Hello deer peeps!
I have some serious issues with my Gnote. It started months ago and became worse and worse. As the problem is at the moment, it has lousy battery time, it crashes a couple of times per day, when the battery starts getting low, the screen starts flickering more and more and then it freezes. Ive tried several times to install different CM versions, cleaning the cache, total wipeout, nothing really helps. A couple of days ago when the Note refused to work more than a few mins, I wiped it and reinstalled CM9.1 and this time I wont run things like HydraCore and lower DPI. The problem is less but still exists.
My question, this must be a hardware problem? Or can it be a software problem, if so, what can I do? Can it be that the battery is starting to break? Im a student so I really dont want to buy a new battery and find out that the problem doesnt come from the battery.
Could be the battery. Try a different battery to check if possible.
i believe is something to do wif kernel , when i do oc/uv will have such problem too.
check it out maybe i'm wrong.
I second that it may be the battery. I had loss of reception and flickering screen until I switched battery. You may try to rule out kernel issues by maybe going back to stock to see if it still happens

3rd for battery, had exactly the same issues and replaced the battery, all issues resolved instantly. There are a lot of people who've had this issue and battery resolves 9 times out of 10
ah thanx peeps! Ill buy a new battery then It shouldnt be the kernel issue since I havent been running a overclocked kernel for atleast 1 month.

A month or so back I started facing weird problems with my year old Galaxy Note, n7000:
1. After reboot, the battery would go down by 15-20% and then without charging the battery %age would gradually increase by 5-10%
2. lots of flickering on screen followed by auto shutdown whenever the battery %age went below 15-20% after normal usage
3. Very poor battery backup (I blamed most of this to the Rom Mods I had been installing at that time- only partially correct!)
I am sure that many of you might have been facing such problems and running from forum to forum to get a solution- I did.
Solution:
Get your battery replaced- most of us have had our Note for a year and some months now...life of the battery is approx 1 year for regular use, thus, the stock battery that we got with our Note is well past....
I never faced the above problems after battery replacement!
Hope this helps others like me!!
I started having this problem after getting a new battery, my old battery which was weak never showed flickering. But this new one which is original samsungs battery at below 15% show flickering and sudden discharge despite a good battery time.

I'm on the very same situation. Battery that cames with NOTE is exhausted now so I have got a new one just to find out now problem is even worse!! It can begin flickering with 40% juice battery!
The new replacement battery seems to be 100% samsung's original but... who knows??

I got rid of the damn problem after getting new ones...Is it possible that the batteries you bought are not genuine/fake?
Which ROM are you on- the Stock one or some mod-rom?
When I was searching for a solution to my battery issues some members suggested battery-calibration and full charge-full discharge cycle to get rid of the problem. Both the solutions suggested at that time did not work for me.
There was also a solution about cleaning the mini-USB connector which gets seriously dirty collecting grime from our pant pockets! That did work for me initially when the battery was good.
Please let me know if any of the above helps you.

Guys - Me too have the same issue, but this started immediate after updating the Jelly Bean 4.1.2. It never happened while on official ICS.
I could observe the battery is very much thick now, which is a symptom of over charging. The screen flickers and brings phone down abnormally.
After connecting the charger for a 5 seconds, suddenly the battery level shoots to original state from where it went down. Most frustrating, it happens very frequently.
I am not sure if the same will persist even after replacing with a new battery. Or I would need to go back to ICS again.
Any suggestions?
Cheers!
If the battery is bloated then it's better to get a new one.
Erm... is this thread still up?
I just wanted to know if the bloated battery would cause boot issues, stuck on the model screen?
I would guess the problem is with the bloated battery's voltage is insufficient to power up the systems... i guess
I need confirmations... thank you in advance

That never happened to me with a bad battery. What version of Android are you running?
i changed my battery just a two weeks before and the battery backup has decreased very much
can someone help me how to check whether my battery is in good shape or not ?
What do you mean with "battery backup"? Maybe "capacity"?
What battery did you buy?

4.1.2 xxlsz deodexed by eybee
The problem is, after I restored most of my data, apps and system data separately, the screen flickers a little bit and then the restore process completed without any problem. After that I restart the phone, stuck at the model screen only for unknown reason. The data is also from previous xxlsz which I had trouble with some system app crashed but fixed by returning to another backup though.
So, currently I'm leaving the phone without any data restored, only stock fresh out of the box xxlsz with titanium backup only installed. So far the phone is quite stable, I've turned off the adaptive power adjustment in display as well as lowest brightness just in cast it might occur again.
I've been reflashing xxlsz a lot this morning, over 3-5 times due to stuck in boot logo and model screen. Even though flashed the latest philz 4.90.8, it would just revert back to the old philz 4.8x with cwm 6.0.2.8
One last thing, my batter bloated pretty bad about half of it has been expanded. I mean from the bottom part (no copper connections), half of it has reached out of the body.
Well,
hppend to me b4, flickering issue below 10%. It was bloated. Bought new one. Bloated again after 6months. Again, bought a new one and it can last only 7 hrs without switch on data.
This is what we get from massive production company.

