Case That Uses Removable Back Cover? - Nexus 10 Accessories

What are the cases/covers out there (if any) that use the removable back cover area for attachment? It seems a waste to have that designed in and not be able to use it somehow. I swear I saw at least one smart cover that was using that feature but I can't seem to locate it now.

Haven't heard of any, just the "official" one from Google that only showed up in the very first videos, never to be seen again.

I don't know why it hasn't been made by a third party yet.

Nobody hires designers, they only use scanners to copy existing designs. As soon as google/partners release the original cases/chargers, then manufacturers will copy, change something like the materials and sell them for a 3rd of the price.. I think that's why google doesn't push its accessories.
The go to Frys and look for Samsung tablet cases. The $70,but right beside them are identical cases, cut the same but made of different colors or textures selling for $20....
Just my opinion.... Case/accessory manufacturers could make a bundle if they hired a designer and beat Google to the punch.... Look at the pogo supplier, they are flying out the door.

HTC Incredible pre-release battery door for sale

I have a Droid Incredible Pre-release battery door and want to sell it. I've only used it once and got a few months after the release. This is extremely rare and I rather not sell it but i need the cash. It has the the cool android dude on it and says HTC Incredible. It also comes with the inner cover that you can replace to get red accented power and volume buttons. It is in great condition. Price is negotiable. I haven't seen anyone else ever sell one of these so I know its extremely rare and I don't have another one. If anyone may like to buy this please PM me with an offer. I have had this in my display case above my desk but I need to sell it now. I remember some people on the XDA wanted it so Im posting it here. XD
This auction has been moved to ebay:

I think its really cool. It was the original battery door to the Incredible, but before it was released they changed it to the the cheaper black rubber door.
$20. LMK. pay pal ready.
Will help pay for something better than a web cam.
I'll offer $30 USD.
very sexy, not good for me since i use a case but i have a question,
what is the process of replacing the inner cover?

To Replace the inner cover, you have to unscrew the screws and carefully pry off the undercover. This will void your warranty but it will also allow you to have red accented buttons XD.
Id totally enter this auction if I didn't feel like I've already spent a fortune in accessories and batteries and whatnot.
Tis a damn sexy case though, that's for certain. Dunno if id be willing to void my warranty to get the red accents, however.

I've seen this somewhere before. But I don't think it works on the actually live unit, maybe on a dummy.

Point is they usually don't go for anything, because nobody sells them.
I researched and found out that this battery door was on some dummy units. It's not actually a "pre-release" door.
I even found them on eBay for $23.

^Nice. I wish I would have seen that a couple of weeks ago before I bought my red one from Verizon.

youre kinda right but these are dummy phones you found on ebay, means the back door is glued/screwed on and not interchangeable...so even if it's not a prerelease door at least it will fit on someones phone
edit: I mean the OP's backdoor will fit...the dummy phone backs WILL NOT fit our phones, I hope ppl didnt think I meant the other way around

After looking at this Ebay page more closely, I found that the battery covers that they have and I have are different. The speaker hole on mine isn't even that shape. If you compare my photos to theirs, you will see how theirs is fake. The original prerelease battery covers have the main speaker hole the way mine does.
yeah they're not the same as the one you have..the ones you have were sold on a site a couple months back but sold out
Isn't it backwards? The camera and LED ports are on the right????

Asus case is not a smart case!

I just my got my asus case today, and was disappointed to find it lacking any kind of magnets.
I will post some photos of the case as soon as I get a chance to.
Isn't it just like the official Google one? Basically a tpu case with a door flap for the screen. Asus just has more colors.

Why did you expect it to be a smart case? It was never advertised as such and neither Google nor ASUS ever made mention of the magnetic sensor on the N7.

Asus has 6 colors (they're all very candy-like) and looks like the "official" Google case (on Google Play) is still listed as Coming Soon. Only in Dark Gray so far.

actually the official ASUS case says it is a smart case
and
yes it does have a magnetic sensor, its about 1.5 inches up the left hand side.....
Like the shape "Rectangle", and the gesture "Swoop", Apple has a patent on magnets in cases.
Worth reading. They don't only patent a specific implementation, they also claim all derivations.

