the droid 4 is not avaiable outside of the USA, you have to buy it e.g. via ebay.
but pay attention, the phone may not work directly in your country / with your provider, so you'd have to GSM-patch it, but there are some good explanations here.
These phones suck anyway...save your money. Major software issues, locked boot loader.

JayH, then why do you post in this forum? If you don't like it, don't buy it.
The phone is definitely great if you can handle it, not the best and the newest, but it has the most awesome physical keyboard I ever used, and the support for the roms getting built is also very good. Thanks to safestrap, the locked bootloader isn't a downer. (at this point: THANK YOU HASHCODE).
There are good stable ROMs for this phone. Eclipse ICS + olegfusion's GSM patch or Olegfusion's version of the stock 217 ROM are the ones to go for if you want it to just work. The ports of Cyanogenmod etc. aren't quite there yet, though they are getting close.
There's also one in the dev section now that appears to be stock but with additional languages including Italian.
But yes you'll be needing to buy one from the USA. I got mine from Devices Now and would happily recommend them, especially since they will ship you the phone already upgraded to ICS which takes out most of the work of making it work on GSM.
I posted because I own one of these phones sadly... Hash has done a great job but you have to use up valuable memory to load custom roms due to the locked boot loader. I came from an HTC Evo 3D(sprint) to this phone and the HTC was far superior.

well, some people like it, some people dont.
I came from a Galaxy Note, but I was willing to take the burden of going to a lower screen resolution because of the very nice hardware keyboard.
I had the HTC Desire Z ( / G2) before my note and I'm very sad the leading manufacturers haven't found a way to make a good phone (maybe not as thin as others, but less bulky) with a full keyboard.

I am thinking of getting this phone. Need some advice.
Does it look better from the desire s seen in pictures?
Does this phone have a locked bootloader?
If so, is this a dead end to devloping like miui?
what other problems does this phone have?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
it is better than the desire s and from what I see the inc s and desire s both have locked bootloaders unless anyone else can shed further light.
well imho i would choose the IS for sure over the DS
screen is better, sound seems better, and lifetime also (for what ive heared)
the problems you mentioned im sorry i dont have em.. neither do i have the problems others have mentioned..
for s-off you could choose for a way like the xtc clip, or the cheaper variant thats comin soon, or wait till bin4ry found the right xploit for it....
root is no problem when the s-off is done
Will incredible s get cyanogen mod and miui even with the locked bootloader?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
well ur a rom/team leader go make it
and erhm idk.... maybe....
just wait we still busy with all kinda stuff..
its great
I have an incredible S and hpnestly its a amazing device...i originally was gonna wait for the red version but its only a danish version being released...it is really a underrated device. Im pretty sure it will be rooted someday soon and i cant wait lol...I like this device better than the NEXUS S that i Had...but i cant wait for a cyanogen rom..
Read extensively on Incredible S and the comparison with DHD crops up naturally.
Nearly every review has stated the Screen and the Camera being the best on an HTC. (i know its SLCD but still very effective and pretty much the thing to use for internet browsing)
IS also seems to be having smaller footprint and a better battery life.
All these points seals the deal in favor of Incredible S.
Apart from Specs, the phone owner in my area been satisfied with the device.
Ragrarding the ROM support and the works.. only time will tell (hunch says that if htc's 'Locking' be of any hint.. then expect goodies in the future.)
I haven't seen much on roms lately. All the one's out here aren't stable either. We only have a couple fully working roms and none of them are being update. If I get a new phone any suggestions on what it should be to take advantage of the most fully functional roms?
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA
I found Liberty ROM to be quite stable, and while I don't want to jinx it, I've been running Maverick 4.0 for a day or so and it seems great!
If the bootloader ever gets unlocked, it will open up more kernel dev options (for the genius' out there!) which could open up more/better ROM possibilities for us (fingers crossed).
I don't think I'll be upgrading to another phone until a new physical keyboard model comes out. And hopefully it's quad-core with at least a gig of RAM. (512mb on my XT860 has been killing me) ;D
Unfortunately I dont think the kernel will ever be unlocked on our phones... that's Motorola for you.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
But now it's Google...we may get lucky
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA
Ever since they switched to the nightlies and stopped posting new beta's on here It slowed down, IMO.
I'm happy with Mavrom 4.0 I guess, but would've loved to see hashcode etc. focussing on getting video on ICS, rather than adding features etc. Other ROM makers could've tried that. Who cares about advanced settings when you can't even record a video?
Google is going to probably sell Motorola hardware section to Huawei and keep the core just as legal requirements. Also, they said they are not going to interfere with Motorola decisions on their products. Google only bought Motorola for their parents, nothing more, nothing less.
Rocking with my M3 and XDA app
Exactly ... but I don't want this to be a Motorola bash... even tho its easy to do... lol... so for now I would like to see a list of roms that are fully functional. I'm on liberty and I keep going back to that just because everything works... what other roms are in this category. And I agree that a extra features aren't important till a fully or close to fully completely working roms is in place. What's the point of all the bells and whistles if you can't even use the basic functions of a phone.. don't get me wrong now. I love trying new roms but it becomes a downer when you get one that has cool extras but you end up going back to a working rom for taking video or watching Netflix .... even if your on safestrap to go back to that functional rom. And the other question is if I change phones what would be a good phone to go to just for rom purposes ...
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
The problem iswith the hardware codes and drivers. Every phone probably has this problem with ics. They add more features cause this is almost impossible. The attic has a really good developer support. I would definitely go back yo it if I could but I had nothing but problems with mine. Anyone know how to make a rom? I wanna get into it.