I seem to have the same issue
1. Battery drains rather bad
2. Screen flickering
3. Auto shutdowm
Used the battery in my wifes n7000 , however no issues at all
Only seem to happen on my phone.
I flashed it to stock std 4.1.2 , however problem still persist. auto shutdown few times a day
Gets worse when i use an external SD
@amogh you can check your battery voltages and battery temperature and compare that to optimum values. you can also use apps like AnTuTu battery tester.

Flashing another rom again wont solve much of the problem, if you happens to have the phone stuck in around bootloop and able to go into cwm, brace yourself, this process can get very repetitive to solve because a mere battery able to do such a problem. I had these experience before about 2 months ago before buying a new battery. Hope this link helps you understand a bit more of the battery

Hello everyone!
I have searched for other members who have this specific issue.. But I wasn't able to find any. So.. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Note (N7000) Model with a Screen Flickering issue. A few weeks ago I first experienced this after installing JB. I have tried several different clean installs with different JB leaks, even AOKP roms and more. But nothing seemed to fix this...
For a year my Note was working perfect, battery life was amazing and I loved it... But somewhere (between JB custom rom installs) it feels like it broke something... My phone works perfectly for like 6/7 hours now, it even goes in deep sleep and I have even bought myself a new battery... (So it's not a battery problem!)
At the moment I have returned to the RocketRom JB version (since that one was the last rom I have remembered before my phone died). But I still have this problem... So... my phone drains fast, and at around 5-30% battery left, according to the indicator it starts flickering when using apps and just interacting with the phone itself... And all of a sudden it just drops out.
Here's a quick recording of the issue. You can clearly see the flickering and the dropout.... I hope someone has any tips for this issue.
i had exactly the same problem
i solved it when i buy a new one battery.....and yes now its working like a new one.......
Replace Your Battery
I already replaced my battery... still have the problem.
Hi,
A few days ago I upgraded my Note from a very ancient (stock) Gingerbread ROM to (stock) Jellybean. I hadn't been getting OTA updates because the Gingerbread was originally German rather than UK, so quite a long time had passed without any updates. Anyway, because of the no OTA, I used Odin. Everything went fine and I had a nice few days of usage, although the battery consumption seemed to suddenly be quite high, mainly due to additional wakelocks from the new Google Search it looked like. The night before last at about 3% the phone turned itself off, which is unusual as normally the battery will run itself lower than that. BTW, it's an official battery bought just a few months ago to replace the one before, which was getting old.
Yesterday evening when I went to use the phone it was dead. Completely unresponsive. It wouldn't charge either. (The battery had been at about fourteen percent I think, so it should have still had a lot of juice left.) Turning it on would leave it stuck on the Samsung logo only. Recovery mode didn't work, but I could get download mode up, so I installed the Philz kernel as people have said, and then did a reset using that, and all was okay again and after reflashing the ROM I could use the phone again, although because of the reset I had to set everything up again.
Just wondering what people think caused it. Just a weird coincidence, or something else? As far as I'm concerned, the problem has been sort of mitigated for now, but definitely not fixed, because what's to stop it happening again? Has anyone heard of strange things going on with Jellybean? I know there's an issue with flashing/resetting from ICS, but I never used that so I don't think that's an issue, and it looks like it was just a soft brick only. Still, a bit weird and worrying. Does anyone have any ideas?
That was caused by an unexpected shutdown of your phone - if you remove the battery without it fully turning off then you will get it and yeah, blame samsung.
The only way not to have it again is to flash philz kernel with the bootloop fix BEFORE you get the bootloop. Alternativly, if you get it again then you can try what is in this post:

I didn't take the battery out though. It was low but not dead.
Since then it has happened once again, a few days ago, this time at 93% full. I was doing nothing at all taxing to the phone. I was just in a shop listening to an mp3 with the screen off, and then it stopped and the next thing I saw was the bootloop. Luckily (thanks to the new kernel?) I could just delete cache/dalvik and be back up and running again without having to reinstall everything. Today my screen temporarily went a weird purple colour like in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2216867 . Sounds like it's just dying in general really, rather than anything else. My phone contract upgrade date is in two days. Purely a coincidence of course. Weird how phones tend to last about the length of a mobile phone contract. Until then I'm just running on power saving mode and hoping for the best.
First off, an introduction. I seem to have bad luck with Android devices. Oh well, I love them anyway! Had a Galaxy S Captivate, Then a Tmobile Galaxy S 4G, and finally my N7000.
Problems have come with every device. The Captivate couldn't connect with Odin back in the day, so every flash was a dirty flash since I couldn't go stock. The Galaxy S 4G would constantly have problems. It was fine for awhile, but the ROMS never lasted. Always started to restart and glitch out. Random reboots, etc...
Now for my Note. It has been a great phone, despite a few drawbacks. It's over 2 years old; I purchased it right after they first came out. It worked great for about a year, even on custom roms. The last year, I've fallen way behind in the development area, but I've always ran custom. This whole year, I've been battling a couple huge issues. It started out as bad battery life. No big deal, I thought. Check stats, find the source, fix it. Then I try to flash a new rom. Still doesn't work. I end up living with the issue. That problem escalated into restarts, and even worse battery life. A flash or two later, and nothing worked better. Eventually, about half a year ago, I noticed my battery was started to swell. Thought that was the source of everything. I was wrong. New battery, and my phone is running just as bad, while getting steadily worse daily.
Presently, my phone is a mess. It's running ParanoidAndroid 4.3, BUT I am downloading the Team Asylum Kit Kat ROM right now as I type this. On PA, I have left the phone nearly completely stock since the flash. I followed the installation perfectly, even completely formatting both my internal and external SD cards to ensure a 100% new flash. Of course, it didn't help. Currently, my phone's battery won't last a day on light usage. 9 hours of life, and it will be to 5%. The last 30% of life drops EXTREMELY fast. When the phone was new, I would go 2 days on a charge easily. The source of this battery loss appears to be the infamous ANDROID OS, but I could never find the source, despite multiple apps trying to monitor my CPU and Batterystats. The phone runs Ok enough for daily use to the point where I have dealt with it. The phone will freeze completely every now and then, and a lot of the times it is on the lockscreen. On a complete freeze, it always results in a fast reboot after a minute or so. The last problem I can think of is my inability to read the external SD. A few weeks ago, my phone froze up completely, like normal, so I yanked the battery and rebooted. It started up as normal, but my external SD was nowhere to be found after that incident. No idea what happened, and I haven't had the time to try and get it working again.
Thank you to whoever took the time to read this. I'm sure some of my issues have already been covered in other threads, but I've tried things before and nothing seems to help. Maybe I just have a defective unit. It is getting old after all. I'd really appreciate anyone who might be able to help me resolve these issues. Getting this thing running smooth again would be like Christmas morning all over again.
QUICK SUMMARY FOR THOSE THAT DON'T WANT TO READ EVERYTHING
The phone is over two years old. Used to work good, now it doesn't.
-Replaced battery earlier this year since I noticed swelling in the original.
-Battery life is terrible. Dies after 9ish hours on LIGHT usage. ANDROID OS is the culprit. Used to last 2 days or more.
-Random restarts and lots of freezing.
-Freezing caused my external SD to completely disappear. Haven't been able to get access since.
-Running ParanoidAndroid 3.4. Flashing a new rom after I type this, but it probably won't change anything.
There's your short summary, although I may have already answered some of your suggestions up in my original post. If you can, at least read the second to last paragraph.
Again, thanks to anyone who can offer assistance! It would mean a lot to me since I feel like I still haven't gotten my money's worth out of this thing. Unlocked phones are spendy...
I would go back to stockbased custom roms 4.1.2 I found them very bettery friendly.

I've used SweetRom, ParanoidAndroid, Asylum, and Stunner, as well as many different versions of them all. They all worked great back in the day. I'd run them for long periods of time without any big issues. It's just lately, the problems are getting worse, and I don't see how I could be doing anything wrong with the installation.
Installed the latest 4.4.2 Asylum Omni last night. It's running really smooth so far. Other than having it fail to load the google startup thing on first boot, it has been working great. A restart fixed that, and nothing else has happened. Battery life is dropping pretty quickly however, but I need to run it through a few cycles to see how it works. I'm at 65% after 6.5 hours with light usage and 34min of screen on at max brightness. Screen is back on top of the list, as it should be, and is far exceeding Android system and OS, so I'm hoping it works better now. Time will have to tell on this ROM, but I'd still love to figure out why I've had so many problems with other flashes.

