You can mount system through recovery. It should be easy to find.
But to change bootanimation just delete the original .zip and place the new one there, set permissions and done.

Which ROM are you using? The location of the bootanimation will vary depending on whether its like stock, or sense, or added bootanimation by dsixda ROM kitchen (you get the idea here).

A file explorer app like solid explorer or es file explorer lets you mount /syste m

im using the es explorer but i can't see any system location.

I would actually recomment root explorer for this simply cuz it doesnt have so much eye candy and everything is easier to see.
But nevermind that,in order to go to the system files (not the SD card files) you have to go to settings and tick all the boxes under root settings (or something with a similar heading). Then take the bootanimation you want (copy it).
The bootanimation for the ROM is different depending on the ROM. On AOSP and AOKP ROMs its in the /system/media folder. Simply rename the original bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip.bak just in case you want to change back. Paste your bootanimation and rename to bootanimation.zip. Then set the permission to rw-r-r.
I dont know where the bootanimation in Sense ROMs are though but the process is still the same.

Bootanimation locate in system/customize/resource

Sometime I forget there is a main page on xda. That is a sweet bootup animation, but when I put the .zip onto my card and try to flash it I get a fail message. Can anybody make this flashable for the epic?

You need to take the bootanimation.zip and replace the one in data/system using a file browser that allows r/w permissions.

i broke down and bought root explorer and did what they said. there is a toggle in root explorer that does R/O and R/W and if you long press a file (like .zip or .apk) permissions will be in the sub menu select it (permissions isn't in the free version) there is a 3x3 grid of check boxes and most of them are selected, select them all. then long press the item and select move.
the boot zip goes to system/media paste it asks if you're sure say yes, if it says it's read only toggle that little button on the right hand corner to r/w and try paste again.
to change the MMS to black and bubbless (iphone esh) same thing only paste it in the system/apps and paste
reboot, look at your new splash screen and minimal MMS
i tried the free stuff but having to toggle between two apps was a pain and I've been using root explorer for installing transparent .apk and moving files around so it's paid for it's self. Even though i tried to buy it / refund it after i was done with it.

Where did you obtain the files to work on the boot up screen? How well is yours still working? (This next one is a bum questuon) any chance of providing your end product? I'm curious to what this boot screen looks like and couldn't find anything on the article about it.

Yeah, im also wondering bout that cuz ive been trying to figure out how to implement sound on my boot but had no success! ill try that but is their any method to implent sound on there, or do i just rename the mp3 file i want in there with poweron.wave? or how do i do that? and for flashing boot animation with sound? how can i go bout that?
Im currently on the CWM 3 with SyndicateRom Twilight 1.1.0 on my Epic 4G
Best Choice ive ever made, Epic has never been so smoothly and super fast
Do you have to be running a modded kernel or something to get this working? I looked in /data/system and /system/media and don't have a bootanimation.zip to overwrite. I am stock rom and kernel with root.

[Q] Bootanimation Problems

I have rooted my LG Optimus 2x and have tested it by installing apps only for rooted phones. My phone has a bootanimation from the Swiss carrier Swisscom which is getting on my nerves as it also plays some miserable music. I have downloaded a different bootanimation but whe I try to rename the old bootanimation it says "insuffisient permission"....
anyone can help out with this please? There is also a close animation when turning the phone off.
Much appreciated.
Although you have root permissions you still need to mount the directory that the bootanimation is in with read/write permissions. If you have Root explorer this can easily be done.

I'm not entirely sure but i think you dont need to have to change the orginal bootanimation.zip
If you put the new one in data/local/ that should work as well. You should try that before you change stuff around.
Search on market for bootanimation. I changed mine aswell.

Do you need any further help? Or did you fix it
Make sure your bootanimation.zip only runs with 15fps and then put it to your sdcard.
Open up adb shell, and make sure you have root.
now use the following command to copy the new bootanimation to your phone:
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zipĀ“
If your bootanimation runs with more than 15fps, you will have to make a flashable zip, and flash it to /system/media/bootanimation.zip
more info about bootanimations here:

Hallo and sorry for the late reply. I was not able to change the bootanimation. I read that I need to change the name of the existing bootanimation.zip, name the new bootanimation.zip and just put it in the system/media using root explorer. is this correct? I do not think i have the knowledge to check the amount of fps and how to make a flashable zip in case its more than 15fps... sorry but it sounds a bit of rocket sience here..
I have found the bootaniation changer lite on Market.. is this something good? anyone tried it?
Your bootanimation does not need to be 15 fps. I have a 30 fps one in data/local and it works just fine.

Your bootanim is now called: sanim.zip
You can also use bootanimation.zip (from 2.2) and rename it sanim.zip and it will work on GB.

Try /system/media
It's either /data/local, /system/media, or /system/customize/resource. Guides need to include this because every ROM is designed differently. Anyway, nice boot animation OP.

Hi, make sure your Root/ES Explorer has permissions. I'm using ES explorer and check the settings/preferences making sure "Up to Root" and "Root Explorer" options are checked. You may wanna download ES Explorer to do this. Also, don't forget to Fix the Permissions using your Recovery or ROM manager just to make sure.
I am running stock 2.3.6 on the Samsung Galaxy SII T-989 for t-mobile. I have it rooted with root explorer. I See a couple files Samsungboot and Samsungbootloop in/ system/media and put 123 after the file extension. I pulled a bootanimation.zip from 4shared and pasted it in the dir.
Reboot and still get the Tmobile boot. I don't need a custom ROM also do I? Also, can anyone point me to compatible animations IF that's the problem?
Any ideas?

How did you do that ?I mean i understand the part0,part1 folders, desc.txt and saving every frame, first one as 10001.png, the second one as 10002.png, and so on.
I just want to know how do you create the custom animation ?Generally, you can just download a video and extract the frames and the put them in a sequence. But,what if you want to create an animation using your own pic or something like that ?I don't understand how to draw your own frames. How would you do that ?

[BOOTANIMATION] P51xx Google Gears High Resolution

Attached is a high resolution Google Gears Boot Animation for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 based on d-iivil's work for the Galaxy Nexus found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399016 (Thanks for your work d-iivil, much appreciated).
I am assuming it will work on all P51xx models, I tested it on my P5100 running CM10. I used ES File Explorer to perform the steps below, but you can also use Root Explorer.
Steps:
Download attached file Google_Gears_P5100_bootanimation.zip below
Rename the file to bootanimation.zip
Mount the system partition as RW
Copy the file to /data/local
Change the file permissions to rw-r--r--
That's it, reboot the device to test. If it does not work just delete the bootanimation.zip file you copied into /data/local

I think if you use stock rom it will not work it needs a custom rom as cm9 or cm10 you use free app like es file manager or root browser lite and copy animation to system/media to overwrite the original animation then change permissions by long pressing file and choosing change permissions to rw r r from above downwards then restart and see

I followed them to the letter - I renamed the zip file to bootanimation.zip, copied it over to data/local and fixed the permissions with Root Explorer but I just ended up with a blank screen when I booted. I also tried copying it to system/media and fixing permissions but with the same result.
