My phone (galaxy mini) has battery life issue on cm10.1 rom, which is that battery drains very very fast. for example, i just do texting, browsing, tweeting and lil bit gaming, my phone battery lasts only for 4 hours, even less. i ve used tweaks, scripts, apps to improve the battery life.
I found these all work:
No. 1: calibrate your battery
drain your battery till your phone shut down, charge it till is full (wait till no charging sign on the battery icon - ignore charged notification on lockscreen).
do it couple of times.
No. 2:
a. change this line in build.prop

No. 3:
odex the rom (partially, so you are able to change phone's theme).
Follow these steps:
1. move these apps : contacts,
mms, phone, settings and systemui, from /system to another folder (use non-default launcher).
2. run the app (attached on this thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156287 ).
3. ur phone will automatically reboot.
4. move back contacts,
mms, phone, settings and systemui to the /system after odex has finished.
No. 4: recalibrate battery using rom
(use lastest erikcas' cm10.1 rom or goldchang's cm10)
it happens times ago.
so today i backed up the rom. then i installed goldchang's cm10 (my phone lasts up to 12 hours in standar usage when i was using this rom), i used this rom for couple of hours, and i backed it up. then i did factory reset-wipe cache partition-wipe dalvik cache and battery stats. and i restored rohan's rom. i dont know how, but now my battery life gets much much longer. it's been almost 6 hours (when im typing this thread), my battery has 29% remaining. for me it's superr.

the trick is with battery stats wipe and not with goldchangs rom...that's quick calibration..
some times old battery data might cause excessive drain..so wipe battery stats also while installing a new rom...it wont effect much but u never know..i recently saw an article about this in google tech page somewhere
but mostly the drain might due to an app, so see if the app activity is still running in background even after u killed it..if such an app exists then uninstall it u will get more battery life..
actually, i wiped battery stats after fully charged maany times and freeze some apps too, those things didn't work.
well, like i mentioned before, i have no idea how it happens, but my battery life gets much longer, for real, yay.
yeah, but what if the 'background' app is must not be stopped i.e launcher, we shouldn't stop it right?
we talking about 1200mah baterry, righT? manufacture said it last for 6 hours of Edge, that means heavy usage, right? so, if you are using your phone a lot, that means 6 hours of internet, mms and calling, it wont get any over 6hours...for me, facebook offiiciall app and whatsapp drain battery like hell...so i delete fb, but whatsapp is must for me...same result...so no matter you do, even with deep sleep, its 6 hours of heavy usage...i also have Nokia e7, same capacity of battery, and same durability, 6 hours of heavy usage, except on nokia e7 battery goes quickly for its screen , not background app...android consume a lot of battery, its a fact, so there is no a chance that someone else calibration or tweaks can result better battery capacity...but, if you set your CPU mhz at normal level (600-248 at ondemand), you can get a good battery backup...is that cpu level its ok for you, than its ok..but running cm10.1 with that cpu level for anything else but music and opera mini, its useless...so, what ever you do, its still 1200mah capacity, remember that...your usage, is something else
take a look at my first post, my phone had has three 'phases':
1. rohan's rom before (poor battery)
2. goldchang's (awesome battery)
3. rohan's after (awesome battery, yay!)
my phone usage on those three is nearly same, even the number three i suppose is the heaviest because i haven't charge my phone till now (i charge whenever battery came to 4-1%, it's long enough from my last charging). take a look at ss.
here's a thread about battery calibration
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821870
*there's a link tells that battery calibration is a myth, IDK
About Battery Callibration, I dont think it increases battery life. It just resets the .bin file stats to show the battery indicator (in status bar) correctly. Do it once after you flash a new ROM (after charging 100% + 15-30 minutes) & then calibrate either from CWM by resetting battery stats/ using the app in playstore called battery callibration . It will then show the correct battery indications.
Many people dont do this and then they complain about battery dropping suddenly but it is actually not dropping. Its just the indicator which is wrong.

so is that means when indicator says phone is fully charged, the fact is not full charged?

