Which one and why

I went with Ballistic.
First of all i didn't like how the otterbox for the SGN2 looks. They make awesome cases, but sometimes they are very ugly (ie the Otterbox iPhone cases).
another great extra is the ballistic is cheaper, u can pick one up on ebay for ~25-29$.
BTW, already saved my phone once.. it fell of the table, right on it's side and survived without any evidence.

I went with the ballistic too. Ive dropped it many many times lol, and so far no damage. My brother in law has the commuter for his note and its not bad as well. On the plus side the commuter has rubber covers for the battery and headphone jack but the ballistic has those corners. I wish the ballistic had bigger corners but im satisfied with its protection. Either way I dont think you'd go wrong.
The commuter. More solid and stylish with a cleaner look.
Which for more protection?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Specifically drop protection. I know the ballistic case has those big corners but the commuter looks thicker in general

I have a Commuter case and I'm happy. I had a Defender for my previous phone and it was overkill.
Don't know much about Ballistics, but I would recommend the Commuter case. It fits the phone nicely, and feels good in the hand. I dropped my phone once and wasn't worried about it, either,

I believe that some people have used some spray on grip/rubber compound of some sort. One guy used it on a slim case of his to get proper grip, but I cant remember the name; google might say. I guess you could use the same on the commuter. Also there is always grip tape and you just cut out pieces for key areas of the back of the commuter.

Case feels perfect in my hand, and offers more of a gripping surface than the phone does without it. Further, since it isn't all notched up, the case moves easily enough into pockets as well.
For me, the case design exhibits a balanced compromise.

Loving my note 2 but I find it slippery to hold and a pain to prop up against things as it just slides away from anything you lean it up against. I know there are big rubber cases available but I was wondering if anyone has come across a rubberised replacement back to give me the added grip without the extra bulk of a case.
Any ideas to improve this lack of grip without adding a bulky case?

This isn't quite the same, but I got the nilkin case, which is very thin,
and when I put it in the case, I removed the back cover.
It's barely thicker. Maybe half a mm.

Ive had a look a the nilkin case looks ok but I think its a harder rubber almost plastic. Im after a grippy soft rubber what would be perfect is a back cover which has the same feel as the battery cover on a sky tv remote. The skinomi looks interesting

You are correct, it's pretty plasticy. It's a single layer - pretty simple case, no frills.

Chunology that case seems ok but its made from hard plastic so wont have the grip im after. Yes I think texturising the back with some sort of self adhesive non slip material is the way to go... gadget grips or similar its just a shame they dont make one that fits the back of the phone perfectly like a screen cover does.

I ordered some regular black plastidip, should arrive on monday, I'll let you know how it works.
Plastidip is overpriced in the UK for some reason though. It's about $6 a can in the US and about £16 a can in the UK :/
The Zagg/Best Skins ever, body guards clear protective skins have a rubbery feel and offers improved grip over the shiny plastic.
this case is idential to nikkin without the logo.

Yeah let me know how the plastidip works. Im interested to know if it peels off easily. Ive now bought a hybrid case very similar to the one posted above in that ebay link. Im fairly happy with it mines white hard plastic slim not bulky and it has a rubberised coating on it plus mine was only £3.90 on ebay . I found the rubber coating felt slippery when it was new but ive had it a week now and the grip seems to be improving.

I bought directly from the site of the seller.
I've been a user of this case since my last phone (HTC Evo LTE). The case did me really well on that phone and it was slim on form factor. Protector was also very good on the previous phone as I've dropped it couple times with the phone in the case. No damage were shown on the case or on the phone. Because of this, I decided that I would choose the same company again if I were to change phones.
This time around, I went with the Samsung Note 2 as an upgrade to my previous phone. The case wasn't announced when I got the phone, but soon after they decided to make the case. I bought it the second day it was announced through the owners site. Case arrived quickly and the quality is still superb. If you check this listing, there's a few photos that I posted which represented the case. When you lay the case flat with the phone inserted, it's basically the same thickness as the Evo LTE with the phone in a diztronic case. Adds very very minimal bulk which doesn't affect the usability.
The back of the case is a matte finish. This matte finish actually allows the user to grip the phone better. That's not just it, the finish also reduces all fingerprints and dust particles.
Phone cutouts are all perfect and aligned to the spot. Power button and volume buttons use a soft silicon touch. It's covered, but in no way does it affect the touch. I can still easily press those buttons and the phone would respond to my action.
Overall, great case! Price is right! Go for it!
Im pretty pleased with mine too even though I normally dont use tpu protectors. It has a really nice feel and the sides seem like they provide substantial protection. No real complaints from me. I know diztronic has a great reputation and this was my first case from them so im happy.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Im on the same boat!! I detest silicone and TPU cases as they are flimsy and stretchy, causing plenty of dusts to get trapped inside and scratch the device. But when I saw this case on Diztronic site I was very amazed so I ordered one. It arrived fairly fast despite the holiday seasons for US to Australia. Been using for 2 days and have to say, the best TPU case I've ever seen. The texture is very very nice, matte and really nice to touch and hold, raised lips to protect the screen, cover all the buttons (my favourite features), compact and thin enough but still have a decent protection from it. I'm very happy with this case, by far the best case I've got for Note 2 yet.
The only thing they should improve is to stick with matte texture all the way rather than having the raised lips/edges in glossy texture. And the seams could use some clean up.
Perhaps. I kinda like the edges with the smooth finish. Feels good when I need to stretch fingers across the whole phone.
One other plus I noticed is it seems to not get stretched easy. As I said this is my first Diztronic case so I'm sure others already know, but I've taken it on and off about 5 times and it still fits tight.

