1. Unlocking the bootloader is pretty much everything. Its required for flashing a recovery, flashing ROMs, u name it.
2. If you follow the guide i created, (and if i remember correctly) u shudnt need to unlock the bootloader again but it really shouldnt matter considering the fact that your phone has jsut been wiped and u should still have the unlock code HTC sent u for unlocking the bootloader.
3. Yes of course... If you do not have a recovery, then nothing will happen cuz theres nothing there....

OK, I'm going to have to step in here.
The OP states that he has S-OFF with everything else stock.
At this point, he can install a custom recovery and then flash any custom ROM he wants. He does not have unlock the bootloader or go through the downgrade procedure to gain S-OFF because he already has permanent S-OFF.

You need to flash a custom recovery such as 4EXT recovery or ClockworkMod recovery and that is the tool you use to flash custom ROMs.
Please check the sticky posts in this section on how to flash a custom recovery.

excuse me can you tell me is there any kernel for sense4 roms with good power saving and high performance and with multitouch fixed????

Lol Redux is the kernel used in Project_X_Rebirth and Sabsa Prime. The kernel is the one cuasing the multitouch so no, if you want a fixed multitouch kernel, then i would suggest hunterwu kernel.

Your best bet is to boot into recovery mode from fastboot usb mode using the following command:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Using this method, the boot partition should be unlocked in recovery and you can flash the kernel.
To be honest I don't think you can unless the kernel is in .img format or you are s-off.

Good call. Thanks for that reminder! HBOOT 2.00.0000 has a new /LIB partition that comes into play and will prevent the custom kernel from flashing properly, thus the wifi error will occur.

Flash the boot.img via fastboot then you need to copy / push the corresponding bcm4329.ko file for the kernel into /system/lib/modules/ i just do it via a file manager with superuser. Job done!
Or there is a ICSQuattroDrivers.zip file containing the wifi driver that you flash via recovery. Not sure where I found it as I'm using the latest Tiamat now, it's rather nice.

yes first rule is unlock bootloader...posts all around this forum
second is to install cwm recovery, without this u cannot root.
thirdly u need to flash the root.zip file in cwm to enable root itself. easy to do, check out this forum, ive added in some tutorials and guides to help u along the way
how to unlock bootloader
To unlock the bootloader when i visit htcdev.com and select my device,it says hboot update required...now what does that mean?
Exactly as it ssays, update your hboot.
Once updated u can unlock the bootloader. Its safe, we have all done it.
U will need your phone plugged into PC and on charge mode to do that.

can you elaborate on this? truer recovery's? we only have 2, I'm also assuming this is when adding recovery to the phone itself?
if you can get a photo or screenshot showing me it may help.
Sorry it was tryed a few recoveries. I have since manages to get root but now my hboot says main version is older and just wants me to reboot phone so can't.access recovery

You're hboot will be the latest. As for recovery we use 5.0.2.6 really. If its not letting you boot into recovery, tends to mean it's not installed correctly. Once recovery is there it can always be accessed. The root itself should have taken care of the basics and given u superuser access.
If u have working root. Go and install superSU from the market, its better. Works faster and has fewer problems. Just remember once u install it. Open the app and update the binary.
This should correct a load of root errors.
If u have to, reinstall recovery again. Could be a bad install.
BigBearEvo is using Xparent tapatalk 2 ICS on CM7
Which hboot version do you have? When it is 1.08. then it is fine.
How did you flash your recovery? Maybe something went wrong in that step. The only working recoveries are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791707. Commonly used is the ClockworkMod Recovery and a description how to flash is also there.
Maybe do some photos of your screen to find out the problem.

when you get to these screens post up your HBOOT version.
You cannot unlock your Bootloader without updating to HBOOT V1.08
right u don't need hboot to install recovery.
u need bootloader/fastboot to install recovery.
connect your cable. pc & phone
select charge option on phone
open a cmd prompt window (DOS)
now you need to follow the adb cmds.
myself i have it loaded as follows, change yours accordingly
c:/cd android-sdk
c:/cd platform-tools
adb reboot bootloader
if you cannot do this via cable then you require to remove the battery, reinsert, hold volume key down and power on.
select fastboot option.
this should take you to the bootloader
now if you have recovery placed in the correct folder ie platform-tools
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
this will install your recovery to your phone.
OR Go here! >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791707

