I really like the black model but am really worried the black will easily scratch of and look horrible. Thoughts?
It concerns me too, time will tell.
I ordered the black one, time will tell.
Of course it will scratch, it would be good if the colour was in the alloy, so that it wouldn't be noticable
I buy Black one bit scratches concerns me too
You guys should watch this to have a better view of anodization.
It isn't metal plating and isn't like paint where you apply it on top of aluminum.
What we need to worry is if HTC rushes up the process since anodization requires a lengthy amount of time and rushing it would only result to a thinner anodized layer which would result to the likes of the IPhone.
When proper anodization process is done it is very durable to the point that it is almost scratchless.
Look at this n8 scratch test(n8 uses anodized aluminum case also) when he scratched the case with a coin instead of the case getting scratched the coin was the one that got eroded.
Another thing to consider would be HTC's track record so far.
Have they anodised previously?
If so, was it any good?
That would be a good indicator for this model.
If the One S is anything to go by, you're new black phone will look like ****e by the end of the week. My friend has one and the corners and edges were down the silvery alloy in no time. It looks bloody awful like he dropped it.
Solution! Buy a black marker pen. Its like makeup for your crappy HTC phone!

Yes but not like a whole phone. They have made an anodized metal on the mytouch 4g slide on the camera rim.

When I said my friend has one I was referring to an HTC one s as that is what I was using as an example. Of course he doesn't have an HTC one as it has not been released yet. What has the "HTC one s" got to do with it? It also had the anodized aluminum and looks like a right mess after a couple of weeks. Google it.
Calm down dear.. it's only a phone!

Ok great! And thanks! Didn't know the One S is using anodized aluminum also.
The grey one S is using anodized aluminium and has no chipping issues.
The black one S has a MAO layer, which has chipping issues, however, HTC quickly fixed it with newer models that had smoother/rounder edges and a bevelled USB port so the chipping didn't happen by itself. Saying that, I have had my one S since April (the first version) and it is still in perfect condition except the edges of the USB port.
AFAIK, the black "one" does not have a MAO finish.

Thank you! I just googled myself and yeah you are right. Only the black version was having the issue and not the grey one. So yes HTC seems to make durable anodized aluminum and apparently HTC One black isn't using MAO black but a real anodized aluminum finish.
I'm going with the silver due to the fact that my friends black iPhone 5 is ugly lol

My HTC One S scratched when it was first released. It was more of a chipping issue. However they fixed that problem within the coming months. So if they learned from their mistake they should be fine. Only time will tell, but for the sake of beating samsung I hope it doesn't scratch.
Throw a skin on it if you are worried. I have kids so my phone gets pretty rough use. I always use skins and a case.
My EVO-LTE is black aluminum body. No color chipping after almost a year. I have zero scratches, it has been in a case but the exposed parts are scratch free.

Is it fake?
I wonder if I can fix the scratches on my One-X with a black marker pen too ...
... and after I retrieved it from the mayhem and got into my other car to drive home, the car radio picked up it's bluetooth signal and it played me music for 15 minutes until the battery finally fried from impact damage. I was even able to read my phone stats on the car radio direct from my ex-One-X

After seeing two threads about painting the back of the N7, I decided I wanted to try some Plasti-Dip on my N7.
The Plasti-Dip came today, and I already had a green spraypaint I wanted to use on top of it (MTN Alien Mescalito Green).
So I decided I would test it out on cardboard first:
{

