This idea came about after my brother was held up at knife point for his Note II. He was just commuting home at night but thankfully nothing really bad happened to him.
I commute and I hate the idea of losing my new Note II. So, I modified my old wood covered planner by cutting out the paper layers to form a niche for the Galaxy Note II. I considered including the silicone casing to tighten secure the device into place.
I control the device with a smart watch like the old Sony Ericsson LiveView and my wireless stereo remote earphones. My main line is another common smartphone. The Note serves as my secondary line. I can quickly make calls, read & reply sms (pre composed) via the smart watch.
You just need to use the Note in safer places and not flaunt by using it while in the mod planner for long periods of time. It would also help that you install a screen dimmerv app so as the light will not to give away that you have the Note in it and keep your phone in discreet mode with just vibration alerts.
While most are flaunting this great device, it's less likely that the would-be robber will suspect that the Note is in the planner. The secondary phone is your "smoke-screen" device you will surrender.
In this way, there's no need to do any struggle especially when he has a gun pointed at you.

The previuous post are shots after I managed to cut the inside of the planner. It took me 2 hours to cut and an overnight of drying out the Elmer's glue with a small paint brush on the interior side of the cut out edges.

Oh, I check the forum and we are all talking about gun control?
Sigh. Ok, back on topic - the screen light would give it away at night. I imply the screen filter to dim it down at 20%. I recommend that you put your browsers at negative or dark backgrounds. I guess you have a settings when you have it in there. It isn't going to be 100% elimination of light bouncing off the opposite page.
The point of going through this trouble is concealment of your device while you travel or commute. It's about an extra layer of precaution. Keeping it out of sight will somehow lessen the provocation of a hold-up. And in the event of a hold-up, be it with whatever threat of life, just give your cheap secondary phone.
There is no point of dying for something you can replace.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium HD app
Of course not in the dark. I meant at night in a lit place. The point is - concealment; stealth; secret; not obvious; discreet; hidden; disguised...
I put the Note II in the planner when I am traveling or commuting to another place. I remove the Note entirely from the planner without showing that I have taken it out for long use in a cafe, or safe public places. You can conceal this process of taking it out or putting it back in inside your bag.
When you do need to do something with the Note's UI, it should be brief enough and unnoticeable. Backing up to a wall is one way. With the first S Pen on a holder accessory, you would look like you're jotting down something.
Other than concealment, the planner keeps the Note damage safe from drops.

I was really thinking of using it only in situations where your handset's light would otherwise ruin the effect. But I can see the reading light drawing attention too. I guess it's use would have to be occasional and with a judgement call.

My further development for the planner is to use a page and cut it exactly the Note II's screen profile and to cover the rest. I seem to be able to trigger the back and option capacitive buttons through the paper. The front paper can be held in place by using Blutack.
I still have 2 extra planners to experiment on, probably integrating the first S Pen with the holder accessory into the niche. Any further suggestions are appreciated.

Damn, that's really unfortunate. My friend had his iPhone taken in the middle of the day. The guy asked if he could make a call, then walked out of the store, and when my friend followed him, he said he had a knife and to walk the other way.
I understand where you're coming from with this mod, but in all honesty, the best way to prevent getting into a situation like this is to be smart. Of course I don't know the full story, but my advice to anyone is keep your phone concealed whenever you can and be mindful of your surroundings. May seem paranoid (Hey, I'm kinda tall for my age but I'm also pretty skinny), but I'm always watching around me for anything/one suspicious - especially when walking down a dark/sketchy side street.
Glad your brothers safe though. Situations like this can turn ugly fast.
I still have my old HTC Amaze 4G, so I'm working on finding a VNC server app for my Note II and a client for my Amaze, and then simply tethering my Amaze to my Note. Then I can leave the Note in my pocket connected to my headphones, and control it with my Amaze.

I came across this a few days ago. Its the HM5100 BT S Pen from Samsung. Im really interested in it but since it was only a parting gift for attendees at one of Samsung's events, its limited availability and I see it selling for almost $200 on ebay. I'm wondering...is its worth that much?

It's also a Bluetooth mic and speaker, multipurpose. I can see it being valued at $200. Worth that much is debatable.

Original Note 2 S-Pen costs 32 euro in the Netherlands, available in white and grey.
This is for 10.1..i have the normal s pen with eraser for note 10.1 which i try to use it on note 2..i found when drawing or write something, its off set a little bit..i even try original S pen 10.1 in its slot..same result..off set..not convinient when writing something..idk if S pen with bluetooth is same off set..it looks like s pen for note 2 is different

I've seen on other sites that Samsung will most likely release this pen for purchase as well. The good packaging also leads me to believe this might be true. I like the idea of the bigger pen, but the phone call feature seems kind of pointless. 130 seems a bit high though... Also seems like sort of a burden unless there is a case you can store it in as well, otherwise just another component to bring with you.
Speaking on the topic of pens!
I have a couple all-white, axiotron pens from using it with my ASUS EP121 tablet. I noticed that they work in a similar fashion as the SPen does but one thing that they do that the SPen does not is an erase feature! I can flip around the pen and use the other side to erase what I have drawn but the SPen can't do that... I tried to use the link to find the pens that I bought but the link is not working anymore!
Just a heads up, that there are pens out there that can give you an easy 'erase' feature if you're using the device for a lot of drawing/sketching.

