After 20 years, I finally will be visiting my place of birth again, Hongkong.
I am planning a two day trip somewhere in july, and I'd like to buy some stuff for the HD2, but I'm not familiar in HK.
I did some googling about places to shop for electronics, and came accros something like 'golden computer arcade' and 'sham shui po'. And Shenzen, is that still hongkong or is it mainland china and do i need other visa for it?
There are a few things I'd like to look out for, and if someone who lives in HK can point me out where the buy such stuff, I'd be happy.
1
32Gb microSD. These baby's are available already, but too expensive right now. Do they sell these baby's in HK? And what is their average price? It doesn't needs to be Sandisk per se, any other brand will do. Also, class doesn't matter either, it's just about the storage. And a little bit of quality of course.
2
A decent headset with in ear phones, with music control and maybe some other functions like volume rocker etc. Can be wired or BT. I listen to music occasionaly so I don't need the high end stuff.
3
Does something exists like a bluetooth memorystick/device? for example, some 16gb flash drive, running on a penlite (or two) and have bluetooth that supports for file transfers? Imagine a small size bt memorystick that you can easily cary in your pockets.

I'd like to buy a tablet device, but don't want an iPad (too expensive, too locked down, and too Apple) But a KIRF running android or so. Something like this:
http://www.clonedinchina.com/2010/0...clone-packs-1ghz-arm-cortex-a8-processor.html
or this:
www.clonedinchina.com/2010/04/epad-looks-like-a-bigger-iphone-priced-at-394.html
There are a lot of KIRFS and i don't care how they look like. Just need a decent tablet with updated OS and some horsepower on the cheap.
Usage at home, need web browsing, media player, some basic games and voip support.
Any suggestions from someone who lives in HK?

Spare parts for HD2, like lcd screen, digitizer, housing etc. Just in case that the best wm6.5 ever made suddenly dies on me.
I bought some adina batteries from ebay, shipped from hongkong, 3 euro's a piece and it still works fine for me.
I know that there are a lot of stuff out there that I actually have to check out myself, but since I will be just two days in HK, I think í'll be too short on time to find shops that offer pretty reliable items. I know that almost everything is a counterfeit, but I don't care about it to much, as long as it works.
I will be editing this post more often the following days, because I want to buy my HD2 some little presents .
Anyone who has a suggestion, please let me know.
Thanks guys.
i am not sure what it is called, but where the markets are in kowloon, the streets running parallel to that should have what you want. one street is electronics, the next is sporting goods and so on. i have never seen so many phone stores in my life. there are also electronic stores spread all over the place in kowloon ranging from the market type shops (ps3 games etc)to large retail types that have everything (kind of like harvey norman) sorry i cant help with names as it has been a few years since i was there, but it is electronics heaven over there. would love to go back also.

I might be able to bring something back, depending the item ofcourse. I don't know if i'll be able to contact you when I'm in HK, it's just a two day trip and data roaming may be mighty expensive. That's why I'm depending on people who live in HK and know the stuff we just might need for the HD2 and tell us what is available.
If you come back with some ideas where to buy stuff and how much it cost it would be nice. I have friends, that travel to HK very often. But they are young women with no sense for tech, and they also will not be able to check hundred stores for me. But I would have any idea, how expensive is for example HD2 in HK I can send them to buy it for me

Hi. i go to HK at least once a year (my wife is from HK) and i advise you not to go to the shops in TST/kowloon as they will rip you off!!!!!.....go to mong kok there is a great shopping centre there that is just for mobile phones its great! and is very big (three floors i think)...i can get an exact address for you from the wifes brother as he still lives in HK. i also know the "golden computer arcade" but its small compared to the one im talking about and sham shui po is more for computer components etc. the mobile phone centre i mentioned sells all sorts of spares and accessories for phones but i was there about 5 months ago and because the hd2 was only just released the was no spare parts available but im sure by now there will be many!!!!! as you asked shenzen is in mainland china (the town on the HK - China border) you will need a visa if youve got a european or us passport...i think i paid 800hk$..But that was for a multi entry 3 month visa so you could probably get a cheaper single entry visa.....
I hope this answers your questions.....if you want the address for the phone shopping centre...just reply to me and i will get it fot you!