I assume you mean Atrix instead of attic?
The real issue to all of the problems is the bootloader. When you can customize the kernel to fit your rom you pretty much take care of any problems. Not to say there aren't roms with custom kernels that don't have issues .... there are but thats due to other things. Programming or incompatibly issues. All of our roms are franken roms held together by bungee cords and duct tape. The devs do a great job with what they have at hand so when time comes for them to build a rom on a phone with a unlocked bootloader, I don't blame them.. much more freedom and the ability to create awesome roms the way they want. All the stable roms we have are just built around the original with some cleaning up and a splash of color... I wonder what it feels like to know when you pick a rom no matter what it is and you know its going to work and the only reason you don't stick with it is because you don't like the way it looks or it doesn't have a extra you want... how sweet.

Hello everyone,
I'm new here,
Starting this thread so that beginners and new users (like me) can know about what people have done with their monsters and what they are capable of!
Tell me about your favorite top 10 apps and must haves!
Reason for choosing Droid 3?
I'd also like to know if some serious droidians can provide links on how to achieve what they have!
Would also like if they can tell users like me what should be done with their Droid 3 if they just took it out of the box!
I have a Motorola Droid 3 Verizon [XT862 (its obvious but still)],
5.6.890.xt862.verizon.en.us (I think its stock rom, but I could be wrong)
Using it in India.
And thats all I know about it.
Its not even rooted.
My reason for choosing Droid 3:
I wanted something solid, which felt like a monster in my hand, not like the new phones being thin and light as a paper, I needed something heavy! The large screen, 8 mp cam, 16+16 Gb memory are just add-ons to the list,
the main reason being the 5 row physical keyboard. I did not find any other phone with k/b with such screen and cam. And Motorola is well known for being modded and customized!
Share anything and everything you can, it is always helpful to someone!
Tell us about different processes of flashing, about roms, latest updates and so on.
Very excited to hear from y'all!
Hope. to get some really interesting and helpful posts!
Don't forget to have fun while doing this and help as many people as you can
Thanks a lot.
Really?
Really guys,
no one?
I was hoping to get some really good feedback!
Kinda old phone! I got it because i wanted the original but went with the Droid Incredible for processor. So I saw the droid 3 and it looked just as good.
Phone is end of life. These discussions have been had many times before. People are waiting to upgrade to a better phone.
Sent from my DROID3 using xda app-developers app
Droid Incredible?
Isn't it a cdma phone? With 1Ghz processor?
-------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, I see.
But buddy, this discussion is not only about the features of the phone but more about what can one do or should do if they just got it.
This phone is not available at the place I'm using it. Specs are incredible, except for the software update.
I do not see a single phone with a keyboard like this with such a screen over here.
Even though it is an old phone, I got it regardless of its lousy software update.
And therefore I wanted to know, what people are doing with their droid3 regarding software?
I wanted to know which rom are they using and what apps are must haves!
Thats all.
Thank you all for reading.
Rom toolbox, safestrap3, thats all i recommend for must have apps.
Run stock for a while, and then put on safestrap and see what roms you like.
You can also use the ubuntu install app in the market if you want a linux distribution, worked ok on my droid3.
If you like at&t or tmobile, use the radio hack to skip verizon.

you shouldn't loose unlock but if the rom wasn't dev'd for your specific device..ie..xt862,xt860 ect you might have to flash the proper radio and build prop
yesterday someone made me an offer on my Inspire, so I decided to get summen new.
Was like why not seeing that the person actually seemed like they wanted to Inspire more than I did.
So decided to choose summen in the HTC line that was comparable in price.
So what are you guys feedback about the phone, did I make a good choice
NB I did say for way i can afford now.

