Casio G-Shock Bluetooth 4.0 wristwatch and WP8 support? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I'll soon get the fantastic Casio G-Shock with Bluetooth 4.0 link function - which normally works with iOS and Android OS. As i also have a Nokia Lumia 920 additional to my iPhone I'd like to use it with this new gadget. Is there any possibility to convert the existing Android App into a working WP8 App? Any solutions out there?
best regards,
Oliver

Nope, no chance. Thank Microsoft for the restriction.
I'm a GShock fan btw. Tough Solar with auto illuminator, black on black my favorite watch.

They don't allow it.

How do they not allow it? Bluetooth APIs are open, heck, you can even open bluetooth sockets and transmit raw data over them (unlike NFC, which is limited to NDEF formats). It's up to Casio to make the app. If Casio decides WP is not a big enough market, fair enough. They could release the protocols the watch are using, and developers can make an app for them.

Smh. You obviously know how to use the internet, clearly you do because you're on this board.
How about searching the internet for the kind of access Casio needs. Its more than a simple app that is needed.
Apple just added the functionality IOS 5 & 6.

Wow that's amazing! Bluetooth 4.0.
You're still missing the required SPP and MAP profiles.
Try researching and understanding next time.

Lets do a Walkie Talkie!

Hello, I saw those funny sprint commercials where you have people like delivery men running schools, music junkies running an airport etc.
So I was thinking of having an app for the raph that will use wifi or bluetooth to communicate with other phones in the area running that program.
I found this: http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5440.html
but I was hoping if we can work on one that will run on WM 6.1, and symbian (for those nokia n95s and stuff) to communicate in a walkie talkie like fashion.
Anyone up? =)

Im sure he is well aware of push to talk. That was a pretty arrogant response to a perfectly legitimate question. I use PTT on my device, and I pay for it.
NOT ALL DEVICES ARE PTT CAPABLE. But all have either bluetooth of WIFI. I would really like to see this mature into a program. I think it would be really cool for a program to use PTT on a wifi connection through a wireless router. That way the rx/tx field would be more widespread than bluetooth.
I started a tread about Loudtalks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3239233#post3239233
Loudtalks is a freeware ;-) IM program for "walkie Talkie" Push to Talk.
And it works all over the world, also over GPRS or Faster.
You don't have to be on the same wifi-point.
It's quick, simple (even i can instal), works on windows mobile and windows pc systems.
Download, install, fill in a username and password and you can chat. Even with your self (echo) hihi.
Thanks, everyone. Unfortuneatley, LoudTalks only works on windows mobile :-(. Having a program that works exclusively on WinMo excludes the rest of the world that has symbian or another OS. Does a multiplatform program all ready exist?
I woould really like to see something like this that takes advantage of wifi or bluetooth.

But it might work from one motorcycle to another or from car to car... Ok, we use PMR or LPD ;-)
sjphone
Use sjphone !
Unfortuneatley many of those applications are available JUTS for windows or JUST for symbian.
I'm trying to find a solution that will work for both.
i think palringo can be used too, it can be used for windows mobile and blackberry.

It's a waste of time.
Seriously, if you want good talkies-walkies, buy some real.
With bluetooth it's just LOL, and with Wifi it will drain quickly your battery. And all participants must have device compatible and the soft.
And no garanteed it will works nice. Wifi is crap for this usage.
A bit of an old thread but I am looking for exactly the same as the OP and replies such as this are somewhat blinkered.

Bluetooth is less suitable than WiFi due to its shorter range, agreed.

With no knowledge of the intended usage, this is possibly entirely untrue.
My need for this is on a motorcycle when battery drain is totally irrelevant since it will be constantly powered from the machine.

When you have such a specific need, I'd say it's perfectly obvious that the participants will be collaborating and have the same software that they need. Another supposed 'negative' that has no substance.

Not at all. If that were the case, due to your arguments presented above, no Windows Mobile should ever use WiFi.
It'd still be pretty awesome to have this, lol.

[Q] Non Nokia navigation options

I think many would agree that one of the compelling reasons to go down the WM8 Lumia route is the great selection of Nokia apps, especially Drive which I use alot on my 800. I am severely tempted to buck the Nokia trend and go with the Ativ-S or 8X and wondered what my navigation options are on those devices? So far, the only app I have seen that is close in comparison is Navigon, but I am unwilling to pay £72 when all other smartphones come with navigation software built in.