Thanx for the info. I do believe mongkok is a better place to bargain about the price. But i also think that Shenzen is even better considering price ranges, that's what i've read on the web.
http://www.hkstreet.com/story0101j.htm
The above article says that you can pay with HK Dollars in Shenzhen. Does this still aply, because another article says it's not. And none of those articles mentions when they were there.
I've really set my mind on buying a tablet. Any recommandations?

are there many differences between mongkok and shenzhen?
sweet i am coming to hong kong at the end of June for a week and would want to buy an HD2. However I need the Telstra T9193 version. Would Mongkok (and/or) Shenzhen sell such a product?
Don't go to Shenzhen. Shenzhen is in mainland China and not in HK although it's not very far and there they sell mostly China-made copied/look-alike phones/gadgets not the real deal unless u think those fakes are fun.
Mongkok is a good place to go and you can also find good stuff & accessories in the Wanchai Computer Mall on the HK Island side (on Henessary Road right next to the Wanchai MTR station and the Southorn sportsground).

I like to look and feel what copies and other counterfeits are all about.
Since i need a simple MID, running android, to read books, browse internet and watch movies, i thought, it does not matter much what brand it is.
What I like to know is, is it true that SEG has more stuff that the shops around mongkok?
Lastly, the most stupid question of the world:
Can i buy buy parts to assemble my own tablet? Or even assemble my own HD3 with 5" capacitive display and running Tegra 2? Just out of curiousity
Do they sell for example complete SBC with a variety kind of chips, hook up an LCD of your choice and let them flash any OS onto it?
You going there for two days?? or did i missed anything?

I've rescheduled my flight, now I'm going three days. yayh... I will be there from july 15 till july 17. I'm planning to stay somewhere near mongkok or nathan road, so when i jump out of bed in the morning, i'll rush out of the hotel, have some pork dumplings and go shopping.
Still, I want to go to shenzhen. Can somebody tell me if I can pay with HKD in Shenzhen?
How unfortunate.
In my op is wrote that I would get some spare parts for the HD2, if it would die on me one day. Well, it just happened to be today.
My daughter dropped it and the screen is broken.
The upper left part of the screen is pitch black, while the rest remains visible and functional. Even multi touch still works.
So I've dissasmbled the whole thing and even placed the HD2 in a preheated oven of 50 degrees, let it there for 10 minutes (as a punishement) and could easily remove the digitizer from it. But is seems the LCD has cracked too, so I'm off to buy a complete new lcd with digitizer. Anyone in HK that can tell me where to get these in HK? Ofcourse, it needs to fit, unlike some other parts I once bought for the n95, it didn't fit at all. Ofcourse, I will bring my HD2 with me, maybe they can fix it for me there on the cheap. I've already disassembled the whole freak.
I'm not going to buy a replacement HD2 since the HD3 will be out within 6 months or so.
So, HK guys, if you have some time, check it out for me, okay?
If you happen to pass by a shop, check it out for me, will ya?
Thanx in advance.
FYI I bought a HD2 in sham shui po last month near the golden computer centre for HKD4590.
People please help me as I cant find any useful info via google:
Friend is living in China and wants to send me 3 mobile phones via China post, into Serbia.
We heard that Lithium batteries are now banned from shipping. He didnt find the time to go and check for himself as he is rather busy and we dont want to order before we are sure that it could be sent.
I searched some forums that deal with that issue and here is what I found
September 20, 2013 - along with Hong Kong post that already had Li-iOn banned, China post also banned Li-ion in shipping packages.
Several months after that, it was changed back to "one battery per one device" with connectors blocked, and single battery units without device cant send. < this is unconfirmed as it is only a random internet forum info without links.
Is it possible to send from China, via China post, a phone with the whole package (phone + accessories) without any problems ?
I've run into this as well when ordering tech from China.
They're saying it's because of tightened safety regulations, but we all know deep down they're just doing this because the big companies have started complaining that people are buying their devices for 90% less in China...
Because even Li-Ion batteries in a full fireproof container aren't getting through. So there goes the "It's a response to the batteries-started fire that downed a 747" excuse out the window... My batteries are more fireproof than their plane, but nope..
I've had 9 ordered phones with fixed and removable batteries refused by China Post.
I buy from fasttech at least once a month. If it's a battery then it needs to ship via Malaysia Post. Not sure how you can get it there, but that's how they do it.
is a big problem.
check with aliexpress vendors, as they send!