I think it's pretty firm on my end. I don't seem to loose control of it when it's in my hand.
I just want to pipe in and say I really like the Diztronic tpu case on my note 2. I used their cases on my Galaxy Nexus and was very happy. They add very little weight and size to the phone, yet I feel like my phone has pretty decent protection. My Galaxy Nexus still looks brand new, even though I dropped it a few times. I've dropped my note 2 one time and it still looks perfect.

Looking for opinions on most protective case. Defender seems like the best but the screen protector....and hearing about dust getting in between it and the screen is a little disconcerning. I used a seidio active case on my thunderbolt and loved it, dropped on concrete several times and faired very well. But after recently breaking few months ago and seidio not wanting to replace it like they used to...kind of left a bad taste in my mouth and I dont know if I want to go back to them. That's what she said. Please let me know your opinion. Thanks!

Although I don't have the note2. I have an s3 and I have the otter box defender. I couldn't get the oil slick look to go away so I just took the built in screen protector out. It just pops right out. I have my full screen protector on there anyway to its still fully protected.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Ya that's what im thinking. Just thinking... should I buy it then immediately break the case by ripping out the built in protector. It just feels weird to break something so expensive on purpose lol. Then, does the adhesive that was holding it on cause an issue or removing the protector cause the case rigidinity to be compromised?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
If you can wait 3-4 weeks the uag http://www.urbanarmorgear.com/products/black-note-ii-case
But if you need it now then go for the otter defender or commuter.
Also, if removing screen protector from defender is there still benefit(s) to using that case versus an otterbox commuter? Being that there is an included screen protector versus built in already.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Rigidity shouldn't be compromised, and from what I read people use hair dryer to heat up the edge of the screen for a glue to soften, thus doing a clean removal of the screen. Glue supposed to roll off easily when its hot.. But you have to keep in mind, Otterbox gives you 1yr warranty if something happens to the case. If something breaks or gets damaged and you need to replace it, they will ask your original case back (I called them up to verify it) and even if you going to glue the screen back - there is a chance they will see it and might use it against you. I personally didn't want to take my chance, so I'm returning my Defender back.
Ya I was worried about breaking/enhancing this case for this reason. What did you end up going with?

I have two cases for my Note 2: a Seidio Active case, and, as of this morning, an Otterbox Defender. Both have their pros and cons. The Seidio is more comfortable in the hand, and quite a bit slimmer, but the soft rubber inner case peels away from the phone too easily and all sorts of nasty scratchy stuff can get underneath it. It also has a handy little kickstand. The Defender is bloody huge, and for me at least, not as comfortable to hold. But it really does feel bombproof. The inbuilt screen protector isn't wonderful, but it works ok. Just needs an oleophobic coating.
As for which is best, I guess it depends how much you think you're going to throw your phone around

Throw? Never, unless onto the bed across the room. Its more of, late night out drinking and drop it from like 5 feet high on to concrete... that kind of scenario. Siedio for tbolt held up well for that did break the case eventually but phone still doesnt have a scratch. But yes, thank you for mentioning comfort, because if it never slips out of your hand... you never drop it. Looking for something grippy if possible, but that is second on my list to overall protection of course.

They are both grippy. The Defender is just a bit too big to hold comfortably. I guess that's the joy of better protection. Ironically, the Defender is possibly more likely to be dropped, not because it slips from your hand, but because it's likely to snag when you try to take it out of your pocket.
I'm going to stick to the Defender for now, although I will remove the screen protector. I use Liquid Armour on the screen and this pretty much negates the need for a plastic cover on the screen.

I had a commuter on my iphone, and it was dreadful. It didn't fit well, and really didn't feel like it would provide any degree of protection at all. And protection was rather important with all that glass! Binned it after a few days and ended up with a Taktik case (kickstarter thing). But I digress.
Apart from my iphone experience, I would say the Seidio case is better than the Commuter. It will give as much protection, and look and fit better.