I love my Vivid. It was pretty good out of the box but after Rooting and installing a ROM of your choice it makes it so much better. Improved battery life, faster speeds, and more options as far as tweaks. Personally, I'm using WCX's rom but there are plenty of others out there floating around that are great. All have positives and negatives just need to find the one that fits you. If you can snag a One X that would be better but the Vivid is just as good. We just don't have a fully functioning Jellybean Rom yet but I don't think we are missing much.
thanks man, what I will do is test it first then root it,. I'll give the WCX rom a try seeing that you were the first one to response and offer some advice.
I was looking at a One X but was $100 or so more than what I paid for the Vivid.
I've been reading some threads where persons were wondering if Vivid would get an official JB update, but from what I gather the roms for this phone would do great,
thanks
G
Just be careful and read a lot before you dive into installing roms. This phone is a little more complicated then some of the other more open phones like the SGS III or Nexus. If you need any help just ask on the board. Plenty of knowledgeable people here to help you from bricking your phone. I'm not trying to scare you but if you don't follow directions it could lead to issues. Again its not hard to root and install a rom but things have to be done in a certain order.
thanks man appreciate it
G
It's a good phone and I you loved your inspire and sense, you'll love the vivid. It's a great stock phone, kinda weak on the development side, but a few guys around here are looking to fix that pretty close to a fully working cm10. Until then, definitely unlock your bootloader and root and put wcx's rom on, it is the best out of box experience hands down. In a nutshell our stock ics rom is a bit quirky, buggy, and laggy at times and battery life flat out sucks. Wcx's rom focuses on fixing all that. It's not all that fancy but he gives you the firmware this phone should of had from the factory!

Got the vivid yesterday and so far so good. Running ICS very fast phone I must say, smooth operation.
I want to root it just wonderit if I should wait a while before doing so?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
Well I will warn you 2 things about rooting this phone. First is the locked bootloader. You can unlock it but it's going to wipe everything. Your internal sd will be fine but you're phone will appear to be straight out of the box, you'll have to install your apps again, you'll loose all game save data, and you'll have to reconfigure your home screen.
Secondly your warranty is effectively void. If you relock your bootloader it'll say "relocked" in your bootloader menu. Only way to make it say locked again is to s-off and the process requires removing a screw with a void sticker.
So do so at your own risk. Just thought I'd give you a head up
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the heads up.
Your second point I don't mind much as I'm not in the US anyway therefore not using at&t or some provider like that.
I don't mind the reconfiguration as well. Is there anything major you can think about that might affect the phone in any negative way?
And how would you suggest I root it?
Thanks
G
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
Nah nothing major, it's hard to brick this thing. Only thing I know for sure that'll brick it is flashing radios. But as far as rooting its pretty straight forward. Also if it doesn't have ics on it, update it first. It been a while since I rooted but their is a whole tutorial on it.

no. nothing. and after you've root, etc., then flash the PACman ROM in the DEV section. jelly bean rom, amazingly smooth, and almost all bugs except bluetooth are worked out

Yea..once you're unlocked, you'll need to flash custom recovery. Once you have that, you can just flash an already rooted ROM.

the P990 is like heaven if you want to try custom roms
Even if you manage to brick it, just install a Stock-Rom with NVflash, and it is back alive in 95% of all brick-situations. The only way to destroy it is the hardware-side, like smacking it with a sledgehammer
Very large user base all over the world, and a wide bandwith of CustomRoms that run stable and nearly bugfree.
The official ICS-Stock-Rom is also running pretty good with it But if you ever used a custom rom, or tried one once, you never want to go back to stock on any device
When I ask about ICS is because I've seen some posts where users say that ICS update for this device comes with some bugs and that was worst than previous version.
But when I see all yours answers I believe that this is good phone and good choice.

If you get a locked phone, regardless of brand or carrier, it is easy to unlock - just identify the original carrier it was locked to, get the IMEI, submit that info plus $8 to cellunlocker.net, then boot the phone with any other SIM inside, and enter the code
Good job on getting the One X, great buy and way better than the P990... I like my P990 but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in 2013, even those on a budget, since the better models from late 2011/early 2012 would be at a decent price by then.

I've bought it very cheap for that reason and for some small scratches. The only ones that i have some scare are in the front of the camera... the worst case scenario is i have to change the phone case, but i don't think this scratches affect pictures as they are in side and not in the middle.

Hi,
I got this phone after i sold my 3GS.I really enjoyed the extra core and the hdmi out(i even sold my htpc as i didnt need it anymore!)
but missed the smoothness and attention to detail of the ios.
Having said that it took me 5 days of reading to jailbreak the iphone and around 10 minutes to root the 2x.
I kept it stock because life is short and i didnt want to loose warranty.
I agree with the friend who said its a galaxy s2 class phone.I was considering the s2 ass well but the lg had a better bang for a buck at the time.
IMHO there is nothing wrong with it except for the never ending progress of technology, its just not top dog anymore.
