Finally, finally, finally!!! I've been waiting so much for this. I can't wait to spy on some people...actually do they see the app installed on their phone?
edit: I see now... SWEET!
And can we please add a option to mask the app service as something like 'google calendar sync', which is not suspicious.
This is the greatest app ever.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that a website which tracks your kids isn't ssl secured?

EWow.. wow.. wow.. just amazing.. had been waiting for such an app for ages.. I wish I could kiss you to thank you
The app works flawlessly man.. thanks a tonnes..
Suggestions/feedback:
The mobile site needs optimization to screen resolution as it doesnt fit well on my samsung galaxy s3..
I wish you could add more features like the when was the phone rebooted, track whatsapp messages, when was the phone screen on.. man I cant stop suggesting features because this app can be a great success..
I found only 2 problems. The application is shown in the installed apps in settings. That is a big disappointed. Can it be solved because as far as I know it is something to do with the android system and not your application. An idea. Change the app name to maybe something like music player or phone call or something which wont be suspicious. The other is just something I was shocked to see.. but anyway, I am ready to purchase the full version since the trial is just for 1 device and only 2 months :/

Hi everyone,
Today I released an application I've been working on for the past week. I'll be adding new features, such as exclusion list for speak aloud's, etc. This works with all the contacts on the phone (Facebook, etc.).

Current version: 2.7
An application that gives you the name of who is calling/texting you right now, without you having to look at the screen.
NEW PRO FEATURES: voice on Bluetooth A2DP headsets and wired headphones, smoother and improved UI
ATTENTION: Facebook doesn't allow access to the profile pictures on the contacts because they failed to follow the Android standards (complain to them!). If you want pictures to show on the contact list, set the picture on your Google Contacts.
Free version:
- It won't lower the ringtone.
- It won't respect your sound profile. BUT you can use the widget to disable the caller name for convenience! (So that people don't complain about the phone talking while on a meeting).
- Will not let you know about messages received.
- Ads are displayed on the application.
- After each call, the phone will advertise Caller Name.
PRO version:
- Lowers ringtone after two seconds to say name aloud.
- Says who just texted you.
- Respects your sound profile, so no speaking if your phone is set to vibrate only/silent.
- Widget to disable call/text name without changing sound profiles.
- Selective call/text speech aloud on visible contacts on your phone.
- Type or speech to filter contacts using Google Voice Recognition.
- Letter-based filter for contacts.
- Swipe to toggle between search and contact list.
- No ads at all.
Changelog: 2.7
NEW: on the Free version, you now have access to the contact list, but you can't configure call/sms aloud.
FIXED: problem when device doesn't have an SDCard.
FIXED: in some situations, the ringtone wouldn't reset back to normal.
ENHANCED: faster loading of the contacts.
ENHANCED: minor GUI glitches.

How to use the widget?
Press-and-hold your finger on an empty space on the phone's main screen. Select Widgets and then Caller Name. That will add a new icon on the phone's main screen. You can use it to toggle the talk aloud functionality ON/OFF without changing your phone's ringtone volume (it automatically turns OFF is set to vibrate/silence).
If any problems, please JUST SEND ME AN EMAIL, I can better keep track of those than comments on the MarketPlace! Giving a bad review doesn't help me fix anything...
Thank YOU for the bug reports, they are extremely useful to improve the application's functionality. Before giving a bad review, please drop me an email so I can investigate what could possibly be wrong.
Thank YOU for the suggestions, they really help improving the application!

I've updated the application today to fix a few bugs. I've also removed the ad's that would show up after the calls. So now it's pretty much like Pro, except for the smoothing of the voice when the call is ringing.
You can also uninstall the application and reinstall the application that previous licenses are restored automatically.
Enjoy!
New updates:
- Read aloud SMS senders, widget to turn it off without having to fiddle with sound settings.
Current version is 1.8!
great app!

Was keen to try this app, downloaded and have not been able to get passed the opening screen before a popup tells me its not working and must force close or report.
HTC Sensation
Fixed that problem, current version 2.2
It was a silly mistake where I was trying to do Pro features on non-pro version... and also there was a problem with the keyboard not showing up on HTC Sense devices (blame HTC for their modifications on the framework...).
nice app man!
Bluetooth?
So far Pro version works good on my Bionic. But... if this would announce through my Bluetooth when connected instead of my phone speaker then it would truly be perfect. Any possibility of adding that feature?

