[Q] ROM with more battery life - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I don't have an overview anymore about all these custom ROMs out there for the n7000.
I'm looking for a stable, "basic" ROM with the latest Android, espically one with a good battery life.
Hope you can help me.

Battery life all sorta depends on how often you use your device and the things you do with it. With all the roms i used i never had a rom on my device that had a noticeble extended batterylife.
However you could underclock your cpu and try to find that line where your device still performs good enough.
Anyhow turning off wifi when you dont use it really makes a difference.
Id start with cyanogenmod 10.1 if you want to run android 4.2.
Or beerbongs build of Paranoid Android, if you can forget the battery thing and just want an aosp rom with some awesome features (check threat in original android development)

Yeah battery life largely depends on how you use your phone..
But I can tell you, I've personally found improvement upon flashing Ultimate ROM (first flash only, second time it was very bad actually) and I see many positive feedback regarding battery life on BurtROM.

Try Blockbuster 5.0 with last galaxian kernel. No fc, best colours i ever have, brilliant battery life and super smooth and fast

Tornado: kernel allows you to completely cleanse your system, then load Tornado rom and you have fast, sleek and stable. No issues.
It seems the last two posters misunderstood the question. I think he's asking about Samsung stock ROMs, not custom ROMs.
In which case, from my personal experience, JS8 is the best Samsung ROM I've used, as I had no issues or bugs with it, and it was pretty quick without a lagfix. For Gingerbread, JVQ/JVR are the latest, and probably the best, but do have niggles. Arguably though, they're slightly better performers than JS8. So if you want reliable, go with a very late Froyo ROM, but if you want the best performance, just go with the latest Gingerbread.

That's exactly what i mean.
In my experience only samsung stock roms hadn't this kind of problems, maybe just a little lag, but i they are so sure, maybe i'll try those 2 roms
I am very happy with the ROM Amestris [XXJVR], fast and more importantly stable.
From the graphical point of view is very impressive (nice icons) without changing too much stock rom

[Q] best rom for only phone usage

Hi guys, I got this phone for free with bell mobility as my 2nd phone for my business line. I'm going to be using this phone only to make phone calls. No internet, ever. No wifi, maybe some bluetooth once in a while. No games, no apps. I have a Galaxy nexus for that.
Which rom would be the best for good battery life?
Thanks guys
Talking about the battery life and from personal experience,I would suggest using MIUI rom. The battery lasts for at least 2-3 days(for me) with normal use(wifi, music etc),so should go a far way if only used for calls.
Alternatively, if you prefer Sense UI,I've heard good things about the battery life of Android Revolution HD.
Finally,it's always best to just test several roms yourself in real life situations for several days, and then picking the rom which suits you best.
after playing with it a bit I'm not a big fan of sense...
I'll give miui a try, thanks

+1 for miui. might just be in my head, but seems to be even more battery efficient than cm7.

What version of MIUI do you use? There are so many I was going to wait for the updated galnetmiui ics one.
I would take the CM7 Nightly#146 and edit the .zip file and remove all the .apk files from system/app that you don't need.
That will give you a very light ROM.

Opinions on Best Roms

Hello all
i have just been given a samsung galaxy note and would like to know your opinions on the fastest custom ROMS/Kernals ideally i am interested
in speed and battery life. what experiences have you guys had with modding your galaxy notes ?
any feedback as to your opinions of different ROMS is appreciated
-Cheers lads
The predictable Cyanogen answer with all based on Cyanogen.
Easy to flash, stock, fast, light on the battery, has the cooler stock Android ICS look. CM10 coming 'round the corner with JellyBean.
Not recommended for those that love TouchWiz and things like S-Memo.
Well at first i was scared of flashing CM based roms cuz i thought i.d loose s.memo.....but then i took the plunge n believe me m really happy with it.....

You've got a few S-Pen tuned alternatives, like Papyrus. But the gain in performance and battery is really good when you compare it to TouchWiz ROMs. Adding the fact that IT'S SAFE, meaning you can flash/wipe all you want (the CM team did a WAY better job than Samsung on that) and...the choice is pretty obvious for me, really...
If you're going to look into TouchWiz ROMs, make sure you either choose one with a safe kernel included or flash a safe kernel afterwards (I think speedmod...??? Not really sure though, you'll have to research that)
Im using Criskelo v9 rom with GL- Notecore v8.1 (OC) kernel, everything working as it should and the speed is awesome as far as battery goes ive only been running the kernel a few days and it seems ok. I charge my phone every night so battery life is no issue here.Everbody's usage differs tho, if your after longer battey life i wouldnt opt for an OC kernel.

Actually S-memo and the other sammy apps for the s-pen are better than the likes of papyrus and other apps. So for those who want/need s-memo stick with touchwiz based roms.
you guys can get angry with me but im honest to my heart,...as of now there is no rom that is completely good..im going back to gb
all tw ics roms have one major problem: SCROLLING aint smooth enough( ive tried em all)..they stutter like hell!!
and cm9 roms arent that great for battery life...
cm 10 aint fully functional...
all in all i hate it that samsung has created a wonderful device with awesome specs but totally screwed the software releases throughout...to make it even worse is black clipping!!.. im just irritated with this device, dont feel like owning a premium device...im about to sell it hopefully note 2 is better coz the spen and screen size are unbeatable!!!
Stock ROM is the best.
Hi your best option is to go for a Touchwiz rom which you can highly customize during installation. Chrack's and Criskelo are very good fully customizable rooms. They come with Aroma installation to let you remove a lot of bloat ware before installation.
Touchwiz roms also have the best kernels around. Like Note core and Speed mod. These give a very significant improvement in speed n battery. Of course cyanogen based roms r good. But the prob is u will be lacking some native drivers Samsung has integrated into the roms for the best performance. For ex, divx support is there by default, NTFS file format for SD card can be achieved, better drivers for display n graphics etc.
Touchwiz roms can crush cyanogen roms in benchmarks as well. Cyanogen can seem very smooth and fluid. But with the right launcher (apex or nova) u can easily give the rom a stock ICS feel as well. Hope this helped. Cheers

The best ROM is the one that works best for you on your phone. Try a few out and decide for yourself.
And posts like this never belong in Development.

