I have a friend that needs a new phone and he has a straight talk. I have an old LG Marquee for Sprint and I want to unlock it so he can use it on his carrier. Any ideas how to do that? Its rooted and I have never unlocked a phone but I went to the LG Unlocker website and they require you to pay to unlock it and I am not going to pay for something like that.

Did you call Sprint? It's YOUR phone, PAID for, and you've met the terms of your contract.

The carrier will probably have to unlock it.
But will they actually do that for me?

I'm pretty sure my ESN is bad. I did a similar thing but still have the ESN on my account for Verizon. You can just unlock it and it will work assuming the SIM card slot will unlock.

If you hurry up and spend the $6 to get the GSM slot unlocked. If you can find a SIM card for T-Mobile or AT&T it will probably say it didn't work but that's just because it's locked until you flash the Chinese radio.

I can confirm this. My D3 had a bad ESN when I got it, but after removing the carrier lock and flashing the Chinese radio.img, it's working on T-Mobile no probs.
Then... Can I buy a DROID 3 with BAD ESN in EEUU and use it in SPAIN witout problems?
I think I must:
Unlock it

Even if you unlocked the phone the radios AT&T use are not running on the same Frequencies that Verizon use.
So sony starts accepting the 4gLTE variant of xperia Z today, i just wonder if i unlock the phone, will its work on AT&T 4GLTE network? cause on the description sony said its only works on 1900 mhz LTE band IV.
I am using At&t, and I got c6606 2 weeks ago.
I don't know how to unlock the phone to try it on at&t network.

Did you buy the phone outright from a Sony store? If so, go ahead and get an unlock code for it. According to most places reporting on the ban that I've looked at, it's only subsidised handsets that are covered under this downright stupid piece of legislation

Just have someone with T-mobile call t-mobile and get an unlock code. They do not require a minimum period. It only takes about 2 weeks for them to process it. I have done it many times with phones. That said, I am almost certain that this phone only works on T-mobile's bands, but I could be wrong. But it is branded for T-mobile. If you wanted one for AT&T, you should try selling the one you have and ordering an international version.

The phone is actually out today. I will try to ask tmobile to get the unlock code probably next week. As I know there is a requirement to submit an unlocking request. The phone need to be used on a prepaid number, which I have, more than 40 days.
International version doesn't support US LTE at all unless there will be C6606 for international.

I ended up using cell unlocker and it was quick and painless, and I had a working code in no time. (30 minutes maybe?). I would use them again.

Yes they all will but you may not get the specific TMO software tweaks.

Yes you can do it. Can't unlock it yet though. We need an ENG kernel or a root to be able to unlock.

What are you talking about? Either the Sprint Note 7 with an unlocked sim slot works or it doesn't. If it has the radios and it sees the simcard for TMO. Then it should work. No need to wait for much.

Unless Sprint unlocks your phone, you're not gonna be able to use it on T-Mobile until a root method drops. Once rooted we can unlock them. I've unlocked over 100 S7 edges from Sprint. Its what I do for a living.

OK. So that's what you do. *shrug* But I doubt it.
The OP asked if an unlocked Note 7 would work on TMO. It will if the sim card is unlocked.
It's a code to unlock it not a kernel. The kernel would be to unlock the bootloader ... a sim unlock and a bootloader unlock are different beasts.
It's not the sim card that has to be unlocked. It's the phone. Sprint don't take codes anymore. Sprint has to approve the unlock now. Just like T-Mobile and the device unlock app. The custom engineering kernel will grant root access to write the correct byte in for the unlock.
