Not sure if this is the right section for this, or if it goes in Development. But anyone wanting the 4.2.2 factory image (no pre-rooting done etc) so they can go ahead and update before the OTA update, here it is.

Also, apologies if this has been posted directly already, but I figure someone may want it 'as is' by Google.

Theoretically this might work. Can you use the first backup that was made when you first rooted your phone to go back below 7.893

You can but there are several partitions that will not be restored (cdt.bin, recovery, boot (where kernel is located), as well as the radios). As long as this is true. You cannot be complete stock or flash any updates. As of now, if you are on 5.7.893, best to stay there and wait for a compatible update maybe in the future.

Well i was looking around on your cheesecake leak to complete stock forum and on page 5 a person named wingrider1964 used this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279825
the user chose 5 and and installed cheesecake and he got the ota update to 5.8.894. I am going to pm him and see what he says. At this point i dont mind if I lose root i have a Droid Eris that i can play around with. AGAIN LOSING ROOT IS NOT A BIG DEAL lol
I just posted on another thread about 5.7.893 or any other cheesecake leaked updates. (Not to be confused with "OTA" updates as they aren't). Anyone who has a non-OTA update installed right now, is screwed for the moment. There is no way back. This is the joys of a locked bootloader. The OTA updates out there are patching known versions to the new version. So, for example, the 5.5.886->5.5.893 update patches files from 5.5.886 including the boot image. The 5.5.893->5.9.901 update then patches the 5.5.893 files including the boot image. Those updates can *ONLY* be applied to the version they are meant to update. What we need is a full update installer that doesn't care what version you're on (ideal IMO) or an update made specifically for 5.7.893 (or whatever leak you're on). That's it. Our only options.
On the plus side nothing is wrong with my phone knock on wood i just would like to be on the path for ota
I forgot i also found this http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-bionic-forum/9800-how-get-your-phone-back-upgrade-path-3.html
I understand that by being BL unlocked and rooted, I won't be able to get OTA's, and that I will have to flash any updates I want myself. I'm ok with that. What I don't know since I'm new to the Nexus world (I was a rom flashing madman with my Galaxy Note 2), is how to tell when there's a new update to flash, and where to find it. For example, Google's "factory images" web site currently showsLRX210, which is the build on my unlocked and rooted N6.
Does that mean there are no updates available yet?
Or will updates come in small pieces that do not alter the build number?
And where will we find factory updates? Over at Google's factory images site?

Yes you're on the latest updated firmware. As far as taking otas it's my understanding you may be able to take them as long as you put the stock recovery back on your phone instead of Twrp. Not sure myself, haven't tried it.
You can still check for updates using the System Update feature so you can keep track that way.
Devs may also create flashable zips of Ota's as well, so that may be another option in the future. This is also my first Nexus and this is my understanding of how things will be progressing.

You'll be prompted if there's an update unless you disable the prompts.
If the build number on your phone matches an image they're the same.
Images released by Google will be on their factory image page.
Sometimes factory images that have not been posted by Google are posted by other parties.
First, sorry for creating another thread.
After reading and reading, I see that rooting Lollipop is very hit or miss and I'm not confident in trying too much. I'll stay in KitKat for now. So, anyone knows which is the lastest version of KitKat? I've seen posted at least two sites of firmwares, but both were down. In my case I'll need for XT1063. I haven't seen it, but does some kind of patch exist? Like if it was the OTA update, but as a zip or something to install manually. Or I must flash the entire firmware?
Assuming I get the zip file, I unlock my bootloader and follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/restore-to-stock-t2873657
And then root with CF-Auto-Root or this (I'd like to be as stock as possible, only rooting):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/guide-root-moto-g-2014-flash-custom-t2955243
And one last question. If at some later time I decide to go with the OTA Lollipop, how do I undo the root? Can it be done from within the phone? (like just deleting SuperSU). Or do I have to flash something else?
Thanks to all
Edit: It seems a similar thread was created before mine, maybe I didn't refresh so I didn't see it. Well, there is one of the downed sites:

Hi guys,
Stupidly flashed TWRP a while ago for rooting purposes, without making a backup of the stock recovery for my device, thinking i'd be able to find factory images later on. I've had a good search around on Google and here, and can't find the exact one for my device, lots of 'similar', but none that are quite the same.
The end goal is to get back to stock so I can accept the 5.0+ OTAs from my carrier, which are currently blocked because of the non-stock recovery.
I have an XT1092, system version 21.21.42.victara_retgb_retgball.en.GB, currently running 4.4.4.
I did manage to find a 5.0 stock image, but fear that flashing the recovery may brick/damage the device. Everything else I've found is for RETEUALL or similar, not RETGBALL - which from what I understand won't do what i'm after, not at least without some side effects.
From asking Motorola support directly, they don't offer the stock images for this device, which I found disappointing, everything seems to be very skewed towards US builds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
jagw.
I dangerously took the plunge, and the 5.0 factory image that I had found works to flash on this device.
For anyone else that had an issue around OTA updates for 5.0 on the retgball version of the phone, I followed the steps on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...tory-image-android-5-0-lollipop-moto-t3001221
But using the file http://www.filefactory.com/file/7l2t09ylrh9f/RETGBALL_XT1092_5.0_LXE22.46-19_cid7_CFC.xml.zip - which is the factory 5.0 image for the RETGBALL XT1092.
Just in case any one else is ever in the same boat!

If anyone has a Fire tablet on 5.0.1 or has recently received one from Amazon but not yet powered it on and is willing to help out please do.
As mentioned in several other threads, when upgraded to 5.1.1 we lose custom recovery access. If you try to downgrade you get a brick.
What we need is, a 5.0.1 device that is rooted, sees the update, someone will to risk upgrading to 5.1.1 (should be able to stop it) and the ability grab the bin file from /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.device.software.ota/ once it downloads.
If someone is will to try this, post here before turning on a new tablet or trying the upgrade and we can provide step-by-step instructions.
I am currently asking amazon to send me the update so I can "manually update" it myself. Not sure if this has been tried. Will get back.
EDIT: I was told that I would be able to download it when it was released on the software updates page.
Not for the thread, this has been done now.
