Pebble Smart Watch SDK APPS.... - Pebble

Now that the backers are getting there smart watches I was thinking there should be a thread were to get apps and the sdk available to other users.
I would love to see KIK Messenger working and more clock faces to choose from.

+1 for more watch faces.
Would it be possible to create an app that used a bluetooth headset as well to enable voice control w/ Google Now?

I can't read Hebrew the font used is not unicode. Does anybody have any idea how to change it?

It is not possible to read any other alphabet other than the latin for now (I have the same problem with greek). I saw an app today made by a chinese or korean user (not sure) that pushed a translated message to the watch. Of course it used some data trafic to translate it via internet but it is a very good idea. I was wondering if there could be an app that automatically changed the greek characters to latin ones, the way they appear on a computer keyboard and then push the text/e-mail to the watch. Sadly, I have no idea of programming. If anyone knows how to do it, please do!

How's the shipping situation on these looking? Like if I order one today what's the ETA?

The kickstarter backer watches didn't arrive in germany yet.
New orders will likely take some time

Hope it will get to the Netherlands soon....

Mine is finally here. Amazing! I also have the Sony smartwatch. The Pebble is much better and easier to use. Pebble Notifier for Android is amazingly easy to use and all my wanted notification come to the watch now including Whatsapp and Chess Player.
Also loving the music remote function of the watch. Once selected it remains onscreen so changing a track can be done without looking at the watch.
I hope for the SDK more watch faces. I would like one with time, date and the current weather. I do hope that the coming apps for the watch works as the music remote app. I don't prefer a notificationcentre or something like that. The watch should remain simple.

i like this !!

Glance is nice but I prefer the Pebbler app on my android and the 91 Weather watch face. Great weather and info on the watch and seems to stay connected better than glance for me.

They sent me a free Pebble to play with. They have Plenty of Watchfaces at Pebble's Forums, you could check them out. +1 To the idea of having a thread seperate for all the Watchapps and Watchfaces.
Edit:
1- https://notesforpebble.com/ - This is a Notes App. You can Password protect all the notes. However, To save more than one note, you will need to buy it. A Nice App to Check out.
2- Google 'Keep for Pebble'. It needs a rooted Android, and it syncs All your google keep notes to your watch. An option if you don't want to pay for the one above but this one needs active bluetooth connection to view the notes while the first one does not require any bluetooth connection after installing.
And the Third and Final App(A Game Actually)- Koishiban! (Sukoban For Pebble). Check it out here (Still in Beta Stage so you will have to sugn up for testing on google+ which is free- http://forums.getpebble.com/discussion/6973/watch-app-android-beta-koishiban-sokoban-for-pebble-looking-for-beta-testers

Canvas is my favorite app, easy and powerful way to make custom watch faces. Right now my pebble displays the weather conditions & temperature with a dynamic icon as long as an animated row of missed calls, sms, & emails plus the battery percentage of my phone. oh yeah and the date&time
Canvas makes it super easy to do this.

How dependent is gear?

Hey guys, this may be a dumb question but I'm not that familiar with smart watches. I know you currently need the GN 3 for full function but can the gear function at all without first syncing?
The reason I ask is because I want one but have a GN 2. I know eventually they will be updated to sync with gear but not sure I can wait. If I get the gear now, would I still be able to use it as a watch? I thought I saw an option to set time and date and another option to sync with phone. I also assume camera can be used independently.
I wouldn't mind getting it now if I knew the clock itself would work and wait for the update for the rest of the features. Just trying to see what I could do without syncing watch.
Sorry if this seems idiotic.

It would be a very heavy regular watch with a camera. I wouldn't do it, especially at its current price. Just wait till the watch drops price and you can afford both it and the Note 3.
It has to sync with a compatible device at least once before it will even display the time. After that it seems to keep the time on it's own but the initial syncing is what sets the time etc..
Well that sucks... Wasn't planning on getting the GN 3 and don't know when we will get the 4.3 update on GN 2. Like the looks of watch and as long as I could get the time on it, I could live with it until the update.

I read somewhere someone stating that they had loaded the gear manager software on their S4 with 4.2 and it would pair but that several features didn't work. The app is available in the Samsung store. you could give it a shot and see how it goes. If it will pair you will at least have the time. I don't recall what other features were and were not working tho, sorry.
As far as I know... Someone else with a GN 2 tried to download form the Samsung app store but was unable to do so. Not sure the 4.3 asop roms are the same/work to sync gear. Been keeping my eye on the GN 2 forms but haven't seen any post about a Rom working to sync with gear.

