hi ppl i need help i was flashing my note with ReVolt-JB-20130107 everything was going well, i nipped out of the room for 2 mins and the phone was dead wont go into recovery or download mode so not detected by odin
iv pulled the battery and still nothing ?, i got the phone 2nd hand so dont think it will have warranty
is it fit for bin or is it fixable :crying: cheers
What was your phone configuration before flashing the revolt rom?
Test.......
Looks familiar?
i rooted the note off the sdcard with cwm
then i installed superSU
then was installing revolt when it happened
Ok so you used cwm.zip from the sd card to get cwm recovery. The you flash supersu. You got root. Then how did you get cwm?
If you have flashed the rom using cwm.zip, the phone is probably bricked.

I don't have my first coffee finished and so maybe I'm too sensitive right now. But why are the numbers of people using CWM.zip and getting into trouble raising?
So he should do the same as other members in the last days: check the eMMC and if bricked use the repartition workaround (see hg42's thread for detailed informations and howtos).
Or send the device to Samsung for a motherboard replacement and complete repair.
Edit: better to follow a hint that nokiamodeln91 gave before to another "bricker". In that case it helped. Use the e2fsck-method for check and possible repair. See the thread here for the help and details nokiamodeln91 gave in the other case.
iv used cwm loads of times with no trouble does anyone think a jig will help or send it to be repaired by jtag
its out off warranty so cant send it ss
also i put my note on charge last nite got up this morning to find the battery cold? its usually warm after charging alnight
Good morning Thai. It's not just you. But all of a sudden cwm.zip has creeped up again. Don't know how?

If what you install using cwm.zip does not have a wipe command (installing supersu, rooting) , you could survive using it. But when you install a rom or perform a wipe, it's going to do all sorts of bad things to your phone.
got a jig this morning but no luck:crying: does anybody no if a jtag will work coz iv found a site that will do jtag for £30 :fingers-crossed:
There is no guarantee that a JTAG will work. Most of the times it won't if the cpu is fried
How can a software damage a hardware? I don't understand.
There should be a tutorial for doos and don't doos, for a new note owner before he tries root and flash a rom, with strict warnings and must be read. I feel sorry for all those who get into trouble / bricks. I think you are a right person to write up.
Edit : covering all possibilities of bricks, complete and comprehensive.

I think it's because people get it off YouTube, RootGalaxyNote.com and other places where there are no warnings about the dangers of CWM.zip. Then after they get into trouble with it, they come here.....

Search in XDA for the "site name" and see if some members tell something about them.
If I would brick my device (until now I was lucky), I would bite the bullet (I checked Leo.org for the translation of "in den sauren Apfel beissen") and send it to Samsung for repair.
Even if they make the workaround for this money you'll never have a fully working device again.

I had bricked my phone when I did a factory reset. I was running stock ICS. I managed to revive the phone using PIT files and have now installed stock GB. when I try to update the firmware from the settings option, it downloads the new ICS firmware but on reboot the installation fails and I am back to GB. Also the phone keeps restarting when I try to install an app. I bought my galaxy note in India, but currently reside in USA so warranty is ruled out. Are the above problems caused by the faulty eMMC chip. Is it possible to repair the chip using JTAG or any other method.
Thanks
how?

as far as i know, yeah mate, we´ve got the horrible (SAMSUNGS FAULT) eMMC bug, i would suggest you make it manually MS-DOS by using the 4PDA KERNEL for text writing MS-DOS and the ABYSS KERNEL for testing roms and stuff. it took me a week and counting trying this re-partition stuff, but i´m becoming an expert as i walk the road lol let me give you the two guides i´m based: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26285877&postcount=12 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26428986&postcount=1. i actually tried the PIT FILES stuff, but i managed to get only 2gb of storage, and now by doing it manually i got 8gb of storage, half of stock, but not bad huh? xD... by the way , this is so frustrating, and i KNOW THA FEEL BRO lol, keep up the good work and make research in this two guides. CHEER UP! it´s not all lost, hope SAMSUNG releases a fix to this SHAME!

There's nothing else you could do - unless you have the equipment in order to JTAG it. Either claim warranty on it or search for repair stores nearby.
You think so? When I connect it to the pc, it keeps connecting and disconnecting, if that helps... There's nothing more to try?

Yeah, that happened with my S3 mini, it had semi hard brick... Well it could go into download mode and I flashed all kinds of stock ROMs, recoveries and params and it made no change whatsoever! How did I know this? I tried flashing stock recovery and when I booted into recovery, it just showed TeamWin splash screen for 1 second and shut off. So I determined that the eMMC chip is screwed up! I tried a repair shop but they gave up so I spoke to Amazon customer service saying that my phone just won't turn on so they gave me a free replacement (no quibbles) with a free complementary upgrade to first class. I just drained the battery by leaving it on download mode so they wouldn't easily found out! The contract of sales lies with the seller, not for you to wait a month for the manufacturer to fix it. Since then I haven't rooted it as I'm scared that it could brick again. That's why I wanted an official KitKat upgrade which Samsung don't give for bs reasons!
But what if they are able to fix it with jtag box or something?

You can just use VRoot. It's easy to achieve root with it After rooting and installing a custom recovery ALWAYS do a nandroid backup before trying to flash or modify ANYTHING! That's what I do and never spend more than 10 mins (the time required to restore my nandroid) with a bricked phone

Don't bother trying to revive it if it's hard bricked. Because they won't find out about the root if they can't turn it on.

