I brought a MHL to HDMI adapter and I do not get a picture from it with my i9305 LTE
When I connect/disconnect I get a toast message to say HDMI connected/disconnected. and the phone charges.
When I connect a i9300 phone to the HDMI adapter it works OK.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Some early ones (9300) are wired differently and our 9305 will not work
Is there a specific adapter for the i9305 or have they removed the functionality

11-pin MHL-HDMI Adapter/Dongle
The Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II use a connector that is similar to the original 5-pin MHL-HDMI adapter/dongle, but it uses 11-pins in order to achieve a few functional improvements over the 5-pin design.
It supports the use of USB and MHL simultaneously. (Note that the new Samsung 11-pin MHL-HDMI adapter also has a USB On-The-Go port).
Samsung’s Galaxy S III/ Note 2 can power the MHL-HDMI adapter (when used with a non-MHL-compatible-TV). Although this can theoretically also be done with the standard 5-pin micro-USB connector, the Galaxy S III's 11-pin connector is believed to be the first smartphone that supports this functionality.

OK so I checked and the model I have is 11 pin
EPL-3FHUBEGSTD
Which is the one you linked too.
Have you checked the USB debugging in advanced settings
I just checked mine today for the first time since I bought it from Amazon about 2 weeks ago. Cost me £9 - works fine. Although sometimes, it does lag a bit.

I have tried with USB debugging on and off. Its usually on for dev purposes.
I spoke to Samsung who suggested I have a faulty MHL.
I have just had another thought though. I am running Nova Launcher, maybe touchwiz is required. I will give it another try tomorrow.
I was right, change back to touchwiz and the HDMI adapter works.
Thanks for the help
Do hdmi works on aosp custom rom?
no Samsung mhl is proprietary the 11 pins make it unique compared to standard mhl ports. as far as I know I have not heard of any aosp rom that has mhl enabled or working
Any luck?
Can anyone recommend a cheap mhl hdmi adapter from eBay?

Hi ,
I wanted to use my galaxy s2 MicroUsb HDMI MHL adapter and OTG USB cable with Galaxy tab "7" with this 30 pin galaxy tab to micro USB adapter.
Any help regarding usb host and hdmi capabilities will be appreciated.
HDMI is supported via Samsung Media Dock. Could have googled for that. There is no listed USB OTG support listed for it, but there is a Keyboard for it, which could be indicative of UDB OTG support, at least of a proprietary nature. Both of these accessories require the standard charging cable to provide power during use.

I bought Mhl adapter because i was going to buy galaxy note. Then at the last moment i changed my mind and bought galaxy tab 7 t-mobile. My media dock as also arrived. But still waiting for 30 pin con to mic usb adapter and mini hdmi to hdmi adapter. I will let every body know if any thing is discovered.

As it stands, HDMI is available through the Dock as mentioned, but there is no USB OTG support. Keyboards can be connected to the 30-pin (Samsung keyboard) or through Bluetooth (third-party keyboards).
There was a project to get USB Host support going, but it seems to have stopped. You can try the OTG gear since there are many variants of Tab and many ROMs etc, but I don't think you'll get anywhere with them since the stock software doesn't seem to support anything apart from the Samsung official accessories.
I am working on getting USB OTG working, but it wont happen anytime soon.
You cant just plug in anything that fits and expect it to work. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 30-pin to USB and 30-pin to SD are for that device.
so in conclusion, it never work?
I was thinking of using OTG + USB to RCA cable rather than HDMI...
I am using GT 7.0 plus
see if someone can answer?
is the OTG P1000 USB working on the plus model?
thks!
Hello,
I want to do some stuff at the same time with my phone.
Watching a movie from an usb stick while charging the phone.
So, I've bought this HDMI converter
When you plug this into the phone you can plug in your charger or USB OTG adapter in the usb port on the HDMI converter.
But i can't find any splitter cable on the internet or ebay so i can charge my phone and connect my usb stick at the same time.
I wonder if this is even possible. It is possible to charge the phone when HDMI converter is connected and it is also possible to connect my USB stick to the HDMI converter.
Anyone ever tried this or has found a simple micro usb splitter cable or normal usb splitter cable?
You can't connect a normal USB Hub because i can't send power back to my phone through the hub.
Thanks :good:
Sorry I can't help with your splitter request.
However I'd be really interested in knowing if those two items work fine with the Note 2?