Hello,
I'm looking for something like this to charge my spare battery, but I have few options since I'm outside USA. I've seen plenty of good options at amazon, but none which can be shipped to my country, and I don't trust "unbranded"/generic products related to battery because it can kill the battery life or, worst scenario, leak or explode.
My options are limited to ebay, DX or aliexpress (or any shop with cheap international shipping), can someone recomend me something (trustable) about U$10-U$15?
There are too many options but you are living outside United States. One thing you can do is go to amazon.com and find products......Of course you will have to do some research but you will find it....

LG has a battery charger but I don't believe they're selling it separately. I got it on pre-order and I will not sell it to you
Try something like that There's 3 different models on that page.
This store sales LG original parts: http://www.spareslg.com
Original battery is 18,11€ plus taxes, try email tham and ask for the charger.
that's an interesting question... so you have a spare battery for your phone? Why not just get a power bank, or something like that? THose must be more readily available than what you're looking for.
where can i purchase online the phone china version no problem.
Yeah, couldn't find it on aliexpress.
Giztop.com has it listed
You will need to wait 3 weeks or 1 month or even more. The stock is limited they are currently locally selling the phones in batches every 4-7days and every time it's sold out.
Is Giztop even legit? I feel the list thing as in stock but ship it 1 month later. Also it's at an inflated cost right now being $100 more, I would wait a month
I've bought a phone from them before and purchased this from them. I'll see when it ships and arrives.
It looks like Alibaba is selling them. https://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=asus+rog+phone+2

Hi,
I received it at my door 4 days after them getting the first stock (they use DHL Express). Usually full processing, shipping and getting through customs takes max 5 days.
I did of course get to pay customs tax, around 28 EUR (+-30 USD), I live in Barcelona.
It arrived in perfect condition and included a simple charging adapter.

is it reliable? the only chinese I buy from is Aliexpress, and sometimes the vendors are mean/tricky. i found this one:
https://item.jd.com/100006808184.html
But i m relying on google translate to understand the page... I m a bit worried about risk of not being able to communicate with the seller or so if anything happens... and there is no shipping cost?
Also i was reading the comments on the phone on JD and soo many complaints about defects in screens. it seems they are suffering from quality check ?
which makes me worried as Asus won't support tencent out of China...
And I tried to create an account and it requests to use phone number. I added my phone number but not receiving sms with the code. I guess they have the international code to my country wrong.
Thank you
It's now sub 1200 Euros in Germany, if you look around a bit. Nearing 1100 in a few places.
Price has cratered harder and faster than any phone in living memory.
Samsung must be pumping these out of the factory pretty quickly, and not intending for new models to take as long as Fold 1 to Fold 2.
I can see this going below 1000 around Black Friday, and definitely by the New Year. If it's not already replaced by the end of Q1 '21, I'd imagine the phone might see significant development and community involvement, below 1k.
You're insane.
Sent from my SM-F916U1 using Tapatalk
Really, care to explain why? Lowest retail price has dropped over 700 Euros in less than 2 months.
Samsung are well known for front-loading pricing, and quickly tapering it to distributors and wholesalers, but it's never been quite like this. The device is clearly intended to sell in volume, and not be the flagship for anything like as long as the Fold 1.
Re: development, plenty of 800-1200 Euro devices see lots of development.