For that amount of money it's NOT worth it to me.
I'd just get a regular BT headset and go hands free. and use the SPen built into my phone.
Just got one!
I just received mine! I'm currently in Europe, so I got it from Amazon Germany for about 55 Euros, which s still cheaper than the cheapest order possibility in the states.
Anyway, I bought it for my Note 10.1 3G, but since that has been borrowed by the GF, I just paired it with my Note 2. Paired fine, calls seem OK,
However, the S Pen part won't work on my Note 2 when my original S Pen is attached to the phone. Only when I remove my factory S Pen, then the BT S Pen works on the screen.
Anyone else have this problem? If yes, were you able to find a workaround?
I want to be able to use the BT S Pen without having to detach the original one - seems ridiculous that it won't work like this.
I love my Bodyglove slim case (not the slippery one, the tmobile model), but I wanted a kickstand. I couldn't find one I liked. So while browsing I found a site showing a credit card cradle. I decided to improve on the design. Trace a credit card on an old VHS case, use the pics as a rough template, use black tape to adjoin them. Note: place pieces together, not flat when taping, it help them stay flatter in folded position. I you use a case make the notch the width of your phone with case on. At the angle I used it works in portrait or landscape, very stable! I made 5 in less than 30 minutes, one for work ID case, wallet, home girlfriends house, etc. Sorry cant show with phone in cradle as I dont have access to another camera.

I've had every Galaxy since the very first one to the GS4 and I wanted to try something different and I am GLAD I did!! Even little things like just holding the phone in your hand it is so well made, and it is FAST!! As far as the camera complaints I DO NOT see what these people are talking about because I think the camera is GREAT!!! Unless you plan on using the camera as a wedding photographer then maybe not, lol. But I highly recommend this phone.

Since the original EVO I have had nothing but the Galaxy line till now. The main thing holding me back from the M7 was the lack of a SD card but the M8 has one so I decided to try it out. First thing I have noticed is the build quality. The M8 feels like a work of art and my S4 (after a few months) was developing bubbles under the glass and the battery case was scratched and worn away in some place. I don't see that happening here but time will tell. The boom sound speakers are also a huge plus. I used to have to cup my hand around the rear speaker on the S4 when showing someone a video. No longer. These speakers sound great and are loud. The camera has also been really fun. I'm not sure what the complaints are all about but the picture quality has been great and dual lens make for some really cool effects. I'm sure down the line there will be some cool camera apps on the market that will even add to the dual lens. The battery life has been great too. Unplug in the morning and plug in at night with plenty of battery life left. I wasn't too impressed with the launcher or Blinkfeed so I just switched to the Google now launcher and it works fine. I'm also looking forward to try out new Roms and the future of development for this phone. As of now I am very happy with the change.

I always thought touchwiz was designed by children. I mean, what company uses those colors and a 'water drop' sound for touch sounds? There are a few features I miss though, like swipe to call/text in contacts and led notification while charging. I'm pretty happy with the m8 though.

Coming from an s3. The s5 was an aesthetic let down, looks like a band-aid. The M8 was a clear choice minutes after their unpacked event.
I had a note 3 which I sold and got the M8. I got a little tired of the huge screen, and could not justify purchasing a smaller version of the same phone. Only thing is I am having a real hard time getting used to the on screen buttons leading to a huge bottom bezel. I am working on getting pie controls and removing the soft keys to see how it works out.
However, having a metal phone is WORLDS better than plastic. I dont use cases on my devices and I just like to pick up the phone to feel it sometimes. Pie controls - soft keys will make this the best phone ever made.

Pretty much this. Had the OG Epic and the GS3. Wanted something different, plus the front speakers and having the charging and headphone jacks on the same end were huge selling points for me. Was leary off the camera, but so far it's great. 4mp is plenty for regular 4x6 prints. Those high mega pixels are really only better if you plan on blowing up pictures to poster size. And I would imagine, that if you were in need of pictures for something like that, you'd want to use an actual camera and not a phone camera of any type....lol
Only complaint I really have are the amount of useless icons in the status bar. What a mess! Hopefully that is something that can be fixed with future software updates. I couldn't care less about the spark icon, and do we really need a constant GPS icon whether it's on or off? Dumb...

I feel quite relieved to see that video, but want to see tests by people out there too (and want to put a sock in Bendgaters).
Apple needed to justify there poor design so tried to take some heat away and mock Sammy for a gap which I may add is on most phones to allow for glass to fit in between the frame. Good to see Samsung showing the phone is of high build quality and proving it scientifically. Apple messed up but will never admit it as well.as all the isheeps. I love my Z2 but isheeps are very worrying people. Almost like a cult.
