Days on HSPA+ but hours on WiFi... - Nexus 7 General

Nexus WiFi/3G:
I have searched but haven't found an answer in regard to the Nexus 7... I can go for days on battery power when Wi-Fi is off; the moment I turn on Wi-Fi - the battery lasts half a day under normal usage (at best),,
Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Turn wifi off? haha !!!
No sorry, you tried Tasker
Set it to turn wifi on with screen on, wifi off with screen off ?

I would think that HSPA+ would use more power than Wi-Fi - could this be a part of the google location service bug under Jelly Bean?

Either that or very extensive syncing tasks which occur only on wi-fi

While my 7 is WiFi only, I will say, contrary to most peoples reports of better battery life on WiFi, with my phone I have always gotten better results using mobile data. Though not that much of a difference.

See if that helps, it doesn't really stop you doing anything with it off.

I get great life using WiFi on my phone and tablet. My WiFi advanced settings are shown below.
I would also suggest using BetterBatteryStats to track down what's using up your battery.

It's probably something to do with the amount of accounts you have configured and what data they sync from their servers to your device. Such apps refuse to sync on mobile data as they know the data they transfer is a very large amount.
Go into each app that you have configured with background updates and lower their refresh intervals. Or if its in account management, download Synker, activate the sync notification service, and watch what syncs in and out of your device at various times.

WiFi has always been this way on my phone. WiFi, unless you select to have it shut off with inactivity will keep connected, all the time, like if you had it connected via Bluetooth, I believe also iirc, WiFi prevents deep sleep since it is always running. I could be wrong but I remember with the phone it was that way

I was also initially under the impression that WiFi would use less power because it was shorter range. But I think I read somewhere that mobile data is actually less power-intensive.
Which explains why there's the option under WiFi advanced settings to have WiFi turn off when the screen is off. Although I didn't think the difference was that major...

I'm afraid that is wrong.
Wifi does not stop your device from going into a deep sleep. The only time it would is if there is a wakelock constantly accessing the wifi therefore the phone can't sleep, if that's the case use Better Battery Stats to find out which app is causing the wakelock.

[Q] Extremely slow/laggy HSPA+ speeds on custom rom? Anyone?

Hey all, anyone getting horribly slow/high-latency data connections on T-Mobile HSPA+? I'm running the latest Android Revolution ROM and generally use my phone as a tether for my internet connection.
A few weeks ago I started noticing my connection and latency speeds becoming terrible. YouTube videos now buffer every 2 seconds or reset the video entirely, downloads take forever, hardly able to even stream music anymore without a dedicated connection.
I'm noticing the speeds both directly on the phone or when tethered to my computer. The funny thing is P2P connections still fly (1.1mbps in some cases) and speed test comes up with OK but inconsistent speeds.
Anyone else having speed issues on HSPA+ and if so were you able to work around it?

Sounds like an issue with your service provider; you should contact T-Mobile.
Someone else reported this and T-Mobile was upgrading masts in their vicinity.
Yeah I went over there and they said nothing is up with the towers. It's weird because I can, for example, start downloading an update for an app and it'll go pretty quick for about 10% then it just seems like the connection dies. The download will either fail or take all day.
Just to give you an idea of how truly slow this is here is a group of Speed-Test results

You'll notice that I do have full bars in my 4G Coverage. Think I need to get this replaced?

Have you flashed the latest 2.17 radio?
I would recommend that you go back to stock rom if you want better connections. Custom roms means that there will be code changes within it can affect the functionality of the m7.
Have you tried running a benchmark and speedtest.net diagnostic when after factory reset? It could be that one of your apps that is causing the problem.

WiFi Issues

Hi I just got the new moto x. And I've notice that there's a WiFi issue
When ever I disconnect the WiFi and turn it back on, first of all, it does not auto connect, and second, when I try to connect it looks like this

And it won't connect to the WiFi unless I turn Airplane mode on, then turn on WiFi, then turn AP mode on. Its such a Hassel.
Anythoughts?

I have one but have not had any issues like this. Have you tried forgetting the network and then reconnecting? Also are you having this issue on any other wireless networks?

My WiFi seems to cut out frequently without warning. It still shows that it is connected, but data doesn't transmit for some reason. After a moment, it might manage to reconnect and continue. I'm not sure what is wrong with it, but thought I might try turning off the battery saver WiFi option in case it's buggy. This is with my Netgear R7000 802.11ac router sitting about 10-15 feet away and other devices working just fine; meaning it's definitely the X having the problem. If I can't fix it, the phone goes back.

I've also noticed this issue while setting up my new moto x. My wifi dropped for a few moments 3-4 times within the first 10 minutes. We'll see if it keeps doing it...
I am up to level 4 corporate support at Moto now. I have emailed them all the links to forums with WiFi issues. I will keep updating when I hear back. Here is another thread about this too.

Wifi issue....

