hi,
my titl, suddenly stop to detect any Sd i put inside...
i tried everything, h.Reset, reflashing..but nothing worked..
I don't if HTC coul service my tilt, since i'm located in italy and my phone (unlocked) is AT-T branded...
any hint for the repair????
Um.. try putting your SD into a card reader. Go to radioshack. They are dirt cheap. If the reader can detect the card. Move all items to your desktop and reformat the SD card. Slowly start putting back all the stuff into the SD card. It may be a corruption in the card. Expect to pay around 5-10 dollars for a card reader.. dirt cheap.
I had the same thing happen to me. It was a specific brand and got corrupted. I bought a new (different brand) SD card and it worked great. matter of fact its been working great ever since.
(sorry not sure if i can mention brands)
i tried the micro Sd (i have 3 of them :1gb and 4gb from SXX Disk, 2gb from PXXK)and none worked.
inserted in my friend Tilt, they worked correctly.
..so i suppose 99% it's a tilt issue,how can i address it?
i supposse AT-t will never do some warranty on my device..
actually if you are still under warranty they will send you another one. It's a device defect.

If thats the case, then Yes you may be under warranty. Explain your issue to them.

the worst thing is that i need my tilt GPs function for tomorrow since i'll leave for holidays!!!
same problem
Hey I have the same exact problem! Did you ever find out how to fix it? If so please help!
Hi guys,
I have just bought my Tilt 8925. Everything is going fine except the Storage card, the PDA seems not able to read the storage card - Kingston 1G mircoSD.
I tried something like:
- Format the card with my PC and copy some file into the card but when I use File Explorer to find the card, nothing there.
- Check About: Expansion slot: In use
- Check Memory: Total storage card memory: Not installed.
What should I do to make the PDA recognize the card? Any help is much appreciated.
Hi there
Have you tried formatting the card with the PDA instead of the PC? I'm sure Windows Mobile has the setting somewhere (can't think off the top of my head!)
Or, could use 3rd party software like Pocket Mechanic to format it?

I have used Pocket Mechanic but even this software can not find the storage card. I have also tried with a few other cards but the phone can not read either.
What should I do now?
I think you may have a bad storage card. Have you tried another one?
If you try another and it still fails to read the card then it is the Tilt, but try another card first.

If you've tried other cards, then it seems like your phone has a hardware problem with the microSD slot. If you're still under the 1 year warranty, it should be covered.
Had a similar problem with my htc tytn ii (not tilt). Was a day away from booking it in for repairs when I downloaded the official WM6.1 rom. Flashed it and it worked.
Then it worked again. Hard reset didn't do the trick for me.
Thanks all guys
I have tried all solution that I could find from forum, google...But I have to convince myself that it is hardware problem.
I will flash another ROM as last hope.
I have the same problem for about 1month now.. It just stopped reading the mem card.. After a few days, I was able to see the card again in the device's file explorer, but after a few minutes it desappeared (lol)
I needed my tytnII, so I haven't send the device for repairs yet, but I will tomorrow..
I tried everything possible (tried to use other mem cards, flash offcial roms, cooked light roms, etc) but nothing worked.. And my mem card is read by other devices.. I'm also convinced it is a hardware prob..
Just be sure to revert to an official rom and revert the SPL as well, so you don't void the warranty.. You can find the instructions here
Cheers
Hi again
I know this doesn't really help but I had a similar problem with an SD card I bought for a digital camera a while ago (256MB card - biggest there was when I bought it )
I had bought 2 cameras and 2 cards (one for me, one for my dad). His memory card just refused to work in either of the cameras, but worked fine in my Nokia 6600 (told you it was a while ago!). Tried formatting with the PC, phone etc. but nothing worked - had to get a new SD card in the end to replace it
I'm having the same problem. Expansion slot says it's in use, but file explorer shows no card installed. Settings - Memory says no installation. Do you really think flashing a 6.1 rom might help?