I've got the Case-Mate Tough Case and even though it has the little bump pattern on it it's way too slippery... it's not rubbery feeling like it looks in the pictures...
And I've spent the better part of a week reading reviews and searching and can't find a good answer... So what's the best case for GRIP? Preferably it should give decent protection, not be too big (I don't want something like the huge Otterbox or Seidio Active) and have a lip on the front to protect the screen.. other than that I just want it to actually be GRIPPY!!! This phone is huge (it's awesome, but huge) and I really need some grippiness on the back so that I can one-hand it... I've looked at the Aegis, Ballistic, UAG and others but there are mixed reviews as to the actual feel of the outside. I want something that I can lay it in my hand at a slight angle and it won't just slide off... The Case-Mate really checks all the boxes except for the fact that it's just so dang slippery!!
So if you've personally got a case/used one that you find exhibits exceptional "grippability" then toss a dog a bone and hook me up..
Thanks everyone..
(and if you're in the market for a Case-Mate Tough case then I'll make ya a deal....although it's prolly not worth the shipping..lol)
Not sure but I use a Body Glove and its pretty grippy around the sides (not so on the flat back tho). I remember hearing of some adhesive kind of like Flygrip but cheaper kind of like tape/sticker which you could apply to all kinds of different things altho they made some specifically for phones and other devices to give you a better grip .
First off I'll take that case mate if you're in North America definitely not worth the shipping otherwise. Anyway I would assume any tpu case is as grippy as you're going to get but there's a protection trade-off obviously. You could try getting a flygrip or a sling grip. I have the fly on my otterbox/zl setup and it's definitely the best one handed solution I just feel super nerdy using it lol.

I don't think anything comes close to a cheap gel rubber case for sheer grippines. There are any number of brands that can be had for 4 bucks shipped and I keep one around for when I want to sit and read manga.
They suck for sliding in and out of a tight pocket though. There is a point of being too grippy.

Does that case have any kind of lip on the front so you can lay the phone on it's screen and it won't touch the surface? I couldn't tell from the pics on that site?

Have you looked at the Case-mate Pop case? This is probably my favorite case I own. It has rubber grips on both sides of the case, and on the lip in the front. I think this may be what you are looking for.

All yhe reviews on that thing say the kickstand is a POS... is it really that bad?.. I probably wouldn't use it but it would kinda suck if I broke it the 1st time I used it... what's your thoughts on it?

The best grippy case and most protective case you will find is I Face case

The kickstand is kind of hard to use but I hardly ever use it. Honestly that wasn't one of the reasons why I decided to buy the case. I had one of these cases on my BlackBerry Bold 9900 before I bought my GN2. I like that my phone feels solid in my hand, it's not too bulky, it's easy to put on/take off and it offers great protection. I already had one drop when my GN2 fell out of my jacket pocket from about three feet to asphalt and the only wrong was my case had a small scough mark. I like the case. This is just my opinion.

Yes, the case has a raised lip around the screen. The lip will keep the screen off a flat surface like a table; it is a significant lip. There are many pictures of this case in the thread where people are showing photos of their cases. Here is a youtube.com video that is pretty good.

I honestly prolly wouldn't use the kickstand that much either... but it's good to know that it's probably not as bad as some of the reviews..

Yeah, I thought about getting some of that tape stuff but somehow putting tape on a $500 phone just feels wrong.. but I may have to resort to it...lol.

I actually meant (egrips) since I had seen it recommended in another thread here
Hopefully this might be some help
I am curious to what cases people are using and recommend. I am currently uaing otterbox case I bought when I got my phone and the corners are starting to peel back a bit, so I feel like I need a new case. In my area they don't have much for good protection cases that aren't to expensive.
I'm using the poetic atmosphere case. It has a little lip that lifts the screen off a table when face down, decent grip, and full back coverage. All while being really slim. I had a problem with my first one coming apart, but poetic sent me a brand new case that was "improved". And I don't think they were lying, the new case holds tight to the phone and is staying together nicely. Plus, they are cheap on Amazon.

I've got the Cimo Grip back in frosted clear, and my wife has the amCase with bumper(because it is pink ) I like the Cimo and have heard good things about the Poetics, I will say though that the amCase one doesn't have the power cut out so you cannot use the IR blaster. Altough it is easy to cut out with an exacto knife or the like.

Which otterbox? I am using the commuter and haven't had a single problem.
I use Seidio surface cases on any phone I get. Mainly because they don't add much bulk, offer good protection and come with a belt clip. My phones always look brand new when I sell them a year or 2 later.

That looks like the defender.
This is the one I use http://www.otterbox.com/HTC-One-Com...ne,default,pd.html?start=3&cgid=htc-one-cases
I use the urban armor gear for my daily and the poetic flipbook every now and then.

Seidio Surface with kickstand. Love it
I'm using the body glove case that I got at the sprint store. Its nice and thin.
poetic atmosphere during the weekends and an otterbox commuter or defender during the work week if im out on jobs with my employees.
Just some cheap case for 3.99 from ebay, works well enough that screen does not touch when facing down and as well as the camera. IR blaster works and volumes buttons are easy to press.
I'm using the two tone original HTC case. Sexy as hell. Protects the phone nicely.

I have a commuter, and this happens to all of them, I had 3 different ones for my iPhone and the corners always look like that after a while, specially if you take the phone out of the case too often

I use the cimo s grip and ditztronic tpu , both great cases
I'm using the Incipio Dual Pro and I love it. The only thing is I got the aluminum brushed one, and the back scratches REALLY easily. Oh well.
Thanks all for the feedback. I will look into all these cases and see if any spark my liking. the corners on my case are kinda starting to bug me, I don't know why, but it does.
I just got this case about a week ago. Pretty solid so far.
