Any case compatible with official dock? - Nexus 7 Accessories

Anyone know of a case that you do not need to remove in order to dock the N7?
Thanks.

One like this, or any similar design should work:
http://www.amazon.com/Blurex-Ultra-Slim-Multi-Angle-Premium-Protector/dp/B008D2POAS/ref=pd_cp_pc_2
Unfortunately, I don't have the dock so I can't verify, but the official Xoom case I had and its dock. It did a similar thing where one side of the tablet case snaps off leaving that side clear to dock. I do have the case and it looks like it should work. The case is pretty nice.

I have Poetic branded version of the above case and the bottom half unclips allowing the N7 to sit in the dock.

Yep. I have the Moko case through Amazon which allows the side the the pogo connector side of the device to unclip from the case also.

Is anyone aware of a case like the Seido Active (Basically something to protect the nexus from my kids) that works with the dock?

I don't see how it could. The pins on thye Dock have to actually touch the dots on the N7. Even cases that have the cut out for the connector don't work. The 3 mentioned above work perfectly cause the N7 is free and clear of the case at that spot. It just drapes over the back of the dock like a skirt (or kilt if don't want your N7 refered to femininely)

[Q] Does Standard Desk Dock accomodate case?

I have the HDMI docking station and it has a removable sleeve so that the extended battery or a case can be on the phone while docking. Does the standard case have the same capabilty?
I have a cheap ebay TPU case and it fits perfectly in there with the sleeve removed.
Not sure if you meant standard case or standard dock, but yes, the standard dock does have the removable insert for working with a case on the phone. Now all we need is a decent hard case that will actually fit in the docks... I'm not a huge fan of the silicone cases and I didn't have much luck with the incipio or the shell/holster fitting the car dock I'm sure they'll be coming soon enough.

I hate silicon cases also, have you ever tried TPU? Verizon sells one that they call High Gloss Silicon but it is a very firm molded case and nothing like silicon.

It is fit but no connection to charge the phone. I have tried TPU case in car dock and standard dock but both have problems with connection.
I have the shell/holster and I can get it to charge in the standard dock but the dock app will not launch. I usually just pop the shell off and let it charge that way at night. I do have the extended battery but the shell already accommodates that so it doesn't make a difference for the dock.
Side note: The audio output of the standard dock seems to work through the USB of the Bionic, it's not as loud as the headphone jack tho.

I have the shell/holster case also and it does fit and the dock apps do launch. There is a plastic filler that has to be removed in order to make the proper connection. This is a much better design from Moto than on the DX.

LOL! I asked the exact same question in the other Otterbox thread! Guess I'll be able to answer the question myself here in about 4 days...
Great please let us know and take a picture if you can. Cause that would be the deciding factor for me. I wont get it if I cant dock it. DS7 + Dock is great for gaming. Trying to take off the case all the time would suck and not be worth it.

I have the OtterBox case but no docking station. I assume that it plugs into the multi-pin bottom port. The case adds some added thickness around the whole S7 plus a soft rubber bumper which a flap covering the port. The flap opens, hinged on the top or screen side and wraps around the under on the bottom. With the standard OEM cord plugged in, the flap extends past the plug by a good 1/4". Want a picture of cord plugged in?
Did a search for the docking station and found this review page: Docking Station. One of the posts state that they have to remove the OtterBox to dock!

