[Q] reboot recovery results in arm9 - Samsung Galaxy Mini

hi,
I am user of:

ANDROID 2.3.6S5570XWKT82.6.35-7-perf-CL1180629[email protected]#1GINGERBREAD.XWKTU
have been playing with it and now I can not get into recovery boot.
when I try it (volume down + home + shutdown), it gets to ARM9 message and blocks.
only solution is to detach the battery and it works as normal.
what can I do to get into recovery mode?
thanks

Press only power+ home button

thanks!
I was thinking I have already tried on that way as well, but I guess I wasnt.
now it can enter in clockwork recovery mode, but it is reporting some mistakes like can not mount several files... backup was aslo unsuccessful.

you must be on stock rom

Of course he is on stock ROM, almost every SGM stock ROM use 2.6.35-7 Kernel with DELL host.

sorry i was to write this normal for stock rom
I think my mind was diverted somewhere else while writing

ok guys, I have flashed it with CM 10.1 and I still learn to use this menu.
however, I know this is not the place to ask, but...
I have started to play with my Mini only because it was out of internal memory and because, from time to time, it was playing by itself with touchscreen.
so, I have solved internal memory issue, but the touch screen started to make problems again.
what do you think, is it due to software or hardware problem?
thanks

[Q] Stuck in a bootloop... HAALPPPP!!!

Hi all,
I recently got a samsung i9000 after owning an htc desire for a while.... I was more than happy with cm7 on the htc so i rooted etc and installed it on my galaxy... but it seems that its a bit more buggy on the i9000 port and i had loads of force closes and my phone was pretty unusable... so i then used clockwork recovery to install what i believed was the correct version of darky's rom 10.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091) and now im stuck in a bootloop... when i turn it on for 'normal' use, the original GALAXY S logo comes up (the one that says SAMSUNG at the bottom of the screen.... then it switches to the GALAXY S logo with cyanogen(mod) underneath it, then it restarts and im back to the original SAMSUNG logo.
I've tried to enter download mode (vol down, home then power) and when i do this, it just restarts with the original logo in a loop until i let go, then the cyanogen(mod) logo comes up.
Ive downloaded kies and odin to a fresh machine, but when i connect the phone over usb, I get the litter circular timer icon lighting up my phone for a few seconds, then the cyanogen(mod) screen comes up for a few seconds.... and then reboots....
Anyone got a way out for me? ive been without a phone for a few days and its really hurting now!
So you can't get into download mode??, did you flash back to stock rom before flashing Darky's? Because with CM7 a froyo bootloader is needed, and with Darky's a GB bootloader is needed. If you can get into recovery, go to mounts and storage, format system, data, cache, and datadata. Then pull battery out and try getting into download mode again Vol down + home + power. Report back dude

No I'm afraid not, their are two other things you could try....using adb booting into download mode from their....or a jig....that will force it into download mode, u in the UK??

I guess you need a jig to get into download mode. after that, try to flash to different ROMs and see if you have fix the problem.
If you internal sd card is physically damaged, try this method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188482
Yep, Im in the UK.... I dont think the internal sd is damaged as it was fine before flashing darkies rom... Ive not used adb to try and force a 'download mode' before.... handy link to a tute?
sorry for my brevety, im quickly writing this at work!

[Q] [i9000] cyanobricked

Hi there,
I noticed I can't get in download mode anymore. Whatever I try it won't show the yellow triangular download sign. It just boots into cyanogen.
I have tried the 3 button trick but recovery nor download works. That's when I had the idea to apply the 3-button fix. adb reboot recovery brings me in the cwm recovery mode. adb reboot download just reboots the phone. I even tried the 300k ohm jig which always seemed to work as a failsafe. That also just boots the phone into cm.
I have checked with my brother who also runs CM nightly 101 and for him the download mode works fine so it is my phone, not CM.
The phone works fine now, is rooted too so I wondered if there's any way to fix this by rewriting the bootloaders. I want to have this fixed as a failsafe is flashing ever fails or if one of the nightlies gets corrupted.
Is there anyone who can confirm the download mode is in the primary bootloader (boot.bin from a stock rom) and is it safe to just flash_image that to the boot partition or will that be a guarantee to brick. The idea is that I still have root console access so I have to fix it from there.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Tried the tricks with and without pc-usb/charger and it made no difference. The 300k ohm jig trick can't be done with power or computer connected since you have to use the usb connection on the phone for it. It usually was my ever working failsafe.
I also tried the quickboot app without any luck. It seems it is responding to the download command but the code isn't there anymore.
Hey try going into download mode by touch controls although I haven't ever used cyanogen but i assume as every custom rom has this feature cyanogen must also have this! The download mode option in quick network options when u press the power button for 2 seconds ! Although it isn't safe but you cab try this and then if it goes into download mode then their must a way to go into download mode manually!

