Question [Q] Any Fix for No Picture Messaging?
[Q] Any Fix for No Picture Messaging?
Hello,
FYI I have looked using the xda forum search functions and cannot find the question or answer for this.
Is there a fix for this, anyone? I can't send picture messages. Receive seems OK. I can receive picture emails, and have received a couple of MMS with small pictures. I just cannot SEND. I have searched and have not been able to locate the question asked or answered, especially for this ROM. I have been on XBSA ICS ROM v5 for a while now. I have most issues resolved (keys, text message length, etc.), BUT, I cannot seem to send picture MMS no matter what I try. Messaging app and GO SMS Pro both stay stuck on send. I have tried:
- GO SMS (great for text, no picture send)
- regular Messaging app (inverted and not inverted, whatever that is)
- Multiple settings (preserve image size, don't preserve image size, manual entry of APN, etc., etc.)
- I have tried using the mms.apk for ICS from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1591989
- Before that (above) I used mms-non-inverted.apk that was in the XBSA v5.2 ROM (or the original ROM, whichever it arrived in)
- I have viewed the suggested links presented when starting this thread (clearing messaging app cache, etc.)
My APN (Straight Talk) is set up; calls, texts, internet, GPS all OK. Is this a network issue? Baseband? If so, what/why?
My phone is LG Thrill P925 with XBSA SU670 ICS ROM, 'Jeckyll and Hyde' kernel with no additional clock changes
I also use straight talk. I'm not on ICS but I did have the same problem, the issue turned out to be one of my apn settings.

So I've been lurking and learning a lot on these forums. I have tried 3 different ROMS (wiping everything in-between) and none of them seem to be able to send text messages that need to be automatically broken up into more than one message. Instead it just fails. Shorter messages send just fine.
I am currently running the newest Zen Aria release I downloaded from here on 9/2/10.
I Had the same problem with CM 6 and another ROM I can't remember. I was hoping Zen would fix the problem since it is a 2.1 release with Sense.
Any ideas as to what I need to do to fix the problem?
Thanks from noob.
Are you using the stock messenger? If so, try Handcent. I know that it will send 160+ character messages on CM6, as I just sent a grocery list to the wife.

Thanks for the quick reply! I just tried Handcent, nice program. Unfortunately, I still would get a failure notice whenever I tried to send a message with more than 160 characters. Any more ideas out there?
In Handcent, do you have the option turned on to split 160+ character messages?
Menu -> Settings -> Send message settings -> Split 160
By default I believe this is turned off, so you have to turn it on.
This is a known issue that occurs on any rom except for cdma based sense roms. The Aria port is from a gsm phone, the frameworks are different. The cdma hero roms have something in the background that auto splits messages, AOSP and GSM ports lack this built in functionality so you must use handcent or chomp and turn on splitting in the options.
So I wanted to see if it was a problem with the ROMS, so I installed the
[ROM] Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK and it worked fine.
Then I came back here and read your messages.
I didn't check for an option in handcent DOH!
And I figured it must of been a ROM problem and you confirmed it for me.
Thanks for all your help!!
Hi all
I've been having some issues for a while with sending and receiving MMS messages. I'm using Owain build #80, with the included kernel. I'm on BB 1035.21_20110725 and RIL 0725 (V10d, Europe). My carrier is BiBob (who is on the CM MMS carrier list), and my MMS settings appear to be correct.
When receiving a MMS message I can see that one has been sent to me, but I'm not able to download the image. It's just stuck at a "downloading message" and three days later my carrier lets me see the image on their webpage instead, when sending an image it's just stuck at "sending".
I hope someone is able to help me, and that I've just missed some trivial setting somewhere.
Thanks!
Noone else having had a similar problem and came up with a solution?
I had this problem on a cm7 build.. here's what I did...
1. I installed go SMS from the market
2. Googled the APN settings for my network (pay as you go and contract are different)
3. Manually entered the APN settings in go SMS (found under ...settings .. mms settings.. manual apn...
Viola mms working.. try that and let me know how u get on

It works! Tyvm. Just gotta get used to this new app, it looks a little heavy, but should be fine.
Hey Guys,
Running the RemICS 1.3.2 with baseband KPL. This updated version of this ROM is really good especially since fixing issues with the camera etc.
One thing I have noticed:
I can send pictures and media via MMS and Whatsapp absolutely fine. Although I have a strange issue receiving. I will receive an MMS and be notified of receiving an MMS. I open the default messaging app but no picture, no option to view attachment and no picture downlaoded anywhere on phone although it has received the MMS. Using Whatsapp, I have a very similar issue, I will receive a picture in a conversation and I can see the thumbnail preview. Although clicking this or the 'Download' button appears to do nothing. BUT when I look within the phone or gallery, within the Whatsapp media folder is the file name of this picture ending in .jpg although showing no size (0kb) and it displays a blank thumbnail within the gallery.
It seem as this ROM as an 'issue' handling images to be downloaded via a messaging app. I have not checked other media or other apps. Could this be related to the 'old camera issue' in the older ROM versions?
It has nothing to do with my MMS, APN or NETWORK settings, I have plenty of 3G coverage, WIFI and have even tried downloading via 2G to no avail.
Is this a known fault with this ROM? Is this just my unit? Is there a fix or solution?
Please help because it is irritating me!
If no fix, I may have to change to another ROM. Can anyone recommend a slick looking ROM with good performance and excellent battery longevity?
***BUT I DO LOVE THIS ROM SO WOULD APPRECIATE A FIX***
Thanks
Hi,
I'm running the stock ICS on a Droid 4 in the UK (on the T-Mobile/EE network).
Everything is working fine apart from the MMS facility within the stock "Messages" application which doesn't seem to be able to send or receive MMS messages. However, the odd thing (well, I think it's odd) is that Handcent can send and receive MMS messages just fine, which shows the capability is there (and presumably the APN stuff is ok?), and it could just be settings somewhere?
Does anybody have the same problem, or a suggestion for a solution?
Cheers,
Steve.
Bump - nobody any ideas?
I did some tricks about mms, but it's still not so stable. I recommend to install one more sms/mms app for sending mms.
I've been having a lot of problems with MMS since picking up the Active and switching to AT&T.
I usually use Handcent, but right now it's pretty worthless when it comes to group messages or receiving a picture. in both the stock messaging app and Handcent settings I have it set to group messages, and to automatically download. when I receive an MMS, though, I still have to click on download (and they won't download at all in Handcent even after clicking).
say I receive a group text from someone and 3 other people respond. both apps now display 4 different entries, one for each person. if I open each individual's thread and click download (again just in the stock app) the messages will be removed from that individual's thread and then be added to a group thread.
this is pretty frustrating, and I really want it solved. is this an AT&T issue (I was on VZW riding the Droid train before) or something with the phone?
a little update on this:
sending of MMS is also way less than ideal, either not sending at all, or taking a really really long time. I tried to send a picture earlier and it took 40 minutes before it finally went through. my searching of the interwebs leads me to believe it's perhaps an APN issue? it would be strange if the default settings out of the box prevent it from working, though. anyone else have an issue with this?
MMS is horrible for me on Handcent, too. I have to open the stock Messaging app just to download an MMS and sometimes that doesn't work, either. I also tried AT&T Messages, but it won't ever even setup correctly.