I've modified the first post to add the wish-list and to-do's. Suggestions are welcome, if there is something you'd like me to consider for future versions.
Nice app, using the pro version.
I've noticed two issues though. 1) no name is announced if a contact only has a last name. ie: contacts first name is left blank. 2) on a test, I sent an sms from my 360 area code phone to my 352 area code phone and no name was announced.
Would it be safe to assume this happens simply due to the way my contacts are set up?

Hi there RRSpikes,
1) I can fix that issue, will be fixed on the next version. Just need to add a verification, nice catch!
2) I'm just guessing you don't have your own phone number on the other phone? The application doesn't say the name if it can't find the contact by the phone number.
Thanks!

For #1, cool, thanks.
For #2, both phones (Tmo SGS2 & Sprint SGS2/ETg4) have active service. Could the key to this be that both numbers are in my contact list under the same name? I doubt this will make a difference but I also forward my 360# to my 352# or vice versa depending on where I'm at.

Hum... So both devices are SGS2 correct? I was thinking if it could be an API issue with a manufacturer. So let me see if I got it correctly, if you send from Tmo -> Sprint and vice-versa, it never says your name? Can you check if on the messages app, it appears your name? Is your personal contact a Google Contact or something else? Also, can you try asking someone to send you a text and see if it is working?
Thank you for helping me figuring this out!
great app
what do you think of adding...

say the time (triggered by pressing vol up+down or cam button or whatever )

Hi PersianSphinx,
Reading the message itself... I could do that, but it kinda is a bit out of scope to the Caller Name. The app is about letting you know from who, not the content. It is only my opinion, but if the phone would read my messages aloud, I wouldn't like it. Unless you are driving or something... I guess I could think about it if the device is connected with a BT headset.
Saying aloud the time, totally out of focus
Name: NewsSpot
Sync your articles as quick as a wink, store text and images for offline reading and search your articles in a gorgeous metro style way.
This is NewsSpot, a full-featured Google Reader client for Windows Phone: Its advanced sync-engine delivers a two-way sync for your unread and starred articles, which only syncs what needs to be synced. Already stored hundreds of starred articles? NewsSpot will download them once and never again. It caches articles as well as images for later offline reading.
Ever wanted to search your starred articles? Ever been interested in a specific topic of your reading-list? No problem with NewsSpot. Just tap the search button and enter your keywords, it will instantly filter your current list to what you've searched.
Together with Windows Phone Mango, NewsSpot now offers live tiles and toast notifications. For example, you can pin secondary live tiles to your start screen showing the count of your folders. Of course, live tiles can be updated per background task.
Other features include:
- Bookmark your article in Instapaper or ReadItLater or send a link per Email
- Mango only: share your article via Twitter, Facebook, Windows Live etc.
- Mango only: benefit from compressed web communication and save up to 80% of your data plan
- Open YouTube or Marketplace links from within the application
- Read articles in full or mobilized view, supported by Google or Instapaper
I've just released v2.0 of the app, which takes advantage of a lot of Mango features. Here is a list of things that are new in v2.0:
- Compatible with Windows Phone Mango
- Share article via builtin phone services
- Application live tile can show unread, starred and shared count
- Secondary live tiles with folder count
- Background task with toast notification and update of tiles
- Adjusted trial limits, added advertising
- Added support for gzipped communication
- Further improved sync speed
- Uses system progress indicator
- Added what's new to about page
- Added flip animation to folder tiles
- Changed icons so that they stick to the system theme
- Lots of minor changes and bug fixes
There is an add-supported version which has all features with the sole restriction that it lets you sync at a max 200 unread and 50 starred articles. The full version supports up to 1000 unread or starred articles.
NewsSpot is a matter of the heart to me and I'm constantly trying to improve it. So if you find a bug, have a suggestion or any other feedback, don't hesitate to write here or contact me per pm or twitter (@fourspotproject).