I was like you, I have gs3 and bought the the gear today as couldn't wait any longer! I would have been happy if I was able to use it as a watch, however it worked fine with my gs3. I downloaded Galaxy Manager from Samsung app store and it paired without any issues ... Some of things aren't working, but majority is (changing clock faces, seeing contacts, calling, answering calls, taking pictures and videos - transferring them to my phone, pedometer, etc all working great; s voice, weather app and installing any new apps from Samsung's app store arent ). Hope this was helpful, any questions please let me know.

Remote for Note camera

Anyone know of an app that lets the gear work as a remote button to take a picture with your note camera? I believe the sony smartwatch has this feature...i think this would be a nice feature, as you can be in each picture you take and decide when the shutter goes off with a simple tap on the gear screen...
I had that on my Note-2 with Sony Watch.
I don't know of anything for Note-3 and Gear. However, the Note-3 by itself does allow for voice triggering of the camera.

I know you can trigger it by voice, but how cool would it be to see your note camera lens on the gear to see what picture you're taking...and once you're in the picture just tap on the screen to take the picture...
Agreed.
You have identified what could be a great app for the Gear.
I hope developers start releasing Apps for the Gear. It is disappointing that no new apps have shown on the Gear / Samsung Apps store.

I'm excited about the Android Wear devices because of the Google Now integration. I've always thought the mic and speaker on the smartwatch would be an important feature - not for speakerphone conversations, but as a good supplemental control system for the times when fiddling with the watch with your other hands is inconvenient. Pair it with always listening voice control of Google Now and you've opened up a world of convenience and utility.
I hope Pebble will consider that, because I'm testing a Gear 2 Neo and the mic and speaker is game changing. Even though w/ Samsung, you're only given control of S-Voice instead of Google Now, there's still a lot you can accomplish with it. It would be cool if a dev could break that open so we could choose which one. I'm at the point where any future smartwatches I choose, will be required to have that kind of feature.
If all Pebble did on the next HW version was add always-on health monitoring (steps & heart rate monitor) and mic w/ speaker I'd be happy.

Yes that will be great! Maybe also include wireless charging like the Qualcomm Toq.
I really hope Pebble will stick to what they are doing now. I like them over Android wear because of:
1. Screen is always on. I would hate having a watch that had to be turned on.
2. There are still country's that doesn't have voice recognition from Google. Including Denmark where I live. I frequently use English voice recognition for my phone, but it is impossible to get it to recognize danish names etc. So I would prefer no voice.
That being said, a higher resolution would be great, and a more stable connection would be awesome.

Agreed on point 1. I'm testing the Neo and it is the single most annoying thing with this watch. Any watch that can't reliably activate the screen to the point I have to reach over with my other hand is a fail. It is no longer convenient - I need the info to be immediately visible when I glance down for it to be useful like on my Pebble and Metawatch. Even the Gear 2 Neo is a half second slow to wake up, so it doesn't feel as nice to use as as the Pebble. I am not one to be impressed by the color touch screen of the Gears. It's form over function.
On point 2 - I really feel for you that it is not a reliable way to interact for you. As an English speaker, I cannot do justice on describing how convenient the always on voice commands are when they work - and we're coming upon an age where more often than not, it is reliable and accurate. To extend that to the watch so that the watch on your wrist is the control mechanism in scenarios where your hands are busy otherwise, it's a breakthrough! I hope the voice control is made better for your use someday very soon so you can also experience the convenience I've been enjoying.
I don't care for the round shape of the Moto 360, though. I would like a "screen shape" so I can achieve the density of information I require on certain watchfaces - I don't know if I'll be able to get that out of a round screen.
Like I said, I LOVE the way my Pebble has been able to give me such real features and uses, but due to what I expect a major shift in how I want to use a smartwatch after testing one with the mic and speaker, those are absolute requirements going forward for me. If they don't add that voice control capability, I'll have to eliminate their offerings from my future selections.
I see your point, and would probably love it too, if voice recognition was more useful to me. But as long as it isn't, voice recognition isn't a priority for me.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
My guess is that a future Pebble would have the following:
1) Once again the charging port/cable will be drastically altered from the previous versions. (making it not backwards compatible)
2) The overall shell of the unit is bulkier.
3) If the technology exists, they might have a color screen (e-ink/paper of course).
4) The stock software will allow users more open slots to install/remove watch faces/apps/games.
Adding anything else would drastically lower the battery's performance and be very unnecessary. Adding Android as the base software would really make this watch a nightmare to use. The battery wouldn't last as long, the watch would be heavier, and it would get uncomfortably warm. Adding stuff like a speaker wouldn't give this watch its waterproof ability.
The way Pebble is, its perfect in every aspect. Granted you're still stuck with some watch faces, but physically, its perfect. Waterproof, dust-proof, drop-proof, long-lasting, light, watch-bands are replaceable, and its relatively thin.