}
From left to right:
1. Plasti-dip, waited for it to dry, then applied spray paint on top
2. Plasti-dip, only waited for about 2 minutes, then applied spray paint.
3. Plasti-dip alone (yea it has some over spray on it)
Method 1 was just to make sure the Plasti-Dip is still easily removable with spray paint on top of it.
Method 2 was to see if I could save time by not having to remask after the Plasti-Dip dried.
Method 3 was just to test Plasti-Dip alone.
Eh so far so good. I proceeded to remove the back cover. Removed the buttons and the speaker grille as well:
Turns out the speaker grill is held on by three bits of melted plastic on the ends, the two visible pieces of tape, and some double sided tape:
Masked off a test area on my N7:
It turned out pretty nasty...
Dont mind the edges on the Plasti-Dip on that last picture. Its because I rushed to remove the masking tape after I saw the over spray seeping through the paper and lifting the masking tape (it seeped through the tape and ate the adhesive possibly?)
So yea, I heard Plasti-Dip is pretty porous when dry, its meant to create a grippy surface after all. But damn, I was hoping the "pores" wouldn't be so visible. Or I was hoping at least the pores would look more uniform. And no, letting it dry more wont make it better, it looked best when first applied ):
Good news is it all came off easily, left no marks behind. Speaker grill reattached easily as well. I just stuck it back on with the existing tape.
What next?
I'm wondering if I want to go through with it anyway. Going to find a piece of plastic I can test on. The cardboard was a good test to see how easily removable the paint is even on such a porous original surface, but I dont think its a good representation of how good it will look in the end.
I may also just wait for spare parts to be available and grab a back cover to paint with spray paint only, no Plasti-Dip.
All in all, this experiment cost me around $18. Plasti-Dip was $13 after shipping (local stores only had black) and the Alien paint was $5.
Was looking forward to seeing more pictures on the thread. I've worked with plastidip a lot on cars and random items and its great stuff. I like how if you don't like it it can easily be pulled off. The trick however is using a lot of small coats that add up which will make it thicker and easier to peel off or just thicker to get it to the consistency you're looking for.
Yea sorry to dissapoint haha.
This being my first try on the N7, I wanted to make sure the Plasti-Dip doesnt damage the rubbery finish of our N7s.
May try again this coming week, larger area, more drying time and more layers. To see if the porous texture improves.
Also, the Plasti-Dip peeled off VERY easily from the N7's back. And this is with me prepping the surface by cleaning it.
I have done plastic dip on car parts but no way I will put it on the back of the Nexus 7. It will make the tablet look cheap up close and it gets dirty easily.

Thats the beauty of plasdip always can go back to the original post up some pics if you give it a second shot!
Is the whole reason for this so you can paint it that terrible green colour? I don't get the point here.... N7 already has a really nice grippy and nice feeling back on it.
Now if it were a slick-as-glass polished plastic, I'd understand wanting to make it more grippy..
Yea the point was so I could paint it any color I want and revert back to original without any damage
The green IS deeper than I expected it to be though. Was looking for more of a light mint green color.
Double post.

Its not that bad. The outer coating which is the "leather like" feel is stained in some areas and peeled off in others. I tried to clean the stains and pulled the soft plastic coating off. It isn't very noticeable but you can feel the difference.

It's basically a substance you can use to dip a material into that covers it in a sort of easily removable coating. Take a look at it on YouTube, it's pretty neat.
Do at least 3 coats I've plasti-dipped a few things.
WTF?
Anyone used this bumper?
The back cover is easily replaceable so I don't mind showing off the titanium texture on Note 2. A bumper fits this need. So anyone used this? It shows 20 sold, so hopefully at least someone is browsing xda.
Share your opinions :]
BTW, there's different codes of N7100 and the prices are different, e.g., BK, PK, TP, etc. What does that mean?
EDIT: UH.. nvm, seem to be color codes. BUT, same model, different prices ($20+ vs $10)????
EDIT: UH... nvm again, one is free shipping, one is $10 shipping.
EDIT: AND one is bid while the other is BIN. :double-facepalm:
WARNING: Based on further reading, this design is not acceptable. It scratches screen when installing/uninstalling, and possibly affects reception!!

I've also come across these
You can see that my main idea is to cover the sides, because I believe that it is still chrome like on the Note2 (mine hasn't arrived yet), and shows scratch more easily.
===========================================================================================================================================
Or do you guys think Galaxy Note™ II Protective Cover + from Samsung just looks better?
Only thing I'd be worried about is it interfering with the reception
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
Ye, that's also my major concern. So I wanted to see if anyone tried it on xda. It comes from Hong Kong, so I really don't wanna waste time just to find it interferes with the reception :/
From this thread, looks like (hopefully) it won't interfere.

