Hello,
ICS is not working for me,I had the phone updated to stock V30a rom with lg service a couple of days ago.
There i discovered the phone has some warranty left.
Now i get:
Occasional resets (i can live with them),
GSM signal loss (had that with gingerbread as well but was hoping for a fix with ics)
LOUSY batt time of under 12 hours without using wifi,gps,3g or apps. (If i dare to turn wifi on im looking at 5hours batt time)
Lg service tells me V30b is not available for the 2X and roll back to gigngerbread is not possible.
I was wondering if there are any patches around to solve this without using a custom rom,or maybe a way to underclock the cpu.
Thank you for reading this.

Check with all in one tool kit and a custom ROM...but be aware that you might not have the warranty....
But for your information......I went away to a custom ROM in three months after I bought this device.....we have better warranty here than lg......lol

Try to set Wifi to never
Hi,
I have had the same 12h battery issue and tried out many things. E.g. flashing the Asian V30B did not help.
As I found out that only the too high power consumption by Wifi drains the battery that much, I found an easy workaround I can accept. You might want to give it a try:
1. Get into settings menu
2. Click Wifi
3. Click the most left of the 4 soft buttons to get in the context menu
4. Select never
Now Wifi every time will go off whenever the screen gets off. Battery lasts for 2.5 days in my case.
Good luck
Jo
Setting wifi to never worked like a charm.
I dont get it as wifi was turned off anyway but the batt will easily last a day now
From what im reading there are some pretty good cooked roms around but they
dont support hdmi out or radio.I really like both these features and i would hate to
loose them.
If there was a rom with a working hdmi i would propably try it.

I've seen threads with this issue or that issue, but no single thread yet dedicated to issues that have cropped up for HTC Vivid users since the ICS OTA update.
I run stock-- No root, no custom rom, just stock the way it came from AT&T.
The phone has been wonderful. Battery standby time was phenomenal (on a full charge, I could expect to take my phone to work around 6:30 am, and see a minimum 60% to 75% left when I got home around 5:30 pm). I never experienced random reboots, crashes, etc.
Then I updated OTA to the new ICS using standard AT&T procedure-- This would be the official release, downloaded and installed last week.
Now, if I reboot the phone, I have to wait while it installs updates it already had when I installed ICS. This is a minor incovenience, but annoying.
I also see noticeably less standby time. I'm lucky now to have 50% left when I get home from work.
Most alarming, though, is the nightly crash on the charger. My dad is in and out of the hospital with heart issues, so turning off my phone to charge it isn't really an option. Every night since I updated, my phone random reboots on the charger (last night it did it twice).
So now I'm seriously wondering:
(1) Is anyone else having these new issues since updating to the official ICS release?
(2) Is there some way I can "downgrade" to the more stable version my phone had before (the extra features and tweaks aren't worth the tradeoff for stability and standby time)?
Thanks to any and all who take the time to consider this post and reply accordingly.
Why not try downloading the official RUU since you are still locked,
http://www.htc.com/us/support/vivid-att/downloads/ and install it
sounds like something scewed up when you uploded the OTA update via phone.
A little more detail...
I think it's important to note that these random reboots I've been getting since upgrading to ICS are only partially random.
They only happen when the phone is on the charger and "on." I recall a "charge death" issue with my old Samsung Captivate that perhaps I'm experiencing now with the upgraded HTC Vivid?
I know the obvious workaround is to charge it before going to bed, take it off the charger, then top it off the following morning. Perhaps I'll try that before doing the upgrade over again using the RUU. It's perplexing due to when it happens-- I know the phone doesn't require a full 3.5 hours to charge from, say, 35%, so it's some sort of charger keep-alive that must be forcing the reboot.
I'm still curious, though, to learn if anyone else is having these exact same issues after upgrade.
Thanks, Pumpiron579, for your suggestion! I've just downloaded the RUU and have it ready when I decide to try the update again.
I've upgraded to the latest ICS from AT&T and am not experiencing any of the reboot issues that you're speaking of. I put my Vivid on a charging dock and it goes into doc mode and is that way when I wake up in the morning. I even have it trip an alarm at 7AM. If it's rebooting overnight, I'm not aware of it. In GB there was a screen that told you the up time and sleep time. I can't find it on ICS otherwise I could confirm whether or not it is rebooting overnight.
As for battery life, it doesn't appear to be any worse than GB for me and for today, It's been on the battery over 1.5 hrs and still at 100% battery.

Select the Up time counter for more details
Thanks for that, homeslice, but I don't see overall up time. With GB, there was some counter that could show the hundreds of hours that it has been up since the last reboot.

I've never paid too much attention to this...but when you go in and click on the battery time underneath the battery level, there's another uptime below the graph that i figured was total uptime?
I updated with the RUU and have had no problems with my phone what so ever, I have had no reboots when chargeing and the battery life is about the same for my phone. Also my phone is stock with bootloader locked.
My battery life seems to be about the same. However, I am getting a better LTE signal - 3 bars vs 1-2 bars before the upgrade.
The one thing that I've found to be an irritation is that before the upgrade, any photos attached to emails were automatically saved in a folder accessible by the Gallery. After the upgrade, they are saved in the Downloads; and that folder is not accessible from the Gallery. I have to use a file manager program like Astro to manually move the photo file to one of the Gallery accessible folders.
If there's a way to fix this, I would be all ears.
Battery life sucks after ICS upgrade
after I upgraded to ICS my batter life sucks, it used to come for a day, now its reaching 15% before evening.
Is this a known issue, is there a way to get a better battery life
Thanks

As far as I can tell you get the android is upgrading/optimizing every time dalvik cache is cleared..which from what I can tell happens on every reboot with a Rom that's not deodexed..like the stock Roms. Get on a Rom that's been deodexed and this won't happen. Otherwise enjoy the feature lol

fix battery issues
Sorry to hear about the random reboots, and I hope a solution comes around. I personally have found no reboot issues at all. There is a problem with using Bluetooth hands free though, you can't press the call button on the device to make a voice call because Android removed the voice dialer so now you just hear a beep.
In regards to your battery, install Advanced Task Killer from the market. In the settings, set up the recommended kill list, the aggressiveness, and activate auto kill. I've been using it for a while and i can go all day with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Pandora, and other apps. After 10+ hours at work i get home with 35-40% battery still. Hope this helps. It also has a widget you can out on a homescreen so you can simply click and it kills what you set up already.
I used to have some random reboots in GB, turned to be an app or a widget that caused the problem. I did then a wipe amd installed minimal apps that I needed and didn't have the problem anymore. Then I started to install other apps one by one monitoring which one might be the problem, but I couldn't replicate it nomore. It was in the same time I experienced multiple (if not all of them) launchers and widgets so I don't even remember what I really had on it. This also might be for battery life too. Now I only use sense and the stock widgets and adw ex once in a while, I have >180 apps installed and no reboots and also battery life is very good.

Twice while streaming pandora over bluetooth I've had the phone just die. My music shuts off, screen is off, phones not responding, have to pull the battery. Also I've had issues with music skipping on bluetooth. Also third party apps won't show contact pictures that rely on Facebook. Worked fine before the
Update. Im considering wiping it and reinstalling everything.

So are we able to go back to the Original Stock/Shipped Rom if we don't like this update?
I saw some things I liked about it in the recent reviews, but others that I didn't.
hi all..
2 weeks ago I finally bought my very first android based HH, GNOTE...currently I'm running on ICS LPF Taiwan unroot, and very love it. one of my concern on this ICS, is the battery drain so much, considering it just sit on my pocket.
i have CPU Spy and BBS Installed, and found that it just Deep Sleep 48% and 200MHz 37 %. Kernel Wakelock is "multipdp" 25% Power Manager Services 21,2% and secril_fd-interface 19.25.
could you please tell me what causing this battery drain so much..?
The best thing that you could do is do a Factory Reset, but with all the bricking problems it's highly discouraged. I don't recognise the processes, but you should make sure that you deleted all the apps you never use, since one of then could be causing the problems you have.

After upgrading to German ICS, also had problems with wakelocks (phone never sleeped)
Done this (posted on XDA somewhere) and it worked:
Turn Flight Mode ON
Turn Off the Phone
Take out the battery for 30 secs
Plug battery back
Turn on the phone
Wait until all is loaded and turn off Flight Mode.
Also, always disconnect from the charger with screen ON and unlocked.
After using this 2 metods, never had a wakelock again (multipdp etc)

thanks a lot for both of you....
will try these steps.....and will comeback with the result....

thanks for your answer for my question...
regarding that did you mean that i have to stop receiving email on my Galaxy Note..?? for me that's really important since i bought my note to support my daily job...
is it the main cause..? if yes, i think i should buy another battery as a way out.
I also have encountered the same problem with my galaxy note after the stock ics update in India.
I have checked out the earlier posts on the same issue..
Some users had the problems of deep sleep and some others had other problems..bt as far i have been able to understand this problem...it is associated with those apps which we often use..for eg i had been using apex launcher for so long...and it used to suck my phones battery like hell also coz of the widgets and the other things that it use.
So what i did was a simple factory reset and a data wipe and didn't install the apex launcher again.
I let my phones battery drain completely and charged it till 100% and simply rebooted it and removed the battery too. And its working good now.
Those things which suckedy battery included android system and display...i could do any thing about display but i force stopped may process of android system and results are good.
One more reason for battery drain could be that when we go backs from the apps on stock ics on galaxy note..the apps do not get closed comletely like stock web browser which works in the background too..so might be other reason for so.
Don not install those apps which u dont use often coz they might work in background add unnecessorily suck ur bettery.
Try the battery pull off trick it really works for majority of users.
Force close those apps and processes which u feel unnecessory.
Those whose claim ics doesnt work smooth on their note they pls go the develpers option in settings and enable the force GPU rendering option then it will work smooth like anything...
One more thing which u may already know about galaxy note ics is that now it runs all the tablet apps on ur note! Thats pretty amazing coz u need not root it or do anything...for me it worked with the apps like...adobe idea, adobe photoshop touch and all other adobe apps and some other tablet apps..download these apps directly from 4shared..so cheers!!!
Those who are not happy with their battery pls try factory reset and battery pull off trick...it worked for me and it might work for u too my friend...
if you are entering deep sleep at all then you aren't being affected by the bug where you have to make sure your screen is on and unlocked before pulling it off the charger.
i suffered from this bug after updating to ics lpy, but since following the guide above (flight mode, power down etc.) i've had no issues.
let your phone completely discharge, then turn it back ona dn make sure it turns off again. then fully charge it. i found this increased the accuracy of the battery a little, when i did it it dropped from 10% to 1% in around 20 mins, then i was able to use the phone for almost half an hour on 1% so obviously my battery stats weren't quite right.
if you've done a factory reset, and you're sure the phone is entering deep sleep ok, just go through a couple of complete charge/discharge cycles and see if that improves things

Analyzing is tought on android.
Printscreens of kernel wakelock and partial are better.
Partial is mostly what exactly is keeping awake
Try some of the suggestions from the numerious threads, state them here whicj didnt work and describe usage a little more detail, that way we arent shooting in the dark

i still got this issue regarding multipdp and secril_fd_interface....maybe it caused by unstable network or the fast dormancy stuff...
so i went to nearest samsung center and buy a spare battery... now i have no concern about this...but still keep on eye with l2_hsic...the flight mode on and restart will solve this issue..

I was having battery drain issues myself. Got tired of checking CPU Spy and BBS etc. Worried about bricking and wiping so I...
I rooted the phone.
Installed SpeedMod Kernel 3-3 via mobile odin that didnt really solve it.
I installed Abyss kernel. Wiped everything because its supposed to be a safe wipe kernel.
Then installed Criskelo rom
Then installed SpeedMod Kernel 3-3 again and everything was great with battery life.
You have to reinstall apps and setup your phone basically but its well worth it in my opinion. Now my only battery drain is me always messing with my phone.