I recently got the Pebble. I use it for Fitness. I use it for Music control. And notifications. I have say I am impressed. The connection issue is improving for me. The screen functional but for sure not beautiful. I hope at some point for future devices the engineers figure out how to have nice looking screens with good battery life. And someway of making the watch useful when the phone is not right there. We may be a few generations away though.

Maybe they can use Qualcomm's Mirasol display.
Yes, higher res, always-on screen is my biggest desire for a new pebble. Ideally color, and I think mirasol would be a great option.
Keep the buttons; I absolutely do not want a touch screen. And better built in apps would be nice: timer / stop watch / single shot alarms, "nag" notifications that buzz every 5 minutes until dismissed.
Voice input to Google now would be nice but not that important to me. My phone does that already.

I would be curious to know if it is possible for them to come out with an Android Wear watch running on the E-Ink display. Kinda taking the best of both worlds. I think that the development community has been great for Pebble so far but I am pretty sure Android Wear will be catching up really quick to surpass it. But one of the features that I love about my Pebble is that the battery life is great and always on. So if there is a way it would be a neat idea to kinda bridge the gap instead of trying to compete. They would also be offering something that any of the Android Wear devices we have seen so far. Just a thought.

Dollar for Calculator app!

The lack of apps and not being able to sideload is irritating right now but I believe when development progresses we will get these things. I refuse to pay a dollar for a calculator app or 2048. I would like to have them on my watch but think they are taking advantage. I just gave samsung 200 dollars, they should provide more free useful apps.

Some... yes. A calculator should be stock. What's with the attitudes on here today? If they are going to compete with android, they are going to want to develop a lot more apps.

I agree, man. I love some of the stock apps, for example, the remote app, but a calc app should be default too. I would consider paying for the calc app if it at least had a percentage option.
You can sideload apps, it's just that there are no apps to sideload. I'm sure samsung will provide us with a a calculator just as they provided a sleep app which wasn't available before the weekend

Completely agree with azpatterson3, the calculator is the symbol for the problem! It's not the dollar for the an app. I like many always try to buy the dev's paid apps and I have hundreds of apps stuck on play to prove it! However, for Tizen we have (almost) only that one app (not counting the nascent watch face efforts, and Glympse). Morover, a basic calculator app is the type of app that every single beginning developer publishes for free just to get started! Samsung marketing this in their new Tizen store is . . . .puzzling! The irony is thick!
I do accept polish_pat's point too. There will be a free calculator, more watch faces and more. . . everything. Hopefully many created by outside devs that we can side load. But waiting is really, really frustrating.
Reminds me of when I bought a Motorola Atrix some years back (don't even remember which model right now!) I and many others were waiting and waiting for development on roms --it was painfully slow and limited. I felt like I won the lotto when I switched to samsung and found the rich, and fast development that hit all their galaxy (and note) phones.
However, with our Neo we're back in Matrix territory again. . .waiting for the developers to cross the river and setup shop. It won't be as fast since the population of users is much smaller, probably won't be as rich either. Fortunately, this is only a watch
As for Samsung leading any development surge, well, that would be great. but I suspect they will focus on ensuring the NEo has everything that is out there for other smart watches health bands and that's about it.
Moreover, if the way mucked up the S-Health/ Fitness for Gear approach is any model for how they will go forward, then we truly are going to be stuck in a mediocre app environment. I really hope they get better than that!
Still, I am enjoying what the Neo has now -- the (limited) sleep app, the telephony (great!), text messages and even S voice is pretty good for some searches and messaging for me (so far). Although more than once I have had to nervously say "cancel message" in a panic after looking at what my watch and S voice interpreted my words to be! )