Who are you asking?
Does it not see other cards? Even after a hard reset? If you don't have 6.1 then I would say that you are behind the times.
ChumlyEX:
I've read plenty of posts saying that 6.0 is preferred for many situations, stability among them. I just moved to ppc and haven't flashed yet. Do you recommend a specific cooked version?
Very Similar Problem
Hey everyone, before anyone says anything, i researched this pretty good and havent seen an issue similar to mine and this thread is a bit old so i might start a new one.
My problem is that my at&t Tilt is only reading one of my microsd cards,
they are all sandisk, they range from 64mb, 128, 256, (3 different 1 gig) 2 gig and a 4gig sdhc
the tilt reads the 128 with no problems, the others, in About section it shows expansion slot in use, but under Memory it says not installed. does the same for all except the 128mb
i tried them on another tilt, they all work fine
i tried them on my htc wizard, they work fine (with the exception of the 4g sdhc) because wizard has no support for sdhc.
they are all formatted over and over, tried fat32, and fat16 using windows xp, also tried formatting using good old DOS
Scanned them for visruses, none found
I just got the phone so i dont knonw much about the history of the situation, however it had original ship rom, tried reflashing, upgrading to different at&t roms (3 total) tried custom roms.
anyway if anyone reads this and knows something it would be very helpful
Thanks
I had the same problem. My Tytn stopped seeing storage card. I tried another card, same problem. I've flashed the ROM, same problem again. So I guessed it's not the software problem, it is hardware. I gave my device to repair store and they realized that one pin from card reader slot was broken and unable to read card.
That happen because the card I bought was just a slight wider than it should be, it's card manufacturers problem. And when I was putting that card in the slot, it broken one of the pins. It's unable to see it through slot, you need to open device.
They needed to replace whole slot and that cost me about 250 Euros.
****ty thing..
p.s. If you planing to return your phone to repair store and you still got warranty, be sure that you put back original ROM, if you have flashed now. They will not approve you warranty if you have custom ROM
Feedback changed flex cable
ok so this is intressting, and as i was saying in my previous post, there was no problem with the cards (that im aware of) and they worked on my friends tilt, so after some convincing, i got him to agree to let me take his phone apart this morning and swap up the cables so i dont go and buy a flex cable and it turns out its not it. well i took em both apart (without braking anything!!) and i power it up, and guess what, it did the exact same thing!!!!
so a working flex cable did not solve the problem, i tried my cable in his phone, and it worked, read about 7 different micro sd cards!
unless its the motherboard of the phone, or it has to be some software that a hard reset or oem rom wont fix.
there has to be something, i just wish i could find it!
well yesterday i was drunk and dropped my tilt into a toilet full of piss. I took it out to dry, took battery out and shut it off... i forgot to take out my microsd card though.
My tilt is working somewhat fine but its still clearly water damaged. same problem with all of u.. my phoen wont read the microSD card now and i cant load up android which is bull****. so it must be a hardware problem imo
that sux to hear, well i dont belive mine got wet, not that i know of and no signs of water intrusion on the little white water detectors. I am still trying different sdhc drivers but nothing yet
I solved my problem with a new front board and main ribbon. Swapped them out and everything reads perfectly. I paid around $30 or so on ebay for the part.

lucky you!! i did that and it didn't change anything
i even swaped boards, sim card reader, lcd screen, but it has to be something in the main board, i still belive it's a software issue or firmware maybe, something still stuck on that board, i tried it all from hard resets to different roms, spls, radios, reverting back to ship rom, other official roms and nothing. expension slot shows in use, but no storage card with the exception of a couple of different small ones that will show in file explorer, i can install cabs from them but cant really copy anything from device to card or card to device this is so annoying. I even went out and bought a new micro sd and ended up returning it cuz it did the same thing
Final Update
well i was sure that it had something to do with the board of the phone or at least a software or registry issue that was causing this problem, after being 100% sure that it wasnt the flex cable or anything I was lucky to find a motherboard for $26.50 (with shipping) on ebay, so i didn't even hesitate, baught it, swaped the camera (it was the only thing missing) and everything works! i dont know what i'm gona do with the board, but i doubt that im gona give up on figuring out what caused this problem and how to fix it, and i will keep on checking this thread on regular basics
I've been using a Wizard (T-Mobile MDA) for awhile, but I recently acquired an old, used Kaiser (AT&T Tilt) and would love to use it, as it's much faster than my Wizard. However the USB port on the Kaiser is broken (It charges fine, just doesn't connect to ActiveSync) and I was wondering if there was a way for me to install a ROM on the Kaiser without connecting to USB. Or if there's a known way to fix the issue (although I doubt that since it seems like just a broken hardware problem and not a software issue).
What I had in mind was installing from a MicroSD card, because I can put the MicroSD in my Wizard (I have a MicroSD to SD adaptor) and use ActiveSync to get the ROM on there, and then install. I have no idea if this is possible at *all* but if it is, it'd be great to know.
If there's another way, that's cool too.
Thanks in advance!

Try very carefully wiggling the usb plug around, or even squeezing it in a little.
If you look around there should even be guides on how to bend the connectors so it will work again.
You probably figured out already that a faulty usb port is quite common with the kkaiser.
But if that doesn't work, you can always flash from a SD Card, wich doesn't need a work around with active sync, just writing the correct files to the sd card using a card reader works fine too, there should be a guide somewhere in the ROM sub-forums.
Well the bizarre thing is that it still *charges* via USB... that wouldn't happen if the pins were bent would it? (I dunno, I'm kinda slow. I'll take a look under better light when I post this.
Also I've looked all over for a guide or thread for it... It's probably hiding in plain sight... Anyone here know how to do it? I'm not new to ROMs (Got Button's ROM on my Wizard and Dutty's on the Kaiser) so I don't need super-detailed instructions... Just basic info and any not-obvious tips on anti-brick prevention.
Well it appears I'm stupid...
Little inspection showed the pins were bent a tad... little effort repaired this issue.
Little glue will ensure that it's permanent...
Assuming I have the balls to use super glue in there... (I don't)
Same problem, but can't figure it out. The inner connector seems to be ok, I've even tried various cables, but each of them charged only ..
well, a little searching wouldve shown that you can throw any *.nbh file on the root of the sdcard (renamed to KAISIMG.NBH) and hold the camera button during boot, if you've hardSPL'd it should work fine, will prompt you on the screen to continue.