OK guys, if any one can actually help me with this... I will be eternally grateful, as my return time frame is up.
Stupidly I flashed a rom that clearly said before wiping anything to remove the finger print settings... Of course I forgot and flashed anyways. Regardless the flash failed, so obviously i recovered a nandroid. But thats is where the problem escalated. After recovery I noticed that i was getting an error on the finger print set up. OK, whatever I Odin flashed back to stock (sammobile of course) after the device was back to stock... LAG... not just a little lag... ridiculous lag. Since this has been the case I have Odin flashed repeatedly trying to resolve, with very little luck.
I have disabled in dev settings the Animation scale, to no avail...
PLEASE GOD SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME GOOD NEWS ON THIS. I early hardware upgraded this from rogers and paid out the ass for it, and of course have lost my ability to return the device as it was working flawlessly before I unleashed my stupidity on it...

I forgot to wipe my fingerprint settings my first time, too. Not a big deal. Totally fixable.
First things first.
Have you done a factory reset?
Yeah, I'd start with a factory reset, as well.
Rogers is the Canadian version correct?
How many stock versions of the firmware do you guys have?
We have 2 in America. Anj and ank.
If you guys have more than one which are you flashing?
The lag is the stuff you did after you messed up the finger printer scanner trying to fix it.
Does your private mode work?
If not have you tried the private mode fix?
Factory reset has been attempted repeatedly, to no avail...
Privacy mode does work actually.
Rogers has 2 firmwares on sammobile, i have odin flashed both. But lag is still persisting.
Its literally every other word i type. Driving me MENTAL LOL

You guys are awesome for the assistance btw. This is the first time in 4 Samsung devices ive done something that im SERIOUSLY concerned was going to be... Unfixable.
I could care less about the finger print scanner, the lag is... Bad.
Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk 4
Are you using team win recovery or clockwork mod.
And, what if anything have you wiped through recovery?
Which rom did you flash?
Attempted flashing ib4stids rapture rom.
At the moment im stock unrooted, was using twrp, his instructions advised to factory reset, then advanced wipe data, system, cache, dalvic... I think that was it without looking at the page.
Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk 4
I'd re root. And then try firekat.
Making sure of course you didn't leave old fingerprint files.
Then try out the fp scanner and check for lag and report back.
Im experiencing the same exact thing, tried to go stock rom and factory reset three times. I even redownlaoded everything and did it all over again. Tried firekat, dynamic rom, and even cm12 runs a little sluggish. I'm getting a replacement phone at least
So does this lag come from not wiping your fingerprint from your STOCK rom before you flashed a new rom?
Weird thing is, on my other note 4 I never experienced this. I'm pretty sure I forgot to delete fingerprints and then I flashed firekat and no lag.
Thanks guys, MERRY XMAS, if you guys are into that. I have a few thoughts atm, but am away from my pc till tonight. I am determined to get this resolved, and will be checking back and updating on progress as it happens.
Thank you all for the assistance, definitely renewing my faith is Xda.

Maybe we're talking defective units.
I think btort may have the right idea by getting a replacement.
My scanner works and if there's lag I'm too full of Christmas cheer to see it.

I mean I soft bricked before and everything and there were no problems like this.
ok
1
When I do a start over flash at the moment I flash anj.
I don't know what tmobile put into ank and until I do its not going on my phone.
(The canadian fellow would flash the earlier version of the rogers stock rom).
Using Odin 3.04. (I'm just not as happy with the later versions of Odin).
2
I flash chainfire.
3
Then the team win recovery.
4
I flash firekat before the phone tries to update.
5
I do the sd card fix with the team win recovery.
6
I do the private mode fix with the team win recovery.
7
I update my modem to ank with the modem trick.
(Canadian users do not have the modem.bin files to do this at this time and should leave their modems alone). I'll try to rip them. It doesn't matter anyway. The 2 modems available are the same anyway.
8
My root apps come back automatically.
Adfree, cachemate, titanium, etc
9
I freeze the bloat.
---------- Post added at 08:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:17 PM ----------
I love firekat btw and all the other roms, of course.
But I'm recommending it because it's the longest running rom. Known to work on the Canadian version of the note 4 and he's been fixing lag / and it's similar enough to stock to fix errant flashing.
And from the set up described you could flash any TouchWiz based rom.
That's about right.
Throwing a factory reset in the mix can help as well. I'm coming back from stock Odin flashes with the same background and ring tones and settings etc.

I wanted to run this by you guys. If i were to intentionally mess up the phone. IE pull the cable mid odin flash. then repair via kies... would that fix this issue?
Thoughts? Concerns? Input? Obviously I am going to wait for input from people before i do something this drastic. But I think it might resolve?
I wish it was a defective issue. The devise was used to 2-3 weeks before I decided to flash a rom, causing this... The phone was flawless until i messed it up.

It really won't update everything and you won't have the full COD6 update. Suggest you buy/borrow a windows computer and use odin.
Along with most backups if I made one it would have a lot of my back up info. What do you think would happen if I am using let's say twrp 2.8.4 and your not. Or it uploaded with my efs. You flash then wonder why you have a brick. Or lets say a file got curroupted in upload or download. Way to much gonna go wrong. Ur free to try but I doubt you will find this a good path.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Somebody's got to do this. I'm pretty much screwed with work today, but it doesn't look tricky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163974

Why not just flash Jovy's stock rom for now:

That method is what I was trying to do, but if it was a kit Kat rom fine but every one keeps saying you have to use Odin before you can install lollipop. Also that's what led me to flashing the cod modem through twrp.
.....The name says it all. But I don't need a laptop currently, I'm away from my desktop and I don't know when I'll be near it again. I drive in a semi, throughout the states. That's why I made this unusual request. Later down the line I may get one but for now I like desktops.
That's why I was saying stock.... I should have also said before you actually complete the.......hmm times like this I wish mobile Odin would work for this phone.
