I know what your thinking...why? Well for starters it is an IPS panel, Sony is going to be doing it in their newest Xperia Oh and the Nexus7 had their own apps for it! To me it seems only logical to explore it further. Can it be done? either at a kernal level in the future, or software that changes the rendering or color RGB. I'm very curious how close on the color spectrum they are!
Any help appreciated!:good:

There is an app in the extras screen that lets you set some screen preferences like white balance.
Sent with XDA Premium from my Nook HD+ running CM10 on SD
try these apps:

-or-

I prefer the first one and have used it extensively on my nook and my galaxy tab

After I said that, I discovered it was removed from later versions. Let me see if I can find it.
Edit: I was wrong, it was not removed. It only comes with the HD and is still there. It is named WhiteBalanceSetting.apk. But it does not come with the HD+. It also does not work on the HD+. I tried transferring it.

Hey your right! I see it now it was just hidden with the way I had my application drawer set. Now I just need to put some calibration videos on here and test these settings out.
How do launch white balance app, I can't see it any where. I am on nook HD sw ver 2.1.0. The sw is missing after the last ota update

Hello:
Its not too much of a hassle, could you please upload the white balance apk so i can sideload it to my HD? My tablet has a very deep warm tone that i would like to try to correct. I know that other apps exist on the play store, but they only change the color hue "superficially" which alters the device's true black color. I bought the Nook from eBay, and it automatically installed the update 2.1.0 which seems to eliminate the white balance app from some Nooks. I have looked everywhere (even found a site for nook developers), and its seems like a matter of luck; some tablets will keep the app, some will lose it. Returning the tablet is not really an option for me, because there are no B&N Stores on my state, so it would really help me if the apk is posted. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I kept looking and i was able to find a link to the app on another thread. I am not able to able to post links, but look in page 7 of a thread called:
" [Nook HD+] Touchscreen sensitivity experimentation (added GUI app on 07/06) "
I apologize to the developer (leapinlar) that i just bothered to request the file.
*Update*
I was able to successfully re-install white balance settings.apk to the Nook HD:
- When rooting the device, make sure to install the "Extras v3" zip file. This will allow the Nook HD to install apps from additional sources.
- You won't be able to install the app by just opening the file. The install button will not "react".
You will need to download ES File Explorer, go into Tools - Root Explorer and from there select: "One Key Install".
Click on the apk, and after the "Sucessfully Installed" message, you should have the app in your drawer.

CM7 doesn't work with youtube. I'm not sure what your intentions are, but you can't play videos until the problem with the dsp/audio code gets worked out. Fortunately, it seems they have the problem narrowed down, so when The Great One returns from spring break, he has said he plans to hit the ground running.

Delete the Youtube.apk from /system/app then just install YouTube from Market.
Also make sure you have Flash Player 10.2 from Market.
If you use the lastest version of CM7, YouTube works, but at only 15fps..
Hopefully, this will be fixed soon...

Our definitions of "working perfectly" are very different.
Also, it's my understanding that the Youtube app does not use flash. It streams an Mp4 or something for efficiency and hardware accel. The YoutubeXL app is really just a browser pointed at youtube's XL site and it uses flash (software accel)

Maybe they are and maybe not...what I am trying to say is that my youtube works perfectly...in HD...just as well as it does on my phone...I'm trying to figure out WHY. If it is truly working the way it's supposed to, I wanted to share what I had going. I know that the apk doesn't use flv....(My flash works fine, too, so maybe I accidentally did something right there, as well.) Does anyone know how to measure fps in the youtube.apk setting? Thanks.

Can't install YouTube or Google Apps CM7 SD Nook Color
When I go to the market, it displays these apps but there is no INSTALL or DOWNLoad button. It's missing from the app page. I have tried going to the developers page and the same thing happens. It's as if it doesn't recognize the NOOK Color when CM7 is running. Latest CM7 version was installed less than a week ago. NetFlix works however. Any ideas? Thanks.