Only the first time you flash a new ROM. Just let that notification come and then charge an extra 15-30 minutes & then callibrate once. Thats more than enough.
Re: [Tips] Prolong Battery Life on Rohan007's cm10.1 rom
I tested battery with Extremely Heavy and Harsh usage. And it lasted for 1:40 mins.
What was the test?
Running whatever the phone could.
So what was running?
1. Wifi(scanning mode, not connected to any wifi)
2. Bluetooth (scanning mode all the time not just 120sec; not paired, connected with any device)
3. GPS with Gps essentials app: struggling to lock GPS for 15 min, then locked for 10min, then again lost the lock... in short it was alternating in lock and unlocked states with time gap of 10-15 min as I was indoor)
4. Video Playback: Alternating Background/foreground playback of 320x240 to 640x480 res Videos with mx player
5. Screen brightness 100%, wake lock on, speaker volume 50%, cpu usage 600mhz ondemand
6. camera on all the time(+ small 10min video recording), with gps essentials app
7. Egprs: 20min surfing, sync on all the time(no social apps)
8. May be I forgot something.
Specs:
Device: galaxy mini
ROM: CM7 autoradio v8 or CM10.1 (forgot)
Battery: A newly purchased genuine 15 day used battery.
Note:
Test date: 6-feb-2013
Everything I mentioned was CONSTANT, SIMULTANEOUS On for all the test period.
Battery was calibrated which was showing true stats.
I do not have any battery usage (right now searching for any screeshot if i captured, mistakenly )
phew, so harsh test. how did it managed. In normal scenario the battery only last for 4-5hrs with no gps, wifi, Bluetooth, camera or 3g on. Maybe I will switch to Stock rom for long lasting battery usage as battery charging even when the phone is off is totaly, wierd.

How to calibrate battery..?
I found application "Battery calibration" and it says:
Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed.
It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully discharge after calibration, then charged to 100% without break.

But I didn't see any changes.. My battery stays around 13 hours...
After using "Battery calibration"and 2 times full battery charge, 72% yet (stock 2.3.3 KPE)
what was your usage?? i mean how much gaming, wifi, internet etc

Yes only a few calls, and sms, but synchronization is on (2G only). Average battery life ~ 16h( 2.3.3 KPE), but better than villainrom 1.0 (max 7-8 h)
how is possible that after 19 hours you have still 75% of battery. you dont use the phone, is only in standby? the fully charges were with how many hours?
I have installed Battery Calibration as said, but its asking to root the device. What is root? Sorry for being noob. I am new Android phones.
Ace's battery won't stand for a day with moderate use. It's battery drains faster than any of my previous android phone. Before ace I've used Sony Ericsson x8 and Galaxy mini, both's battery can stand for 1,5-2 days. I usually put my phone to airplane mode during my sleep time from 11 PM to 6 AM and on galaxy mini's battery drains only 0-1% in the morning, but on ace the battery drains 7-12 %, it's horrible.

Juice Defender, Set CPU, Auto Memory man., Autostarts and Tweaks for instance.
Use quick setting to access and switch/change the brightness, mobile data, wifi.
Check the apps that uses unnecessary CPU with watchdog, you can uninstall watchdog when ure done your evaluation.
Don't use apps such as Advance task killer(if you dont know what ure doing), it might give you even worse battery time. Many background apps doesnt use any CPU at all, they only take up RAM.

Hi to everyone on this thread. How long have you had your Ace & have you given it a chance to "settle in"?? I easily get 2 days+ with average use ie/ wifi/games/calls/surfing. The battery needs time to calibrate itself, no apps necessary. Takes a few weeks. At this moment I'm on 2d 15h 17m 45s with 27% left! Phone is left on all day/night & I disable wifi/3G/syncing when not required. My % stays the same overnight, no drop. Hope this helps. GrahamF. London

