I'm thinking to buy a Galaxy S 2nd hand for £97. It's the 8gb model.
I have a few questions to ask
Considering it doesn't have flash what's the camera like? Also what's the front camera like?
Is there anything I need to look out for like certain model numbers having defects etc.?
What's the development like here, is project butter working for jelly bean? Also what's the overclocking like, what's the highest you can overclock to?
Is gaming good on this phone? I know games like Nova 3 will struggle but what about Nova 2 etc.?
I will be very grateful to whoever answers these questions for me, thanks

Nova 3 runs fine actually. The only game that struggles is gta 3, but it runs quite well with modded audio, etc.
The best thing about the SGS is the audio chip. Install the devil3 kernel and voodoo sound and you'll have a very good mp3 player.

Hey there.
First camera is really good, yeah it would be nice if it had flash, but well.. But there is night mod that really helps, it cant do miracles, but can help in dark enviroment. HD video is also pretty good.
Development is really nice. Theres lots of roms, ICS and JB etc. Im not sure about overclocking, never did it, but i think it can go up to 1.4GHz.
Cheers.
Following the footsteps of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is making its way to Android and iOS. Rockstar announced today that a special 10th Anniversary Edition of the open world Scarface / Miami Vice inspired sim will be hitting the two popular mobile platforms on December 6th for $5. No LG Optimus 4X HD in supported devices, but HTC One X is.
I suppose they'll add it sooner or later. Might even work with the HOX version.

I have serious problems playing Shadowgun THD and NFS: Most Wanted on my Optimus 4X HD (V10g). In case of Shadowgun, I have to use normal version, Most Wanted - downgrade graphics. I downloaded the game (Most Wanted), I paid for it, so I want full support. If not, EA could say in the description: We do not support LG Optimus 4X HD, so **** off. Now, no word about lag or not fully supported some of Tegra 3 devices.
I think that JB update will solve our problem with games, because it has huge performance improve
U can see it how it was with HOX, after 4.0.4 update and 4.1
I understand ur frustration but shadow gun and shadow gun dead zone and most wanted all run with no issue on my lg 4x HD.

i bought the game and installed latest version 1.02. worked like a charm. even with hi resolution there is no lag. just didnt it test with all things maxed out.
Impressive how they ignored the 4X even if its completely playable.

whats wrong with your 4X, you always say the game lags on your device. are you shure youre phone is a Optimus 4x hd ?
ig gta3 lags on yours, than vice city will , too.
Maybe I'm a bit weird but decision on buying myself an lg 4x is determined on fact of gta:vc working well on it. So tell me finally - will this work as it should on Tegra3?
Another question, are all these big games movable to sd? 16gbs is so small so its great to have an sd slot when phones like nexus 4 don't.

in my opinion yes, i tried to film my 4X but my camera sucks. The game plays ok. if you can wait until weekend, i will provide a video.

My friends. I'm very frustrated. I've buyed the game "The Dark Knight Rises" on google play. But the game on our phone is too Laggy! It's not a game that you can call a Tegra 3 Game. The same occurs on the Game " The Amazing Spider Man".
Maybe is a bug on our phone:? Or bug from the game?
My ROM is V10H. Anyone is frustrated too?
I got it when it was on sale for 0,25€ and it didn't lag at all. Dont know about newest updates because i never play anything on my phone.

I have both games..spiderman is very smooth, however batman is little lagy in the begining but later i feel it run just fine.
Have you updated your OS to your regions latest version? Games are lagy for some but in most cases updating os to latest version solves there problem.
Like mine nfs mw run quite smooth and currently shadow gun deadzone is my fav - on high detail display run way to smooth.

and now i have my s3 mini on the charge, battery heat is 28-32C,when i play a game its 36C.is this good?
There are always ways of increaseing gaming performance like killing background apps, tweaks and others. About temperature, i think everything below 50 celsius is ok..

Im very curious how long can you play lets say Grand Theft Auto 3 or Shadowgun before the battery runs out? I want to buy this phone but I like to play games on my phones. I use to get like 4 hours on my Xperia Play, now on my HTC Sensation I can only play for about 1.5 hours before I get a warning message that the battery is almost depleted.
I think i can play gta vice city for a couple hours.but the point is the heat of my battery.
I managed to run nova 3 the game from gameloft on my phone but not running smooth and battery was 39c! If i do nothing battery is around 25-29c.
Do you know where i can find the security to move files from my internal sdcard?

How many fps did you get with nova 3? Those gameloft games arent exactly compatibile with our devices although the hardware is strong enough. I played gta3 and some mc4 (extreme lags, around 15 fps) and the device was a bit warmer, but nothing concerning.

I think they dont run smooth because of the gpu. Also i saw somewhere that our gpu has only support for ETC texture compression and alot of games use diffrent ones, now, i also heared you can recompile them to run on etc format, so maybe it was recompiled in a wrong way(?)
Also, did anyone manage to run 9mm without white textures?

As phone gets popular they more games get optimised.

Hello, i dont have this phone yet but i have it on my list.
My question its how emulators run on this phone? I know tegra3 will have problems
with some apps on EA and gameloft but how it runs on emulators?
I dont mean snes,nes,sega...i mean on the heavy ones
Like n64oid, FPSE with opengl, PPSSPP, mame4droid reloaded or any experimental
emulator like Nintendo DS, Dreamcast, etc.
But mostly on n64 and FPSE with opengl its my question.
Because i want a new cellphone for emulators and youtube...and my current options
are this or motorola razr i
Thanks by the way, and sorry for my bad english.

I also choose the big buttons cause the buttons are too small for me

You can activate the buffered rendering, that will decrease your graphics but will improve the performance. You can also play with the settings of the app to see which configuration fits you perfectly.
You can change your governor to "performance" too.
I do not know this game but he may be a little bit to recent to work smoothly on our phone.
For example, I can play Pes 2013 but it is a bit laggy and i have to change de settings

If you want to reduce the heat, you can undervolt try different combination of scheduler and governor, that may solve your problem.
However, I have to admit that my phone heats up a lot when I play heavy games and charging (with fast charge) at the same time.
