Doubt about updating JB Odin/OTA - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys!
Coming as I come from the Nexus family, I try to be as close to the stock experience as I can. So i'd rather wait for the OTA than flash it trough Odin (not that I'm afraid, done it many times to other phones).
But I'm reading many things about the wonders of flashing from a clean ICS, which I'd rather don't do since when the OTA arrives to Spain, I'd like to say OK and update.
So what I would want to know is if it's cleaner to install JB from a clean ICS than install it from OTA and then Factory Reset.
Also, ¿should I do the factory reset in JB from the stock kernel or might still be "bricking dangerous"?
Thanks!!!

Instead of using ota use kies to update to jb and do take a backup of all your data. No it's still it's not clear if jb's stock kernel is safe for doing factory reset.. Don't take risk avoid factory reset on ics and jb stock kernel

Ok, sorry but I've never done a kies backup before: Does it save all your app data? So that I could restore ICS app data in JB?

No it will not backup your app data. To backup the apps data you need to root your phone and install the titanium backup app from the market. From that app you can backup your all ics apps data to sd card

Oh, I was hoping to avoid this... it seems android sometimes gives you no choice but to root your phone.
Still, I would want to know if the clean installation is the same wether I do the cleaning before or after the update...

It's always better to clean before installing a new rom.

Carbon Backup on the play store does do app data backup without root.

Question : restoring data after flashing roms

First of all,hi all, newbies here.. Bought my O2X for about a month n flashed a few custom roms..question is,i read somewhere that 'restoring data' after flashing roms can cause battery drain issue,is that mean restoring thru recovery or titanium backup? I always use titanium backup n restore app only, afraid of the batt drain issue, but it gets annoying coz i need to set up everything again.(account login, settings).

Only restore "user apps", not system data when coming from another rom.
Sometimes restoring user apps WITH data can cause problems, like batterydrain. For example when going from froyo to gingerbread.

not really, when staying on froyo rom (MCR Kitchen for example), just flash over new rom, you will keep your data ...
when flashing new baseband -> also just restore backup in CWM
when changing to CM, i would recommend using titanium or mybackup pro to restore your apps (exclude system apps in backup, cause they are different !)
but when you´re staying on CM , just flash new rom, you will keep your data !

yes !!
i came from fr14 to fr18b2 without wiping anything !
i would only wipe once when you plan to move to cm, but when you stay on MCR based roms, just reflash rom and enjoy !

Fear, BlazingDragon, they are all based on MCR, so it shouldn´t be a problem ...
just try out, in worst case, when facing a bootloop or some other problems, you can wipe anyway afterwards ...
so it´s good to have a "titanium" or "mybackuppro" backup for worst case
Ok thanks dude!

The same method worked me 3 times, whenever I tried..next time I tried just wiping cache & dalvik, which also worked..but both of these may not work all the time I guess..
Yeah, thats why I'll try Alliance rom based on 4.0.4. Back in galaxy S days I was a fan od darkyrom, alliance is darky old crew. So I'll just give them a try.^^
And with your method of wiping - does it wipe any data? Like settings, sms memory or apps?

Wiping dalvik and cache will not erase the data

[Q] Will kies backup my game progress when Jelly bean arrived?

Hi,
I am concerned about my offline game progress back up when Samsung rolls out 4.1.2 for our international Note N7000.
Will I be able to back up it from choosing the back up options from kies?
Is it a wipe ROM or non wipe type?
Emmc bug free?

i dont think.. use TB or a nandroid backup.. to be safe
Problem is I haven't root it yet and not rooting it after jb final update arrived. So will kies back up and do all the job for me?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
A big no.. Root it, use tb to backup data then unroot it
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
So do i need to install phizl kernel just to root?
Or I just root it straight?
FYI I haven't root before :X
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
No you don't to install the philz recovery just to get rooted... You only need to follow this guide to root and you can unroot it when you are done http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360

[Q] [GB to JB and back]

Guys!!
i always appreciate the roms our developers make for us to enjoy our phone all the way more...but i know that JB and sumtimes even GB,not like JB but still lags/hangs/gets stuck..i mean i like the interface and all, of custom roms, but even the stock roms lag, and also in the end its about making calls and using watsapp, well atleast for me...!!!
So,
i wanted to know, is there any direct way install JB on my phone (like the nandroid restore) and as per my comfort, switch back to GB without the need do restoring everything (like we always have to do a factory reset and install all the apps again and restore every data again),
like can i use the nandroid restore to restore back to gb???
another thing is, suppose if i have a nandroid backup of my stock rom, and then i installed slim jb or galaxperia on my phone and want to shift back to stock...can i do the nand restore from cwm/twrp without thinking for a second (i.e. after doing the factory reset)???
From JB custom roms to JB stock, yes. If you have made nandroid backup, you can just restore. From JB to GB I don't think you can. You need to follow the downgrade procedures.
Thnx..and is there a way to get all my apps and data like they were before i installed a new rom
For eg: i have slim jb and want to shift to galaxperia...how can i without loosing the data and apps ( or without fact.reset)...i know i can use titanium but is there any other way of not even deleting them in the 1st place
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
Well the reason for factory reset is to avoid any complications when switching roms..you can try flashing roms without factory reset but maybe there will be some problems. Therefore it is recommended to do so. As for backup, other that titanium you can just backup data using twrp but I prefer titanium
Guys thanks for the help..appreciate it!!
One more favor please...im currently on DDLK2 indian GB and im thinking of shifting to OmegaRomX by shaan....now i have made a backup of my stock rom using Twrp (system 552mb & data 826mb)..now as the procedure says i will factory reset before rebooting to Omega rom...
I want to ask, is it possible if i restore JUST my Data from backup, on Omegarom...i mean will i get all my apps and their data as it was...and i wont need to download it all again...
Will it work?will it cause any trouble??

Guys, gr8 news by sammy....maybe its old but i found it now...they have released jb (I9070ODDULP8) in india...does that mean its stable???
i am currently on GB...n seriously bored with this phone...are there any lags in using apps and mailnly opening the calling app...in short is it available for daily use!!!
or should i go for the latest russian version released, as russia was the first where jb was released and so i was thinking maybe it would be more stable!!!
you should go for the Indian firmware..it's very good.. battery life is awesome and practically no lags..

How to uninstall any applied mods and themes???...plz help

Hii...
I have applied many mods and themes that I want to delete now plz help...I am using jellybean 4.1.2 rooted with philz cwm...N7000.DDLSC

Either restore nandroid backup or flash the restore flashable zip from the developer.
Sent from my GT-N7000
There is no way to uninstall or delete Mods/Themes. Most of them change "system" apks without making a backup of them.
So - as suggested before - restore a backup if you made one from the unchanged Rom
or
reinstall the Rom.
So if I wipe data or reset to factory settings will there be any problem

What? Your original question was answered: no way.
I mean if I wipe or restore factory settings will they b deleted...and if I do it will it do any harm
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
No. If you factory reset, then your device will load the modded apk's and themes again. Because there are no sources for stock apk's and theme's in the system file.
Your only chance ist backup, or reinstall the rom.
If you don't make nandroid, backup your apk's and that what you want with titanium. Then reinstall the rom.
If i am wrong, please correct me.