An OS is nothing without a community behind it. You can have the best, most efficient, smooth and gorgeous OS but its simply sucks if there is no one to code for it (aka windows mobile) This watch is Tizen's first serious market entry, so of course it sucks, for now, but remember that the king of mobile gadgets is behind it and it will eventually be something great. We are the pioneers of Tizen, we are paving the way for the future. Tizen is a good opportunity for any dev to have a fresh, new and especially easy revenue stream. I mean a guy coded a freakin simple calculator app and sold it for 1$. I'm sure that by the end of May, he will make at least a couple grand on something that any dev can code in under 1h. Same goes for any other app. If i were a dev, I'd jump on this opportunity of knowing this is a new emerging market that has a very serious bunch of backers (Open handset alliance) and within a year, there will be at least a couple hundreds of thousands of devices just screaming for 3rd party apps. And although a calculator might not be something that someone would spend a dollar on, there are many, many other simple apps that people would pay for. As an example, porting a T1 wrinting input that would allow us to write something directly on the watch

I'm developing a simple calculator app I'm going to release for free... I find it crazy people are charging for extremely simple apps! I can see charging $1-5 for an app that actually takes some work to develop, but comon, a watch face for $2?!
Its all about opportunity. I'm not ever going to spend 2$ on a watchface, but suply x - demand xxxxxxxxxxx and as long as it stays like that, there will be more and more basic apps for a premium price

I consider myself a .NET developer first and Java a lid becoming a close second although I still have a lot to learn. Tizen widgets use HTML and Javascript for the backend. So if you know HTML5 and J Query I would say it's easier than android. Hard part is limited auto complete and knowing the SDK. For the most part I avoided the sdk.

Yes, all you need to do is zip up the wgt file and post that. We can side load w/ sdb install.

I'll see if I can post mine later tonight. Found a small bug with mine where you can stack functions... also going to be implementing advanced functions here soon.
I just zip the wgt file with any normal zip program?
So you don't need the sdk to make app for this watch? I am not a programmer but I read that sdk is closed sources. I know closed source is restricted.

So you want Samsung to develop free apps for you because you paid $199 for the watch?

my sentiments exactly...

Endomondo support

Endomondo released an update on Google Play today that now supports the Gear Fit. Can someone smarter than me tell me if its possible to make this app recognize the Gear 2 (Neo)?
I read that the just announced version only supports SS Fit. Article also said next release would include SS Gear 2...so you'll have to wait.

I looked but must have missed that article. At least there is still hope. Endomondo is my favorite sports tracker app.
enodmondo released for gear 2 neo
today, i installed endomondo on gear 2 neo. i was waiting for it for 2 months.
it works, but with flaws:
- after the screen turns off, when you flip the hand to turn on the screen, you can only see the watch; to see the running exercise you have to use task manager or to click the app icon again, but this is not ok, requiring another 2-3 steps, not ergonomic
- the heart rate works only 'till the first screen off, after that it remains blocked at the last value - fixable only by restarting the app on the watch (and resetting the exercise)
- the customization is not available for the moment (the phone app has settings for Gear Fit only) - probably it will be solved by the next update
i was about to sell my gear2neo, but this release just changed my mind. i hope they fix the bugs so we can enjoy it.
I assumed you downloaded a new version of endomondo to connect the gear2 neo? I am waiting for that. I was similar to you and ready to sell my gear2 neo, even though I love the hardware. Looking forward to the new update.
Yes, I have 10.3.0 on the phone and the app from the Samsung Gear Apps on the watch.

Someone can share the wgt to install it on a non-samsung phone?
They've updated the phone app to 10.3.1, and now it has support for gear 2/neo and you can customize it now

Onihay:
Do you have a SS phone?
I'm sure a lot do not and we will need to learn how to download the widget and install on the Gear2. I'll research it
I have a Galaxy S4.

Now the problem is that it doesn't work with the Endomondo Pro app. And the free app doesn't allow for custom intervals. ?
Scratch that... The free version is picking up my custom intervals. All is good!
On my Note 3 works fine, but on my K Zoom i can't download/install Endomondo on my Gear2Neo. Is it incompatible?
Any idea how to make it work?
Edited 25.09 - i know solution - need to edit build.prop file and change model from sm-c115 (kzoom) to for example S5 (which is sm-900f)
Regarding the issue of the screen turning off. This is a setting on the Gear 2 neo under the gestures. You can tell it to go to the clock screen or the last viewed screen. I changed my to the last viewed screen and now I can see the app that was running with no issues. I have also seen issues with the heart rate monitor but that is also with the stock exercise app as well.