It wouldn't suppress the signal since The Note isn't like the iPhone 4/4S where the antenna is on the sides. Our Antenna is on the bottom portion of our phone so this case does not interfere with signal.

a buddy of mine has one on his s3 and has no problems. I am going to pass this link to him because when he asked if they were available for the note 2 they said no.. but that was a few weeks ago.
Just fyi guys, i updated in my OP that these bumpers will possibly scratch the screen when sliding in/out as well as interfering with signal strengths as i read in the other thread.
Try to avoid it or try to bear the risk.
There are plastic/soft bumper emerging on eBay. Search for them.

I've had a black aluminium bumper on the titanium gray note 2 for a week, it looks badass especially with the notification led in red ahah. But it does add some bulk and removes the softness of the original design when you hold it ot shove it in your pocket, Guess that bugged me just because I used the note protection free for 2 weeks :/
No signal problem whatsoever.
Little video there, mine is the second one to prove another guy the case didn't intefere: http://www.galaxynote.fr/bumper-aluminium-t8200.html#p90815
I've ordered a second one from a different brand (with replacement buttons like in the original poster picture here instead of grip notches on the sides) in titanium gray color too I'll post a full good quality video of the case if I have some time.
Alternative Bumper
I like this one because looks like thinner on front, shows side buttons and it's nice to hold to don't falls.
Where in Chinese sites can I found?

wooww..
I had the same one as in OP (aluminum frame) from eBay awhile ago, and it didn't fit the phone
Looks like a Triobump Clone.
The aluminum won't scratch the screen.
Hi guys.
I should be getting my new HTC One (Silver) in the next day or so and was wondering if I could get away without a case. Has anyone seen any scratch tests or had any experience with the rear of the phone?
I am very careful with my phones but have always used a case in the past. With this being such a great design it would be a shame to cover it up.
Thanks
Russ
Definitely get a case! Aluminium can dent very easily if you drop it. A plastic case will prevent this.

Thanks for your reply.
I understand that dropping it will dent it but I have never dropped my phone (I know there is a first time for everything). I'm more worried about scratches. I will have a screen protector so its purely just the aluminium casing.
Why hide a nice design? I've never understood why ppl buy something nice and then hide it in an ugly plastic case, isn't the htc one a statement against plastic to begin with?
About screenprotectors no idea if they have become any good over the years, I once used one on my htc prophet didn't like it after a day and removed it. Used my nexus s for 2 years without a protector or case and screen still looks perfect and that isn't even gorilla glass.

Personally, I have never used a case on any of my phones, nor will I ever. I don't understand, why cover up the design, and specially a beautiful phone as the HTC One? I've never had any problems with scratches or dents on my phones.
To answer the OP. Get some bubble wrap, that should be sufficient protection
get a nice pouch, 50% of time protected
although i have to say i prefer the transparent One X flip/kickstand cover over the official double dip flip for the One

Its a tough one. Keeping a phone like this nude of course is preferable, but people like to keep their phones looking like new. Even in a pocket with nothing else in it, phones can get damaged because they are not made to be everlasting. I have never dropped a phone. The only phone I kept nude was the iPhone 4 with its glass front/back. It never marked up. But I would bet that aluminium back does scratch and so if you put it even on a table and accidentally it slides across the table it could scratch it.I understand both viewpoints here.
With the official flip case, you can fold it in a way to expose part of the metal back if you want to admire it sometimes. Also the phone is easily removed from the case in seconds.
Pouch means you can't put it in your pockets easily. But still, it'll be the choice i'll take if I can't find a nice cover.

no need to be cynical, when using a nice pouch you still get to use the device naked as well and enjoy
its just a protection during transportatio, also your protect your resale value
ofcourse plastic covers are a ridiculous idea especially over a metal phone, i had a rock excellent soft slim cover for my One X, never used it
and i meant a slim fitting pouch, not the ugly big types
I use a pouch for my one x when in use its no case or screen protector, when not the pouch keeps it scratch free

I got my butterfly S red from Taiwan on Friday purchased it from ebay. Gorgeous phone. The red finish on this is like a glass. If you think the One is nice this surpasses it. I have both the one developer edition , my first one developer edition was sent back due to dead pixels and rough edges and the second one though better still had a lump of rubber trim sticking out the bottom right which I had to gently rub off. But the Butterfly S is absolutely perfect in build quality. It does not support LTE but I have no gripe with that sense I'm getting nearly 20 megabits of HSDPA of ATT , more than enough for me. I have been looking all over the net for a nice case for this sweet phone and nothing out there. Does anybody know of any ?

