Hello mates, this is my first time ever posting on the forums, so feel free to call me a newb
So here's my problem. I have been using [JZO54K]_android_4.1.2_v5_oficial_stock_rom on my samsung I9000 for a while and was quite satisfied with how it was working, but I always had a problem with the camera not focusing properly on the moment when a picture is taken. So I decided it's maybe time to try out CM 10.1 (i usually stay away from CMs because i had problems with it freezing or being slow or rebooting without me doing anything on it) hoping it would be a good and smooth experience. So I followed the thread and the instructions precisely (it's not my first time flashing a rom, by any stretch of the imagination). Everything went well, signed in with my google account, google play started restoring my account to the phone, installing the apps and so on and suddenly it stopped. The wifi icon turned from blue to gray, which i know means that it's not getting a connection. So i reset my router, connected to the secondary router in my home and still a gray icon. All my computers in the home work fine, so it's not an internet connection problem. My data plan is out of mb's, so that's noot gonna be an option for me.
So, then i tried opening the browser on the phone, keeps trying to connect, doesn't get anywhere. So i decided to go back to my original rom and guess what? I have the same exact problem. So i tried flashing and reflashing both for a few times, got tired of it. Tried factory reset from the phone's menu, tried clearing everything, all caches, dalvik cache, nothing worked. So i'm stuck with a phone with no internet connection over wifi.
If anyone else had this problem, please help. Obvious stuff will not help me, as I know my way around the block, not that new to this. But i have already tried all the stuff you would get on a google search (like checking if sync is on or opening youtube and all that other stuff)
Thanks in advance, in the mean time, i will be flashing the stock rom with odin and gradually upgrade back up to probably elite's rom.
I've also added a screenshot with my baseband and all that info

So i have just flashed 2.3.6 using ODIN, having the same problem. Will connect to wifi, all internet applications can't get a connection. (and yes, i did check the date and time, in case someone was wondering)
So i have managed to figure out and solve the problem. it wasn't actually an issue from the phone. i tethered another device and managed to get a connection with wifi. it was an actual issue with the way my routers are set up. i have a main router that broadcasts a certain DHCP which is connected to another router that just acts as a bridge. the main router broadcasts in an ip range of 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199 and the secodary router (which i connect to using my phone) that acts as a bridge, usually, if it were not configured to act as a bridge, it would broadcast in ip addresses ranging from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.199; both routers broadcast a different SSID, btw. so the main idea is that, any device that would get an internet connection in the house should have an ip address in the format of 192.168.0.xxx, and this is where the interesting part comes in.
after flashing and reflashing a few times, i started looking into the settings for the wifi on the phone and noticed that it was picking up an ip address of 192.168.1.66. the possible explanation would be that the main router might have stopped broadcasting the DHCP to the secondary one, and the secodary one decided to give it an ip address, hence the 192.168.1.66. but this still doesn't explain why even after reflashing the phone a few times, it still kept the same ip address, which is not suppose to happen, and even if i tried to connect directly to the main routers' SSID, it would still give an ip address of 192.168.1.66.
anyway, managed to get it working, finally decided to go back to elite's rom (after benchmarking on CM10.1, i noticed i get lower scores than what i would get on elite's). and i wasn't suppose to hard reset the phone, i was suppose to hard reset the routers, change the SSIDs on both which is easier and faster to do that anything on a phone.
I don't think that this would apply to anyone else, i guess it was just a freak accident in my home, but hey, if you ever get problems like the one i had, you might want to look into your routers as well

Hi all
My head's getting a bit sore from banging it against a brick wall while trying to sort my phone out, and I was hoping someone might be able to help me.
I did a ROM flash to Dutty's latest about 1 month ago, and all worked fine. At some point afterwards, I did *something* (possibly running the Connection Setup Wizard - don't ask!), and I lost the ability to get internet transfers over Orange (UK) - mail would just tell me it can't retrieve the messages (check the settings blah blah), and Opera just gave me a Network Error page.
Now, I've chatted with Orange lots, deleted all connection settings and played around with various settings and I'm pretty confident I have that right. On demand (i.e. starting mail or Opera), I can see the session establishment (i.e. the arrows moving over the G or 3G or H marker on the title bar), and the Data Connection indication is set in Comms Manager, but I still can't get transfers.
Note that I have since reflashed the same ROM a couple of times, and both times I have successfully had the internet working for up to about 2 or 3 days, then it goes again. When it does go, I get the Database Update Check appearing almost every time a session is established. I originally put the patch in place to stop this happening, but was worried that might be causing the networking problems so didn't since reflashing the rom this latest time.
WiFi works OK - I'm using a static IP address but I don't think this is causing a problem with GPRS/3G comms.
So, I'm thinking there might be some setting on the phone that I keep changing somehow (not intentionally) which is breaking the routing between Orange and Windows.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm losing it a bit here, as it used to work fine all the time and now it seems to just stop!
Cheers for any help
Rich
Soft Reset
Does a soft reset fix your problem?
I get this from time to time, i soft reset and all is ok again.
I also get orange safeguard on some sites every now and then even though its switched off.
Nope, once it's gone it's gone. Very strange. Still trying to figure this out, as it's driving me nuts!
Still, it's a good excuse to try out some different ROMs!