Uh, I have the official ASUS case and it is not a smart case, and nowhere does it say it is or would be. Source perhaps?
Yes, we all know it has a sensor, but it was never ADVERTISED as having a sensor. My guess is that it's there for either some other future accessory, or ASUS snuck it in for 3rd party case manufacturers to take advantage of only, in an attempt to piss off Apple and bypass their patents.

iPad like cases/covers

I, like most of you, am pretty underwhelmed at the quality of cases and covers available for the Nexus 7. Everything I've seen looks extremely bulking and makes the device look terrible. Does anyone know of any case that doesn't make the device look terrible. I just want something that has the smart unlock feature and that can fold to make a stand. The official case from google does none of those and I'm very disappointed in them. Though, I guess it was a lawsuit waiting to happen with Apple I guess

I love the idea, and Isaiah seems like a good guy that I'd like to support. My only worry is wear on the stress points of the material that's being used to cover the panels. Will it split or wear holes through where it flexes or supports weight?

Normally prices on Amazon do not change after the cover is released. I did notice that the slim fit cover for moko changed by a few dollars after launch but nothing drastic. That could have also been because they did 2 recalls on it It is however a risk you take.
As for me I am waiting for some reviews.

Nexus 10 Smart cover

I am sure you guys see the video posted by Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/nexus-10-hands-on-video/), and just wondering about official smart cover for Nexus 10 that shown in video will be available? you know what I mean like Nexus 7's official smart cover never made it because probably they afraid that Apple sue them...
I know Nexus 10's smart cover seems different than Apple's iPad one, looks like they have modified a lot to avoid being sued by Apple?
what do you think?

I'm with you. I seriously hope they release that smart cover shown in the video. Love the concept of the smart cover, something that doesn't add to the thickness of the device but still covers the screen and can act as a stand.
I'd love something like that, but the cover they showed can't even work as a stand. It's a pretty crappy piece of design work, honestly. I'm hoping for much better from them once things are official.
Very interested to see a closer look at this smart cover and any other official accessories they got coming. I read somewhere Motorola might make an "official" keyboard.

It's really a "Google" device AFAIK, so it doesn't seem that far out. It seems we always get let down when it comes to Nexus devices and accessories.
What's really going to help a LOT is the cover mounting area...there's nothing stopping third parties from using that same system with their own wide variety of covers.
I can easily see kickstand covers (like the old Zenus cases), segmented Smart Cover knock offs, simple folios, the works, using this mounting system.
And you can bet Google is happy to let third-party Chinese sweatshops churn these out, even if they infringe on Apple work. Why? Because it's doubtful Apple will bother to go after them if they infringe on "Smart Cover" designs (they haven't yet for other tablet covers), and a wide variety of accessories makes it more desirable to the consumer.
I hope this case will be available for the nexus 10:

I was thinking that 10" wasn't big enough for a decent keyboard, but if you include the bezel, the Nexus 10 is actually 12" diagonal. And if the keyboard case really goes edge to edge like that one, it could have actual full-sized keys. Just save me from that tiny right shift key, ugh. Anyway, neat!
on the google play store under the 'what's in the box' it just says Nexus 10 tablet, so i don't think the smart cover is part of the package from google. hopefully we might be able to get one elsewhere

I just ordered the 32GB Nexus 10, but I am very dismayed at the lack of availability of any type of case for it. Needless to say, that tablet won't be going anywhere except my home. Hurry up, Google, with making the smart cover available for consumers to purchase.
So I heard a rumour that the reason the cover they sent to reviewers isn't for sale is that they didn't get very good feedback on it from the reviewers or the public reading about it.
So, they went back to the drawing board for a more versatile cover, one that serves as a stand as well as a screen protector, and it simply wasn't ready for mass production on launch day.
TL;DR: Patience, good cover coming from Samsung/Google, and of course a plethora of covers from third parties.

Quick look at the official Asus TF701 case

I am visiting Taipei at the moment and was able to purchase the official TF701 case direct from Asus. This case does add a little thickness to the tablet. Unlike the older covers, it is not using the bottom slots. Instead a semi transparent hard plastic back cover snaps in place protecting the entire tablet. All openings align perfectly, power and volume buttons feel responsive. As seem in the picture, you have to open the front cover to charge the tablet, there are no openings on the bottom of the case when closed. Aside from the little added weight and thickness, I am liking the case. One thing to point out is that the case does enable the auto screen on/off function. Screen on somehow takes a while and is not instantaneous, most of you are already experiencing this even without the case.
