Yes, but for mobile 11.10 is much more fluent and smooth like, where as 12.04 is memory heavy and is awkward on a small screen, this is just a beta by the way...

Can you offer instructions to how you made it work. I have tried time and again following the steps to the T and can't get it to work. I have been able to execute every exploit with valid instructions to this point and even have figured ones with half instructions but have failed at this.

I haven't tried it yet. But did you download busybox? Or busybox installer? There is a difference, assuming that you just went to the Google Play app. HOWEVER, if you used the link and it still isn't working, disregard. I had the plain ol busybox and the install failed for me. I will be using the BusyBox Installer. I'll know once my SD card is done formatting.

There's an app that automates most of the process. Its called complete Linux installer. It has more distros than Ubuntu and the app is free. Its on play and here on XDA
Sent from my XT925 using xda app-developers app
Would this work with Arch or another ultra-light-weight distro?
Also: Is there any way to get Complete Linux Installer or another automated installer to run it off of the external SD? Safestrap takes up a ton of space on the internal, and I don't want to cram an entire Linux distro on there too.

I just tried rooting my new Droid Bionic with Pete's Motorola Root Tool, works fine.
To root your Droid Bionic:
Step 1. Set your phone as "Charge Only".
Step 2. Make sure USB Debugging is checked on under Settings->Applications->Development.
Step 3. Connect your phone to your computer via USB Cable.
Step 4. For Windows, you need to install Motorola drivers.
Download drivers here:
http://androiddrivers.net/motorola-android-drivers/download-motorola-droid-bionic-windows-drivers/
Step 5. Download Pete's Motorola Root Tools here:
http://www.psouza4.com/bionic/
Step 6. Unzip Pete's tools and run the exe file for Windows and similar for Mac and Linux.
You can donate to Pete at psouza4.com and xda user djrbliss, I only used their tools and it worked.
Also see how to tether for free after you root, here.

With your phone connected to the PC did you switch the phone to "charge only" mode? before starting? You can verify this by using the pulldown menu in your phone and selecting the ongoing USB connection, then "charge only"

R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R Root for the BIONIC
Works on any system software version (.886 and .893)
Now for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X
Presented to you by dhacker29, DroidTh3ory, Crpeck and TH3ORYROM
I have totally rewritten the windows version and Crpeck has rewritten the Linux/Mac OS X version
The downloads include all of the files necessary to either root or restore and root your bricked BIONIC no matter what system version you are on (.886 or .893
I have zipped up the fastboot binary, boot.img, system.img, ROOT tools and a custom script so that all you have to do is download the zip. Extract it the folder and double click on Root.bat (windows) or MotoRooter.sh (Linux/MacOS X) file to be given the option to root your BIONIC or recover and restore from a bootloop or softbrick on your BIONIC.
The Windows version now includes the ADB exe and DLL file so you don't have to worry about not having ADB setup.
The Linux and Mac OS X version has been updated by Crpeck, so that it is now menu driven and has a clicky icon for Mac OS X users. It includes the adb and fastboot binaries for both OS's and will auto determine which platform you are running.
Instructions:
Download the zip:
Windows: R3l3AS3DRoot_Windows_V2.1.zip
MotoRooter for Linux and Mac OS X: MotoRooter-1.1.zip
Extract the zip folder on your computer.
Double click the file R3L3AS3DRoot.bat for windows, MotoRooter.sh for Linux, or Mac-MotoRooter for Mac OS X in the folder where you extracted the zip.
Follow the prompts on the screen and you'll be given the option to restore to factory stock, restore to factory stock and reroot with forever foot, or forever root your phone.
Each section gives you instructions on what mode to put your phone in so follow them carefully!
Enjoy the scripts!! And show Crpeck some love for helping with the Mac OS X stuff and making my linux version even better.
If you encounter an error message please post what the error was and which operating system you were running it on so we can help you better.