SOLUTION
If anyone's interested, I found a solution to this and I thought I'd share it.
The problem is due to an issue with 2.03 ROM as far as I can tell (I had Dutty's v4 on the phone) and static ip address on WiFi.
IF you use static ip over WiFi, then when you enter the ip address etc for the WiFi network adapter, it appears to try and use these settings on the GPRS connection too. This is why, when I spoke to Orange, as far as they were concerned everything was working OK.
So, the session establishes to Orange, then I request a page and it try's to use my DNS (192.168.1.1) to resolve the address - all goes wrong at that point. No web, no mail, nothing.
To solve, simply remove the settings from the WiFi adapter.
There may be a better solution to this, but I'm just happy I can have my phone back working again!!!

Hello, I kept on making a post for it until Iread everything that Icould but I can t solve this.
I have a Continental European G1, radio 1.3xxxx.2005, and the UK version.
My problem is that WiFi isn't working on any ROM, cyan (3-4 versions of it, the last months of ROM's made by him), SenseHero, KingxROM, Dwang, and mannnnnyy other ROM, I think I tested like 40-60 ROM releases in the last two months and Wifi hangs on all of them. There are times when market is loading after 1-2 minutes, but that's it, no app works over WiFi, Google Sync after a new install of a ROM worked, but that was it again.
I have e DLink DI-524 Wireless G router, standard Settings(tryed with upnp enabled/disabled), w/o and with secured Wireless, it always detects the network, connects on it but it isn't working.
Another strange thing that happens:
Let's say that I have WAP2(PSK) protection on my router, I disconnect my G1 from it, remove the security, so now I have an open network, until restart my G1 detects my network in it's last state, protected. This is really pissing me off, I have 100mb free and 0.4Eur/10mb in my contract with Orange, but at home I would really like to use my wireless, e.g. to use Gmote and so on.
Does anyone has any idea?
THANKS A LOT!!
Is this a problem with your network or all wifi connections?
I had the same problem
After flashing more roms than I can count to try and see if I could get wifi to work. Even unrooted and went back to stock then back to rooted and still had no luck. I finally called my carrier and talked to there tech department and they said it was probably a hardware issue. I have since had it replaced under warranty. Sorry but I'm pretty sure its the hardware so no matter what rom you flash it won't work
This can't be real, hardware problem? I bought the phone from a friend from France, because here in Romania I would have to pay double for it at my carrier, so no warranty for me...
Does anyone else has the same problem??
Yesterday I tested SenseHero 's latest ROM, I act. WiFi and Google sync'ed but twitter won't.... I hope it's solvable, I started collecting logs, I see in my router that the phone connects through very weird ports to different sites on internet, have to look into that, sorry for grammar mistakes, not native english and writing from my g1. Bye
Twitter sync have always been an issue. It should work after a few tries. I have wifi hangs a lot too, and I dont have a data plan either.
if you can post a logcat, it would help us pin down the issue
I was in the process of creating my first theme(YIPPIII), but I will test it right now. IT's coming.
EDIT: Here is the log, so, during a 5 minutes time, I started wifi, and tryed to search xda on google, anyhow, that can be seen in the log and then tried to download a app from the market.
Hope it helps, I'm really stuck.
THANKS!!!
Does nobody knows smt? this thread is sitting here a while now, should I try reflashing everything? maybe the problem is in the "lower layers of hardware" , radio, spl???
Sorry i couldnt find too much in that log (its a little long and im usually sleepy)
but it seems as though its not routing properly
it seems to be connecting to the internet, but not routing. Do you have DNS settings on your router?
My router connects through PPPoE and the WAN connection has some DNS's but that shouldn't count, those DNS's are the routers problems, the internet 'thrown' in LAN and WiFi should be and it is without any dns's and such.extremely weird...
Had my phone for a few months now and recently found that it can't connect to my secure network at home.
When I turn wifi on I get the dreaded connect/disconnect message while it constantly tries to connect to my network. If I leave it on then the battery will drain overnight while the phone tries to connect. I have an iphone which connects to the network no problem. As does my laptop etc
To try to fix this I deleted all my new apps, especially the push ones which give me news updates, etc but this has made no difference.
The weird thing is if I turn off my router's security then the phone will connect and works perfectly fine. I've tried using all the different security settings (even WPS) with new passwords etc and everything seems to setup fine on the phone except it just doesn't want to connect (or more accurately stays connected for a microsecond).
If I go back to an open network it connects immediately and stays connected.
I think this is the root cause of the wifi connection problems that many other people are getting. But I'm at a loss to try to understand why it won't pick up a secure network but works fine otherwise.
My phone is using 2.2.1 and has been rooted
Any thoughts?