Nice Work
Only got to try a few feed items with it so far, but I like what I'm seeing. Nice settings menu, very fast. I just wish it had the option to download read articles for a certain period of days (I frequently have to reference read articles within a day, but not so much after say, three), and a higher class icon to match up to the slickness inside the app and I'd say there's a new Google Reader app in my life.
---------- Post added at 09:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:00 PM ----------
Ooh, one more thought. It might be nice to have an option to go ahead and automatically resync to the server after tapping to mark all as read, that way if I switch back to a desktop it already knows what I've seen.
@zedmartinez
Thank you very much for your suggestions.
Syncing and keeping read items: this is already on my list, though I think it will not make it to the next or after next version. Maybe I should re-schedule things
Application icon: Yeah, grafics are not my strength. I'll figure out something for that
Automatic sync: this one also is on my list. I think automatic sync after tapping mark all as read can be done quickly. What do you think of automatic sync after a certain amount of time (like 5 minutes or so). I think this would especially make sense in combination with a sort from oldest to newest. Then you can read articles from top and the new ones are automatically appended at the bottom.
Those sync options could work. I'm trying to think how Wonder Reader does it (currently my workhorse feed reader), I think it syncs everytime I go back to the all feeds list, or after marking all as read. I like the idea of the timeline-based syncing though, that's a neat idea.
Sorry to gripe about the logo I'm a graphics designer by trade, so, fussing over icons is sadly engrained in me. If you have too many problems or just would like the help, let me know what the parameters for tiles are and I'd gladly lend you some gratis help.
I keep being really pleased with the speed as I play with this. Excited for future updates, and you can expect a formal purchase as soon as I get paid this week.
So, just checked again: Wonder Reader has some kind of direct sync model, meaning the status of articles is synced as soon as you tap on it.
I'm pretty sure this could be done in NewsSpot, too, though these actions have to be tolerant to network failures. Added to my checklist.
Regarding the offer to help with the icon: You'll get a PM soon
Oh, I totally forgot to meantion that v2.1 is out since 11-10.
It was done in haste since Google changed the interface of its Reader, removing all social elements like sharing and replacing them with Google+.
I'm quite optimistic that the next update will add features instead of stripping them
Just downloaded to try out. If I like it, I'll be sure to buy it and rate it.

Ok. I've been playing with this a bit and seeing what it will/won't do. I like it.
I've noticed that it doesn't run in the background well, as in play well with multitasking.
Pretty much, I can open it up and read an article. Were I to press the home button or press an alert to answer an SMS, I can see NewsSpot in the open tasks list from the long press of the back button, but it attempts to resume then closes out back to either my home screen or another application running.
Also, I can press the globe button to open the mobilized version and then press back to return to the article. If, however, I choose the option to Browse in Internet Explorer, I cannot return to NewsSpot. It will attempt to resume and then crash to the home screen. I imagine this is the same issue as when trying to select it from the multitasking screen.
BTW, I decided to support you and pay.
@ anseio,
Thank you for your valuable feedback and your purchase.
Regarding that multitasking issue: I've got a lot of crash logs lately and as far is I've analyzed them, many arise from the advertising control, especially when the app is tombstoned/resumed. Its a known bug I unfortunately overlooked during development.
So let me ask you a question: since you bought the app, the advertising control disappears. Did these errors you mentioned went away, too?
Thanks for the info. Yes, I compiled this feedback after i upgraded.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
@ anseio,
Sorry to bother you, but I didn't get your answer. Does 'I compiled this feedback after I upgraded' mean that the errors remain?
Yes, it means that it still doesn't hibernate.

It may have to do with the fact that I'm using the HTC hd2, not an official wp7 device.

Well, I'll check the logs. Maybe I can find something there. Did the app just crash or have you been asked to send a crash log? If not, you may also look into the settings. If there is a log not uploaded yet, you should have an additional entry called 'manage logs'.
Anyway, there are a couple of logs on my hd from Hd2 owners. Will check them this weekend.

