It provides a sim unlock code to allow you to use another operators sim card in your phone (assuming your phone is even locked to your operators network of course).

To unlock your SIM Card to work on any carrier you can either contact your Carrier and ask them for it or pay for an unlock code online.
You can try to unlock your bootloader and install a custom kernel, that worked on my Telia locked X8 and it just worked.

unlocking the phone to use any carrier sim card

Hi,
I'm from Chile and I've been in France for the last year and I bought a Note here with Orange (carrier).
I'm leaving again to my country and obviusly I would like to keep using my Note and using any carrier.
Looking around i got a little confused and I have some questions.
- Is unloking the simcard (i found some apps to do that) the same to unlocking the phone to use any carrier sim card?
- If not, what does unlock the simcard means? and there is a way (app or method) to do the second?
- If yes, a good app to do it? is GalaxySim Unlock a good one?

Q|Use code to unlock

Hey there,
I have a HTC one locked to sprint and I have an unlock code from an unlock site (that I use frequently).
The problem is that when I insert a sim it doesn't ask me to enter an unlock code like it should.
What can I do ?

[Q] Unlock network

Hi,
Just like to ask if there is a possible way to unlock the network on Sony Xperia V without rooting? My phone is only locked to one network and I want to unlock it (maybe some unlock codes to input) for other networks sim card.
Please help.
Thanks!
It has nothing to do with rooting, it is unlockable using unlock codes.

I see. So anyone can help to generate any unlock codes for this device?
Thanks!
You can get an unlock code from the provider it is locked to

how to unlock phone rooted and using DynamicKat 2.0 ?

I am going to aboard for 2 month and wanna using my phone. I wonder how to unlock the phone and use it outside U.S.
You can try to call AT&T to see if they will give you the unlock code. (unlikely)
I assume you are on post MI9 firmware. If so, Chainfire's region unlock will not work for you.
cellunlocker.net is a site you can go to to get it unlocked, you have to pay, but they are very reputable.

I always use unlockcode247.com (aka Myhoian on eBay), best unlocking site I know you get the code in a couple of hours. You also have to revert back to stock ROM to enter the code even in you get the code from ATT.

I didn't have to revert back to stock to use my unlock code. just put in non att sim and rebooted then entered the code.