Well, I have HardSPL on the phone, but it does not properly work for me. It works only for some stock ROMs. In other cases the phone just hangs at the "Loading..." screen.
Then just follow the steps to upgrade your hardspl by SD card method. Upgrading the spl should allow flashing of more roms.
Is it possible to flash in JumpSPL mode from a MicroSD card? It seems that I have no other option, because of the connection between my PC and the phone that seized to work.

Well, actually this is something I was thinking of ..
Something went wrong with my Tilt this weekend. The phone still works fine, but it won't read *any* memory card I put into it.
if I go to the Memory control panel, it shows no storage card.
However, if I go to the "About" control panel, it does properly show "expansion slot" in use or not in use as I insert or remove the memory cards.
I have reformatted one card, made no difference, run scandisk on the file systems on the cards, and all is fine. Tried a card from a friend's winmo phone and it doesnt work, and my card works fine in his phone.
Also tried re-flashing the rom (standard winMo 6.1) to no avail.
It definitely seems to be a hardware problem.
Any suggestions before I go out and buy a new phone?
And since I'm looking for a new phone, any suggestions where I can pick up a Tilt 2/Touch Pro 2 for a reasonable price (other than AT&T?)
Sorry to bring this dead post out again, but this weekend, I've had the same issue occur.
I have a 16GB Geniune Kingston SDHC, which has been used now since Xmas, with no problems!
Saturday night, I went to play some music off it, and Audio Manager reported no music, going into File Manager shows no SD Card.
So Sunday Morning, I checked the card in my PC, which is fine, copied the files off for safe measure, Formatted to Fat32, and reinserted the card > Nothing.
Tried another card (2 Gb Sandisk) also nothing.
Having used the above, I've only just gone into "About" and displays the Expansion slot as In Use.
Does anyone have any ideas? I can't live without my music!!!
Oh, and I have performed a Master Reset.
I'm using the Stock HTC Rom, which is wwe (should be in my sig).
i ended up ordering a new flex cable from a vendor on ebay - $22.
It is the cable that connects the display, to the lower half of the tilt, includes the nav button board, memory card board, etc.
Takes a bit of time to disassemble and install, but that solved the problem. The old cable was wearing out and breaking.
Damn. Shame I can't afford the cable, or have the confidence to do that to my phone!
Think I'd be best selling it as partially faulty now then...
Either that, or if someone's willing to repair it for me cheaply?
I'm about to start saving for a blackberry though, so may simply sell the HTC, which'll be a shame, as I love my phone.
I hope you guys can help me with the following problem.
I have bought a 16gb MicroSD card (it says it's class 4) from eBay. I copied the files from my old 8gb card to my PC and from there copied the files onto the 16gb card (I put it in an SD adapter and into a USB-stick/adapter and plugged it into a USB port on my computer).
The copying seemed to go well. But when I put the card in my HD2 it can't find the files it's supposed to find. When I put the card back in the USB stick most of the files are replaced by one with a strange code, so all the files I had copied seem to be gone.
I checked if the card was actually 16gb and it was.
Any suggestions for what might cause this problem?

Two possibilities.
1: "most of the files are replaced by one with a strange code" = You're in the Matrix, agents are coming, RUN
2: You have a dodgy card or a dodgy card adapter.
Format the card, copy files one at a time via active sync. If that doesn't work it's a dodgy card.
i don't want to open another topic... i'm about to buy a 16gb card... what should i look for?... i want something to sustain long video shots... that's why i go 16gb...
so... anyone has a recomandation as in brand or technical details....?
Hi
In my experience when you copy files to any memory stick or card and they become garbage text and can not be found by your device or pc it means it is a fake card and not the stated size. SEND IT BACK !!!
If its cheap its bound to be fake!!
There is a tool online to test memory cards and usb flash drive to prove if they are fake and can hold the amount of data stated.

Hi, that's what I thought at first, but I used such a tool (I may haven't used it the right way though, should check this out again) and it said it actually is 16 gb. If it keeps giving errors it may be fake, I knew the risk when buying the card (it was cheap, but didn't buy it with Buy It Now, just by bidding). We'll seee what happens, if it keeps giving the errors, I may wait until the 32gb is released.
Ok, I've tested the card and it turns out it's defective. So I'm going to ask for a refund. New and more trustworthy 16 gb card already ordered (still a bit cheaper than the soon-to-arrive 32 gb ).