I can't find anything in settings for managing logs. I wouldn't say that the software crashes. There's definitely no error. It's as if they close out in the middle of the "resuming" process.
For example. I'll open NewsSpot, go to an article, press home button, enter messaging and locate a message, long press "back" button, select NewsSpot... it will show "resuming", then go back to the messaging section within a few seconds. Another long press of the back button shows that there are no other apps in multitasking.
Just wanted to let you know that v2.2 was approved by Microsoft and should be online within a couple of hours.
Besides new artwork by zed martinez (thanks again ) you can now navigate from folders to your feeds. Furthermore read items can now be kept and synced.
@anseio:
I've found another couple of bugs related to tombstoning. Please tell me if the app now works better for you.
However, still I have no clue why the app crashes without a notification. The only reason I can think of is that the system runs out of RAM (and NewsSpot is actually rather demanding in terms of memory). Am I right that a HD2 has little less RAM than a HD7 (448 vs. 576MB)?

I've been looking for an app to block restricted and unknown callers only. Before I download and test this out does this app have the option to do this?
Of course! Create a list or open one of the predefined ones, click the + button, pick "add numbers", scroll to the SPECIAL tab and find the relevant number groups.

OK - How to get started
OK, got the APP and paid for the PRO version.
I see the lists of apps and what permissions they have using the "List of Permissions" view.
I don't see how to control anything however. How do I "fake" a permission for an app? Is there an instruction manual or help for this app?
This sounds like the best idea in security to come along in quite a while if it works as I think it could. But I am not sure what's happening right now...

As of now, it does that automatically(Sending Fake data to most of the apps), in next update you will be having control to control the app (By clicking ACTIVATE button to enable to fake permission to any particular app)

OK, Old stuff gone (complete uninstall) New stuff installed (like I never had it before.) Comments follow:
Open list of user apps - all show a grey box on the right with the letters "po ra" in the box. Not sure what that means.
Open list of permissions - shows list of apps, then open one and it shows a list of permissions (looks like no change from before)
Open list of suspicious apps - all show a grey box on the right with either a number (range 0 to 16 in my case) except the first screen (top of the list) some show "po ra" until I scroll down then back up at which point they all show numbers. That's odd, tested several times, definitely happening every time.
Open Fake Permissions - shows a list of apps, all with a grey box on the right that says "Activate". Touch the grey activate button and it says fake permissions are activating please wait. When finished it says must reboot.
I went thru the list and activated all my games then rebooted. There was no change in the appearance or behavior of FakePermissions. I cannot tell which ones I have activated.
You are making progress, but still have some work to do. Keep up the good work!

Mate : Here you have to understand.. We are not blocking the permission, we are sending the fake datas to app which you assigned.. There is no chance that you will find what is happening in back-end...... once you assign the Activate the fake permissions it will be automatically activated.. No need to worry its test 100%/.

Its impossible to change the behavior of the apps.. as our our concept we are sending the fake datas to app.. which app is thinking all right data still that is fake..

I sent you the screenshot so you can see what I am seeing. FYI - I am running a Galaxy S4 VZN (rooted) with BoneStock ROM and Nova Launcher.
I also read the document you referenced as your goal, and that looks like exactly what I expect the finished product to look like. The granularity of knowing how each permission in each activated application is handled (trusted, anonymized, bogus, or empty) is crucial.
Your assertion that it is 100% handled doesn't tell me all I need to know. Keep up the good work!

Hi
I just installed your application and have few questions.
What does your application exactly do? Does it block access to my private data (reading sms, contacts, ...)? Does it send fake information to an applications? How does it set fake permission for the application? Does if fake all permissions or privacy related only?
What is the result when I activate the fake permission?
If I have an application that ie send sms and then activate fake permission for that application will I be able to send sms by this application?
I have set fake permission for few applications and I can't see any different. I have rebooted my phone. Applications work correctly and that's good, but I am not sure if applications has fake permissions or not. How can I know your application made the job?

Yes - the main concept of the app is fake permission app never allow other apps to steel your information.
Does it send fake information to an applications? How does it set fake permission for the application? Does if fake all permissions or privacy related only?
100% it will work for privacy related.. if you need more info have a look first page..
What is the result when I activate the fake permission?
The fake permission will be activated for app, if the app keeps on require your information then fake datas will be set automatically...
If I have an application that ie send sms and then activate fake permission for that application will I be able to send sms by this application?
you can send.. it will stop block the app reading your sms...