Well that really STINKS! I'm thinking that maybe using the back rest plate for the Streak 5 (it comes with the docking kit) will make it work. That back rest plate is curved to allow for a slightly thicker device to fit into the dock.
If it really can't be made to work then the case will have to go. I won't give up my dock - I like it so much I bought 2 of them....
EDIT: I just dug out the Streak 5 back rest plate and looked it over. It is actually curved the opposite way (compared to what I was thinking) to make it work with a THINNER device - not a thicker one.
Sad to say, but this is NOT looking very promising. I may actually have to make a new back rest plate. The big question will be whether the connector in the docking station will plug far enough into the socket with the case on the unit...
Yea if I have to remove it, then no, I dont need the outterbox. I mean I already hate that I cant dock my zune cause I use the hard case on it (official one) What I wish is if docks made extension cords for it.. Imagine use extension on the dock and you could least get features of dock even if it wasnt sitting in it. That or a block you add on top of the dock to fit with cases.
Anyone know a GOOD decent case that the dock would fit with?
is this the rubber case like the DS5 Otterbox? the one that you had to stretch around, but still held well, or the one that is a complete b*tch to get off once it's on?
I ordered this and got it next day. It's a four piece case. There is a rubber "skin" that goes over the hard shell. It's not the easiest thing to get off, no.
Well, I got my OtterBox today. Nice case - pretty much the ultimate in protection.
BUT unfortunately, there's no way to make it fit into the dock with the case on and since it won't just slip easily out of the case, that's a deal breaker for me.
Unless someone here wants to buy it for what I paid for it I'll be sending it back...
Ok so we know that this doesnt work, sucks, but sadly the dock is a vital thing to have on the counter. Easy to keep in view, hook up to the tv, and works wonders for playing emulators on and easy to see. =)
So we need to figure out which case we can use. Was thinking about a simple cover on it. Rubber maybe ok but I need to find a good one that doesnt "sweat" or make a smell after being on it for ages. Then we need one that fits the dock.
Yeah, I just ordered one of the $5 silicon cases of eBay. We'll see how it works out. I'll keep you posted...
Ordered mine, since I'm not having much luck getting a dock at a decent price figured I might as well since the defender is one of the best case options I've seen for the Streak 7
Yeah, if I didn't have and use the dock I'd definitely keep the OtterBox. I ordered a 2-pack of "military grade film" screen protectors and a silicon skin case from eBay. Combined they were a whopping $10.98
I know its not going to be the same level of protection as the OtterBox, but it should be enough to protect it from day to day knocks, bumps, and bruises. I may also get one of those neoprene slip cases for it...

http://www.all4cellular.com/dell-streak-7-home-audio-video-dock.html 50$ on sale. There are some aftermarket ones too for 25$ but those ONLY charge and sync, no hdmi and so, which honestly, is rather pointless in terms of the streak, since hdmi is nice.

I put a Zagg screen protector on mine.
Got the cheapo skin case the other day. It is just thick enough to keep the Streak from fitting into the docking station.
So I got out a pair of small sharp scissors and enlarged the hole for the bottom connector until it exposed the whole area around the docking connector where it makes contact with the docking station.
That still didn't quite solve the problem. The thickness of the case on the back of the unit where it leans against the clear plexiglass "backstop" moves it forward on the docking station to the point that the connectors don't line up properly.
So the next step was to make a new "backstop" out of thinner plastic. I had an old hotel key card lying around and that worked great. Just the right thickness, and stiffness, yet easy to cut to match the shape of the tabs across the bottom.
Since it is much thinner than the slot in the base I filled in the slot with a little hot glue. That way I can always remove it easily if I choose to since the hot glue doesn't stick that well to hard non-porous surfaces.

[Q] Will the Smart Dock Work with Seidio Active Case?

I am interested in buying the Smart Dock for the Note 2, but I cannot go without a case as I have already had to replace the phone once. I am currently using the Seidio Active case and was wondering if it would still fit in the dock? I have heard that Samsung has left some wiggle room for cases in reviews, but will it be enough to accommodate the kickstand as well?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jared

My guess from seeing other docks/chargers you need a slimmer case, like Surface or any TPU cases. Active might be too tight, but I don't know for sure.
I just received my smart dock 2 days ago and I also use the Active case, it does not fit properly. You have to press down the phone to fully sit in the USB prong and it connects fine but as soon as you go, the spring loaded usb prong and the rubber on the case pulls it back out. When I want to dock, I just partially remove the bottom part of the case or remove it completely.