Happened to me too today.got n6 on 11th Dec.initially reboots started then after 2 weeks of observations I turned off ambient display and now random shut downs..
Phone turned off on 14 % battery just when I picked up an incoming call..then again turned off when there was a call..really fed up of this issue..
Don't know if its a hardware or software issue..
backup your phone, reflash stock img completely, and test without restoring apps.

I've never had a random reboot but I have had the random shutdown issue. This was running stock 5.0.1 with stock kernel. Also had the same occurrence on CleanRom with stock kernel (this is basically a stock rom/kernel with a few tweaks. Another user recommended flashing LeanKernel which I did and haven't had a problem since. This random shutdown was happening roughly once per day. I have been running strong for almost a week now I'd say. I always am the guy to run custom roms and kernels myself anyways but I actually don't mind the stock rom so flashing the kernel was no big deal to me. There are a few threads on this subject if you search the forums. I too am hoping this isn't hardware related since it's always a pita dealing with RMA.
Is there anything new onto that? Any possible solutions? Same issue for me, generally happens during calls ... :/
hmm strange, i never had any shutdowns, could be either your rom or kernel your on. make sure the kernel your using with ur rom is compatible

I was just looking for this.
Mine started doing the same.
I have the battery saver set to 5%, but it never turns on!
The phone shuts off between 10% and 5%.
The battery saver turns on for only for a few seconds(if at all) and the phone shows the powering off animation.
Connecting the charger and turning the phone on, after booting shows 8% already.
Its not normal, because i remember having my phone at 1% without any problems for tests when i got it in November...
For the last few weeks i never went lower than 25% so i don't know when this started, but since i found this out(5 days ago), i tried it every day and it happens like clockwork. Flashed the factory image back has no effect( i was on stock anyways).
Hoping not to have a replacement to save the cost of my dbrand and screen protector...
I give it one more week and if it doesn't change i call Moto. I have MotoCare so replacement should be easy.

Hi guys,
My 2 month old nexus 6 is powering down unexpectedly. Random shut downs (not reboots). Thought it was snap chat was the culprit (read a few articles how some 3rd party camera apps can cause lollipop to power down) but the phone shuts down even after uninstalling all suspicious apps.
Any advice or suggestions will be highly appreciated
Devs please help
I'm starting to really wonder if these "turbo chargers" are causing major degradation to the batteries. The phone will shut down when the battery *voltage* drops below a specific threshold, regardless of what the percent display is actually at.
Another thing to consider is that adding a significant load to a battery will cause it to read a lower voltage, even if that load does NOT immediately deplete the battery, those who notice this happening when running a very demanding game could be experiencing this. I would suspect though, that this will only be an issue if the battery level is already fairly low.
Any update on this?
5% is still my dead-spot and nothing i tried helps...
I just ordered my nexus but my s5 (current phone) randomly reboots. We figured it was due to volte. Turned that off on the s5 and no issues so far. Was really tired of it and the reason I'm going to nexus. That and the bigger screen

It must be caused by a bad batch of battery defects, Factory reset or re-flash factory image won't fix it... To get a replacement from Google seems to be the right way...

I use to have this issue. However, it has not happened since I started using Franco kernel. Multiple people have had the problem resolved by changing kernels. That leads me to believe that it is software related rather than hardware. Other benefits of flashing Franco for me is I can now use the built in led for notifications and I am using double tap to wake.

My battery issue happened after I kept using Franco for a while...then I switched back to elementalX or stock kernel, nothing resolved...
if the back cover doesn't peel off or the battery doesn't start to expand, it might be a good sign that it is just a software issue.
Otherwise, battery defect could be happening already, as in my case...
Changing kernels fixed my issue which was the phone shutting down on its own randomly. I guess some of you are experiencing a different problem.

Just a little update.
I did an advanced replacement with motorola.
Did it over chat on sunday, received the new phone on wednesday from texas.
Deposit was 500+tax.
The phone was brand new unopened box. Cloud White 64GB
The package had a box and a prepaid label to send the bad phone back.
The box was too small to fit a nexus 6, so i had to modify it a bit.
It was probably for the moto X or smaller.
Sent the phone back on Friday, they got it on Monday, and my money was back.
Everything looks great, the new phone can go down to 1% no problem.
The new turbo charger does not have the electrical noise that the old one has.
That may caused the battery problem. Using it since last Wednesday, and no problems so far.
The advanced replacement was great and easy, if i have to i would do it again, although in 3 months its gonna be a refurb device not a now.
Mine was in mint condition, had dbrand on and no scratches. The person who will get it after me will be happy with that refurb device
And i am happy with my new phone.
If the HTC M9 will have a GPE edition i might switch