[Q] HTC One Remote Controller function

So, we've heard and seen about the IR and remote controller function, but I didn't exactly understand it. Is it going to work with only smart TVs? I mean can we just use it as a normal, universal remote controller?

I don't think it is a small feature. That means that with the Right soft (understand app) you can virtually have the equivalent to a harmony universal remote control to master all your IR devices such as TV bluray home theater. I have an harmony and its awesome. Getting old though.

AW: [Q] HTC One Remote Controller function
Already tested it and it works fine.
For most devices there are preconfigired setups. If your device is not listed, you can "teach" the phone by holding original remote to the power button and by pressing any button on remote.
Sadly the set of buttons is limited (only most common buttons available)

If only they could have put the IR port just beside the camera I could have made something alot more better hahaha!

Bigger hint: The App is called "TV" in the App drawer!
Have to say i'm quite impressed with it, i thought it was just a bit gimmicky but after trying it out it's quite good.
My 8 year old son was very impressed with it...."woah mum, dad's phone can turn the TV over!"......the wife wasn't impressed at all
Can't wait to get back to work in a few weeks and start p***ing the lads in the canteen off by turning the TV over!
Great thing is, that SGS4 also have IR sensor.
So we can expect some nice apps in near future and another devices with such functionality.
Back to the roots, earlier each phone had IR (ok not same like now)
Oh my. This feature is epic.
For Virgin Media users dont select your cable box as Tivo, it doesn't work select Virgin Media in the option.
Its Epic. EPIC EPIC.
I can't get it to work with my Sharp tv. The auto setup fails and when I try to get it to learn from my existing remote it will learn some buttons but not others. So I can mute the tv, but not unmute it. None of the numbers work, but the volume controls do.
Has anyone got any ideas? Would be awesome to get it all up and running.

You can try to teach your phone from a universal remote that works on our TV.
Well the -Vol button on my Denon DAB Hi-Fi remote in my office has just died so this new phone can't come at a better time.
Same for me, The work TV remote is literally in three pieces on the table after someone destroyed it this week.

multi user restricted profile based on android 4.3 to support NEXUS 4

I don't really see the point of such a feature on a phone anyway. Unless you share your phone with someone, which I highly doubt, considering you own a highend smartphone.

Another stupid patent that should have never been issued, or should no longer apply to modern smart phones. Today's smart phones are not phones, but micro-computers with phone capability. How many computers are not capable of multiple user accounts?

lol apple ipad!! XD
Hi,
Well, if it makes more sense to activate that setting on a tablet than on a phone, I must say that, almost every time we are in the car for a (even mildly) long trip, the kids ask to play on my phone...
What bothers me is 2 things :
- 1°) they install a lot of things that I do not want as personal use ;
- 2°) they both want to play the same game but can only have 1 for both, so, supposing it's a game to build a village, they play on the others village...
So, even though I understand the reason, I think that multi-user DOES make sense, even on a phone !
Regards.
NexusPenguin
I think there is an app that provide that feature.
You can also download an app to enable multiuser, but you have to use low dpi like 190dpi which make the phone unusable.
The easiest way is to install Paranoid Android which have the feature included.

Porting Android Auto to Aftermarket Android Headunit?

So I have a DVD headunit which I purchased last year it has better specs than those of Windows CEs but still was wondering what is the minimum required hardware to run Android Auto or to port it?

Anything is possible.
It's just "very, very difficult" without Google's source code.
Without the Google code (which I doubt will be released), or code from a non-trivial reverse engineering project, I think it would become merely "very difficult", especially for Chinese devices with no documentation.

Automate is an app that looks somewhat, sort of similar to AA, but it's not AA, and it won't be able to take advantage of all the AA enhancements Google will be putting out over the next several years.
I've written an Android Auto Headunit app that can turn a tablet or phone into a basic AA compatible headunit. It works with the standard Google AA app and will continue to support it as it, and my app, get new features.
Tablets on a dashboard have some disadvantages compared to "real" head units.
So I'm now looking at the most popular Chinese headunits, and I'd like to try to get my app to run on the more popular ones at least. If it looks more or less like a standard Android device, which is pretty likely, it should work...
I'm about to post release #2 of my app on my thread in this section if anyone wants to try.

It seemed to work on my stock Xperia P with 4.1.
It's currently configured to require 4.0 minimum, but there is some small chance it could even run on 2.3, if a good H264 decoder is present.