In the next two days I am going to buy a brand new in box Z Fold2 for €1.000 or less in Germany.
Not from a shop (several are offering them for €1.150 already) granted, but in Germany a lot of Z Fold2 have been included in a subscription renewal package where people just keep their current phone and monetize the Z Fold2.
I see the prices going down almost daily. It's a simple matter of supply and demand.
Check out https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/
The same thing happened with previous Samsung flagships.
LG devices also depreciate very quickly, but that is because noboby wants them and LG has to lower the RRP to sell them.

I know it's probably a foreign concept, but supply chains and retail channels are relatively competitive in Europe .. particularly Germany.
Probably seems unreal to you when informal price fixing in a hugely non-competitive market rules in the US ... and you just got a Verizon Fold 2 for $$$$$$$$$$, with no hope of waiting for discounts.
Why do you think anyone with a clue in the US buys from European retailers? Price including tax in Europe (which you don't pay) is usually much cheaper than price excluding tax at US retailers, save for Apple. That's what no competition does.
And now you're mad and refuse to believe anything.

Those are pretty much all either used or branded / locked to a network.
Show me a link to a commercial seller who sells sim free new sealed box Fold2 including full 2 year official Samsung warranty ... if you can't then just delete this thread
Not true, as I have explained most of them are new in wrapped box with full Samsung European warranty.
And as far as I know no German provider sells these branded and/or SIMlocked.

Lol.
Are you really not able to use price comparison sites or enter search terms and use filters on Ebay?
Rhetorical question. Evidently not.

I don't think any contract phones have been branded / locked for 5-6 years in DE ... and he appears to be implying these are secondhand contract phones. I'm not even sure heavily subsidised pay as you go phones are branded anymore.
Lowest retail price for sealed NIB Fold 2 in DE is 1149.99 today. It has been lower. Trend is still downwards quickly though.
I bought one of these z fold 2 of Germany.
1215€ and came sealed... I activated Samsung care+
I dont know the reason of the low prize of those phones, but are real and legal.

I bought this Fold 2 for one month ago too in Germany ebay kleinanzeigen 1350 Euro) . some people buy buissness phone cards with a fold 2 and they sell the fold 2 and use the phone card.
Now it is sometimes a little bit cheaper but ok .... I use it for over a month now and I love this phone ! So great stuff Samsung did here ...
You can buy these used for around $1400 US off of Ebay (which is around 1250 Euro, which is what I see it for on the German eBay site). Hoping for a slight bit more of a price drop from Black Friday, but I noticed that Samsung is still selling it for its original price, and they've dropped the price of trade ins by around $200.
I don't know why anyone would have paid full price in the US as it was on sale the opening day at every possible outlet and you would have had to literally give them more money than they were asking for the device in order to pay MSRP; I paid 1600 directly from Samsung's site on pre-order for the unlocked variant and others did better. Day one the latest greatest is always going to be more expensive than it will be just a short time later; you all know that, I'm not telling you something you didn't know. You do need to put it on a level playing field though, you can't compare the MSRP here to the actual price somewhere else at a different time, you have to compare actual price at the same specific time in order to get a valid comparison.

I'm looking to buy it again, and I'm not seeing all these great deals. Samsung's site is $1999, unless you trade in a device. The deals on eBay are ok for a used device, but not great. Amazon has some refurbs for $300 off, which is ok, but again, it's a refurb, to which they only promise that you won't notice a problem "holding it at arm's length". I haven't seen any sign of a new unit coming down in price from $2k.

Be very wary of purchasing a phone tied to a network contract.
These phones may get blacklisted a few months down the line if the original owner doesn't pay the bill, or if they have insurance and claim a month or two later that it has been lost or stolen.
... I know this from experience ... you could end up with a 1000 euro "tablet" that cannot use a sim card anywhere in EU

It's good advice, and I am worried about it. I see a number of devices for sale that say they're on a contract. Kind of terrifying that someone decides to switch providers and suddenly my phone is blacklisted.
Starting to hope for a Black Friday sale!