Best Accessories for Nexus 10?

Hello,
I'm most definitely buying a Nexus 10 this weekend. What are the best accessories for it?
Most importantly I am looking for a dock/kickstand and a case. Can you people recommend any?
Thanks,
Crazysah
http://www.amazon.com/IPAD-ST-Universal-Tablet-Stand-Kindle/dp/B0045JNBNU is a pretty nice basic stand that works fine.
Any other recommended accessories out there?
The Moko Slim-Fit (note, NOT ultraslim) is a great case with the ability to act as a kickstand at multiple angles.

+1 for the Poetic Hardback. I have a smart cover and a silicon case, but keep going back to the Hardback.
I would also recommend getting a POGO cable. Some question the price/value, but at this point it is the only option and I have found it quite useful in terms of somewhat faster charging and less wear on the micro usb port.
If you use screen protectors, you can just leave the one on that it ships with unless you want an anti-glare protector.
Get the SGP screen protector. Absolutely beautiful.

I've heard a lot about the Moko Slim-Fit versus the Poetic Hardback? Not exactly sure which is better.
So that is for the case. Both have kickstands right? So no need for a dock then?
And the POGO cable, yes, I'll get it.
Anything else I should for?

There are no true docks available for this device yet that I am aware of.
The Hardback case can be configured to prop the tablet open to several angles with the top cover laying flat in front of the screen. That might work differently than what some people think of as a kickstand, which to me is something that opens from the back to prop the tablet up and nothing lies in front of the screen. The problem with either style is that the POGO connector is on the bottom, so you might end up using the micro usb for power or maybe flip the screen upside down in the case, but then the power and volume buttons are on the bottom and you have the POGO connector sticking out on top. We really want a true dock for this soon...
Okay. The only question now is, The Moko Slim-Fit or the Poetic Hardback?
Why the poetic have that ugly cross on it ... Little macabre

I have the moko slim-fit, here's a quick run-down:
It's quite a good looking case, with various different colour options (I took orange). The PU material did not come stinking of catpiss, is very well made and shows no signs of wear after some use.
It has magnets that wake/sleep the screen and it can prop the tablet up at various angles.
It has a really nice microfiber interior, which will never scratch the screen and feels pleasant to the touch.
All the ports are exposed and easily accessible, as well as the buttons (this is not true for the poetic).
I also read that the corners on some peoples' poetic cases would crack.
Those are pretty much the reasons why I bought the Moko and I am more than pleased with it. Excellent case.

I would say the exact same thing about mine. It is a great feeling case especially when opened with the lid behind. It also has the little elastic to hold it fully open as well as the hand slip which I use at work all the time

Car holder while wearing case?

Does anyone know of a reasonably solid in-car holder that will grip the Note 2 while it has the official Samsung flip case on? I assume there isn't going to be one built for purpose so just need a reasonably strong universal one, presumably windscreen mount.
Anyone got a decent one they use that can hold the weight and size?

Just picked up the iOttie XL for my new-to-me Note 2, works great. Best quality car dock I've had yet. Fits the Note 2 with a Case Mate Tough Case just barely! I understand the Note 2 with an Otterbox Defender is too big for it, but it should be fine for your application.
Looks good, thanks, I'll give it a try

iOttie should work well, check out my review links in the signature. But keep in mind that if you planning to go later with Zerolemon battery or thicker case like Defender, iOttie side grips won't cut it.
Ram mount x grip will work.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but I mod this myself. I use two 1 inch rubberband and a rubber case where i cut along the side, top, and bottom.
I don't know why the picture is upside down when I uploaded
Rocketfish makes a decent mount that will fit a Note II with an Otterbox Defender. The contact points are flexible rubber, and seem like they'd securely grip any case. It comes with both suction and vent clip mounts, I've been very happy with it.
