[Q] [hardware hack] i9000 as a timelapse camera - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So this is my situation, i have a broken power button on my i9000 and i'm too cheap to replace the motherboard so i have been using it as a paperweight for about 4 months. (i cant turn it on without pluging and unpluging it in my pc for about 5 minutes every time it reboots or shutdowns)
Now i want to use the phone as a timelapse camera, but i want to know if the phone will turn on if the touchscreen and display is disconnected from the motherboard and what are the options of controling the phone via wireless.
The problem is that without the screen being on, the camera shutdowns and the screen is a huge battery drain, even with screen standby it drains out in about 5 hours.
And how long untill the battery goes flat if it is constantly connected to a charger? I need the battery because power outages are frequent where i live.
I would love to hear any suggestions before i start

got it to work, if anybody wants instructions PM me

My xperia doesn't take the charge!

Hey, dunno if some one had the same problem but my xperia doesn't take the charge.
Its appened when the mobile has terminated all his battery, and know the charge is not accepted by the phone
help me please
Something perhaps similar happened to me, i ran my battery completely flat and then could not switch the phone on even when it was on the charger. So I left it on the charger for ~1 hour and then it switched on fine! The other possibility is that you battery is dead. Hope this helps!
Its not the first time its appened to me, and the first time i had the problem i try a lot of time to recharge it, take out the battery, replace it etc.. and its worked.
But in 2 days, my phone is off :/
My battery is not dead i know, but how to recharge it
I have 2 computers from which I load it with usb cable. For some reason Mac Pro doesn't load the damn phone but Macbook does.
Try switching your "power" source. And sometimes when the battery goes really flat it needs many hours to even boot when loading up. One time I really thought the damn thing was dead for sure... But it came back to life
When you press the power button there's a red light next to volume buttons indicating it doesn't have enough power yet to boot up. If there's no red light then it's not charging at all.

Just leave if plugged-in and it will charge. It takes some time before it will charge if it is fully drained.
Ok thanks for reply
Have no real solution, but have the red light near to the volume button, or in the top of the phone.
But the phone doesn't take the charge at all...
The red light gave the battery charge, only that... have it sometimes and sometimes havent it...
Help me please
2 day less my phone know..
Ok i dunno why but the phone weak UP !
NICE
Ir was connected to the cpu and i presszs the button and it weak up
omg this phone
(Sort of) got it.
I'm not really an xda developer but id do have an xperia.
The same problem occured to my device about three weeks ago. I've noticed that the phone would still charge in the computer, but not by the power net adapter. (it must be broke i guess)
Today i've locked myself out calling the battery flat. I couldnt get it on anymore. After a lot of hassle this was the solution for me:
1) Connect the phone to a computer. Don't try to turn it on! Leave it there for about 15 minutes.
2) Disconnect the phone and pull out the battery.
3) Hold down the "on" button while inserting the battery back.
-- It should turn on now
4) Release the on button and quickly connect it to your computer again.
Hope this helps.
I just remember the red led lit on at the on/off button and the red light disappeared after 5 mins or so and i left for breakfast while it was still in the charger and by the time im back from breakfast, it turned itself on and was charging up

Try using an monitor app like Wakelock Detector to figure out whats causing the wakelocks.
A possible solution
Hi, I've got the same problem with my S3 Mini. I read in some sites that the problem could be a broken pin in the micro USB dock.
I already installed CM 11 but it has been useless. The device "feels" the cable going in and out, and for this reason it turns on and off every 5 seconds: that's because of the broken pin.
The best solution would be if someone could edit a kernel in order to stop this command, to let the device switched off even when the usb cable goes in.
Is there someone that can do this alteration? He could let people save a lot of money.