That sounds quiet unbelieveable. What Firmware are you using?
Though: Turning 3G off all the time means that you also dont have background synchronisation, right?! That would surely save some juice, I guess.
You can still sync with 2G, it'll just be slower than with 3G and saves battery, but since he mentioned turning off 3G and Sync in one go, I guess he disabled both.
During holidays I switched off 3g and sync off due to avoiding data roaming abroad and had still 20% left after 2 days with one charge.
Used it during that time for occasional SMS, gaming and taking pictures, and scanning for free Wifi hotspots.
Tap-a-talked from my Galaxy Ace
Hi Deathmetal X, I'm using the stock out of the box Froyo 2.2.1 on 02-UK. No mods, just use the inbuilt task manager to close what I'm not using & turn 3G/wifi on & off as I need it. I don't need background syncing & I just collect my e-mails (3 accounts) & Facebook, Twitter etc...on a regular basis. I don't have loads of widgets wasting battery either, just F1 & weather. I use it a lot on wifi + games & calls/texts. Today I'm on 3 days with about 17% left. Biggest drain on battery is the 3G, trying to connect & re-connect all the time! None of this restricts my use/enjoyment of this great phone & well worth having it in my hand & not plugged into the wall! Graham. London.
Nice app_ I use CM7 before the battery is drain_ after I calibrate the battery I think my battery life increased. good_
Hi There OB Users,
Just curious about your battery life.
Please post how long your battery can last.
What ROM and apps you using.
Mine can last roughly 20 hours on low usage (3G ON)
With Wifi ON, it's about 10 hours.
I'm using an app called "2X Battery" (can be found on market)
I'm running NOVA 4.5 ROM
Really appreciate it.
NOVA 4.5
Last three days I didn't use that much my phone so I could test how long does it go without charging.
Calling ~3min
WiFi - 5min
Camera - 10 photos
Winamp - 2h
Display was on about 1.5h
Other apps (no games) that don't use internet - 20min
At 5% I had to charge it for next day. So 95% = 2 days 18 hours. It would be 3 days if I didn't look what time is that often.
But for "normal" every day use, it's 1.5 days. I don't use internet because it's slow in my city (and it's optional for my plan). And at this moment I don't have WiFi router at home (I broke antenna).
Hey there.
here: NOVA v4.5
I use my phone a lot, like 2 hours of 3G network (lot of whatsapp, and quick web search). 3G aways ON
1 hour of calling
3 hours of music
The battery life is about 10 hours.
It would be great if i have at least a day, using it like i do.

Check if you have apps which refreshes between intervals (or even push notifications) and avoid them.. the best solution is to disable Wi-fi and, if you are not a demanding person by others, switch to airplane mode while you sleep!

Unfortunately, along with many of the downsides of CyanogenMOD, battery life is an absolute joke. I think you'd be lucky to get over 24h of usage on that ROM. I have no idea why, but it seems that it sucks the life from your phone WAY too quickly.
For those having battery life issues, I'm on Zeus 6.11o and i've increased my battery life by just:
Using a good governor (smartassv2) to control CPU usage when screen off.
Recharging from dead to 100% seems to increase battery life.
And after using playerpro for an hour, surfing the net, using NBA.tv, 3G always on, an hour or so of Kairosoft gaming and i'm currently at 73%.
So life's good under the hood.

thank you very very very much it totally works! and i'm start use my phone in 2G.
This is my first post here. Am kinda new to the forum
Well, i know this issue have been said over and over. But i didn't get anything out of other threads
I have my new gnote on stock ICS for 6 weeks now. It's battery drain rate was about 1 % every 5 minutes on browsing. Then one day i installed game "angry gran 2" from 1mobile market, because it said on playstore not available for ur country. And since that moment the battery went crazy. Drain 1 % every 2 or 3 minutes. I uninstalled it a day later and the problem is still there. This was about 10 days ago
I checked running apps nothing is different than normal
I dunt use face book app
I uninstalled samsung push service
GPS and location services are always off
The mobile goes into deep sleep very well no problem with that acc to CPU spy. The processor which usually works is 200 mhz then sometomes 1200 mhz
All settings since the day i bought it are set to save energy "lowest brightness, sync is off .... Etc."
Now the battery does not work notmally unless every charge i remove the battery for few minutes and put it back' i did this today before i turn off my phone battery was 92 % remived battery put it back and it's 87% ! :S
Yester day about twice after going to sleep i find batter increased 1%
Can you help me please to spot where the problem is ?
I have better battery stats but i dunt understand it
And one more question please, does having large number of apps even if not running in the background cause battery drain ?
Thanks all will greatly appreciate any help
+1 on that. My note's battery runs really fast and I'm not even using it for hardcore gaming. The battery gets really hot at times too.