Okay, this was very helpful and works with brand new installs and presumable updates as well. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm glad I can now see the Install buttons on many more applications.
The only problem I have now is that many of the videos on YouTube give me the following error when I try to load them:
"There was a problem while playing... Touch to retry." Retrying doesn't help. The same videos load and play properly using my big Windows 7 computer. Has anyone seen this error and has a suggestion for a fix?
Thanks again.
I'm running 3.0, preview 4, and I had a question about the long press. On every video online, the long press on the home screen allows you to go into a screen that has apps on the bottom, and a display of all your home pages on top. In addition, there's a while boarder around each home page (that you can see when you scroll). Not only do I not have the thin white line boarder around the pages, but when I long press, it acts like 2.2 where it gives you a menu for widgets, shortcuts, etc.
What do I need to do to get the long press option everyone else has? Is that launcher pro, or am I just simply overlooking a simple setting?
Thanks everyone.

Sounds like you are describing the stock launcher, which I use. I am not sure if it is different with deeper blues build, if that is what you are running. I am running HC on emmc version 2. I thought the two were basically the same, however.

What's weird is I have the same version as this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CEC0fcfbpM
...and yet, I don't have the +apps button on the top right, nor the boxes around each home screen which can be seen when he swipes between them, or the long press widget screen. It almost feels like mine acts more like Froyo with a pretty layer of HC on top. To confirm, mine is Deeper Blue's Preview V04.

Same stock launcher that I have. You may try to reinstall the Rom with a new image.
Do you know good instructions here to download a version of 3.0 that installs internally and that's over clocked but has the launcher shown above? (IE: yours)?

So, if I read your post correctly, are you saying you now want to go with Honeycomb with an internal build, to the eMMC?
If so, then you need to check out samuelhalff's thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947071
I have been running that build since it first came out and loving it.
Sam's build will give you the stock launcher you see in the YouTube video you posted earlier. You should have also gotten that with the SD build from deeper-blue, but I have never run that version of HC, so cannot verify with certainty.
If any issues, you can always PM me and I will help you where I can (from a user perspective, not dev).
Good luck!
Quick question. I'm trying to over clock my 3.0 HC system, and in the instructions on Androidtablets.net says I need to find a program called Rom Manager to boot from. Where is this? I can't find it.
EDIT: Ok I'm dumb, it's an app... just trying to get it to install successfully. Thanks for dealing with a noob .
Ok, I'm trying to put clockwork recovery on there (since I didn't understand I needed to do that.. duuuhhrrrrrr). I downloaded the zip file, and put it on my SD card. I booted up Rom Manager, and hit Flash Clockworkmod recover. Then clicked Nook (old). However, it says 'An error occurred when attempting to run privileged commands!'.
Did I miss a step somewhere? Hopefully this is a slightly less embarrassing question . Thanks!
After reading some positive reviews and seeing a video showing it working on a TouchPad running Android, I decided to buy DeadSpace. I made the purchase through market.android.com, but I can't download it because the Market app says it's not compatible with my device. Does anyone have a recommendation for how to download this game now that I've bought it? Can I change the device ID or something to make the market think my TouchPad is something that is compatible?
Thanks!

Actually this did work for me and I was able to download the game. I did have to clear cache on Market and clear data on Google Services Framework, then reboot, but once I did, it showed up. I had to perform these steps on my Nook Color back in the day as well...
So now that it's installed, the game starts and says it needs to download 300+MB. I tell it to do so and it immediately shows an empty dialog with only an "Exit" button, after which it exits. I can't get past that. Any ideas?
Also, I installed Chainfire3D and the Nvidia plugin. Is that necessary? Is that correct for the TouchPad? Is there any other configuration that I should do for this to work well?
Thanks much for the help!
You could try the other plugins powervr or qualcomm
Glad you were able to get it downloaded. Not sure on the download issue though.
If you have another supported device you could try downloading the files on it and moving them over - or see if someone has posted the sdcard files somewhere.
Have the exact same issue with Dead Space. Asphalt 6 HD works like a charm though. I'm looking for answers but I get the same response.... wash, rinse, repeat (wipe, clear cache, repeat thrice...)
Haven't tried doing the 3-peat yet. If anyone else has and has achieved success after having the same issue with this game, let us know!

