Restoring/backing up ROMs - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So there is the problem - I used to enjoy my CM10 but I flashed the Slimbean (4.2.1) today. It's fine but I forgot to backup my contacts..
Can I restore CM10, save contacts and then restore Slimbean back?
I have made nandroid backups of both.
Won't that cause any chaos?

flash cm10 - restore backup - save contacts- flash cm10.1 - restore backup
that will work without problems

Before you start flashing and restoring the nandroid backup have a look at appextractor (google play)
it should be albe to restore your contacts from nandroid.

Nandroid on ICS?

Hi,
Sorry for the noobish question but when I was on GB i enjoyed having a nandroid backup for messing around without restraint..
I'm now in ICS stunner (INCREDIBLE), is there an equivalent of nandroid backups??Can I use titanium backup as usual to backup/restore my apps?

Erhhh, what's wrong with Nandroid? I presume that ICS Stunner comes with a CWM kernel?

[Q] cwkmod flashing/data

So if i make a cwkmod backup if i install a custom rom can i restore just the data ?
Thanks if you can answer
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
You can, but with a very probable bootloop. Better to use just titanium backup.
Is that an android app or on pc? And cheers
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
Titanium backup is a root app that creates backup of apps+data, like you would by manually copying files, but with a nice UI. Pretty handy for changing roms.

use titanium backup... its going to work fine for user apps+data but will mostly give problems with system app+data restore... so take backup of system data like contacts and sms by some other means... dont just depend on titanium for these ...
press thanks if i helped !!!

I make nandroid backups all the time and have never even made a backup to my internal sdcard. Do you even have CWM installed? If so, perhaps it's time to update it. The backup is for everything at once, although you are able to restore only the data later on.
If you want specific per-app backups, install an app for that such as Titanium Backup.

[Q]Nandroid backup for stock ICS

Hello guys,
I rooted my phone top make some changes so I have recovery mode
But when I tried to make nandroid backup for the stock ICS v.30b
It makes file 12 mb only
I tried a lot but same issue
I didn't try to restore it
But is this normal

So what's the problem
Thnx

What version of cwm are you using? V6.x is only making one big backup and after that only incremental backups

but the previous backup I have is cm10.1 not ICS

How to save game progress ?

Hey guys,
I want to know how can i save my game progress ? Like i played nfs mw till #2 for the 3rd time. And now flashed cm10 and after restoring app using ultimate backup, the game progress was LOST! :crying:
Now i have to play the whole game again
I never lost any progress with Titanium Backup. Try it.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda premium
Yeah..have you tried titanium backup? Just restore the data and you will have your saved game progress.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
I tried titanium backup once.
Sorry, but it was so complicated that i didnt use it ever after. Will try now again
One thing.
Im on cm10. And i have my old rom cwm backup.
So if i take a backup of cm, restore old rom, take backup of nfs, restore nand backup of cm, i get my game progress ?
Well thats need hell lot of patience! But anything for nfs. I love it
Try TITANIUM BACKUP !!! Super easy, go to the App you wanna backup. Select Backup, select App (only apk) App + Data (all includes game save)

But for that i ll have to go back to my old rom, take backup using titanium, come back to cm. :/
i tried to restore cwm backup, but it says md5 mismatch.
what to do now ?
I think you can't restore stock based rom from cm because of the diff kernel. Not sure though.

oh yeah. just remembered that as you told. and that is true..
now, to restore, i will have to flash stock from odin>root>kernel>restore>backup>cm>restore!
I'll play the game again :|
MD5 fail is a bug. Go to your SD Card --> CWM folder ----> backup folder -----> delete the old md5 file and create a md5 file. ---> now should restore