Hi! Once I had a similar battery issue, but in my case it was after flashing a custom rom. Battery started draining much faster than usual. And sometimes battery percentage jumped up too. Have you tried to remove/insert battery, then fully charge your phone and when fully charged run "Battery Calibration" app from Play Store? Have a feeling it's not the solution for your battery issue, maybe a long shot, but still maybe worth a try if you haven't done that already?

There's no such thing as battery calibration apps, it's a con, you just put them through a few cycles and they're fully charged, modifying the battery stats does nothing for the use of the physical battery.

That is correct. The name of the app might be misleading. It does not do anything to the battery's physical condition at all.
The problem I had was that my "battery" suddenly started to drain very fast according to the battery icon in status bar. It dropped about 1%/min during screen off, and even faster with screen on. I charged my phone to 100% about 6 or 7 times. But as soon as I unplugged the cable I had that very quick drain. I guess the battery itself had much more capacity left than shown, it is in good condition... but that didn't help me because my note turned off when the battery icon showed it was low on % and I had to start charging again. Then I ran this app, which only thing it does is to simply delete batterystats.bin file if I understand it correctly. I don't know much about these stuff, but after that the usage time of my phone is back to normal again

I just had a look at Play Store and all the apps I saw that does remove batterystats seem to need root. Probably it is a system file you can't touch without root access then Also, the battery issue you have might be caused by something else.

Well i wish it can be solved this way ... Coz other option am.gonna take is downgrading to GB then factory reset as i understood this won't brick my phone if I got it carrectly
May be it's calibration thing ... Check the attatched photo the batteru since 3 a.m. To 9 a.m. Is almost at same level or increasing .. Maybe it's some kinda of system calibratoon of battery indicator against battery fast drain while working .. I dunt know
In system settings > battery: what is reported there?
Have you tried boot in "safe mode" to see if it still drain the same way? It will exclude most of user installed stuff as your downloaded apps and such from running.
But remember you might loose some user settings on your phone when booting normal again after safe mode.

There's no such thing as battery calibration apps, it's a con, you just put them through a few cycles and they're fully charged, modifying the battery stats does nothing for the use of the physical battery.

although battery calibration app does nothing to do the battery hardware, but it does calibrate on how the battery percentage is being read by your phone. It wiped your battery status, allowing 100% charged to be read as 100% charged. sometimes, due to various reason (ie. flashing without fully charging), your battery status will be inaccurately read by your phone. For example, you charge your phone upto 2000, havent completely charged to the max capacity (2500) but the phone already read 2000 as 100%. and because of this, it will look like your battery drain really fast or the percentage jumping up and down. i guess.
wiping battery status requires you to have root access. thus, this app will only work when you have rooted your phone.
it is true that after a few cycles (not sure how many times) of charging the battery status may go back normal but hey, if we can make sure to do this calibration with only one cycle, why we have to do more?

My battery is crazy. Yep in deep sleep some times it increase 1 % .... On the other hand while working with the phone it drains very rabidly at a rate 3-3.5 % per minute .... Either on wifi or not ... It's normal rate used to be 5 % per minute till the day iinstalled that game and the problem persists even after i removed it
As for the explanation in the thread ptovided it does not make sense to me .. Because every time the battery jumps up the battery drain becomes soooooo rapid afterwards

Have you tried boot in "safe mode" to see if it still drain the same way? It will exclude most of user installed stuff as your downloaded apps and such from running.
But remember you might loose some user settings on your phone when booting normal again after safe mode.

I was trying to find a way to root my phone but i can't find any data on the web ! For some reason that way of rooting tgat was on xda deleted ...
But I have a question ... I always wait rill my phone completely empty and charge it till completely full ... I leave it in the plug about an hour till the complete sign shows in notification bar
Does this mean that way that my battery is already calibrated and i shouldn't try to bother to root the phone and get the app ?

There's Dr ketans thread on rooting in the stickies of development section, it's very simple.
After 1 or two full charge cycles, the battery will recalibrate itself, no need for any app, they don't do anything anyway.