CWM / RA Recovery and custom hboot

Hi,
I want to flash the Jelly-Bean-Rom of reider on my Nexus one. I am currently running on CM7.2 and have already installed 4ext-Recovery and Blackrose.
Afaikt are there problems with 4ext at the moment when you want to flash custom hboots on your NexusOne. So my question is, is it possible to just install CWM or RA-Recovery on my CM7.2 and flash the needed hboot afterwards? Do I need a special recovery?
I read many manuals how to flash a custom hboot etc. but I wasn't able to find a definitive answer, if I have to install Recovery again after upgrading hboot or not. _And_ if I need a special recovery.
Help is appreciated!

You don't need any special recovery if you flash the partition scheme via fastboot. How this works is explained in the Evervolv Jellybean Thread. Your recovery should be untouched by this procedure. Alternatively you can switch your recovery to use flashable zips from this thread, but it is not necessary.
Run or phone at normal mode. Connect USB to or phone open black rose there are options u can choose pick the one that resizes or hbot.

if you are flashing hboot via fastboot/blackrose then u dont need to change recovery.
if u want to change hboot via recovery(4ext) then follow this post and see if it helps. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30271020&postcount=124
and yes you can change to either cwm or amon n flash those hboots. cos it sometimes doesnt work wid 4ext...

Help Needed!! Urgent

Hello All,
Let me give you full history. I was on stock ICS. I unlocked bootloader from htcdev and installed cwm recovery. Then I flashed Nik JB Evolution rom. I worked like charm. Then I thought of flashing another sense rom, so I flashed that rom but it didn't boot. Then I flashed the boot.img file but still that didn't helped. I read through the contents of that rom thread and it said that my phone should be S-Off. So I S-Offed my phone by revolutionary and installed 4ext recovery. But even now after flashing any other rom, the phone doesn't boot up. All I can do is to restore te Nik JB rom and run it. I even tried flashing CM7 and this updating my hboot by blackrose installer, but that too didn't help.
Any help solving this problem will be highly highly appreciated.

Do one thing ...if the problem still persist ... download the official ICS rom and relock ur bootloader ! and den flash it ...u ll be again in stock ICS ..after then again ... unlock it ... flash the rom or ur choice , flash boot.img ! and den u r ready to go !!
just a suggestion for u ... dont flash any rom blindly , first go thru the post and den think that is it worth flashing or not !!
i personally prefer not to unlock bootloader by blockrose .. unlocking the bootloader by HTC dev is much more safer than any other method !! the plus point is u can revert back to STOCK rom any time if some thing goes wrong !! but in blockrose and other methods , chances of bricking ur fone is much higher !! thats my opinion !!
Thanks for the reply. I made the backup of my official stock ROM. When i restored it, even that's not booting up.
How can i proceed?

There is no ROM installed on your deivce or you have flashed the wrong img.file..If im not mistaken u have flashed it over and s-on device was it dev unlocked? . If u can boot into recovery try to mount the sd card via the recovery and install a stock rom and flash the boot.img (extracted from the rom) via CMD
If your device says RELOCKED in bootloader just got to htcdev web and unlock the device again
thx for quick answer
i installed the boot.img of the revolution hd rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088498

Ok
1. Post exactly what it says in the bootloader screen. (Take a picture or just type it all out)
2. Follow through the entire guide to the bottom. You will need S-OFF for some ROMs.
3. The stuff you find in the downloads section on htcdev.com is mostly kernel sources.
4. You need to flash the ENTIRE ROM through recovery. The boot.img just contains some kernel parts while the ROM contains the apps and the framework, bootanimation etc. (you didn't actually think an android system could be compressed down to about 1mb did you ._. )

4. You need to flash the ENTIRE ROM through recovery. The boot.img just contains some kernel parts while the ROM contains the apps and the framework, bootanimation etc. (you didn't actually think an android system could be compressed down to about 1mb did you ._. )

What you downloaded from htcdev.com wasn't a ROM or an RUU. It was a kernel source...
And to find a flashable ROM, go to android development section for the HTC Incredible S here on XDA. Find a ROM, and click download link in the OP of the respective ROM page.