Success! Took a while though.....
So I updated my build.prop to the Pyramid device... (sorry, no link where I found that, but GT-i9100 should do fine too). Then I side loaded the main apk like suggested in previous threads. Then I copied the root folder from my Evo where I already had it installed to my PC and transferred the folder to my TP like it was already fully installed.
From there it still said my device wasn't supported, so I installed the powervr plugin for chainfire3d, used in-app settings through chainfire.
Here's where it got weird: I kept getting the same error over and over of my device not being supported. Then my wifi connected and when I ran the game, it immediately searched for an update. Apparently it found one! Suddenly I'm up and running, smooth as silk.
Now gonna try Real Racing 2!

Anyone know a solution for this? I'm getting the same issue. I'm running Jensen 2.8 lite with the buildprop changes and also installed chainfire3d with all the pluggins. No go
Okay, I used my Nook Color to download the data, transferred that back to the TouchPad, and launched it successfully. When it starts rendering 3D, though, it's all white with no textures. What Chainfire3D settings are folks using on the TouchPad that work?
I have read somewhere to use the following option for chainfire 3D as this is the GPU-manufacturer:
qualcomm
it may be worth a try.

Yeah, I've tried all three plugins with the various options enabled and disabled. No go. Has anyone gotten this going with A3.5? Between this and the lockups in Currents and other Webkit apps, I'm strongly considering going back to the previous alpha.
Okay, I finally got this working. I moved back to A2.1 which didn't actually fix anything (though it does seem to have resolved the lockups in Webkit-based apps like Google Reader and Currents, though they're not as smooth when they're working), but then I purchased the full version of Chainfire 3D and launched Dead Space using per-app settings. Suddenly it worked perfectly! I don't know why that would make a difference...perhaps I just didn't know how to use the free version. Either way, $4 is a small price to pay for the added flexibility of the full version of Chainfire 3D, and of course now I have a working, silky smooth Dead Space! Woohoo!
UPDATE: Okay, I know the magic incantation now. This works under A3.5 (and therefore presumably XRON) just fine if you use the PowerVR plugin in ChainFire 3D. I didn't have to reduce texture quality or anything else, just set the plug-in to PowerVR. I hope this helps others get this really nice looking game going on their TouchPads!
Hey everybody,
i know there alot of nook users that use Read it Later (Now called "Pocket").
Since they changed to the new name it cant be installed on your nook from the android market.
i think they discontinued the android 2.1 support.
I have opened a ticket at their support system to get it back on the nook
If you want this too or just want to help me to get it back,
please leave a reply on the ticket
http://support.readitlaterlist.com/...android-21-for-older-devices-or-ebook-readers
Thank You!
Could you pull the necessary files from a Nook that has ReadItLater currently installed?
Failing that, I would email 'Pocket' support and ask for the application. You might get it. It was available publically only hours ago, how strict could they be?
i have thought about that too (add the files here) but i only have the pro version.
I dont think its allowed to publish the apk from a paid app ?! but i dont know, if iam wrong correct me
Yes it now requires 2.2.
Although it never worked properly on my nook anyway. Had some serious scrolling problems. When scrolling down by swiping the screen it would often move in the wrong direction. I had the same problem with the IHT app by the way.
Have a look at the Readability thread in this forum. Maybe that is for you. Its what I am doint at the moment.

Wasn't going to complain too much not to get the "pocket" rebrand since readitlater was still working fine... but now it isn't. Can't download any of my articles (though it can see they are there). They must have changed the system to no longer be compatible with the old version.