I tried safe mode .. And yeah performance is a little better though still not like before .. it bought me an extra minute per 1% drain .. So i dunt know what that says ? I checked running processes the only difference that facebook and avast antivirus dunt run in safe mode .. Which were probably always there since i got the phone nothing new..
Hello everyone, need some advice. I am unable to know if my battery is functioning normal or should i get it replaced. Please see the atached picture. You will see that my battery draining off within 4hrs with 2G data on. It has been happening from past 2 weeks. Just want to know if it is normal on 2G. Or should i get my battery replaced with a new one. I have read somewhere that with 2G battery of Galaxy Note lasts for about 6 to 7 hrs. Mine goes for just 4 hrs max.
Few details about my usage:
1. Data sync is not on all the time. But for every half an hour i keep data sync on for 30 for 40 seconds max to retrive mails.
2. I dont not watch any videos, online or on mobile.
3. I dont play games at all though i have around 20 games bcoz of this poor battery life.
4. I do not do video calling.
5. With the above usage and little bit of online videos using wifi, I get around 3 to 4 hrs of battery life.

My phone is having a really bad battery life.It can't last a whole day and it discharges extremely fast.I looked at "Battery" in settings and nothing looks suspicious.Even in standby mode it discharges like crazy ( overnight i lose about 30% of battery ).Phone is completely new.I don't want to disable live wallpaper, wifi, mobile data, sync etc. because i bought a smartphone for those features.Any other suggestions are welcome.

That's normal for the stock ROM, flash my V3 ROM you'll have 2 or 3% drainage over night.
I get super draining aswell after flashing dmod v1. I can't be bothered to keep flashing roms so I'm waiting for cm or benzrom v4.

Turn off your live wallpaper en weatherclock. Those 2 keeps the phone awake. I have with 3g allways on slight browsing loads of texting and whatsapp few calls and most of the time online on facebook, 20/27h of battery time. When i dont use my phone alot it can go up to 35/40h

No live wallpaper and no weather clock. Most bloat ware removed, Using golden kernel hotplug governor and seeder. With benzrom I had 20+ hours with heavy use. Since dmod I get roughly 10-15 hours. 30% drains overnight.

So strange, there are no significantly changes in DMod, compared to the base BenzROM! Essentially frameworks and apps are the same
I know man it doesn't make sense but I can't wait for another better rom that will hopefully fix this issue with a clean install.

Yes but you're forgetting about build.prop tweaks, they play a big role when it comes to battery drainage.
I just installed Benz rom, so i am hoping for better battery life. But there is also one more thing i noticed.I installed no frills cpu and i noticed that minimum frequency is 1 ghz !!! I set it to 200 mhz and i think that will make a huge impact on battery.I will be posting my battery stats picture soon.
So many advises about installing other rom. I think you need to try to remove huge battery drainers first. Try to disable Picasa web-albums sync (this **** eats alot! ) and some other sync that you don't need. You need to change it for each Google account you use on your phone. That's all. This small change halped me alot with battery drain and, I hope, will help you.
Also, you can freeze apps that you don't need to. It can be made without root.

In screenshot you have a very weak gsm signal in your area. This drains your battery.
If you don't use 3G/HSPA mobile data, you can try to manual switch to 2G network (2G band use less power from your battery).
HTH,
Ok, so installing a new rom and messing with CPU frequencies did help after all.I installed Benz rom and changed minimum cpu frequency from 1 ghz to 200 mhz.Battery now lasts 2-3 days with light use and about 1.5-2 with medium use.Battery discharge overnight is about 10% with sync, wifi etc. turned on.
hmm,i dont know what apps you have installed on your phone, but when i installed Dropbox app few days ago, there was a massive battery drainage overnight...it eat my battery between 30-35% overnight...and it used to be only 3-5%...
of course i uninstalled the app and now its back to normal, only 3-5% drainage overnight(wifi and sync off)...
Check my "Obligatory Extended Battery Thread."

