check the unknown sources box
then go to the file manager built into android, navigate to the apk, and then click on it. you will be prompted to install the app.
hit install and it will be installed.
Cheers, I will try that tomorrow.

"File Manager" is not built in to the version Sony Ericsson uses. Glad to see it on the TouchPad though. Let me ask: Is there a "notepad" or "notes" app that is supposed to be built in? SE didn't include one of those either.
If you're looking for an amazing file explorer replacement ES File Explorer is AMAZING! It looks great, has gesture support and even skins/themes.

I've actually used it before and I do agree: It's good. I was just curious about the "built in" statement because, to my knowledge, there is no standard one "built in" to Android and it can be a problem.
CM7 has one built it but a pure AOSP build like the SDK doesn't IIRC.

Download one from Play Store. ES should get you started.
I use file manager hd, from rhythm software, available free in the play store. Use the version for tablets, it works great.

Well what Rom have you Flashed? The more information you provide the easier it is to provide an answer, as the gapps will vary depending on your Rom.

How to get standard Samsung video app installed?

Hi, I wondered if there was any way for me to get the standard Samsung video player app installed on my 3110 running [ROM][Hybrid][JB:CM10] Paranoid Android 2.51+ - Legacy?
I extracted SecTabletVideoPlayer.APK from a Samsung 4.1.1 rom and tried to install but it stopped part way through with a generic not installed message?
Thanks
Dom
You could try to copy that APK to /system/app/ and set its permission to rw_,r__,r__. Then reboot your tab. I haven't tried to install that myself, but it might work.

It won't work... It needs the TouchWiz framework and other files, that don't exist in non-TouchWiz roms. I've also wanted that and tried, but no go. Not the video player, the music player, the calendar, the S-Planner, nothing done by Samsung works.

Download Redirection in Nougat?

Good day, afternoon or evening, I do not know if there is a possibility to make a module for Magisk , which serves to redirect the downloads of applications (No browsers) to other download manager (like ADM)

Hm hm yeah i see..
Personally, i don't think that an Magisk module app like that will be release in months because the only Magisk module who add an dedicated app with modifications/improvments is for Youtube..
After that, if an Magisk module is release for make theses actions we will be happy :good:
