Hi guys, finally decided to put down my sensation and move onto the Galaxy S III. I'll miss it =[
So I've bought a UK Galaxy S III I9305 from T-Mobile.
I've managed to root and that and it everything was working fine so I thought I'd flash some ROMs and see what one I like. I flashed two of them (Pandoriam and rXTREME). They worked fine except mobile data would not work on either of them. I followed some instructions in the thread which said to turn on GSM only, restart then switch back to WCDMA. But it still wouldn't work. I flashed different radios as well (or modems as they're called for samsungs) and that didn't help either.
I've just flashed a stock 3.1.2 EE firmware and the device is back to complete functionality and the 3G came on immediately. I also noticed when I booted the phone the first thing that popped up was a box asking if I wanted to enable data connections; this never happened on the custom ROMs. I figured it must be me or my device since it didn't work on both ROMs, hence my posting here instead of their threads. Am I doing something wrong here?
Any help appreciated. Cheers.
Did you check the apn settings? When I flashed those roms I had to re enter the settings again

Ah this wasn't suggested. If you can be bothered could you possibly outline what I need to do. I know how to get to APN settings, do I just note down what they are now on a stock ROM and set them the same way on a custom ROM?
Thanks.

I flashed the slim ICS rom on my captivate that had 2.3.5 gingerbread stock. Everything worked fine except that I couldn't make phone calls or text. Pretty much i couldn't connect to a service provider.
When I looked at the settings menu, and tried to search for mobile networks it said "error cannot find networks".
Anyone else having this issue and do you know how to resolve this?

I think this might be it. In one of the threads it says that it does not flash a new modem. My guess is that it needs to be i9000. I came from another ICS ROM and have had no problems.
Edit: The developer said that his essential pack does include a modem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23025435&postcount=60)
i got a lg thrill phone that was rooted and when i put my sim in it doesn't show as having one. I then proceed to go to apn and checking settings and it say reorginizing initial settings and kicks me out. I tried doing the reset to stock per instructions in xda and the program to reset kdz don't show phone as hooked up. Everything works on phone except mobile network. could anyone let me know what i should do next. Thanks.
Did you do anything except root?

Well the guy I got it from rooted loaded a custom ROM.he didn't back up the original. Now when you go into mobile network settings then network mode nothing is set. Andcan't get into access point names to set for ATT.

Can you get into clockwork on it? May be an incompatible rom.
Incompatible with baseband.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda premium
I got in there and have tried different roms. But the baseband "L6260_modem_SIC_01.1042.00" That doesn't seem right and could that be the problem?
Flash an LG thrill gingerbread rom. There are numerous links here. Do that then go to settings-wireless networks-mobile neteorks-apn settings. Then hit the menu button and click restore defaults.

That's the stock GB baseband.

And what do you mean it don't show phone as hooked up ... Are you putting it in download mode ? And did you make sure that you uninstalled the drivers from the computer restarted the computer installed the drivers then plugged the phone in cause if you used dark lestats return to stock and didnt follow it exactly it won't work
Sent from my Inspire 4g running blackOUT XL 2.0 ICS W/ sense 3.6
I had to fix mine. I flashed LG thrill stock rom rooted zip. You won't have any signal, then use the LG thrill update tool and update phone. Then use the dark lestats link to megatron root and one click recovery tool. Then flash a compatible rom like acidhazard or whatever u like. This should work. Let us know when you try this and we can go from there.
If you can't move from comp to phone maybe a friend could let you dl to their phone sim then put that sim into your phone. All that fun stuffs

Ok I did like you said returned to stock flashed a kdz file it took and works but only on edge. I a kdz file that has a v10 I think. Now I noticed another problem and I don't know if it is a hardware issue. But no that I can't get a mobile signal it won't read the sd card.
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
Not sure about the sd problem. So now that you went back to stock google the lg update tool. Or you can get ti from acidhazardrom.com. update your phone with it. It will be on android 2.3.5. You will have the same baseband, v20p.

Hi guys, installed the CM9 ROM yesterday, everything seemed to go well. I have installed the google apps, installed all my other apps from the store, wifi working well. However simply can't get any mobile reception.
I have tried searching everywhere trying to find out which modem to install. I have already tried about 4 or 5 from the list, just to see if it works, but nothing is working so far.
I am really hoping that someone has some info on this.
Any help greatly appreciated.
it is not so much of the country as the network?
Optus based or Telstra based, or Vodafone/3 based?

I do not edit any modem, they are already modded, some great people here already did it for us. Since this post it kind of old, I do not remember who did it, but you can search in the thread.
Try going in to mobile network setting and registering in tmobile network.

Which Att Rom you using and what modem you are using. I have i717 and I tried several rom's and modem's but still cannot find a good match.
If I load Tmo rom's, I can't even install them as the installation gets aborted before mine is i717 device which is att but I thought i717 and T879 same.
Anyways please let us know what's your combination so I can try it out too. By the way I am trying to use i717 with Wind Mobile in Canada which is same as TMO.
Purchased a rooted (to Jelly Bean) Samsung 8.9 LTE tab originally on ATT network. Previous owner ran it on T-Mobile. It wont recognize my ATT simcard. Simcard works fine in other 8.9 tablet non rooted.
I was advised by previous owner to:
Re Flash Rom
Re install Kernal
Re install modem
I am brand new to rooting anything. I think I have done this but no results.
Can anyone assist me?
It should not matter if its rooted. I have s rooted i957 and att works fine. Have you checked the apn (access point name)? Settings, wireless, more, mobile networks. The apn needs to be configured for att. Do you know what radio(modem) you're currently on?

That's your problem. You have a couple of choices. You can return the tab to stock att ics or you can keep rooted jb and flash a new radio. I.don't know your level of experience so forgive me if this is a stupid question, but do you know how to use odin or a custom recovery?

Not experienced with hacking/rooting android but am tech oriented person in all other areas. I know enough to throw the tab into the alternate boot mode (maybe you are calling recovery).
If you would be so kind to describe to me one time, I think I can get it.
my choice would be to not revert back to stock ATT, keep the rooted set up. Flash a new Radio.
BTW- I have tried "flashing" something with ATT and word MODEM in file name at root directory, but upon reboot still dont see APN info.
thanks in advance for your patience helping.

No problem helping you. We've all been there before. The alternate boot is recovery you probably have clockwork mod or twrp. I've worked with both. Finding a radio specifically for the i957 is a problem but the radios for the i727 work with no problem. It's what I have on my tab.
Download onto your tab http://d-h.st/NWW. This is the latest jb radio for the i727. You will flash this with your recovery. In the recovery there are options to wipe/format different things. You don't need to do any of those. Just flash/install the radio.
It should set up the apn's but if we have to we can manual set them up.

NO APN info populated after re boot.
btw - upon reboot I see the following briefly "Super User has stopped". This is not to do with the file you had me flash. Its been coming up since I tried to flash the super user file I saw in root when I was blindly troubleshooting on my own.

Do you have a baseband? It should be ucmc1. If this radio doesn't work there is one other that add a radio interface layer which you may need. The super user error can be corrected but we'll get to that. The other radio is http://d-h.st/pcr but let me know of you have s baseband first.