I am interested in it but it's not clear what does "activate does".
For example, if I want to take out the permission of wake-lock for an app, what should I do?
I read the paper a bit. It looks like it only deals with privacy permissions. Is it possible to extend this beyond that?
And does it require root?
Thanks

AnyAutoAudio
So I was tired of not being able to use the audio apps I normally use in Auto and decided to try and do something about it. This app is the result :fingers-crossed:
How does it work?
By using the notification listener permission, the app is able to access the media session of any audio app that is running. This is then passed to Android Auto, which makes it possible to control as any normal Auto app. This also means that it is necessary to run the audio app(s) first before running Auto.
I have several ideas for future features, but would like some feedback first and get rid of bugs. Take it for a spin!
Howto:
- Setup AnyAutoAudio from the app
- Open and run music app(s)
- Run Android Auto from phone or dashboard
Latest progress update & ideas for the future:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72587291&postcount=67
Download:
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/dk.jonske.AnyAutoAudio
Install AnyAutoAudio directly from apk:
If downloading the APK directly you need to allow unknown sources in Auto,
- In the Android Auto app, tap the Hamburger menu.
- Tap About.
- Tap About Android Auto header 10 times, until a toast appears thar says "Developer mode enabled". Now you can access developer mode by selecting the overflow menu dots on the top right of the handheld screen.
- Select Developer settings from the overflow menu and check unknown sources.

For the RADIO (FM) it's the stock FM App... Try it in your phone, it isn't detected in the list of Audio Apps.
Regarding the DAB App it's this:

Ahh, the list is filtering out system apps. I will include them in the next update
There shouldn't be any problems with the DAB app. Have you tried it?
Yes, it will handle all button events like play, pause, next etc. I will look into if it can take special buttons some apps use
Jusrt tested with local files and vlc and this works well. Its a Great idea.. Ill be a really happy camper if u can get it to pull the audio from firefox and chrome.
Youtube/netflix/hulu etc could all be nice too. But the browsers obviously would be top priority cuz then u could do anything (live tv news etc etc) in my opinion.
Regardless..Great job and idea!
keep at it. I Will report back after more experience with it.

If a app dosent show up, it is because it is not made in the standard way Android handles media. Maybe try a different FM app from the Play store? Just find one that has a notification widget, then it should work. I dont have fm in my phone so cant test it myself
For the voice control, only "play music" seems to work ("pause", "play" etc. fails on Google's side). This is a requirement from Google, so couldnt update the app without including this, but will expand it furter like "Play Chrome on AnyAutoAudio".

Ahh so its a unit with Android onboard? Well it should still handle the apps the same way. The way this apps works is by connecting to the MediaSession that an audio app should create, if you follow Android Docs. But apps can still play audio without this, and some does so. I have tried it with different audio apps, and so far have not found other ways

My fault I assumed that audio apps with notification used standard implementation, but not all does have I found. Also see answer above
For the filtering it works by finding apps that use the intent "ACTION_MEDIA_BUTTON". This is what an audio app is required to use to be able to handle volume and playback control, so any audio app using MediaSession will have this. Also in 0.0.3 it will filter out apps that already have Android Auto implementation
EDIT: Answer to last question
You will still need to have the audioapp already opened. I might be able to change that for head units but for the Auto app I can't as calling new apps will open ontop and that violates the rules..

Hi,
Perhaps a root mode to launch an App as background can be a temporal alternative.

Well the problem is not in the FM itself, you might be able to find other FM apps that will work. I will continue to seek solutions that will work across most apps

That's a good idea! I will add it to my todo list, but will focus on the basic features for now. I will look into it when that is working properly
:good:
Also has anyone tried it with a head unit yet? When I use the emulator, the icons on the list of chosen apps in Auto disappears after first load. Not sure if this is a emulator error or in the app, as i don't get this on my phone
Can you please pm version .02 as that allowed spotify to show up. For some reason after the 2.3 update to android auto my spotify no longer shows up at all. This app was only the way for my spotify to work.
App installed... works as promised. Very useful, thanks! Will test next versions for sure...
@chocolatet: as I already wrote in other thread, to restore Spotify, you must install that app from adb shell (not from Play store).