Root the problem highly unlikely ..
Secure home network test .
Remove security from Router that is no password .
Remove that connection from phone .
Reboot phone let it pick up router and connect .
If it does then delete reset router password and add in phone .

Thanks for suggested fix. I'll give it a go and let you know if it worked.
Root was a bad choice of word..... I meant that while looking for a solution to my wifi problem I noticed many other people complaining that they can't connect to a wifi network for one reason or another and I was thinking that maybe broken security is a common cause of many wifi connection issues.. In my case there was nothing physical at all to suggest that security was an issue, especially since all my other devices work fine on the same network.
Cheers
Hi, tried your suggestion but I still cant connect. The first time I rebooted the phone it knocked out my internet connection! I've setup a static IP address for my PC and the phone was insisting on trying to connect using the same address and creating a conflict. I fixed that so that's not the issue.
This is what I've tried..
I checked to make sure DHCP was enabled in the router, rebooted everything. No luck.
I tried adding an IP Address Reservation for the phone and assigning a dedicated static IP Address. No luck either
I tried connecting the device using WPS. It all went as it should - my router saw the device, added the mac address to the list of devices etc. The phone acknowledged the handshake. But again it still wont connect.
I checked the router log and it says "DHCP IP: (192.168.1.2)] to MAC address B4:07:F9:336:3D, Tuesday, May 24,2011 03:08:48" which I think is what it should say.
OK I've just fixed it!!! Or at least its connected.
All along I've been securing the network with WPA2-PSK. I just changed it to WEP and the phone connected immediately. I hadn't considered WEP because I read that its not that secure and I do all my banking etc through my PC.
I've tried all the other security options and only WEP works with the phone. I suspect its a compatibility problem between the phone and my router (a Netgear WNT834B v2) because both the phone and router work independently but not very well together. There's plenty of posts discussing the Galaxy S connecting to WPA networks so it can do it.
Now, after trying all the other security options. It won't connect again even on WEP. Bummer. It is acting slightly differently in that its trying to acquire an IP address instead of simply not connecting, although it doesn't seem to be able to find one.
I need to try this on a friends network and see if the router or the phone is to blame. I've no idea... but the phone's a bit too touchy for my liking
I had a similar issue, I had to reflash the ROM to get it to work. Backup all your contacts and stuff and then do a full factory resetting. See if that helps, if it doesnt, reflash the ROM. It should work.
Well I've spent the last few days looking into this issue and it's considerably more widespread than I first realised. The problem is that while many people have a wifi connection issue we all seem to have variations on a theme.
As I say in my case the phone will connect and stay connected to an open network but won't touch a secure one. I tried many suggested fixes and nothing's worked so I am now trying a factory reset.
A couple of questions: there appears to be two ways to do this, a factory data reset through the phone menu; and a hard reset using a combination of volume buttons, etc. The hard reset seems to be the deeper of the two.
When you say full factory setting which one did you mean? I am currently data resetting and therefore using the "authorised" Samsung reset
But how long does this process take? My phone has had a black screen and been vibrating every 10 seconds or so for the last hour. It's getting quite hot and there appears to be no end in sight. Has the phone hung or something? If it has how do I get out of this without bricking the phone? It's beginning to concern me because I'll have to do something real soon.
As an aside, in my search for a solution I found something that might help someone people (it didn't work for me). According to the bloke who posted it, the problem for everyone is that the wifi drivers have not been installed properly and if you enter *#*#526#*#* on your keypad it unlocks a service access that reinstalls the wifi driver. I tried it and the phone told me the software was installed successfully but no change.
Waited long enough so pulled the battery out and restarted the phone. I get the startup screen but after that the screen goes black and it vibrates again every ten secs and I can't get in.
Have to try the other reset.....
Things are going from bad to worse..
Have managed to start a full factory reset using the volume, power and home button but it's gone back into the black screen and vibrating every ten seconds.
I know Im going off topic here but Ive now reset the phone, wiped the cache, tried to apply the sd card update (aborted because it can't find the directory) and it always comes back to the black screen and vibrating every ten secs.
Am now trying to reflash the rom. Oden reports that the flash was successful but the phone wont reboot. I tried a couple of times - one with Re-Partion checked and the other unchecked but neither will reboot. What could be causing that? I somehow remember that my firmware was JPH but I could only get hold of JPK. Could that be the cause?
I seem to have solved all the issues at last. Thought it was going to be a bit over my head for a spell.
Once I discovered that the only way I was going to get into my phone was by flashing the rom the first problem I came across was I didn't know which firmware my phone was using previously, apart from the fact it was 2.2.1 and from Asia. I guessed wrongly and after "successfully" flashing the phone it wouldn't reboot. I then noticed that there were only three variations of the 2.2.1 firmware for my region. The second one I tried went a little further than the first but I got an error message about the SD card. The third one installed no problem.
So I instantly checked the wifi signal and the phone connected to the secured network. And stays connected - so far about an hour and a half.
It's amazing how the phone deteriorated the way it did. Hope it doesn't do it again.
Thanks for any help/suggestions
A few days ago I ran into a problem. My wifi wasn't connected when I turned on my tab 8.9. When I try to connect to my own network, and get into the settings page, the option 'ok' is greyed out. This means that I can only 'cancel', and in that way not connect to my own network anymore. The same thing happens when I try to connect to another network. My device is not rooted, running 3.2, and it is running the most recent firmware. Restarting the device didn't solve it. Any thoughts on this one?
Bump, same problem, or at least similar.
Android Version 3.2
Kernal Version 2.6.36.3 ([email protected] #1)
Build Number HTJ85B
Wireless works on some networks and not others. B G N do not matter, it is random. Still running stock ROM, not rooted. I have tried reseting OS, no luck.
What it does it it finds the network, tries to connect to the network, fails, remembers the network, and the cycle starts over.
Hi guys,
do you get the 'Obtaining IP address' message when connecting? mine does that constantly on some networks, it gets stuck in a loop and simply will not connect. I've found out that this is due to the tab remembering an IP address it used to use and trying to re-use it every time it connects. That is of course not always possible and so it tries - fails - tries etc.
The way to fix this apparently is to delete the dhcp_list file which holds the remembered IP addresses, only issue is that I cannot find that file anywhere. I'm running AOSP Galaxian Soup on mine with motley kernel, my home wifi works ok (probably because the same IP address is available all the time), work wifi doesn't want to work at all.
Maybe one of the devs sees this and can shed a bit more light on whether the solution is correct or not.
Regards,
dsc.
I was eventually able to solve this in a very easy way. for one reason or another the tab only wanted to log in when the password contained a capital, so I changed the WPA preshared key to something that contained a capital and a number and it was working again. very strange, because it had been working perfectly for about two months before this problem occurred. hope this helps.
Hi,
I managed to fix it by selecting static IP. I've seen this suggested a couple of times but when using the tablet in horizontal position I could see the static/dynami selection. Turns out you have to rotate the table to vertical position to see it.
Regards,
dsc.
Thanks for the discussion. my main problem is that i can't set a static at my work network. it will work at home, but i NEED it to work at both, otherwise it does me no good. I will keep banging my head against.
I will check back to see if smarter people come up with a solution, and if i come up with somthing i will post.