Holding the power button for two seconds indeed brings up the profile/reboot/shutdown options. Selecting reboot only gives two additional options, reboot and recovery which do as they say. I can boot cwm recovery but from there I can't go into download mode either.
Try downloading terminal emulator and then reboot download or ADB reboot download

Tried it from the terminal with reboot download. Also tried adb reboot download long before that. It just reboots and starts. I have the feeling the piece of bootblock that's holding the download mode isn't there anymore.
There is an option in recovery to boot into download mode, Have you tried that ?
It sounds to me like that part of the bootloader is corrupt / missing.
Does the phone still work normally ? can you still continue to use it daily without the download mode option ?

The phone works fine otherwise. I just want to fix this before it stops working fine and I need the download mode.
Recovery boots into CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.5 which I got with CM7 with no option to return to the stock recovery or download mode as far as I can see. Also zipped updates from sd-card install fine from CWM recovery mode. If I just knew where to find a cwm ready zipped bootloader that will fix this.

Thats a good idea, I think that should be made, Would save a lot of hassle...
In my recovery under 'advanced features' the option is there to reboot into android or reboot into download..
In order to go from CM7 - Stock, do you need re-partition with all 3 files ? or can you flash it through recovery ?
If so, flash it to stock and sell it to someone who has no idea about Custom ROMs / Hacking. (like me 12 months ago )
EDIT: is this issue not kernel related by any chance ?

Well I have no clue to make any package and I don't dare to flash_image some random boot.bin.
My recovery -> advanced only has reboot recovery which brings it back into recovery.
I'm afraid bringing it back to stock also needs odin/heimdall, that brings me back to the initial problem.
Selling it gives me the money for half a new phone. As long as its working fine I'd like to stick with it. My worst case scenario so far is that I'm stuck with CM7 nightly #101 for the coming 1.5 year which is annoying but far better than the slow stock samsung hands out.
The issue can't be directly kernel or CM7 related. My brother has CM7 #101 running and download mode works fine with him. (And no I can't secretly swap phones ) He doesn't know how to work with odin so I arranged everything for him. Exactly the same steps as I did my own phone. Perhaps a glitch in flashing or something.

Hmmm... tricky one to fix..
I have no more ideas i think flashing bootloaders through recovery would work like you said, But unless its a tried and tested method i wouldnt recommend it at all.
Have you posted this issue in the CM thread ? perhaps you could PM one of the Devs for assistance, or whether the whole 'flashing bootloader in recovery' idea would work at all.
You have nothing to lose by asking them.
Hope you get a solution... But until them im out of ideas.
Keep us updated if you get a fix.
Good luck man !!
EDIT: one more idea, Sounds risky but.... What if you made a nandroid backup on your brothers phone and restore it on yours ?? Thats if nandroid does back up bootloaders im not sure

Thanks for thinking with me. I'll give the nandroid solution a go if there are no other replies within a reasonable time.
I'll post the same question in the CM forum but contacting the CM devs could be hard. They don't give any official support to nightlies and I can't say I'm convinced it has anything to do with CM at all. Though they do have the knowledge to answer the question or build a package to repair it. But you're right there's nothing to lose in asking.
Ofcourse I searched the forum before posting and found out I seem to be the only one ever with this problem. The solution could be as rare so I'll keep you posted if I make any progress beside here. That's what the whole idea behind this forum is for right?
True man !!
And if you get a solution or a dev to make a flashable bootloader. It could help other people in future
Good luck. Keep us posted

Interesting but that project still needs a bricked i9000 to tear apart. I don't have a captivate. Well if it ever becomes really bricked I'll consider donating mine.
And I'm okay with handling computers (yes I consider the phone a small computer about 400 times faster than my first pc) but when actual soldering is involved I give up.
fixable?
i have a samsung here the S GT I 9000 and i tryed to use odin on it and now this pops up every time i try to up load an os

Hi! If it still doesn't work, try downloading ROM Manager from the market and install the latest CWM. It sounds like your bootloader got modified/locked.

You have to try the software smartflash, with that you will return to the stock rom! Are you sure that you can not get into Recovery? In recovery you enter by pressing the power button and volume -!!
i have this, it keeps going LG. off on LG. off on?
just take out battery. put battery in. while pressing POWER + VOL DOWN.
it will boot into CWM. well should. Only way i got out of it. or i would have rage thrown fone at wall.
I have done that but doesnt help..... I did install smart flash and it says flash successfull but still gets stuck at LG Logo..... This is some weard ****.... plz help

