Screencast only work for armv7 device so if x8 is armv6 it cant be run. I dont know if x8 it armv6 or not.

I dont know how to do it in the stock rom. I used to be able to do it in some CyanogenMod roms.

The feature is there in the unofficial cm7 by Team Adreno I think.
Im currently running official cm7 so i cant tell.

I'm on the latest nightly! You need to go to Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Interface>Status Bar Tweaks and change carrier label type to custom and then you can set your carrier label!

Should work fine on P5xxx, and on Tw or Cm based roms. Works on my s2 running cm10.2., I would do a back up of your current though just to have it in case something was to go wrong. But you shouldnt have any issues its versatile
