Finally got my tax return and decided to drop it on a Nexus 7. Anything I should be made aware of?
What are the good mods/ROMS?
What apps just look and feel amazing on this thing?
That there are stickies and a search button?
out of curiosity.
Thread title to message ? any connection?
Fastboot oem unlock
Very first thing to do on a Nexus, then use stock for a while.
Then update to 4.2.2, either by OTA or adb sideload.
You may be happy enough with stock. If you want to flash stuff, give cm10.1 a try. If you find cm10.1 too much (or too bloated with features you don't need), try out Rasbean.
But ROMs haven't been updated to 4.2.2 as the device specific sources are not out yet on AOSP, so staying on stock 4.2.2 with an unlocked bootloader will be a good idea. In fact, hat's what I'm doing right now.

So I was wondering how I can get the Jellybean OS to run on my Captivate?
Links or guides or anything would help.
thanks~
JB ROMs
Hi,
in the Development forum you can already find 2 ROMs that are based on JB, namely Slim Bean and Unofficial Cyanogenmod 10. First failed to install for me (rebootet while flashing) [EDIT: I was in fact doing it wrong, works for me now, thanks to b-eock], second had data issues, which can supposedly solved by turning Flight Mode on and off.
CM10V7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783064
Slim Bean: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795770
Guides are linked in the posts.
You have to flash it twice -_- dont make him think something is wrong with the rom... It has to do with the new kernel and partition layout.

Well, at least that fails for me, unfortunately I can't yet post in the developer board.
However CM10V7 is kind of working for me. To get mobile data connection I had to turn on Flight Mode and Turn it off again. Unfortunately Wechat (formerly Weixin) stopped working, don't know who is to blame in that matter.

Ask and you shall receive. Here's my write up and supplement to the instructions on the ROMs' forums.

Also remember to do a wipe the first time you flash and the second time if it reboots during the initial flash. I made that mistake and had major issues. On the first boot everything that tried to load force closed. It was a simple fix though just went in wiped and re-flashed.
that reminds me, is there necessarily a huge benefit to upgrading OS?
or if not jellybean if someone can also point me towards an OS that runs better than gingerbread o:
I haven't tried anything but Slim Bean as far as jelly bean ROMs go but if you are looking for a good stable build I would stay away from jelly bean for the time being. I say that because its a new OS and hasn't had all the bugs worked out yet at least as far as I've read.
There are several ICS ROMs out there that are available. If you look through the development forums you'll find more than you can read through. The few that I've tried have all been better than gingerbread.

With the EU bug lurking around in the ICS roms, I'd steer clear of ICS on your Cappy until a fix is found, otherwise you risk a potentially permanent nerf of your phone's internal memory. Just sayin'
I had an i9300 (first Android phone) and loved installing all these different ROMs and whatnot, and then got the i9305 upon release, and much to my dismay there is hardly any development going on for this phone.
Oh well, Nova Launcher quenched my stock Android thirst -enough- whilst I wait for a stock android release on this hardware, and after leaving it for some time I almost forgot about it.
Then I noticed Premium Suite, and lyriquidperfections pre-rooted ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942150).
After looking to see if CM10 exists on the i9305 yet I came across this website, which contradicts discussion going on in the development thread here (can't post due to being newbie so sorry if this isn't in the right place).
http://www.techethon.com/update-galaxy-s3-i9305-4g-to-android-4-2-1-via-cyanogenmod-10-1/
Is this legit? Just wondering...
Thanks guys, I love this community <3
Lmfao, he mention cm 10.1 for the Epic 4g, he have no idea what he's talking about! It's two completely different phones. Don't try download what he says!
*edit*
Clicked the link and it brought me to the unofficial CM 10.1 for the i9305 which is still in pre alpha, it cant be downloaded yet.
Wow, the guy who wrote that article is really confusing me!

I'm using the stock one that came with trick droid.
AFAIK sources haven't been released for 4.2.2 so everyone's using modded 4.1.2 ones. With that in mind there's not that many great ones out there. Lots of features that were present on 4.1 aren't there.
Just so you know, this thread will probably get closed. There's no which is the best this or that threads allowed on xda.
Just so u know.

Until HTC releases their source for 4.2.2 you won't find anything really other than a modded stock, as mentioned above. Your best bet is to bookmark a few threads in the Android & Original Android development forums and check back frequently. I'd assume by the end of the month we'l see new kernels.
Can't wait for some real custom kernels.

you named a few "bests", which i disagree with you. they are best for you, and your device, and no more than that. and, you mention supercharged, how are you going to show us that its "super charged" any more than any other combination. personally, ive found other rom/kernel combos to be faster/quicker than that combo.
He's happy people. Get over it. He made a thread. At least its relevant and not some dumb question or trolling. Ur all trolls. I'm a troll. He's not.

being happy with your setup is all that you can ask for, and that is great for the op. but im not trolling, im being realistic. if you post something online, you have be ready for posts that agree with and disagree with you. my point was that there is no best rom/kernel, there is only a best rom/kernel for your person device, and your own personal needs. all our devices differ and all our needs differ. so his best setup can turn out to be someone elses worst setup.

since we have a working kitkat safestrap now will the pacman rom thread in development be reopened again? and has anyone tried it since we can flash it now with safestrap???? id like to see the pacman rom grow on this device as I've used it on my s3 and optimus g pro (g pro never had a unlocked bootloader and still may not as I havent checked, we used freegee to bypass) and would like the thread to reopen now that we can flash on 4.4
If it were only that simple, aosp roms require the flashing of different kernels. which we can't do because of a locked bootloader
ah I see. just thought id ask. seeing the g pro had a bypass using freegee kernels were flashable too and pretty much everything else. I talked to the person for freegee and he was interested in helping but he needs files from our at&t n3 that I dont have time to pull right now.
What files need to be pulled? I'm sure if you list them, I or someone else can and will grab them.