Hi,
not sure if you've seen this (I think the original solution comes from here anyway):
[tried posting an url but it was blocked, try googling:
'Tab cannot get IP address for WiFi problem + recs'
and scroll down to zakaria's post]
Some people suggest trying static, even if it fails it might delete the previously stored IP address that the Tab is trying to connect with and get a new one which should work. What I did was connected to the Wifi with my laptop, checked the IP/DNS details and after slight mods used it on the Tab. I did try setting the static to something roughly correct, connecting and reverting back to dynamic, but it wouldn't have it

dsc.

Have you checked with your work network whether or not it needs ca certificate?
or you could try to download wifi ace (advanced config editor) from the playstore, and set the settings from there
Hi everyone,
First of all I hope that I wrote in the right section, cause i cannot write on the developer section.Every time I activate the wifi, the connection with the router takes a long time to become stable, I mean, the smartphone starts to connect and disconnect to the wifi for 4/5 times before becoming stable, even if I have the maximum signal. Another thing is that when the smartphone is finally connected, if I try to open certain Web addresses with the stock browser or with chrome, on the address bar of the browser appears the Web address doubled itself,
Making impossibile to reach the website.
Those problems started when I rooted the phone and installed your rom, that basically is the only good one for the HTC, but I don't know how to solve this problem.
I tried reinstalling it, make an hard reset, but nothing is changed.
Do you know how can I solve this?