Hello guys, sorry for my bad english, but I'm not American. Well, my question is:
I bought from a guy a Galaxy S I900b, Brazilian model with digital TV. Came with stock 2.3. As I had already read enough before, upgraded to JWB Saurom with semaphore kernel, which I think is the default for this rom. Well, the phone had very poor battery life, evn on idle. Then upgraded to 10.2 CM. I saw that had some wakelocks, and with BBS and the help here, I used the Scan Media Root and my problems are gone in iddle. So, my phone goes into deep sleep and today during my sleep, only lost 3% battery, 3% battery drain on idle during about 5-6 hours it very good to me. But during use, it ends up very fast, and with GSAM and standard monitor of the android, I saw that after the screen, the Android system was what had higher %% battery. So what could it be ? The battery life is ok, checked on info, and its condition is 'good'. I use to Greenify, and close almost every game\app, so running is just grenify and ram manager pro.
So the prob just could be a app or the 'android system' ? Or even hardware ?
I dont have much time now, so any info or screenshot you want, I can provide later
Thanks
What about your connections? Do you have 3G/wifi enabled at all times?
calibrate....maybe useless, but u can try....but somehow, try bigger mAh battery, maybe.....n maybe .... it will help.
juz charge it with screen turn on till it full, n waste it to 0% till it shut down, turn it on n charge it with screen on till it full again, u ll be fine
if problem occur again, keep an eye for sneaky app that run at background (email...exchange etc) n juz delete some sys app that u dont use using titanium.
if it still occur again, wait for arc reactor battery....

I've deleted the batterystats.bin and used until 0%, so charged while off, but nothing :C
It's true that the battery needs to 'learn' ? Like, a few charges and discharges and could estabilize ?
I'll take a few screenshots right now
Callibration of you battery eg: Wipe battery stats is onluy helpfull when you get weird battery stats.
If you are on any CyanogenMod ROM you have to get used to the higher ammount of battery use by the phone. The application Greenify can help a lot by hibernating the huge battery suckers like facebook and google maps.
Some tips:
- use 2G instead of 3G
- Turn WIFI off when you're outside the house or leaving for some time
- Turn GPS/Bluetooth on only when you're about to use it
- Dont use taskkillers (they are used to free up ram but killing apps makes android restarts them and this consumes extra juice)
- Put brightness on Auto
- Use a dark theme and background/lockscreenwallpaper
- Dont recharge your phone when below 5% this can damage the battery
- A new battery needs to "Get used to" the life of being a battery xD After a few recharging cycles it will work like normal
Here some screenshots, if need more, just ask
Note: Was with 14%batt, rebooted and drops to 11-10%

Remember that this is just on use, on idle it use virtually nothing, like I said, almost 3% on sleep, but is just I start use with app or browser and its gone

I think its my last shot ... I'll provide a new battery next week, but i've heard some people with batt probs that even with new batt the problem persists :crying:

It looks like wifi and 3G have been kept on for most/all of the time. Turning those off while you're not using them may significantly increase battery life.
Also, related to kernels, personally I've found Mackay to be a bit better in terms of battery.
Also it looks like your screen's pretty bright if 61% of the battery usage is because of it. So if you don't need it so bright turning the brightness down may help.
Start by doing those, and see how your battery life fares first- if not much changes, then it may help getting a bettery battery/changing rom even.

So, like i said, in this 2 hours after charge, i've used opera mini with wifi, I dont use 3g. Right now the battery is less than 10%... it's strange since have people telling that can use almost 5 hours wifi and the battery is > 50%
And the brightness is at lowest bright :\
The problem could be some corrupted file ? I have the options:
- format EVERYTHING, and dont use titanium backup, since somthing can be corrupted.
- change my kernel to Mackay
- change my room back to SAUROM 2.3.6 adn semaphore kernel
I'm very sad cuz I have a very old Nokia E5 that can be on with wifi almost or more than 10hours ... and this phone can barely hold 5hour
What u suggest me to do ?

How long have you been using the rom? Roms take time to calibrate the battery and this is through charge/discharge cycles.
Alternatively, go into Performance settings and change the profile to powersave/conservative (it differs from rom to rom). Lock the min CPU frequency to 200mHz- apparently this helps.
Again, this would change depending on your kernel.
And if you have a three year old battery like mine, best not to expect miracles...

Using bout 2 days ... but i didnt knew about ' calibrate '. Good to know that
Now i've formated everything and will put a stock 2.3 and see in a couple of days the perfomance ... if gets better, I put the saurom 2.3.6 and be with it, cuz 2.3.6 on brazilian model allow to use digital tv, and 2.3 everyone says is economic.
I'll get this updated if my situation changes, if not, will buy a new battery
Thanks for all your help
Note: How long your batt last ? With high\low usage