so the i know it isnt possible with the 5 pin mhl adapter (the old one thats not compatible with this phone)
I wonder if the 11pn version does allow this. I know the cables dont exist for what you are looking to do, there is a galaxy note smart dock 2 that seems to allow hdmi and 3 usb ports, if they allow it at the same time then it would be at least possible.
it must be. did you try the smart dock?

I've ordered one and i will see how it will perform. smart dock is nice but pricey i'd like one for home and work!
Bought this one http://goo.gl/6OiGx and as it is listed compatible with the NOte 2 and the Galaxy S3 i was hoping it would work with the Note 2 as well - nope: only power OR OTG, not both.

Old thread... at least on my GS3 I have found that the ability to charge and use USB OTG at the same time is kernal specific. Anyone ever find one that works on Note 2?
Hey all.
Just bought a 5-pin MHL cable after accidentally buying 2x 11-pin cables. Now the problem is the phone doesn't seem to recognize the MHL cable at all.
I plug the USB end into a 2.1A adapter (double the necessary), the HDMI cable into a Panasonic HDTV and the MicroUSB into my XPZ. Figuring it should work like that I turned the TV onto the correct channel and nothing happens.
Previously when I had the 11-pin cables the phone would at least switch in landscape mode and not come out (even thought the cable wasn't right). Now that I have the right cable it doesn't work at all.
I'm running the latest nightly build of Avatar ROM but as far as I know their isn't any problem with Avatar and MHL.
Any help would be great. Cheers.

Does anybody know of a working MHL adapter with at least a 12" USB cable?
I tried these and they do not work (work probably 1 out of 20 times if you keep plugging/unplugging)

No, only the old Samsung one works consistently which has the short usb cAble.
I bought this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171391851548
works perfectly as I think most will.
It's all down to the sequence you plug the cables in.
Power>Phone>HDMI
Cant remember the correct sequence but try it out.
COPIED FROM AMAZON AD.
1. connect the charger to the adapter cable and power supply
2. connect the adapter cable to the HDTV device
3. connect the Smartphone to the adapter cable

I tried allcombinations before posting and none works consistently with the 2 cables I bought .
With the old Samsung adapter, it doesn't matter which order you plug in phone, power and hdmi.
I don't think all cables/adapters (advertised as 5 pin) are same. It cut open the usb part from the working Samsung adapter and it has 7 wires.
The other non working ones have 5.
If anyone is interested to know, this one works for me most of the time. Doesn't matter which order I plug it in (I usually plug the phone last though)

Its 3m in length and requires external power to work. It charges the phone although slower than MHL drains, i.e. your phone will still be discharging while connected via MHL but at a much slower rate.
I've been unable to make it work.) the phone enters MHL mode but the TV (tried several different tvs and protectors) doesn't show any image.
I'm I the only one?
Cheers
Worked for me with a HP MHL Enabled monitor. Just be sure the input is marked MHL ready. Not all HDMIs on a device are MHL Enabled. THere was some scanning, manual for my monitor as i kept the connection to the workstation alive while connecting another device (the phone). You can try a different ROM from XDA. I see it mostly as a software issue. The phone needs to start some services when connecting.

Thanks for your answer.
My old galaxy S4 and S3 worked flawlessly. With the M8 I've tried 3 different adapters on 2 tvs and one projector and it just doesn't work. I didn't know that the TV had to be MHL compatible, never heard about that before, are you absolutely sure? Isn't hdmi a universal thing? I've tried custom ROMs, same thing. I don't get it.
Cheers
I think the adapters for Samsung and HTC are different. There are 5-pin adapters for the HTC and 11-pin for the Samsung and there isn't backward compatibility I think. You should check this first.