[Q] Z Turning off when using camera

Hi Team.
I have an Z C6604, Andriod 4.3.
Phone has been doing this annoying thing
a majority of the time if you open the camera App while the battery is under 30% the phone will turn off. Once it is off, you can ask it to turn on, it will display the first loading screen then turn off - as if it does not have the juice to start.
If you plug it into a charger / or let it charge up - it will turn on just fine.
Today i factory reset the phone. When i did it the battery was 100 percent and on charge. When the phone came back it was somewhere in the low 70 percent and on charge. This indicates some sort of batter miss-information reading to me.
not so often as the camera issue, but sometimes under 10 percent battery while your doing something it will turn of and do the same thing.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Will it be hardware, or is there a software issue?
Cheers,

[Q] My phone "charges" itself for a few seconds and then it doesn't.

My phone keeps charging itself. It doesn't really charge but something is really broken with the phone. My phone says it's charging itself and 5seconds later it isnt. That causes my screen to go on and off and basically my screen wont turn off. When i have shut the phone down, it still has the charging logo and whatnot. Also the battery level sometimes just changes when i restart my phone.
^^I think that happens because my phone has got some liquid damage (was in some coke for a second)^^
^^All of that sometimes stops, when i use my phone for about 20 minutes with battery heavy apps. It doesn't work always but about 6/10 times.
I have bought a new battery so it's not that.
Any help would be appreciated
May be the USB port. Try cleaning it.
doesn't seem to be the USB port

OP3T dead - not turning on and not charging

Hi guys, I have a huge problem.
Currently I'm on vacation in Croatia, where it's around 38-40 C every day. One day I had to log into an unsecured wi-fi. I know, i shouldn't have done that but it was urgent. Well, the same night (while charging) my phone turned off itself and I had to turn it back on on the next day. It worked the whole day until I opened the camera. Suddenly the phone went off and I wasn't able to turn it on. At first I thought the battery has drained so I plugged it into the original OP charger (dash). It gets warm while charging, but the LED is not turning on. After an hour of charging I still can't turn the phone on. Not even after a charging over night. There's also no vibration after holding the power button, neither holding the power-button for 20 (or more) seconds . I can't even get into recovery mode by holding volume-down and power.
I'm on original Resurrection Rom.
Is there anything else I could try? Could it be that some hardware is damaged (overheated)?
Since I'm on vacation there's currently no way for me to do any kind of unbricking until I find some phone-repair service.
I'm not a pro, but Im pretty sure the problem occur on the hardware side since the phone is not taking the charge and no vibration
I once had an Android phone (not 3t), the same thing occured, the phone I had had some hardware damage near the battery so I experienced the same problems you listed, ended up getting a new phone
Overheating is probably not the issue, at least not the 40C air temps you mentioned. These devices can probably something like 60C (internal temp at CPU or battery) before seeing any damage. Lot of folks live where it's just as hot as where you are, if not hotter. So I have to think the device is designed to work under such conditions.
Try holding the power button longer (a minute or more). I don't know about this device. But on my old HTC M8, there were instances where the phone powered off by itself. And the power button needed to be held over a minute, to make it boot. Although no charge LED is concerning.
Mine did the same a few days ago, was tethering and the phone just shut off. Buttons didn't work, no vibration, no charge LED, no anything. Thought it died but after plugging it into a PC it was detected as QHSUSB_BULK (hardbrick).
But it turned on normally after a minute lol.
Hallo. Mine also crashed. I was in the sunset playing game and taking pictures. Then phone suddenly got so warm and lagged, It turned off itself. No reaction. I connected into charger and then turned on hopefully. I think you must take care, because it has metal body and easy heating, and when heating it's lagging and not works good
My opinion is that it's overheat problem

You will see Qualcomm download mode message (QHSUSB_BULK) whenever the device is powered off. It needs to be powered on, at least to bootloader (or recovery or OS) for the PC to connect in any other way.
Update
After 3 days, it finally turns on and charges as expected. Don't know if it has to do anything with it, but i let it in the charger for 1 day.
but now another problem occured.
every time I press the homebutton the phone crashes and goes off. this only happenes if the fingerprintscanner is not requested.
i.e. unlocking phone with fingerprint, does not crash, but... pressimg homebutton to go back to home screen crashes.