I started having this issue last night. When I am connected to my home wifi, I get a connection time out 100% of the time. My netbook, a laptop, and 2 other phones have no issues with the wifi. I have reset my router, no access to the modem, restarted phone with wifi on and off. Still the same thing. Has anyone else had this issue, or might know of a trick that I have not done yet?
Netbook is off most of the time, and the laptop is connected via wire. I connected wifi to make sure it was not my router.

Try these two tricks:
1) have the phone forget your wi-fi network and then re-enter the password.
2) go into wi-fi advanced settings,
select ALWAYS for "keep wi-fi on during sleep",
UNcheck "avoid poor connections" and
under frequency, set for 2.4GHz band only.

I found disabling the optimization and "Scanning always available" helps too. In my case, the issue was that I could see the router, but the phone would refuse to connect (or stay connected). Digging deeper showed that the phone would continually try to connect, then disconnect immediately. Not sure why it did this, but turning off all this other nonsense on the screen above fixed the problem for me.
It also fixed another related problem - I'd see "ghost" SSIDs in my list from other locations (nowhere near me)... needless to say, I couldn't connect to them but they showed about "half" power all the time. Again, disabling ALL these items has resolved the issue for me.
My issue is not with connections, I connect fine. Its with downloading, mostly images and videos. Text is fine. Like if I read a news article it loads with a small delay, nothing to worry about. If I watch a video all I get is the circle spinning. Facebook, wont load at all. Tumblr wont load either. The second I close my wifi, everything loads.

You might've tried this already but how about forgetting your home wifi then reconnecting and reentering your password?

Question Wifi connectivity problem - Redmi note 10 pro

Hi,
On my new redmi note 10 pro the wifi connection seems to work only in spurts. Even in an app like whatsapp if a send a message it will change from the clock to tick only after a few minutes. And it seems to be working in a batch. Suddenly all messages are sent and received then it will sleep again for some time. WhatsApp web will indicate that phone is disconnected. Mind you have have 2 high speed connections at home and all other devices including some older redmi devices work fine on them.
There is no problem when the phone is connected on the network providers data connection.
Is this a settings issue or a problem with the device
Thanks,
i have problems with wifi connectivity when the signal is low (1 bar). When I play mobile legends, HI3rd or genshin impact, my wifi connectivity turns off and switches to mobile data. I will auto-connect to wifi again after a few seconds. Even though the location of the wifi is not too far and the signal is fast.
Go to settings>Wifi>Wifi assistant>Disable all options and Your issue will fix.
In the majority cases in the majority of cases WiFi connectivity issues, they can be traced back to the cause of something in the device. The cause can be any small alteration in the settings to a massive hardware issue.
There are a few things that you could take to resolve the issue. The steps to take are listed below. Try each one at a time until you can resolve the problem.
Although it is true that the problem may be caused by some other failure, in most cases the spontaneous disconnection of the WiFi connection is caused by a bad MIUI configuration, specifically, its automatic connection to the networks with better signal . Go to Settings> WiFi> Wi-Fi Assistant.

Sometimes it appears like this.
Turning off the wifi assistant didn't work either.
The problem is solved if you only turn on wifi
i have the same problem and my sister in law as well
anybody know a solution?

Looking for ROM that can force Wifi Calling

HI all.
Long-term Pixel 4 XL user here.
I am looking for a ROM that can force wifi calling.
This feature existed in my previous phone (Note 8 Samsung),
However I cannot find it on my Pixel 4 XL.
I linve in an area where there low cellular signals but I have great 1GBPS Fibre internet.
The only thing i can do right now is put aeroplane mode on and then manually turn Wi-fi on which forces the wifi calling, this is too tedious for me and sometimes i forget to turn Aeroplane mode off and realize I have had multiple missed calls.
This is what the setting looks like on my Samsung.

really surprised no-one has an answer to this. ....
Also on a 4XL on A12. Take a look at Network&internet->SIMs->WiFi Calling->Calling preference->Call over WiFi (If Wi-Fi is unavailable, use mobile network)

I actually dont have the calling preferences on my Android 12
You should have the calling preferences menu if your sim is properly provisioned for WiFi calling
Is your sim SHOWN as being provisioned for WiFi calling in the test menu via the dialer?
*#*#4636#*#*
Under phone info you will find Volte/Video/WiFi toggles. If your sim is properly provisioned for WiFi calling by your carrier, the toggle will be in the "on" position and may or may not be greyed out. Even if this is the same SIM you used in your Samsung, if the sim is not shown as provisioned in the P4 this may be why you don't have the preferences preferences menu. BTW, this menu does not force WiFi calling, so even if you do get the menu working, you are still looking for a means to force WiFi calling.
Wifi calling works perfectly if I turn aero-plane mode on and then turn wifi back on.. That's not the problem.
My issue is Googles algorithm on when to use wifi calling sucks, even when I have low reception in cellular it is still calling through cellular and not using wifi calling.