[Q] Which firmware?

Hello,
I'm thinking about installing a custom firmware on my 4X HD, but am unsure which one to go for. My priorities in order are:
1) Stable and fully functional.
2) Game performance
3) Battery life.
4) Easy to install.
Can anyone suggest which firmware I should install? Currently I am running the stock ICS firmware, as I have heard bad things about the official 4.1 JB update.
Sorry man, to be honest every ROM has its pro's and cons, just read the threat and try
And beside the ROM you got a kernel top who has influence on battery an stability
So my opinion (yes its a lot of work) read and try.

Stock ICS. You didn't want to update to Jelly Bean?
I got my Optimus 4x back yesterday after sending it for repair. It got sent with JB,came back with ICS
It's now been bootloader unlocked, rooted and installed Optimus Prime kernel. I did leave the standard ROM on there.
I'm just leaving it like that for the time being and seeing how the performance is.

You should install CM 10.2 and Optimus Prime kernel. It has best battery life/performance.It is good for gaming (doesn't lag in most games)But if you want to OC GPU , which increases performance a lot considering we have it on 416 mhz default, go for werewolfJB.I have underclocked my CPU to 1.4 ghz, OCd my GPU to 600 mhz on 1325 mV.Also undervolted my CPU by -65 mV.Optimus prime is a pretty good kernel, but it has 520 mhz max for GPU clock and it isn't enough in some games, atleast for me.You'll need to check anykernel topic if you are to install these kernels as they won't work in CM 10.2 unless you download them from that topic.
Click thanks if I helped

Hence why I ordered my requirements. Stable and fully functional is my top priority. Taking account only the roms that are stable and fully functional, out of those, which have the best gaming performance (my 2nd in the list)? Out of those that remain, which have the best battery life? And if we still have more than 1 option at this point, which is easier to install?

This is too close to a "Best ROM" thread. Just try different ROMs for yourself and judge them based on what you find. Other people's opinions are subjective and may not be the same as yours.

Furthermore, it's not only a matter of "best ROM" (ie.: rules) it's the fact that this is not a ROM supermarket, and people are here because they like to develop and make experiments. Even if I have the greatest respect for all the users, I would not trust anybody "selling" me a rom like a vendor based on experiences that are not mine. One should get in the spirit of the forum to really apreciate it. If one does not, all he is going to get is just a lot of frustration, and being told what is good and what is not would be of no help at all.
So lets set him on fire and dance around him since that will change everithing."Best rom/s theads are not alowed on this forum so go into roms threads that you like and read about them.If you like it then flash it and test it.Have a nice day." That is what people shuould write.

Thanks for the advice everyone. While I would usually jump at the opportunity to read around on forums, and even better to try installing several various ROMS to try them all out (this is the kind of thing I used to do a lot a few years ago), I unfortunately have very little time these days for such things due to personal and work responsibilities, which was why I thought someone with a lot more knowledge about all the available roms might be able to shoot a suggestion or 2 my way to at least narrow the scope. Since that kind of thing is not allowed I'll just take a look at the couple of roms that people suggested, or potentially just stick with the stock rom for now.
If there is CM rom on jelly bean stable(I don't know- never tried) i would go for it. If there is not i would go for stock ics with custom kernel.

Recommend me a ROM

Hello XDA
I know there is no such thing as the best ROM but I was hoping to do a little cheating and save my self some reading and get some opinions on what would fit me the best.
I use my phone as a business phone and thus my battery is dying constantly. I got ALOT of SMS and my phone is constantly slowing down. I want something that won't seem like a old device.
I want to root to install a new ROM and battery tweaks. Here are my requirements:
MUST be stable
Smooth
Good battery life
I want something I don't have to constantly tweak. With my note 4 I essentially changed so much that at the end it became such a nuisance trying to keep modding etc. I want to set this up and forget about it, unless needed.
Thanks !
Use Paranoid Android 7.2.1
Vertex OS

I understand where you are coming from, but from a practical point of view, if someone recommended a ROM, you may find your experience different from theirs. Happens all the time. Second, it's a good idea to read first. I just got this phone. All I have done is read threads here at xda. Not even so much ROMs, but reading about the phone. This step alone has saved me from myself in the past. Makes it easier to troubleshoot problems.

I agree. I have tested enough roms to conclude that for the 3T there's no point in trying to find something better than stock
Perhaps only something purely based on oxygen os, but more debloated, like freedomOS
basically it doesnt matter, 99% is all placebo.
TugaPower is out-of-box really good, which is LineageOS with some small mods (Viper4Android Audio mod ie.)

I guess stock is the best choice here for you. It has no additional battery hungry features like viper but is still stable. You may consider flashing a kernel instead and I would hardly recommend you to read into them since that's the best way to get to know to new kernels.

I would say oos..if u want a flawless stock experience with better battery life, use freedom os..
I personally use oos open beta 12( rooted with magisk) with elemental x kernel..it gives me good battery and flawless performance..apps like substratum and viper 4 arise works fine..
Thanks for all the replies. I tried out RR and had an issue with the WiFi dropping - since this was a business phone I decided not to flash a custom ROM. I am now on OOS open beta, the latest one. Loving the parallel apps feature!
Now to get into theming and modding. I've got the basics down already like greenify, BBS.
Any recommendations on rooted apps? What have I missed in the last year or so