Alternate Install Instruction Video thanks to zedomax:
Personal experience speaking here:
It's best to install this script after a fresh, clean install of a ROM.
If you're installing it after you've installed all your programs, you'll need to copy your original internal sdcard files and folders over to your external sdcard first, or the programs you had installed that require data will not work.
I always have a backup of my internal files, and used a new external sdcard when installing the script, so it was no big deal.
Consider yourself forewarned!

I just reposted the video in the OP as an "alternate install method".
Try following along with the video.
I've had full success with both methods, but once you try the "Alternate Method", the first method will not work. You'll need to start from a fresh install, or use the "Alternate Install" method with the video.

Then run the "alternative install method". You should get the test.log after rebooting twice as per install instructions.

Grrr... I got so happy thinking this was use the SD card has a SD card and internal memory as internal. I swap my memory card a lot and I'm sure that would be a problem. But this looks better then Directory Bind. Thanks.
Thread closed as per OP request.
Is it correct to say that those with the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 3 cannot install Linux on their phones because our kernel does not support loop devices, and we can't flash a different kernel because our boot loader is locked, and no one has figured out how to unlock it yet, and so if I want linux on my phone then I'll have to figure out how to unlock my boot loader?
Checking loop device... MISSING

That is correct locked bootloader = no flashing kernels
There are ways to install via VM though.

With VNC.
So we can install a virtual machine in android? I hadn't thought about that... I'll look into that option. Thank you.

Actually, I'm more interested in unlocking the boot loader. I am a developer, just not yet so much with android. This will be a good task for me to take on. Most of my work has been in Windows. I will publish my findings unless someone else beats me to it.

Good luck....
Thanks. I'll need it. It'll be fun though.

I've been wanting Linux on my note 3 since I had it on my HTC one X. It would be awesome to have it again
rooted with towelroot
Android SDK with eclipse installed.
Used adb shell to dump a few partitions to img files.
Installed linux reader to mount the partition images on my Windows 7 machine.
When I try to open the boot.img or aboot.img I get an error. I'm probably doing something wrong. I'll figure it out.
I will continue my efforts slowly but surely.
If anyone would like to chime in to give me any pointers I would appreciate it. If not, that's cool too. I have lots of reading to do.

getting Chroot
I've been using chroot for awhile now. I've had a rather nice setup on the stock NC2 (towelroot). I've had troubles with framebuffering, but XSDL with SHM works great, shell works fine too. I just flashed FireKat and have (as of today) just setup chroot. But both roms are setup the same way to get it working.
you probably have done this already but you need busybox. I also had a lot of problems until I sorted out the root using 'root' name instead of unknown uid:0. I don't know why this is an issue, I'm guessing on this, but i think deploy looks for the usr root when requesting su? Eitheway here's what I did in the past and just did today for Firekat.
1. Install AParted (easiest way) to partition SDcard.
- before starting the application unmount the SDcard in settings
partition the SDcard ext4. ( I split mine in two partitions)

2. Install Deploy Linux (easiest way i think)
Go to settings uncheck use built-in shell.
Update the ENV
Setup the properties of this chroot (little download button in the bottom)
Setup your distro ( ones i've used are Kali, Debian wheezy, ubuntu 12 & 13)
Change installation to 'Partion'
Installation path: you'll can get this from Aparted if needed, but probably /dev/block/mmcblk1XX replace the XX with whatever part you put the ext4 on. (my pictures show me putting ext4 first, so it would be mmcblk1p1 )
Change Filesystem to ext4
Then install. Takes around 30 min or so for me.
( got dbus error for vnc in firekat, but it still works out )
Then you're all set to do what you do.
I'll come back to this posting later tonight and clean it up, in a bit of a hurry right at the moment. sorry about the images, i guess I need posting lessons.
did this end up working for you guys?
is anyone working with freedraeno drivers with the note3? i can't seem to find anyone talking about this stuff at all... might start a thread on it in dev.
You can also just dump your rootfs in /data. Since Note 3 is datamedia-based it has a huge ext3 data partition shared for apps and user data. You can take advantage of this by sticking your chroot there and having access to shared space. Then just write a script to chroot into /data/debian or whatever distro you use. I've been using this for a few months with great success.