I currently have a clear case from Metal-Slim and another faux-leather and cloth cover case with rubber.
Mercury has a glittery semi-hard case similar to the glossy finish of the phone itself. It's quite durable, slightly rubbery but otherwise it is more like a hard case. The power button might seem out of reach because it isn't covered by the case and is in between a hole, but once you get used to it, it is easy to press. There is a red one that is very similar to the red Butterfly S in colour. If you're in Taiwan, some of the street-side vendors in Guang Hua Digital Plaza have it (be careful to compare prices). I can't find it online though :S
Has anyone seen aluminum cases? There are some for the One and original Butterfly, but I think the S is too new for such cases to be released...
Has anyone seen any clear soft cases? Currently I use the hard clear Metal-Slim case for daily usage so I can show my monthly bus pass easily.
I just purchased from US now using phone in India not able to get any case as well + no development for butterfly S can be seen as well - hope it picks up - really superb phone was on HTC one earlier n now butterfly

I'm using the Imak clear case.
I have a Remax clear TPU case (MYR30 in Malaysia, about USD10 if I'm not mistaken). Nice fit, with holes aligned to the IR blaster, volume controls, camera and flash as well as all the mics and USB socket. The sim card/micro SD flap is covered which I really like since I dont really open them often.I could still use it with gadgetshieldz installed.
I ordered the Poetic Palette and I'll give my impressions once it and my phone arrives.

and now waiting anxiously for my nilkin case.:fingers-crossed: lol
Well, I love how my Note 4 looks. But I (and everyone) hate how it looked two days after I bought it. SCRATCHES, SCRATCHES EVERYWHERE. I didn't thought it that much. I picked up my car polisher and started rubbing all the frames of it, not even the chamfered edges. After that the phone looked absolutely amazing, with shinny chromed edges and a glossy, premium feeling white stripe instead of the matte one. 3 months after I've got it; the edges began to get black and oxydize (very litle holes on it). The polisher only removed the black tint of it still have that rustic feel on it. So I took a product that it's called "CiF" here in Argentina. It's a highly abrassive polisher that works for almost everything in your house (Kitchen, electrodomestics, car parts, etc) and started with it:

After that, the chromed edges now looked gray, like unpainted, but these little holes were dissapeared!
Then I took my car polisher, to give the chrome look back again. This time I used another cream which seems to be less abrassive and applies (I don't know if it's true or not) a protective coat on it:
Sonax it's a pretty famous german company that's one of the best polisher brands in the world, yes it's expensive, but does his job very well.
After almost 2 hours rubbing my phone, it started to shine..
(note: the back part of the phone were almost 100% black. Notice how it looks now)
So, my phone now looks like new yet again. I have some warnings for you:
-Don't rub your phone so much with an abrassive product: It could damage it
-Cover your screen with tape BEFORE doing this process: Abrassive products damages the oleophobic coating that the gorilla glass have.
-Put your battery out of the phone so no energy is on it: Any abrassive product is liquid and higly conductive. If mistakenly enters a bit of it on the USB jack, it could make a circuit break and make your phone unusable
-Be sure to clean all the ports and microphones before turning your phone on again
-DON'T USE FAKE COVERS. If the original Spigen scratches your device, don't think about a fake one. I have one, it's a S**************T and destroyed my device, still some huge scratches are there and no polisher can remove them. Here's a pic, notice the bad quality of the plastic and "NEO HIB RYD" typo:
Well that's my little story, I hope this will help to anyone who wants to make his Note 4 shinny again! Good luck!

It's an Incase Hard Cover for Note 4. A friend of mine have it on his iPhone 6 and told me to buy it. Already 5 days using it and no scratches at all!