@gayanaji - I use Criskelo's ROM and all the Samsung apps work fine. No probs here. Many of the custom ROMS are based on other Kernels that the Samsung apps do not work with. I am a bit new to this but I believe that is correct. Just make sure to use a Samsung app compatible Kernel if you decide to do it. Also another piece of advice before doing anything read a bunch to make sure you fully understand everything with regards to rooting, flashing custom ROMS etc.
I'm tired of that Datatracker-FD (or fast dormancy) problem.
All LG based roms, stock or cooked, have it. No way to leave the 3G data on, it will continuosly wake up while sleeping.
With better battery stats I can see that it is variable...sometimes betweeen 5 minutes...30 minutes but mostly of time it happens EVERY minute!
Without any app installed, and all google Sync/Backup/Gtalk disabled.
I tested a lot of GB roms (stock v20b/g/n/o/q, Zeus, Marvel, and more).
It happens also in Froyo, and Nova rom.
Of course if I leave it without internet and in 2G mode, it will last a lot more...but...what is a smartphone for, without internet? SMS and few calls?
The only ROMS which doesn't have it are the CM based.
So now I'm fed up of this situation: LG doesn't fix anything, and CM is still pretty unstable. I have to live with short battery live or having random hardlocks.
I've been a year with the OB, first 8-9 months all went ok, as I didn't have internet.
But 3 months ago I changed my mobile plan to have internet, and the hell began.
With luck it will last 18 hours, without even touching the phone.
The funniest is that my girlfriend has a Nokia 500, and with internet, lots of apps, Wifi ON, GPS ON, "whatsapping" a lot... it lasts more than 2 days!
LG! sucks! I don't care if they fix it now. I will never be buying that crap again, ever!
Anyone knows a stock based rom, that can live with 3G data ON and without that bug? Or how to fix it?
I searched a lot in forums, tried lots of things, but no one will fix it.
Sorry for the partial off-topic, but I had to say it!
fast dormancy was actually created to help you save battery... someone posted an article about that somewhere here.... yeah it shows 'awake' but if you monitor the battery line if (if its caused by FD alone) it hardly goes down.... i had very bad FD wakelocks and battery drain previously.... but luckily somewhere along the way Huexx implemented the FD off and that helped my situation
but now i just installed Huexx's Zeus 6.27 (FD on) and i see that the FD is not really causing drain (if its the FD alone) infact it sorta bounces back up after a while of sleep.... i dont think Huexx changed anything rgd the FD issue so that leads me to think that it was an app that caused my battery drain (which I thought was FD)
and stock roms i dont think there is anything that can be done abt fd (i think it started only on GB) but like i said you can try installing Zeus and turning the FD off and see if that helps
oh and check your google talk..... change the auto log in in it's settings..... that setting is evilllllllllllll
Has anyone had any issues with the 'phone radio' of the 4x. I installed 'gsam battery monitor' after suspecting battery drainage and can confirm 'phone radio' is taking up 60% from the go (even in standby). I've done the research and understand the function but the issue is happening with full five bars of reception, which results in me getting only about 2-3 hours of talk time on a full charge. I have tried it on stock ICS and JB. I've reverted back to ICS. Issue exists on both.
Has anyone any idea or experienced anything similair. I'm not rooted everything is stock. Tried changing the gsm radio from the 4x hidden menu to cmda only etc etc.....
Hi,
I've my sent back razr i back for repair for the second time because on three three occasions about two weeks each apart the phone has got really hot and the battery drained in 3 to 5 hours. The last time the phone was sent back this fault had happened twice and the repair found nothing wrong and they said they re-installed the firmware (actually I think more than likely a factory reset).
I've been told that for this time for the latest repair will be either a firmware re-install or they may replace the phone.
My question is does your razr i have this occasion bout of high battery use?,
I ask because I do like the phone and would probably consider buying another as I'm not sure I want a replacement make.
On all three occasions the battery use did not show anything out of normal, was screen was around 70-80%, android 12-15%
regards
Ken
After I updated my RAZR i to 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, The battery life went from 9-10 hours on a phone heavy day to 3-3:30 hours on a not-so-heavy day. I later found that the problem was I had Nova, brightness and bluetooth on and full power so I went to stock home, used auto-brightness and disabled bluetooth (how it was enabled was weird seeing as I never use it) and I want to 8-9 hours on a phone-heavy day. Not back to normal but still good.

You were probaly just really unlucky getting a broken device with factory faults