Free registration at instapaper.com, free app. from google market "Read later for Instapaper" (author Capone) plus official bookmarklet from instapaper.com for browser which adds current page to the reading list. I almost happy with this solution.
Cons: no images, font is horrible and i see no way to change it, you need to refresh the list manually to download new articles, don't use full screen mode because it will hide options button at the top of your nook. Cheers

Capone's "Read Later for Instapaper" has been removed from the Google Play store. Presumably because it no longer syncs (the spinner spins, but makes no progress) and if you clear data and try to set it up again, the (correct) username and password aren't accepted. Presumably Instapaper have blocked it from logging into an account that doesn't have a $1/month subscription attached (the API is only open to third-party apps if the account does so). The official paid Instapaper app doesn't require the subscription, but requires Android 2.3.3.
Has anyone got a copy of an older version of the official Instapaper app that still runs on Android 2.1?
EDIT: I've found Laters which works on Android 2.1 on the Nook, so I think I'll switch back to Pocket.
I read today that Pocket is now available for the Kobo reader. May be is it possible to use the kobo version on our NST?

There is an option to increase or decrease the text size in the menu when reading Push Text Style on the menu. You can also choose Article view or full web page view in th options.
Readitlater seems to be the best option right now. It is possible to scroll with the nook buttons by enabling "Volume rocker scrolling" in the Readitlater settings. You have to go into Nook Touch Mod Manager and set your hardware buttons to Volume up and Volume down, but fortunately the keys still work fine in reader apps when set like this.
Newer version
This is the 1.3 version. I 've tested it, it works pretty good and has the "volume rocker" option too. Only minus is that if you map hardware keys to volume up and down, while they work well with read it later they don't work with stock reader
Also sometimes you swipe to scroll down but it scrolls up (weird bug..)

Just got my Nook HD+ 32GB today - very excited to put CM on it!
I'd like to hear opinions/recommendations on which version I should try first. I'm mostly interested in stability, but I also wish to have the latest'n'greatest.
CM-10.1.3-RC2 -or- CM-10.2-20130914-NIGHTLY ?
Try cm10.2. If you feel it unstable, try cm10.1.3.
Sounds like a good strategy. I'll give CM 10.2 a try first.

The dalvik dump tweak which allowed the Kindle App to work in 10.2 is in 10.1.3-RC2. Some are still reporting issues, but defiantly a minority.
Just a quick update:
I installed cm-10.2-20130915-NIGHTLY-ovation and the gapps, and so far it's been running very well for me. Chrome occasionally crashes, and I've experienced a few hiccups relating to WiFi, Bluetooth, and the nav menu button. But overall I'd say it's pretty stable.

The one you are running. There is an easy fix for Kindle. Just set the heap size to 384M in /system/build.prop.

What is the downside of increasing the heap size?

The 2 apps that cause occasional crashes for me are Playstore, when updating apps and stock browser, with tab with video graphics. Chrome was a problem that I abandoned.
Crashes are spontaneous reboots. I also get rare incidents of screen having no sensitivity to touch but the hardware keys remain functional. I have to shutdown and restart when that happens. The browser is active when that happens too.

Guess I'll need to figure out how to edit that file. I know what it is and have edited other system files, but so far not that one! Are there any downsides to setting the heap size to that? If not, any reason you can think of why it isn't that way by default? Hasn't this been an issue for a while now?
I'm not doing well with this build. I put 3 apps on it. Kindle didn't run, my sons "my math app" (free in the play store) doesn't display properly. Its supposed to put two numbers and a plus/minus/multiply/divide symbol and a total line. Puts the two numbers way apart and the sign in the middle of them, and its either showing part of the same problem off the bottom of the screen or its the next problem...didn't really look at it that hard. And the nfl sunday ticket app gave me bars around the video and wouldn't go into full screen mode. When I tried full screen, I had to tap the icon about 30 times, it did get larger but not full screen, then when I tapped it again it went to quarter size and was very resistant to going back to sort-of-full-screen.
Been running the stable 10.1-10.3 on my old 7" nook tablet for a while now with great success. Surprised to find this a little less 'stable' than prior stable CM releases.
I don't think the hdtv adapter picture size is fixed until 10.2 and given my results with display issues with other apps, does it make sense to just plow ahead to those or are the bricking problems I've seen here and there still a concern with those nightlies? Is one considered particularly stable vs the others? I ran 10.1 nightlies on the old tab for a while without any major issues cropping up.