i had another problem ontop of this. (bad baseband and ril) meaning the battery was like charging then saying 98% then saying 3% then no wifi no sdcard(ext) etc. i was like NOOOOOOOOOOO... battery draining super fast. phone heating up. then i emergency try to re flash. (have no access to put files on sd card) re flashed the only zip on the sd card (lucky cm9) which has aroma launcher, enable me to do a FULL WIPE. then once into CM9 (after it freezes on boot screen (animation) for like 2 minutes. furioiusly pressing buttons wondering if batt is going flat, get into menu. hold power force reboot into recovery mode. (sometimes its really annoying to get into recovery cause hold to long reset/reload no recovery. sometimes easier to hold power in boot into recovery via PHONE CM9 loaded.
i figured out it was the kernel was making my baseband read as UNKNOWN even tho it could tell me the version. ha. only fix was to do a full wipe.
the problem you probably have is. NO WAY TO PUT ANY OTHER ROM/STOCK onto SD CARD cause you have no other device with USB MASS STORAGE SD CARD???
if you can do that, then your ok.
if you cant then you need to go into cwm.
do a restore. if you have a backup. if the backup is ext3 and you have used ex4 roms like CM7/9 then the recovery will fail. and you will still be bad...
try doing in CWM recovery (full wipe/reset/cache/dav etc) ? silly question im sure you would have tried everything.
hmm. the only solution is to get another ROM (ext4) unless u can get backtoext3.zip.
you need the files on the SD CARD.. then you should be ok . right?
Try booting into recovery and wiping the dalvik cache and the other caches maybe?

[CM9][ICS] SAMSUNG Galaxy S GTi-9000 CyanogenMod 9 nightly 28.06.2012 issue

Hi,
I installed the new version of CyanogenMod 9 Android 4.04 Version Nightly from 28.06.2012 at my Samsung Galaxy S GTi-9000 and went into vacation. Everything works well and all new things are stable.
One day, a week before we left, the phone does end the navigations NAVIGON software by itself automatically and after it it was okay. Then next morning after a restart the phone starts / resets itself everytime, so there is only now the downliad mode available and no recovery mode.
The phone starts with the the Samsung screen and then the CM 9 screen shortly, then it takes some time , CM in loading and the the reset/restart automatically.
Also there is no correctly loading available, the phone is connected via usb and the loading screen starts and the the phone resets and everything starts again.
Has anybody expieriences with something like that and knows how to handle and to save all the photos?
Thanks for the help.

If you installed CM9 , you will have recovery, if you dont know how to get there, thats another thing. Power off your phone. Press Vol Up + Home Button + Power on and you ll get into recovery. there you get into "mount and ..." and then "mount sd card" .. then you can backup everything on your internal card...

Do you know how to use Odin? If not here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14273101&postcount=1
You can instal kernel (recovery) that way and then instal ROM.
Just flash newest Semaphore kernel via Odin (*.tar file), maybe it will boot properly or at least, you'll get into recovery (semaphore automatically gets your phone into recovery when in bootloop)
Hey
When i usually faces issues like this..i just downgrade my phone to 2.3.6 via odin...and root it the same way...i have not lost any data placed in my internal sd card when flashin roms through odin..
So i think you can give it a try too..

It's a bad advice. Indeed, sometimes flashing stock via Odin keeps all data on internal memory. But not 100% of the time. It is not right solution for that.
Topic starter, you should try to flash a kernel via odin (try semaphore or devil for CM9) as it was advsed before. Also you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802778 (I can say nothing about this but at least it worth trying).

Ace won't turn on.

OK... so a couple of days ago a friend of mine screwd my phone when he tried to install clockwork recovery without rooting, I was stuck at Samsung logo, no recovery, only download mode... so today after going through tons of threads so I could use Odin with ace on win8.. I finnaly managed to un**** it... so I could re**** it again... so I followed this thread after reviving the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
After rooting and instaling cw, I tried to install a ROM on it, namely nightly cm (found somewhere here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188679)... I got a status 7 error cause of the assertion, which in removed, after successfully installing the ROM (or so recovery mode said) I tried reboting and it no longer turned on. Doesn't seem to charge and it won't boot...
The only things I can think of that i did wrong were:
Having under 50% battery life
Not removing sim card
PS: also before installing ROM I cleared caches and reset to fact. Settings
Any ideas on how to fix this? If not, what did I do wrong here?
EDIT: ok so i think i figured out what i did, i wanted to download this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199575 ... i went to the "external webstie" to download, and i think i downloaded this rom "android cm_skate-userdebug-cm-10.2 (stable)" which it seems its not for my phone :S ...
Is it possible to boot into download mode now? would a usb jig work? something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8822843&postcount=1
Or is it a lost cause?
Thanks...
PS: oh god, to think i removed the assertion that was saving my phone... ahh **facepalm** , why didnt i read the damn assertion...

Thanks for the answer, i know the "shrotcut", as i said in the op i used odin allready, but the big issue is the phone does not react to the power button, idk what the rom i installed did, if its bricked or if its just expecting a different input rather than the supposed power button, in which case the jig should work...