The developer did just change the heap size to fix the Kindle problem. The problem now is Amazon keeps changing the app because other devices were having trouble too. My older version of Kindle works fine with the recently changed heap size, but the newest versions on Play Store don't work with it.

Thanks for the info. These things are always harder than they look.

It's a strange problem. The 0927 build has 402 heap. Kindle FC on my HD+. I increased to 480 and Kindle runs. I keep reading here that 384 works so I tried that. AND no FC.
Would build.prop in a folder, "storage/emulated/0/system/etc" work?

No. But you could try putting just that heap size line in /data/local.prop. Local.prop gets loaded after build.prop and for some settings can override the build.prop setting.
EDIT: I just tried that and it works. You can put this line in local.prop and it will override the build.prop setting. That means it will survive the flashing of a new ROM with other settings:
dalvik.vm.heapsize=384M

Handy tip for Nightly flasher.
As an FYI, I installed the 9/26 10.2 nightly since the info for the 9/27 and 9/28 wasn't particularly good. Kindle runs fine. NFL Sunday ticket works so far but I haven't tried it on a real game or tried the hdmi output yet to see if its formatted correctly. My Math App displays more correctly, with the numbers and signs showing up formatted correctly, although the seconds on the timer in the lower right corner are clipped off, you just see hours and minutes, but only part of the first two digits for seconds.
Didn't update gaaps, but everything that was on there was either updated or runs fine with what was on there. Tried chrome, play store, google search, etc. Everything ran but I didn't put them through an exhaustive test.
Just did the CM updater from 'about tablet' from 10.1.3 to the nightly and then told it to update. Thats it.

Alright, weird. As I mentioned above I installed the 10.2 9/26 nightly and it made most of my problems go away. However, under 'about tablet' it says android version is 4.2.2 and cm version is 10.1.3. Same as it was when I installed cm 10.1.3, yet my apps work now and they didn't before I did the update. Hmmmmm....

Alright...weird. I put the 9/26 nightly of 10.2 and the latest 10.2 gaaps on the sd card I made for the 10.1.3 install, booted into that, applied 10.2 and gaaps, everything looks good but kindle is back to FC'ing and the sunday ticket app still displays a 3/4 size image in the middle of the screen on the tv with the hdmi adapter just like 10.1.3 stable did. Thought that was supposed to be fixed in the later 10.2 releases. Doesn't appear to be, unless there's a magic trick. Full screen on the tablet, not on the tv.
Wondering what magical thing happened when I tried the in-place upgrade from 10.1.3 stable to 10.2 using cmupdate on the tablet, where it didn't actually go to 10.2 but the kindle app started working without editing anything or doing anything.

I'm running 10.1-20130813-NIGHTLY-Ovation on my Nook HD+ and I'm having very few issues. I had attempted to apply one of the 10.1.3 updates and it caused some apps to crash, so I switched back. I've not tried using HDMI out with it, though.
I have a Sandisk 32GB MicroSDHC Class 4 Memory Card that I have dedicated to holding the stable CM release (and accompanying CWM and GAPPS files) so I can always flash the HD+ to a known working state if something goes haywire. It also helped out when I bought an HD+ for the wife.
Cheers,

I had been running 10.1.something hybrid for the longest time on my Nook HD+, without any issues.
Yesterday I decided to go to 10.2.latest and now bluetooth is not working; I can not pair with Creative D-200 .....
Any ideas? (Apart from going back to 10.1.x ?)
Thanks,
A
